Sweet Action serves delicious homemade ice cream in many, often quite unique, flavors. The salted butterscotch was superb and the brown sugar banana tasted as though it was actually made with real bananas - a rare treat in an era of chemical flavouring. The place is small but comfortable and the staff is friendly. The line tends to be long, though it moves fast. They allow sampling, which is great for options like garam masala and sour cream and chives and there is a freezer with pints, ice cream sandwiches and some cakes. Unfortunately, the selection of toppings is a little more limited - no banana splits or berry sundaes here (though hot fudge is an option). However, the ice cream is amazing and you will never tire of the flavor options. A dangerous place to live in walking distance of. Side note: as a former resident of Columbus, OH this place reminds me of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams if that means anything to anyone here. read more

Staff is very friendly and oh so helpful and will let you taste anything that you want. I started out tasting a few really nice flavors - caramelized pear and pumpkin pie. The pear was the front runner until the Vegan Chocolate caught my eye. the nice young lady behind the counter explained it was made with coconut milk etc and this definitely caught my attention. While I'm not vegan and not close to vegetarian most of the time I opted to try this intriguing flavor. The velvety texture was the first thing to hit my tongue and it began to sing, and sing loud - I was in love with this small little taste of magic in my mouth. Did I just really say that - magic in mouth - well anyway I'll go on from there..... The smooth, rich, delicious Vegan Chocolate was simply divine. If all Vegan stuff tasted this good I would so give up meat, in a heart beat. But alas it does not so I'll just have to stick to pulling cheeks off pigs (a story for another time) and loving meat. This place was packed! The flavors, the portions - they get it all right! We had everything from a carmel to a double dip with sprinkles to a pistachio and a strawberry lemon sherbert. They definitely load you up and you can also try everything prior in a little scoop. Downside is that there arent a lot of places to sit. I love ice cream. With that being said, sweet action is not a horrible drive from home, but the parking can be a bit of a hassle especially during the summer months. Then after being able to find that 1 parking spot, you walk to sweet action....to wait in line. That's ok though because the ice cream is pretty darn delicious. Depending on what they have to offer, they usually have options for everyone. If you like the fruity refreshing sorbet, check. If you like the decadent, chocolaty ice cream, check. If you like the ice cream with an extremely long and sophisticated name, check. They even have a vegan option most of the time. So far, my favorites have been Thai tea, Green tea and Vietnamese Ice cream. You can't find these anywhere else in Denver (that I know of). This time around I tried the mexican chocolate stout and mocha swiss almond. The mexican chocolate was pretty darn good, but I prefer the normal mexican chocolate. I decided to grab a scoop of the mocha swiss and it's pretty much a better version of mocha almond fudge. Then of course I ordered a pint of the Thai tea to take home. For now I'm going to buck the rating trend and give Sweet Action just 2 stars, even if their ice cream flavors are inventive, their t-shirts rad, and their name pretty cool. Some friends told my wife and I over and over again how incredible Sweet Action was, so this past weekend on our Denver adventure we made sure to stop in. I loved the bright and eclectic artwork, and the large space. The bar at the front overlooking Broadway was great too. I made the mistake of second guessing myself on my ice cream choice. I opted for the Peanut Butter Pretzel (which was just ok) when I really wanted the Stranahan's Whiskey ice cream. Yes, you read me right... WHISKEY ice cream. $2.50 for a single scoop. And by "single" they really mean kid's size. I'm used to the peeps at Little Man who serve up a mean "single", one where you can even ask for two flavors. Not so here at Sweet Action. A friend took me to pop my "Sweet Action cherry" (muhaha I thought it was clever; Sweet Action you're welcome to trademark!) and it was one of the best first times EVER. A very nice lady let us sample whatever we wanted: After Dinner Mint, Goat Cheese Beet Swirl (!), Mocha Almond Fudge, for example... I ended up with a scoop of Blackberry Lavender - yummm, a perfect balance of flowery goodness. He had scoops of Spumoni and Sunshine (citrus and apricot). We visited this ice cream shop on a sunny Saturday afternoon. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the servers. And somehow, there was no line! Jacob and I tried a few different flavors of their ice cream before settling on our choices. The prices were decent, no more than what we'd pay for a couple cones back home in Michigan. I noticed all their ice cream was soft/hard, not hard/hard. Somewhere in between soft serve and hard packed. I like my ice cream harder usually, but it was still very tasty. Luckily it wasn't super-hot outside or it may have melted before I could eat it. There's ample seating inside but it can't keep up with demand. By the time we left, there was a line to the door and people were eye-hounding us for our stools at the bar facing outside. I really enjoyed this place. They had some original flavors like green chili, but none that I thought were outstanding (we sampled a lot of them). We ended up having the Baklava ice cream. It was good, but a little too sweet. Personally, I think Little Man Ice Cream is a lot better. I think this place is just hyped up because it's in a really hipster part of town. I am a big fan of Little Man, so I was somewhat skeptical that Sweet Action would be as good. I was very pleasantly surprised. I sampled several ice-creams, and each was a miracle of flavors. I even enjoyed a tasted of the savory "brown butter sage" ice cream. I kid you not, it tasted like turkey gravy. Off-putting? a little. Delicious? definitely. The only one I thought was not great was the Baklava ice cream. But, seriously, they earn points just for making Baklava ice cream. I also noted, but did not sample, the several vegan options. I finally went with a scoop of the caramelized pear and the salted butterscotch. The pear was delicate, unique and tasty. The salted butterscotch was aggressively in your face with outstanding flavors. This particular ice-cream is one I would love to pair with the salted oreo from Little Man. The hubs and I live on the west side of the Denver area close to another ice cream place that also has sweet in the title. This review is based off comparing our favorite ever ice cream to Sweet Action. For starters the staff here is super nice and the vibe is super cool. That's more a four star. The flavors are unique but the ice cream just doesn't compare to our favorite. That's more a two star. We found both our flavors, chocolate whoopsie pie, salted butterscotch and I tried a sample of the almond butter chip to taste a bit watery. It didn't have a smooth creamy flavor that is more our jam and I threw mine out after three bites. read more

I am more of a Froyo girl so this was a little overwhelming, but I looked at their board and I narrowed it down to two choices of Chocolate Mint Sorbet (which was nice and rich and not like a usual sorbet at all) and Carrot Cake Vegan ice cream (yes for all of you lactose intolerant, you too can enjoy a nice sampling of flavors). The carrot cake had nice chunks of the delicious cake in a coconut milk based frozen delight, while it wasn't as creamy as I thought coconut milk would be it was still very good and not too sweet.
