I really can't get enough of this place. Their sandwiches are amazing. The bread is really what makes it. Their cracked wheat is to die for. On top of that, their baked goods are great as well. Do not go here. It is not worth it, and it is not worth the one star given. The quality is terrible, and the prices are outrageous for the cheap nasties they sell. The sweets lack flavor, and they taste cheap and not "bakery" quality. I would LOVE to have a quality bakery around here, but sadly, this is not one. read more

Wonderful place to meet for coffee. New coffee machine - excellent coffee. Pastries are really good even though the selection is not huge. Muffins, especially the orange/cranberry, are outstanding. The sandwich's and pastries at Sweet Bakery is best I ever had. To drive from Martinez, Calif. at lest 4 time a week. Once you had there, you had to go back for more. In ordered my cake and asked for a two day return. They said it was not enough notice. Then they called and said they could, which was great but I had arranged for my husband go pick it up and could allow for a Third day. Making it more fresh and not to rush them.I went ahead and placed my order with a three day notice.When he brought it home they decorated it wrong. I called and told them about it. The two stars are for the young girl who answered the phone. She told me the cake decorator was not in. They do not have a full time in house cake decorator. In a bakery? So no one could fix it. Someone rewrote my order since I gave them another day and transferred the info wrong, she informed me. I told her it was the first time I had used them so i was hoping they would somehow make it right. Maybe a next cake 5% off Or something. They don't do that. If I did business like that i would be out of business in no time. I took off the dark chocolate and tried to fix it myself. Mistakes are human and I get it but ...Unless I hear back from the owner to make an attempt to make this right somehow , I won't be back. Besides even if I picked it up myself and pointed out the mistake they could not have fixed it without a bakery decorator on site. Really?!! I will be going back to another bakery. We have bought many carrot cakes from them in the past for Birthday parties and events. I ordered a cake for my Mom's Birthday Party and talked to the Dad, who told me to call him a couple of days before to confirm. I called about 5 days before and didn't receive a call until 2 days before the party and was told they couldn't make the cake... they didn't have the ingredients to make the cake until Monday. I thought it was a joke, REALLY. Apparently the father had gone on vacation and didn't tell anyone, I have never seen anything so unprofessional, every time I called it would take 5-7 days to get a reply, the counter people would not take the order when I stopped there 3 weeks again of time. The party turned out great, I bought 2 cakes from MJ's Downtown Café and Bakery and they were excellent, I have found a new bakery. read more

I tried to go to this place a while ago. My kids and I were hungry and I thought this place might be nice. I wanted to try a new place. Unfortunately, I will never go here for anything again. I don't know how the food tastes but the service is awful. I went in and no one acknowledged me. When I went in, they were working on something. It looked like they were trying to fix something. I understand they were busy doing this. And it was probably critical that they get it fixed. But there's no excuse for not acknowledging customers. They saw me waiting. I waited for them to say something. I didn't want to interrupt their work. A simple "Hi we'll be with you in a second" or "I'm sorry we can't serve you right now" would have been good. Had the worst sandwiches I have ever bought. The bread was stale,the chicken salad had no avocado or cashews as for the Italian again stale bread no peppers or bell pepper to moisten the sandwich only one leaf of lettuce and about 20 strands of sprouts the driest sandwich ever. read more

I've been coming here 10 years now for the bread. I order every week and although they have put their prices up for each loaf they sell, they have not increased sandwich prices. That seems unfair to me. Also the new staff cannot successfully take an order. I order to pick up the following day. I have bought pastries, cookies, etc here and they were always good. The other day I was hungry and saw they made sandwiches....whoa! I got a tuna sandwich and it was the biggest thing I ever saw! It was their baked bread cut thickly, tuna, fancy lettuce, cashews, etc and it was FABULOUS! Not the cheapest, but it was great. I know we will be back more than ever now just for that tuna sandwich. I went into the bakery to get a sandwitch and soda for luch and was greeted by the most pleasant young woman. I beleive her name was Andrea. She very quick yet thurough in taking my order. SHe maintained a very pleasant atitude during the exchange and thanked me right away for my business. My order was finioshed in a timely manner and the quality good. The store was clean and pleasant looking. I recomend this to anyone shopping in the Clayton Safeway Shopping center to stop by. They do have some great baked good also.
