Poor service. Had simple questions about special ordering a kid's birthday cake. Spoke to "senior member" of their team (i.e. not young). She was unfriendly and somewhat rude...An attitude of doing us a favor giving unhelpful, lame answers. Life's too short to deal with businesses & owners who don't get it on basic customer service. We just walked across the parking lot to Safeway's baking department and received the normal friendly service must of us expect. Tried to support a small local business but didn't work out... I'll never go in there again. read more

It was my first time trying Sweet Bakery around last week and I had Katherine take my order. I ordered through the phone and with me being partially deaf, she was very understanding which was very kind of her. When I got there, my order was already waiting for me so I didn't have to wait. Sweet bakery has the best cookies in the area! The sugar cookies are stellar and the chocolate chip are a wonderful combination of almost crispy on the outside but perfectly moist in the inside. I haven't had a bad treat here but those are by far my favorites! The turkey sandwich is fantastic. It comes. With their homemade bread, cream cheese and cranberry sauce. Bought a cake today and was so disappointed. The cake was super dry and the ganache was so rubbery and tasted old. The frosted flowers tasted old as well. I highly doubt that the cake was made fresh. Every single person at the party mentioned that the cake tasted old. I will contact the manager tomorrow. Also, they didn't have a cake decorator on-site to write "happy birthday". read more

Desserts look and smell wonderful but what a disappointment! SWEET AFFAIR used to be in this location and they relocated to YGNACIO PLAZA. THEY are unsurpassed in their baked goods, sandwiches, and salads. When SWEET BAKERY opened in the same location, I couldn't understand why the baked goods were so tasteless; then I found out why the desserts were so bland. Then i realized the name change. Don't be fooled. Their sandwiches are good but their baked goods are lovely to look at yet tasteless and not worth eating. I actually threw mine away once! AND they're not cheap. DON'T BE EMBARRASSED by bringing something to someone from this bakery. Do yourself a favor and ride down the hill to YGNACIO PLAZA and get the real thing! read more

Love this place. It has become a tradition to stop here before a concert at the Pavillion. I always get the turkey sandwich on wheat. The best sandwich ever. The bread is so amazing and it is pilled high with everything not just meat. I always grab a goodie and am never disappointed. read more

I used to come here a lot and then I remembered why I stopped. Today I gave it another shot and to my disappointment their pastry quality is declining. I just took a bite of their german chocolate browny that is probably a few DAYS old but not advertised as such. I paid full price thinking it was made today. Usually bakery discount day old food. We used to really love this bakery. But, it sold a few years ago and has been going steadily down hill. It is a problem of VERY poor management. They are frequently out of things for many days in a row (could be coffee cups, lids, etc.). For example, as of today they have not had croissants for over a week. That is a bakery staple and this just takes some planning. Candidly, if another bakery opened up close to us, we (and I think many others) would be flocking there to try out. My daughter loves coming here for her cookie "treats." The sandwiches are really good with fresh bread! Wish there were better "drop" in options for a random occasion though. I've stopped by a few times for a last minute small (4-6 piece) cake or large cupcake for a birthday or something but it seems like that's something you have to order ahead of time. HORRIBLE SERVICE! This used to be a great bakery, but unfortunately it changed ownership a few years ago and has really gone down hill. I stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon with my fiance to get a sandwich. We were the only customers in the store and there was one employee working. My fiance ordered a chicken salad sandwich and was informed that they were out of chicken. The woman working listed the three options out of six or so on the menu that they had not run out of, and my fiance ended up ordering a turkey sandwich. I noticed that there were also very few pastries left in the display case. One other thing I noticed was that the pastries appeared to be copies of the ones sold at Sweet Affair in Walnut Creek, only they looked more dry. I love Sweet Affair bakery, especially their cheesecake brownies, but I had heard that the ones at Sweet Bakery were horrible copies. Since they looked pretty good, and I noticed there was a broken one missing half the frosting, I asked the employee if I could possibly have a sample. She snapped back, very impolitely, that "No! If there were samples they would be out! I can't just give you a sample of whatever you want!" I was quite shocked, considering I had been polite when I asked, and I would have bought one if the sample tasted good. At that point, she rung up the sandwich, and we awkwardly paid and left. When we got home and my fiance took out the sandwich to eat it, he noticed that it did not come with sprouts like it said on the menu. She had also piled all the ingredients in the middle of the bread, making it hard to eat. Definitely worth making the drive to SWEET AFFAIR in WALNUT CREEK if you want a good sandwich or pastry, friendly service, and a nicer place to eat! read more

This little shop is the perfect quick stop for a cook to order breakfast sandwich. The team behind the counter is really nice and they open crazy early. I appreciate that they actually fry a real egg (not just microwave) on the breakfast sandwich for a really reasonable price. read more

I have been getting sandwiches from this bakery since the late 1990s. My absolute favorite is the turkey with cranberry, cream cheese, avocado on honey corn bread. I love going to bakeries just to pace up and down along the display case as I make my dessert selection, but there were only 2 cases here, which had been hit pretty hard in the morning. My husband and I have come here twice. Both times were a little disappointing as the customer service seriously lacks. I stopped in here for breakfast since I was on this side of town. The service was excellent, the ham and cheese croissant was buttery and flavorful and in general I just liked the place. Plenty of seating and lots of regulars just chatting and enjoying their coffee. A real gem of a place. They had great looking cakes in the case, so I'll have to go get one the next time I need it. hit and miss ... sometimes the cookies are awesome, sometimes the taste dry and stale ... sometimes the services is nice, and sweet ... other times ... it's as tho you are invisible ... my last visit, and final visit was the other day ... i went in for a sandwhich and to pick up a cake for a bday ... 2 people working were chatting it up with another customer ... while I stood there, and waited, and waited and waited ... I finally interupted and asked if it was going to be awhile and i would came back ... one of the workers came over to help me ... i skipped ordering the sandwich once i got the attitude from the worker .... and just got a pre made cake. they need to work on their customer service !!! read more

I have given this place two chances. Both times leaving disappointed. Both times I came Saturday afternoon, both times they were out of tomatoes. The second time my daughter ordered a plain salami sandwich with tomatoes. After I ordered and paid, they came out saying they were out of salami. So my kid had to go to Safeway to get her sandwich. By the time she got back the rest of the fam was done with our Sweet Bakery sandwiches and didn't get to eat lunch together. The bread is decent, nothing to go rave crazy about. Usually too thick for my taste...and when the make the sandwiches they pile what you order right slap in the middle of the bread which makes for a difficult eat. Very disappointed. No complains! This place is pretty sweet ;) I work local so on my lunch breaks I'll hop in for a sandwich, the roast beef is excellent by the way. If I could rate "no stars" I would. Planning a party is a lot of work so when you place your custom cake order you put a lot of time into it. I ordered a simple cake with 24 matching cupcakes for my daughters birthday party. However, when I went to pick it up there was no cake. The lady behind the counter showed me the ticket while saying (I can never read this handwriting) it looks like they just didn't make your order.... so the order was there they just "forgot" to make it. She couldn't even offer anything to help as they did not even have 24 cupcakes available for me to buy. Very unprofessional. read more
