Nestled in Barnaveld on the way to the North Country, Sweet Basil's outer appearance looks like that of a home but the instead looks like half diner and have log cabin. The staff is friendly and the Portions are large and inexpensive with the a 4 item omelet with potatoes and toast costing $10. The only minor drawbacks are cash only with no atm and only bottled/canned drinks rather than fountain but other than that with proper preparation it's a very good place. read more

Today's food, Omelet came out not as ordered, my toast was burnt, my homefries burnt, was charged for replacement toast, when asked to remove, owner came out from the back with a snide remark because my 20 month old broke a dollar store chicken that he grabbed that was close to the table. She looked very inappropriate for working in a kitchen, as in, not clean. I will never return as food was poor, and owner is rude. I used to come often, she lost a good customer today. A decent enough breakfast place but nothing spectacular. A couple of things that are helpful to know - first is they do not take credit or debit cards; only cash. I understand there are costs associated with a method to take cards, but it's part of the modern world. I generally expect a restaurant to process digital payments, but they don't. For us - we weren't in a rush so we ran to a nearby location and got cash. The second thing to be aware of is they don't serve free (tap) water. If you ask for water, which we did - they bring bottled. I said thanks, but we sent it back - I wasn't going to pay for water at a restaurant. Other than those 2 quirks - not minor quirks, I might add - the breakfast was REALLY good. My wife and I shared one of their big breakfasts - eggs, toast, bacon, 3 huge slices of fresh toast, and hash browns. Everything was really tasty. The restaurant itself is an older building with an odd rooster theme throughout. They have trivia cards at the tables which passes the wait time for your meal, which wasn't particularly long. read more

Worst restaurant I've been to by far. I put in an application two weeks ago today was my first day and I'm already gone. So EMBARRASSING the way the owner spoke to me this morning in front of costumers!! Today was supposed to be my training day and my trainer was a no show so I was the only waitress there and the owner is the only other person working there, I was told she wouldn't be able to help me and that I needed to learn on my own and she didn't have time for my answer. Sad. Sad. Sad. I'm really disappointed. When I was told she was a hard person to work for I thought that meant she keeps you on your toes boy was I wrong. This place and owner has toxic and bitchy written all over. Go on your own will but me personally never again. I now understand why nobody is working there. my wife & i got a recommendation for this place from a farmstand on route 8 & OMG this was a bombastically delicious!! wishing i had taken photos because words may not capture the depth of wonderful! i had the haddock fish sandwich & the haddock was twice the size of what tasted like a house baked roll ... tartar was on point. my wife had the egg salad sandwich which was served on slabs of fresh house baked rye bread. if our travels ever take us this way we will certainly stop there again! read more

My husband & I were out for a motorcycle cycle ride on a Sunday morning. He took me to this restaurant for breakfast. It was packed. We were seated right away. The waitress was attentive & friendly. We both got the eggs over easy, home fries, Canadian bacon & toast. The Canadian bacon was thickly sliced & well cooked. Food was excellent! Signage said it was open for lunch but it wasn't. We had to wait until evening to eat there but it was worth it. Service was average. They need more wait staff for the size of the restaurant. Ambiance was good. read more

I went here a couple years ago and it was not memorable, so I decided to give it another try. Ordered a Belgian Waffle with blueberries, it had a very chemical like taste to it. Normally I don't let much deter me from finishing food I order unless it's really really terrible, which this was one of those occasions. I told the waitress, she didn't seem too concerned, and was definitely not concerned enough to take the 3/4 of a waffle I had remaining off of the bill. Looking forward to not returning. read more

We were the only ones in the restaurant on a Friday morning. Toast was moldy, no apology just asked if we wanted another kind. No coffee refill unless we got up to ask.
