Okay so this place is a couple hours from where I live but when I'm in the area I do like to stop here. I've only ever had breakfast and it's only usually been around 7:00 a.m.. it's a small little diner and usually has an older crowd there at least at the times that I've been there. Breakfast is pretty good, I haven't yet had anything that I didn't like, however one dish does stand out in my opinion and that would be the country fried steak. I ordered it a couple weeks ago and it was incredible, the best country fried steak that I've had anywhere and so when I was there a couple days ago I ordered it again. This way I could tell if the first time was a fluke or that's how they actually make it and it was just as good. Other places you order this and it comes out a little soggy or even cold in the middle, but Charlie's place does it perfectly. It does have gravy on it which isn't too spicy, which I consider a good thing because I can always add more spice but you can't really take it away if it's already there. Prices aren't too bad at least in comparison to other places. The place itself is pretty clean looking and there's plenty of parking lot to go around. They also have an outside dining area in the back however I'm usually there like I said pretty early in the morning so I've never seen anybody using it however probably a lunch thing. read more

Only reason for the one less Star is it used to be$12 for this meal which made other places look like crap for that value and now it's $17. I get it stuff has gone up but it feels like a 50% increase is a bit much. Service was great. Everyone was friendly. I'm on a Utica (adjacent) diner tour. Charlie's is fine. The ambiance is great and its got a good diner feel. It also has outdoor seating which is nice. The price isn't amazing, but then I may have just not adjusted to the new reality of INFLATION. The coffees good and the selection is solid, but I was a little disappointed by the hash browns and pancakes. Pancake was fine enough but the hashbrowns almost certain were once frozen. To be clear, they were hot and good when on the plate, but a frozen hash is much less crisp than a fresh pan cooked one. Maybe I'm crazy but I was definitely disappointed by it. Aside from that the service was good so I have no other real complaints. Good place. read more

Quiet and cozy diner for a comforting simple breakfast on a dreary morning. I got the Eggs Rosario because I had heard my sister-in-law's dad had a dish named after him. I had to stop by and try it out. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and perfectly lemony. It paired well with the spinach. I was most worried about how the poached eggs would come out, but they were just right. Beautifully set egg whites with a runny delicately encased yolk. I have yet to have a single bad experience whenever I've eaten at Charlie's. I am always satisfied with each meal had and would recommend if asked. read more

Cute little diner we stopped off on our road trip. Fun stop with outdoor seating. We chose to eat inside but our corner spot was ice cold. Even though we asked for them to turn down air it never seemed to warm up. So we went out and got our sweatshirts and ate quickly. We all enjoyed our brunch items. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, coffee, breakfast burger( so freakin good per my son) all delicious. Hard working staff but only two of them. One inside and one outside. We had to keep catching him to refill our coffee. Oh and only one bathroom, not ideal for a car full on a road trip. read more

This is your classic diner that looks like it's been here for 60 years and will look the exact same in another 60 years. The wait staff is incredible friendly. Aside from the pancakes that are so-so in my opinion, I haven't had a thing that wasn't incredible. PS if you're into hashbrowns, these guys have the best. Made from fresh potatoes instead of the dehydrated junk. It's that sort of stuff that demonstrates the kind of love and attention these guys put into their food. I stopped at this joint while in the area for work. It was about 1:30pm and noticed they closed at 2. Seems like they have a pretty extensive breakfast menu, but limited lunch menu. That didn't bother me because I'll usually eat most anything....also when a place usually only offers a few things they pretty good. I went with the veggie soup and chicken quesadilla with salsa. Both were good. Now that I think about it I should have asked for some sour cream for the quesadilla. ...oh well next time. It was a solid 4 star joint...better than average yet didn't blow my socks off. There's no reason I wouldn't stop back again. read more

I got this concoction called the Volcano.... it was awesome... hash browns, sausages, eggs, bacon, and a bunch of other yummy stuff, all mixed together.... Karen is very modest in her description of her diner. I am 60 years old and breakfast is my favorite meal. It just doesn't get any better than Charlie's. Unlike another breakfast place down the street, which we stopped frequenting because they are stingy with ingredients (e.g., their giambotte is low on escarole and high on potatoes), Charlie's does not skimp on quantity or quality. Pancakes never taste greasy like some of the chain breakfast places. Cozy, friendly atmosphere where "everybody knows your name." Best of the best! Looks like a rundown shack from the outside but has a warm cozy interior. The wait staff was friendly and accommodating and we had no wait for a table. The menu was extensive and highly customizable. Charlies place is a cozy little diner located (for me atleast) along a highway between Utica and Syracuse. Being from the diner state, its easy for me to make such an identification. Charlies delivers exactly what it sets out to and that's tasty food made with love. Sounds cheesy but its true. With a highly attentive staff that never let my coffee get less than half full, every dish that was brought out looked tastier than the next. I decided on their special "the volcano" which is not for the weak hearted (is really any diner food?) The volcano erupted with flavors of sausage, eggs, hash browns and more all mixed together. Biscuits and gravy were hard to pass up to as they were equally excellent. Needless to say I was stuffed for hours afterwards. B and G seem to be a diner staple everywhere except NJ. If anyone knows where to get good biscuits and gravy in NJ. Hit me up! Don't see myself ever heading back in that direction but who really knows. If your every in that area, Charlies place should NOT be just a diner to pass by. read more
