I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality and quantity that Sweet Basil Thai Cuisine served. I ordered the mixed vegetable stir-fried and added shrimp. so many good fresh vegetables and at least a half a dozen large plump fresh shrimp. I drive through Cedar City every year and will make this my go to place. read more

I ordered Larb which is a favorite I always order when ever I eat at an authentic Thai restaurant. What I got was ice burg lettuce with a little grated carrot, some pork and a sauce drizzled over. This wasn't like any Larb I have ever eaten before. Perhaps another option would be better. read more

My friend visiting from Korea wanted "something with rice" so we decided we would stop in Cedar City on our way back from the Grand Canyon. We chose Cedar City because we got very lucky last time we came to town. I'm not sure what it is but Cedar City seems to have some pretty good restaurants. It was very close to closing time but they were still kind enough to seat us for dinner. Staff were both professional and quick to respond. We were served by a male waiter who was so polite. Later a woman who also worked there came by and spoke with us. The food was typical Thai food but it had a nice kick to it. My friend had the fried rice which he ate all of. I had one of the noodle dishes. The only thing this place was lacking was a Thai spice tray. They bring the chili on the side. I like having all the options to flavor and spice my food just right. The staff was very friendly and happy to explain anything on the menu. The food was delicious. The only thing I would mention is that when they ask what level of heat you like, plan low. Food is above average, but I still have to give it a one-star because the boss tried to cheat us by adding an additional " 15% service charge" to our party-of-3 check when it clearly states on their menu that they would only do that for party of 5 or more. When we asked the server what the service charge was for, he looked away from us and pointed to the man behind the counter doing the finances (supposedly the boss) and said, "he did it". We went up to the counter and told him about the service charge. Instead of apologizing for the mistake, he became defensive and said "I get it, I get it". Maybe he's feeling guilty? I wondered how many people he has cheated in the past. It is not the norm to have an additional service charge added onto your check unless you have a big group (like 5 or more), and the menu will clearly state how much gratuity and the size of the group which the gratuity will be included. read more

The drunken noodle dish was made with fresh ingredients. The sauce was flavorful, but the beef was unseasoned, a bit tough and had no taste. The same was true of the pad Thai. The shrimp fried rice was ok. You can order a spice level from 1-10. I ordered a 2. This is our go to restaurant for seafood pad Thai when we stay overnight in Cedar City. I have tried other restaurants in CA and none come close. The rest room is clean. The prices are reasonable. The service is attentive without making you feel rushed. I look forward to stopping in for dinner this October on our way to Ogden for the deer hunt. read more

Dear Sweet Basil Thai, After days of eating what I call "White people food", I was overjoyed to stumble through your lovely Asian doors. We ordered Green curry, pineapple fried rice, Pad Thai, Pad See-u, mixed vegetables, spring rolls and mango sticky rice. I didn't care for your Pad See-u, I thought it was a bit too heavy on the fish sauce and the noodles were not the flat chow funn style noodle I am accustomed to. I came to learn that Utah doesn't have chow funn noodles, much to my children's dismay... However, everything else was stellar. I was especially impressed with your pineapple fried rice, a curry vegetable fried rice with pineapple chunks. It was savory and sweet and completely wonderful. The mango sticky rice also was a delight, and a restaurant that serves it always gets a star in my book. Best part? The york peppermint patties that arrived with the check. One for each person! Stopped at this place twice on a recent road trip while crossing through Utah- once on the way from Zion national park and once on the way from Bryce Canyon. There was a reason we stopped a second time..we liked it so much the first time around! The ambience is very good, staff friendly and most importantly the food is great. Tried the green curry and garlic sauce the first time. Second time we had the tom Yum soup , pad thai and drunken noodles. All the dishes were made well (probably a little sweet though but nothing that the siracha hot sauce cant fix). We were on a week+ long road trip and have been eating burgers and pizza and other "American" food so we were dying for some sort of Asian food, we actually wanted Chinese but settled for Thai. There were 14 of us but unfortunately we couldn't all sit together because there weren't enough seats at a table and there were a lot of other people there. We ended up splitting up to 4 tables. The service was kinda slow but it's probably because they had a full house. Going in I wasn't really expecting much from this restaurant. I mean how good could the Thai food be? After all we were in cedar city, ut but boy was I wrong. The food was delicious. My table ordered pad thai with shrimp, chicken fried rice, basil sauce chicken, and punang curry with chicken. I thought everything was really good but my uncle thought the pad thai was a little bit on the sweet side and the basil chicken wasn't really what we had expected. Its very saucy unlike the basil chicken we have back in the Bay Area. This place is owned by a Thai family. The husband is white and was originally from San Fracnisco. Stopped in Cedar City, UT for the night and 6 of us were looking for something local and not burgers. A quick check of Yelp showed a Thai place near by. Sweet Basil Thai is inviting with a welcoming staff albeit short a few people. One or two more front end people would have made it feel a little less rushed. I felt bad asking for anything because the one guy out front working the tables was constantly hurrying. The wait for our meals was acceptable. Several people had the Pad Thai which they all seemed to like. I ordered the red curry with chicken and asked it to be a 10 on his scale of 1-10. While the food was quite tasty it wasn't spicy at all. Adding a generous heap of crushed chili peppers didn't bring it up to what I had hoped for. Something I liked was the big pot of rice for the table instead of everyone getting their own little bowl. This is the only restaurant I've visited in Cedar City so I have no idea if there are other Thai restaurants in the area. Absolutely amazing food. Sometimes you order several different sauces and they all taste the same. We had a red curry, yellow curry, and masman, and each was uniquely different. The clear soup with lime, mushrooms, and shrimp was delicious. Crab wraps were light and did not taste fried. Everything was excellent. We ordered the chicken satay as an appetizer, which was some of the best I ever had as the flavors were so distinct. I ordered the seafood soup, which was delicious. My group and I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, Pork Pad See-U, Masman Curry, and the Pineapple Fried Rice. All at medium spice. All of which were very tasty. The Pad Thai in my opinion had a slight taste of sweetness and then the a spicy kick at the end of every bite. The Pork Pad See-U, has a very spicy bite to it (that's the way I like it), but it was too spicy for other members to my party. The Masman Curry was delicious, the coconut milk mixed into the soup made all the contents seem a lot more tender than it really was. And finally the Pineapple Fried Rice.... Absolutely recommended if you do find yourself driving through Utah. (For me I'd up the spiciness to the next level) overall it was delicious. And very large portion to be shared with at least 4 normal eaters, where as in my case enough for myself and maybe another. My wife and I have enjoyed eating at Sweet Basil Thai since they opened several years ago. We visit Cedar City at least once a year when we attend the Utah Shakespeare Festival. Whenever we go, Sweet Basil is on our agenda. Sweet Basil is an excellent choice in a town that has few ethnic food options. Some people here on Yelp seem to think that the service is a little slow, but that hasn't been our experience. I mean, this is a SIT DOWN restaurant, not a fast food place. And even when they are busy, we get our food in a very reasonable amount of time. Food quality is very good, and the husband and wife who own and run the place are delightful and helpful. Considering that this place is located in a small college town where Sizzler is seen as a gourmet restaurant, Sweet Basil Thai is a welcome relief to those of us who like fresh ingredients and varied, tasty options. read more

Being part Thai myself, I knew the food was not authentic, but good enough for mine and husband's taste (he is Caucasian). I was surprised to even see a Thai restaurant in Cedar City because the majority of residents are Caucasian, but we enjoyed it. We did enter expecting it being owned by Asians, sorry just a bit stereotypical, but it looked as though the owner is white. The waiter was very polite, and took our order and had our food out in a timely manner. It was dinner time so the place was starting to become packed. I ordered the lahd na with chicken and it tasted great, I am just used to eating the thicker egg noodles, not the thin ones. Husband ordered the pad Thai with the spice level of 7 and he said it tasted great. Although it is not authentic, we will be returning when I don't feel like cooking my Lao/Thai food lol. read more
