Having lived in Hawaii and grown accustomed to some of the most amazing Thai food outside of Thailand, I didn't expect much from a Thai restaurant in a small Utah town. Unfortunately, this place met my expectations. The soup was just okay. The regular rice was undercooked, and the sticky rice was on the skimpy side and came out in one lump. The garlic seafood was watery, and didn't have much garlic. I requested a mild to medium heat and it was way too bland for my taste. The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because the rest of my table said their food was fairly good. Hubby and SIL enjoyed their panang curries, and our daughter liked her chicken fried rice. I want to give kudos to the owner of Sweet Basil Thai who let us order to-go over half an hour after he had officially closed. We had just drove into Cedar City without realizing that we had crossed into a later time zone. So we thought we had twenty minutes until closing, but really had passed closing time by forty minutes. It was our only veggie option in a town that doesn't really cater to vegetarians. However, if you want a family-friendly edited version of Scarface to rent, Cedar City does have many options for that. read more

The food was authentically Thai with all its wonderful, complex and subtle flavor (not the usual Americanized facsimile we often find here). My family loves going here. It's very good Thai food. The couple who run the place are so cute. My daughter wanted to go there for her birthday dinner. They were very accommodating to our requests. The only negative thing I have to say is that they charged us for extra white rice. I was a little put off by that. Need to save room for deserts. They are excellent. Absolutely delicious sauces! I ordered the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) and I can honestly say they were the best I ever had. Usually it comes as a soup at most Thai places and the flavored get lost when the noodles are picked up out of the broth. Here the drunken noodle sauce is so good I devoured the whole thing (which never happens with me). I had it medium with jalapeños and extra veggies. The other person ordered chicken with garlic sauce and extra veggies. She, too, cleared her plate with the delicious sauce. I will definitely stop in next time I am passing through town! read more

My friend and I went to Sweet Basil Thai for lunch. I'd never had thai food, but it was one of her favorite cuisines. We ordered yellow curry and it was absolutely wonderful. Service was a bit slow given we were the only people in the restaurant that day but we were in no hurry. The atmosphere is a bit simple. They don't have a fountain for their soda in the kitchen so they use cans and there was a visible, large bag of empty soda cans sitting by the register. It wasn't problematic, but not what I usually expect in a sit-down restaurant. Had that been the only visit I'd easily give this restaurant a 4-5 star rating. It was great! Unfortunately, we were so pleased we went back the next day. It was night and day. We were, once again, the only table in the restaurant. It still took a good ten minutes to have our order taken. When the food finally arrived the product was very different than it had been the other day. The curry was very watery, almost to the point of being a broth, and my friend pulled out a large hair from the dish that belonged to neither of us. We didn't complain (we both work in food service and know these things can happen and we were in a hurry so didn't want a fresh dish) so I can't say how they would have remedied the situation. My first visit was easily 4-5 stars. The next day it was definitely a 1. So we'll average it out and take one away for being unpredictable. Good luck visiting on a 5 star day! read more

Not a large restaurant, but the staff is very welcoming and the food was amazing. After moving here from California and from a predominantly Asian community, my wife and I missed having good food. Had a late dinner here. Very nice and friendly staff. Nice restaurant floor though the decor seems a little contrived. The reviews I have read made me excited to eat here and I was dissappointed. The first dishes I always order at a new Thai restaurant are the Green Curry, Pad Thai, and the Massaman Curry. I tried the Massaman Curry with Chicken and was dissappointed by its blandness, careless seasoning, and almost nonexistant chicken. I also tried the Larb and stopped eating after finding a piece of pork black with rot. Rice was carelessly overly mushy. I really wanted to like this place. Sincerely. I love Thai food and was excited to find a place in Cedar City. I want to like this place so bad I will go back and try a meatless Pad Thai earlier in the day. Keep your fingers crossed! read more

I am Thai. My husband and I went to a Zion and Bryce National Park, stayed overnight in Cedar City on the way. We wanted to have Thai food so went to this rest. I had a chance to speak with Thai cooker and asked if she could make an authentic Thai taste for me. She did not say ...no but she also did not say... yes. She said she could cook the same as other Thai Rest in USA .....(?...) I ordered Pad See-U with pork., my husband ordered Chicken Cashew. Waiter served my entrée and I though he gave me the wrong food. I said "I did not order this?" Turned out that was Pad See U that I ordered. It was nothing near what Pad See-U should be. It should have thick /wide noodle with Dark sauce. My entrée looked like pad thai without sweet sauce. Pork was VERY OLD. I could not eat them. I did not tell the owner to change it because I did not think to go back there again. My husband Chicken Cashew was ok. But the portion was very small. Not good experience for taste and money. This was an OK place. As you can tell from the reviews, their spice level is variable. I spoke extensively with my waiter, and so ordered my food "3" which he described as a Jalapeno without seeds. Nevertheless, I received one meal that was too hot for any in my group of 3 to eat. I did let my waiter know that it far surpassed his opinion that "3 = jalapeno without seeds" but I still had to pay for it (and it was not replaced with something I could eat). That night I went to bed hungry, and felt that I should have pushed the waiter on the food. Seriously, a restaurant should stand by its interpretation of spice levels, especially because all other items (ordered as a "3") were spiced correctly. Would I go back? The owners are so sweet to our family, and the food is amazing. The curry and pad Thai are every bit as good as the number one rated Thai restaurant in Las Vegas that we have gone to for decades. Their red and yellow curry might be better. Small, clean, recently renovated restaurant by Walmart. We drive an hour to have dinner here. Well worth it. Try the mango sticky rice for desert. They always ask how spice I want my food (on a scale of 1-10) and I always get 10. I then have to add Sriracha sauce to it to make it spicier. We ordered take out from here on our way home to AZ. It was close to our hotel (right off the 15) and the food was prepared quick. I had the Sweet Basil Chicken and my husband had the Yellow Curry. They were both delish! Mine was considered a "spicy dish" and it had a bite to it...I would say on a 1-5 it was a 3.5. My husbands curry was really good, great curry flavor with a sweet after taste. Meh. I was really hoping to be impressed by this place, but I was just disappointed. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, crab rolls, homemade fried bananas, and a Thai Iced Tea. First the crab rolls: while ok, lacked flavor. They come with sweet chili sauce, but even that was a little bland. Nothing special. Pad Thai with shrimp: I usually order veggie Pad Thai, but that wasn't a menu option here, and there weren't many veggies in it at all. Nor were there many shrimp (about 5). It was a little dry and slightly bland. Granted, I'm not a fan of spicy food, so I ordered it without spice, but the Pad Thai sauce should still have FLAVOR if not SPICE. And it is served with steamed rice, which I've also never come across before. Why serve a rice noodle dish with more rice? That's a lot of rice... Homemade fried banana: I was hoping form something more like fried plantains, but these were like spring rolls with banana filling served with honey dipping sauce. Again, they were ok, but nothing special. Thai Iced Tea: fine. Not too hard to get that right. I got my order to go, so I can't really speak to the atmosphere of the place except to say that when I walked in to pick up my order I was ignored by the staff until I worked my way to the back of the restaurant where the cashier is located and told them I had an order to pick up. Since they didn't take my name when I called in my order it took them awhile to figure out what was mine. It was a little strange. And a little overpriced for what it is. The portions, while a sufficient amount of food, are a little small for the prices they are charging. I might go back if I have an extreme hankering for Thai food, since it is really the only option in town, but I won't be frequenting the place. read more

This place is a wast of time! First they get crazy with the fish sauce. It's on almost every thing. The meat is not freshly cocked, chicken is bad as with what they call their beef. Really disappointed. Chicken satay skewers were deep fried. Pad Thai was strangely sweet. One of our party ordered his curry 8/10 on spicy scale and it wasn't at all spicy. The seafood fried rice was supposed to be spicy but was not, despite being a 7 on a hotness level of 1 to 10. This dish didn't taste like a seafood dish at all. Item to item, things fall short. Food is too salty. Drunken noodles are absolutely not drunken noodles. Their mushrooms are either canned or they soak them for way too long. Very good food and service. Greeted immediately and seated. Everything was very tasty. So conveniently located right off the freeway. My favorite thing here is when I asked about MSG in specific items on the menu, the waiter went out of his way to bring me a handwritten list of which foods contained MSG, wheat, and/or gluten. The list also said which foods DID NOT contain these things. I have reactions to foods containing MSG(Migraines every time I get exposed) and I had no problems at all. We will be back. read more

I've eaten my fair share of Thai food and I felt this place held up very well. It was our first time here so my wife and I got very basic dinners - Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Fried Rice (to-go). We loved it. Their spice scale is a 1-10 scale and I ended with a 7 which was perfect. Still very spicy but not overbearing for someone who loves spicy food. My only problem barring me giving this place 5 stars is the lack of welcoming service. I felt like the employees were there because they didn't have a choice. No cheer, joy, or smiles.
