Inside is a modestly lit atmosphere which works well for what they are trying to achieve. The service was nice and friendly . The food here is great, mixed with some cultural favorites as well. Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at Sweet Citrus in Burlingame. My order was made incorrectly, and when I politely explained that I had received the wrong drink, I was told I would have to pay for a replacement instead of having the mistake corrected. I want to be clear that this is not a reflection of the staff. They were polite and were simply following the rules set by management. My disappointment is with the policy itself. I'm currently pregnant, and because of my nausea, there are only a few specific drinks I can tolerate. This particular drink has been one of the few things that actually helps, so receiving the wrong order wasn't just a minor inconvenience. I simply wanted the drink I had ordered and paid for. After posting my review, I received a response saying that if I had mentioned my pregnancy and that I couldn't tolerate another drink, they would have replaced it. While I appreciate the response, I don't believe customers should have to explain personal circumstances to have an incorrect order corrected. Whether someone is pregnant, has dietary restrictions, allergies, or no special circumstances at all, if a business makes a mistake and prepares the wrong order, it should simply be replaced. I've been to many other drink shops, and even when a customer simply doesn't like a drink, they're often happy to remake it. In this case, the mistake wasn't mine, yet I was expected to pay again. That level of customer service was surprising and very disappointing. When I think of acai bowls, this is the first shop to pop up in my head. I haven't visited in months, yet the quality and taste of the bowls were top tier. I ordered the Classic bowl and Chocolate Berry bowl (sub Nutella for PB). The cashier was accommodating and made the bowls in a timely manner. Located inside the Burlingame Farmers Market in downtown, the establishment does not have its own entry - you must go inside the grocery store to arrive at the mini shoppe. No private parking lot, either, but we haven't had any problems with finding a nearby space for our car in walking distance along Broadway Avenue. Did I mention that this place is tiny? Just a teenie weenie bit bigger than a mall food court vendor with a bench at the counter and a few products for sale on the two side walls. A few table and chairs are available outside if you want to stick around to eat. The menu offers an array of Smoothies, Juices, and Bowls (AÇAI/PITAYA and GREEK YOGURT). Unfamiliar with pitaya and how it compares to açaí on our first visit, a helpful staff member offered to provide samples of each for us to taste which we appreciated. Finding the pitaya on the bland side, we went with AÇAI Bowls, specifically the CHOCOLATE BERRY. Z customized his bowl to replace the BANANA with BLACKBERRY and I added CHIA SEEDS to mine. They're located inside the Burlingame's Farmers Market on Broadway. There is a small parking lot in the back of the market. As for Sweet Citrus, they have a small fixed stand at the front of the market. Their menu is actually quite extensive and they have everything from fresh orange juice to smoothies to Bowls. I've had their orange juice and their Sunrise bowl(with Acai) on several occasions over the last year. Here is the challenge for me now, Palmetto is not far away from Sweet Citrus and their quality, customizable options, sizing, and pricing for their Bowls(at least) far outclasses what Sweet Citrus can offer. It is a little pricey for a smoothie (about $8), but honestly, I feel like it's worth it. The classic acai bowl is a bit in the sweet size and made a great treat that is on the healthier side. Unlike other acai bowls from other stores I have tried (SoCal, Seattle/Tacoma) that taste watered down, Sweet Citrus' acai base is dense and perfectly sweetened.
