Solid Drinks with Icy Service The drinks here are actually quite good, but the overall experience was dampened by some incredibly icy service right at the start. When we first arrived, we asked the server where the restroom was. He simply told us to go upstairs. We walked all the way up, only to realize the restroom required a key. It was a bit frustrating that he didn't mention this upfront, though his annoyance with us asking was already pretty clear. When we came back down to ask for the key and promised we were going to order, he insisted that we had to place our order first. We complied, placed our order, and finally got the key. By the time we got back down, our drinks were ready and they were honestly very solid. The rest of the visit was fine, but the entire interaction would have been so much more pleasant if the server had just been transparent from the beginning about needing to order for key access--or better yet, trusted that we would follow through on our word. Okinawa roasted milk tea with boba. I requested 25% sweet , but the drink was still overly sweet. Not sure if they did not read the label or this place is just very heavy on the sugar??? There is little to no Okinawa roasted tea flavor, simply sugar and milky notes.. boba itself was very soft, almost disintegrating, suggesting it was old and sitting on a heated pot for hours. Jasmine green tea was very bitter and not much jasmine taste . I've had plenty of other teas from various boba shops before so I know what it is supposed to taste like. This is not simply matter of personal preference, but it tasted like they steeped the tea with high temperature to get as much color as possible out of the tea leaves, to maximize profit with zero regards to the quality of the outgoing product. The tea leaves were likely used several times steeped in high temperature, instead of switching out for fresh tea leaves. Maximizing profits, saving time by using high temperature to steep the tea to develop color instead of flavor is what results in this low quality, bitter, tasteless tea. The only resemblance to tea is the color. Not flavor, not aroma, not taste. Over all extremely underwhelming. It really reminded me of an Asian salted plum and was delicious! As much as I liked the flavor and that the chicken was moist and juicy, I realized that some of the chicken was undercooked and raw :(. This shop smells so good right when I swing the door open and walk inside. My go to drink is always A2- Black Tea Salted Cheese which is the number 1 drink on the Top 10 list. This Happy Lemon is located in the downtown Burlingame area, but it is a bit easy to miss if you are not looking for it. There is a parking lot nearby, if you do not mind the short walk. I had been at this location a few times and they are usually not busy compared to the other locations that I had been to. The drinks are similar to the other Happy Lemon locations that I had been to. Came here to try their most popular drink, the black tea with salted cheese (medium $4.25, large $4.75). I hadn't had a salted cheese drink before, so I was excited to try it. They recommended no toppings, as you are supposed to drink the drink like a coffee by tilting it 45 degrees in order to get all of the different flavors together.
