Honestly cannot believe it took me this long to write a review for Sylvia and all her awesomeness. Hands down she is the best wax professional eva! She's clean, efficient, AFFORDABLE and becomes like family after so many conversations---which definitely help distract you from what's going on down there. lol. I swear I feel like she's my wax lady/therapist all in one from giving me such great advice for crazy stuff I am always telling her about my family and life in general. Also--for us extra melanin blessed folks---sometimes we face more ingrown hairs and discoloration from waxes and I've never experienced that with Sylvia. I could not be more disappointed! I have reached out three times with no success for an appointment for a pedicure. Apparently the person who does pedicures does not want any new business becasue I was told that my messages were delivered to her? What a joke and not a good way to run a business. Perhaps they don't want male clients? I was told by somebody there that they do take male clients, so then why don't I get a response? been going to Sylvia for waxing since I first found her on Yelp... probably over 6 years? haven't been able to go to anyone else since. She's like the friend you don't talk to for a while but then when u do, u pick up where u left off..except a MUCH closer friendship depending what ur getting waxed. ANGEL of DEATH. LoL Parking: street parking only from what I know but I've never NOT been able to get a spot in front of her shop which is a converted home I believe (which she shares other businesses with). It's paid meter parking. Making a left out onto Woodman can be a little tough but that's not her fault Wax: I'm not expert on wax so I'll Js say..it's waxing..it's gunna hurt..but she'll keep talking to you and keep u distracted, Js make sure to breathe and maybe take Tylenol before if you're more sensitive. She uses a new tongue depressor Everytime she applied a new strip...wax might get on you but it's pretty minimal so I don't usually go out anywhere til after I go back home and wash up. She also uses tweezers to get some stragglers Service: you can text her for appointments. She's so sweet and actually sounds like she cares about what's going on in ur life. No one said a wax would be painless, but why not choose an esthetician who knows what she's doing, is quick and efficient (i swear i was done in 15 minutes!), and makes you feel comfortable? i found all of the above with Sylvia! When I made my appointment, Sylvia asked if I knew how to get to Sweet Dreams and she clarified that they were located right behind Shane's Auto in a white house. It was easy enough to find with those directions and parking was fairly easy to find on Alcott. I can't believe she only charges $35 for the full monty! With her skill, it's a definite steal. As others have mentioned, she honestly refuses the tip which is unheard of these days. She told me to save it for my next visit. I'm just gonna come right out and say it... Getting waxed for the first time by anyone is about a 9 on the awkward 1 to 10 scale!! Depending on the wax you are getting you are either going to find yourself on all fours with your arse arched up into the air or on your back pinning your legs back. It's a real fun experience, but hey we do it, because we care. With that said, when you do encounter someone who makes you feel comfortable, well...you clearly YELP about it! I was really swindled by the yelp representation of this spot!! It was super cute and everyone working there was extremely nice and friendly but the prices are definitely way more than $ and the end result was mediocre. For starters the place is a little tough to find...it's address is Ventura but the building is actually on allot. Inside its like a house that has been converted into a salon. I wanted a walk in mani pedi and I only had to wait about 10or 15 minuets. There was only one nail technician on site. She was lovely but very slow and spent a lot of time on her iPhone during the mani/pedi. I want gel polish and was not able to look at any kind of sample colors...the gel polish bottles were just all stored in various drawers. Truthfully the pedi came out awesome but the mani chipped in FOUR FINGERS...this is a gel manicure!!! It shouldn't chip for like two weeks?!?! Also my cuticles weren't really dealt with and the polish pooled up at the edge of the cuticle by the nail bed. On top of everything else it was pretty pricey! $75 for both...which I wouldn't mind if it hadn't chipped ON THE FIRST DAY! Probably won't be back read more

I found Sylvia here on Yelp and decided to give her a try, it'd been an embarrassingly long time since I'd managed to make an appointment for a Brazillian wax so I was happy when I was able to make one a day in advance. Her high marks here are very well deserved! I give extra points for anyone who can do a speedy job down there- the faster they go, the less time I spend laying there and sweating! Not only is she fast, but she's good, she barely missed any little strays AND was able to tweeze me without hurting me! (normally the tweezers come out and I die- somehow one hair at a time is more painful than when sixty come out.) Just amazing. My sister and I were late for our appointments ( Friday traffic is pure evil, that is all) but Sylvia squeezed us in anyway and didn't rush to get through a procedure that I consider fairly delicate. We both got Brazilians at $35 apiece and she wouldn't accept a tip. In this city, I feel like that is unheard of. The space is comfortable, a cute renovated house just off of Ventura behind a car place. It would have a been a little confusing to find but we were forewarned by a friend that it wasn't exactly on Ventura. There is a sign in front so that helps. I will definitely be going back and I highly recommend paying a visit to Sylvia. She is very nice, makes you feel comfortable and is great at what she does. I've been here a couple times. Here is my honest review. I like Sylvia's energy, she's chilled out and friendly, she definitely makes you feel comfortable considering, she's working in such a delicate area of you body. I thought her pricing was pretty decent, and even though she said she does not accept tips (this is true)... I couldn't help but give her one, it just felt weird not to. Her technique is average. She works through the area in a reasonable amount of time, she's not super fast, and she's not s-l-o-w. I have had several Brazilian bikini waxes, so I know what i'm talking about here...and I found her waxes to be somewhat painful. Obviously, there will be SOME pain, but this was a little more than necessary compared to other waxers I have experienced. I've been going to Sylvia for over seven years and can honestly say that this is the best brazilian wax I have ever received anywhere- hands down! She is extremely efficient and quick. (two qualities that you really want in a waxer) Plus, I make an appointment and NEVER have to wait. She is always on time. I love that! She is super friendly and makes you feel totally comfortable, which is no small task considering she sees you completely naked from the waist down, and I don't know about you, but for me, that's a short list of people! That being said, She is stupid fast, very accommodating to clients, extremely customer service oriented and has really good cookies if you happen to be waiting. I get a underarm, 1/2 leg wax, brazillian and I think it takes about 15 minutes each time. Her prices are unbelievably low. She also gives great advice and is just an overall great person. To start off, Sylvia is so sweet just like everyone says. Very precise too as she went over and checked my brazillian with tweezers and aloe. Made me feel very comfortable and didn't accept the top I tried to give her. However, no where did it tell me on the site that they only use soft wax (the wax that needs to be pulled off with a cloth rather than hard wax). I have sensitive skin and soft wax is the most painful way to remove hair. In hindsight, I should have asked when I made the appointment but with such great reviews, I assumed they would be using nicer products. The facility was not very sanitary looking and they did not accept American Express. Would have had a much better experience if she had used hard wax but again, I completely forgot to ask. read more

Sweet Dreams was everything I hoped it would be. As awkward and as nerve wracking as the waxing process can be (today was my first time! ahhh), my experience was amazing. Sylvia is extremely friendly, talented, and experienced - we were talking the entire time, and before I knew it, I was in and out of there in no time. All the reviews I read here were definitely spot-on about one thing: she's fast. Even though it was my first time getting waxed in those errr nether regions, the pain was so minimal - Sylvia's a Wonder Woman when it comes to her trade. She really is. I called and started to leave a message and they picked up the phone and were very accommodating. I just got my eyebrows done and had a great experience. Very nice, good work and good prices. I previously reviewed Sylvia with 5 stars and now I am reviewing Denise with 5 stars. I was very nervous about having my makeup done for my wedding. I find that the makeup artist often makes you look like a drag queen version of yourself. ABSOLUTELY NOT the case with Denise. If I could have her do my makeup everyday, I would. I looked like a (much) better version of myself. She did an amazing job. Just gorgeous. It was subtle but incredibly effective and she totally got what I was going for. My husband was beside himself. She also did the make up for others in my bridal party and they looked perfect too. I can't say enough great things about her talent. I went to Sylvia for a bikini wax right before my husband and I left for our honeymoon in Cancun. Now, all of us ladies know that there's nothing pleasant about getting waxed, especially, ahem, down there. But Sylvia truly is a Wonder Woman. She's been waxing bikinis for almost as long as I've been alive, and it shows. She is extremely talented. Super fast and efficient, and the pain is surprisingly minimal because she knows how to keep you distracted. Oh and she only charged me $30 for a Brazilian (maybe a first-timer discount, but either way, what a steal!) The place can be a little tricky to find if you don't know what to look for. But it's in a converted house right behind Shane's, a car dealership. Just turn onto Allot Ave. and park on the street. I have read all the yelp reviews about Sweet Dreams and you know what?? I am SO GLAD I decided to try this place out! Sylvia is....AWESOME and SO SWEET! I told her I had a hard time finding the place (technically it is not on Ventura Blvd...it is on Alcott) and she felt horrible and apologized! She said that she will better tell clients (especially those who are first time clients) where it is at. Yes, getting waxed hurt but she made me feel so comfortable! I went here for the first time today. The waiting area was nice and clean and cozy, and Sylvia offered me cookies and coffee while I waited (I got there early). The wax (brazillian) took awhile (because it had been awhile since my last one--and she was being through) but Sylvia was sure to check in and make sure I was doing okay. She was also very good at making conversation which helped distract me from the wax. She also made sure to pop my ingrown hairs. Finally, when I asked her if there was a line for tip when I paid she REFUSED to take my tip--she told me it was silly to tip her and to put that towards my next wax. They claimed to painless. It made me miss Sweet Dreams so. Damn. Much. Really, her technique is so fabulous, you barely feel a thing. That's huge for big strips of hair getting ripped out of your va-jay-jay. And ingrowns are somehow just not as prominent after a wax here. Conversation is effortless and makes the horribly awkward not quite so bad. You almost forget you're spreading your knees for a stranger. I visited based on the Yelp reviews, and the ladies are absolutely right! Sylvia is awesome--friendly and engaging, skillful and quick. and the prices are definitely phenomenal. And yes, she won't take a tip. The salon is in a converted house built in the 1920s and it really made me feel at home, unlike those sterile and overly crowded salons that often charge twice as much (not including tip). I've been going to Sylvia for at least 10 years now! She is amazing - so fast and remembers everything about you. You don't even notice what's happening because you're so engaged in your conversation with her and it's over before you know it. Sylvia is also awesome because she keeps her waiting room moving! If you get there early and the appointment before you is running late, she'll shift you around and get you in and out. Also, if you totally forgot to make an appointment right before a big pool party, she'll find a way to get you in to see her.
