I am someone who cannot study at home very well. I need to be outside of my comfort zone in order to do well. When I finally found Sweet Eugene's I fell in love! Walking in I saw so many places to sit and different rooms with unique artwork and decoration. After finding a place to relax and study, I decided to try the coffee. I asked for a latte sweetened. The staff was quick and helpful. Another time I went I tried a sandwich for lunch. I ordered the Southwestern Chicken Panini. DELICIOUS. I always tip a dollar now when I order food because the staff makes it themselves then delivers it to you wherever you are sitting. I am very impressed with this coffee house because there is no place like this where I used to live. read more

This is my go to place. It has a large variety of drinks and food. Coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, smoothies, espresso, etc. Crepes, sandwiches, donuts, kolaches, cheesecakes. I'm usually greeted by a friendly barista, but there are times when all they ask is for my order and give me my total. The atmosphere is cool. The place has several rooms where you can after you've gotten your drink, and each room has it's own personal touch to it. It does have a drive thru which is a big plus for the times when you're in a rush. I give it 4 stars because I often see used mugs and plates at empty tables. I went to Sweet Eugene's when I was staying off campus for my NSC this summer and was in dire need of coffee. I wish I found this place before it was my last day because I love it! Such a cool atmosphere, they roast their own beans in-store and they have some amazing pastry options. The people there were so friendly and their coffee was great! I got an iced soy latte, and I actually had to get a second one before I left because it was so good! I love how they cold brew their espresso. 2 years later and I still love this place. However, a majority of their employees don't know how to operate an espresso machine very well at all. Their specialty coffees have always disappointed me unless they've been iced. I will never trust them to steam my milk. Also their muffins tend to be super dry. read more

It's actually pretty revealing that virtually none of the 55 odd pics here are about coffee. Desserts and shakes mostly. Therein lies one problem. Coffee houses should not be restaurants. Folks here are nice, though the plethora of frat and sorority types, and the aggressive religious witnessing gets old fast, and unsettling. Not a fan of that. Coffee is ok...lots of gas stations and convenience stores have comparable coffee now. I've never found the coffee here that good. It's family friendly, which I guess is good if you have or like families. It's in a strip mall. I moved here from a coffee house culture and it was the only game in town then. Obviously it has a strong local appeal, like Koppe Bridge and other places whose popularity I honestly don't get. read more

My boyfriend and I went to get some donuts and coffee there this morning and the cashier was so nice to everyone and when it was our turn she just rolled her eyes and took our order. We ordered donut holes, a blueberry cake donut, 2 kolaches and 1 glazed donut. We were missing the blueberry cake donut but we didn't want to talk to the cashier again since she was rude to us. She was very nice to the people after us and before us but for some reason was rude to us. Is it because we're Asian? That sure seems like the case since we were the only Asian people in the shop. My wife and I went here on a recommendation for date night. We won't be returning. She ordered tea and a sandwich. I ordered a coffee drink and dinner crepe. The tea was the only thing that turned out right. The coffee was slightly more than room temperature. It took over 45 minutes for the sandwich and crepe to be prepared. It was so long that I went to the counter to make sure something hadn't happened. The crepe was sitting on a plate and the sandwich hadn't even been started yet. Both came with chips, but we weren't given a choice of what kind. It took so long for our orders to be prepared we had to take them to go (date nights usually run on a schedule). Got home and found jalapeño chips. Threw them in the trash. So basically we paid $22 for a tea done right, a coffee done wrong, and two cold orders to go (with no chips). Won't make this mistake again. Too many other places in town can do it right for the same price. read more

Not a real coffee shop, they cannot make a traditional macchiatos. This is pretty much Starbucks level coffee but they did have decent desserts/pastries. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a coffee experience. My wife ordered a cappuccino and got a latte. I ordered a couple macchiatos and have no clue what I got. Basically, we got three lattes. The biggest disappointment was the unwillingness to help and the customer service after i told the barista that this wasn't a macchiato. I came by Eugene's the other night, and saw that the place was pretty busy inside, so I opted for the drive-thru. I recall from years ago, the frat-boys, and fake sophisticates, the pizza-delivery philosophers, the lame band-wannabes on open mic nights, so I felt that I was doing a solid for the planet, by not having to take a second shower for the day. I hadn't been here in a long time, so I was a little disturbed just now, reading multiple reviews about aggressive evangelicism there. This used to be a place you could read in the afternoon, with bookshelves and sofas everywhere, and a slacker/stoner vs. frat boy dynamic at night. Is anything sacred? I never would have guessed that "Gig 'Em Bush", the "W" sheriff's badge & the interstate "W" t-shirts not only signified an emboldening of what was once not only kept private but conscientiously and self-consciously compartmentalized, but also crept into mainstream thought in a university town, as if to suggest that not only evolution & science, but logic itself was a theory or a perspective which has an intelligent-design counterpart/alternative. How the hell did this sort of mindless conformity get hold of such a place of sometimes independent thought and study, just blocks from an institution of higher learning? As to the java & treats: I ordered the mocha cafe, a couple sausage kolaches, and a German chocolate cake iced latte drink. The mocha came unsweetened, and I forgot to ask for sweetener. I added Splenda at home, but the coffee was not really very rich, and was a bit bitter. Maybe I could have ordered a gourmet brew with cocoa added. The kolache was made from doughnut dough, and came in a Daylight Donuts paper bag. The sausage inside was quite tasty, though, and not greasy at all. But the worst was the iced coffee & chocolate drink. I don't think I've ever consumed anything with that concentration of sugar. I may have drank a quarter of it before I could stand no more. I will come into Eugene's some quiet Tuesday afternoon after the lingering Bush economic Chernobyl has burned the confident certitude away from these evangelicals, and I can read there without having to endure their 'mission'. read more

I frequently make day long business trips to College Station and often find myself with a few hours to kill. Sweet Eugene's is my go to coffee house for a relaxed atmosphere, good coffee, and good WiFi. There is abundant seating and space, though this is also a popular spot for students and weekends can be crazy busy. I've ordered several of their crepes and have found them to be okay, but not great. The last crepe I ordered, the turkey bacon and avocado was delicious, until I noticed that the avocado was waaaaay past it's prime, brown and slimy. It didn't make me sick, but I couldn't finish the crepe either. That being said, the breakfast sandwiches are very tasty and the donuts are always fresh. read more

This is THE coffee shop to go to. It looks like it has been taken out of a movie. It's eclectic, trendy, cozy, and filled with hip looking students. I went there a few times in college to meet up with group members, but finding a seat is near impossible! They do have outside seating but it's a pretty small area. The coffee is great and the donuts are good. I've had better, but I've had worse. If you live in College Station, you have to visit this place at least once. read more

The toffee nut latte is delicious! The eclectic mix of furniture and various lounging rooms makes this place perfectly cozy and welcoming. They have a great selection of delicious pastries, crepes, sandwiches, smoothies and shakes on top of the smooth coffee and specialty drinks. I sat on a large couch in the "library" surrounded by various modern pieces of art and a bookshelf that spanned the entire wall. I am so glad I stopped by. read more

Good place to hang out with friends or study. They have a good variety of drinks (without all the nicknames), teas, pastries, crepes, donuts, and sandwiches. The coffee is ok but I come here for the atmosphere. Tables all around and couches in back with very eclectic art on the walls and bright colors everywhere. It's been around a while and is much larger than other coffee shops in CS, which explains why there's not many outlets in an older building. The free wifi is a little poor if you're trying to do heavy internet surfing. It can get pretty crowded daily and may stay open late during finals, although they close about an hour early during the Summer. I wouldn't call it "indie" and I never had problems with staff, it's just not a corporate chain. I haven't seen any musicians (inside) in the years I've been here, although I think they used to perform on a stage years ago. There's a small patio for musicians otherwise. read more

I've given Sweet Eugene's a lot of chances. It has its good moments, but mostly they're largely not very good. Their coffee is only so-so, and it's often awkward to just get some milk in your coffee since they keep it in a fridge behind the counter. Their donuts are ok, but I've had much much better. Their crepes... well, they're disappointing. The savory ones use veggies that never taste fresh and always make me suspicious of food poisoning. The sweet ones I've never tried so I can't comment on them. So the very worst part is the terrible music they play loudly at all times here. It's just top 40 stuff (?) maybe circa 1998. I don't get it. It is truly terrible. Add to this the fact that the clientèle has been pretty rude the last few times I've been... I don't think it's making the cut any longer. I love Sweet Eugene's! It's a fun and funky place to get a good cup of coffee, latte, or slice of pie. It seems to always be busy, which can make it difficult to find a seat. And sometimes the WiFi is spotty or doesn't work on my portable devices. But I still like the vibe. read more

Years ago, this place used to be awesome... Lately? Not so much. They used to serve your drink in huge ceramic mugs. Now? A tiny cardboard cup. Used to have great music. Now? Cannot hear anything over the din of students. I'm not sure if they even still have live music anymore, but I doubt it. Used to be able to grab a couch to chat with your friends. Now? Students leave all their crap (laptop, purse, etc.) everywhere all over the couches in order to "save" their spot for later so that you can't sit there and then they don't appear for a couple of hours...presumably taking up space elsewhere in the store. I've come to notice that the students around here have gotten progressively more rude as each year passes. When I was a student, we had respect for each other. Not so anymore...seems like everyone walks around acting like you owe them something. Eugene's used to be a fun place to go. Anymore, it's just tiresome and the owners don't seem to care. Cashier just stared until the silence was uncomfortable enough for her to ask "what do you want" , we brushed it off instead of walking out when we should have , the iced coffee could have been dirt and water and id believe you , the sausage kolache was like a toothpick in a loaf of bread , really i bid you good luck getting a good meaty and flavored bite , the donuts were hard and could more than likely be thrown in an ultimate frisbee game , and then came the cherry on top , or rather the dark black hair sticking halfway out of the last donut hole in the bag . i regret every decision made from the second i uttered the words "lets try eugenes" read more

I spent a lot of time here in college before I became a coffee snob (which happened when I was living in Houston). Coming back here, it is truly appalling how bad the coffee is. I have found other coffee shops in town, not chains, that have really dang good coffee that is roasted here in B/CS. I am also a little weirded out by the dirty espresso machine. Honestly, I am afraid to even ask for something contains steamed milk as all the dirt on the nozzles would get in my drink. On the flip side, the crepes are pretty decent... I hope the prep areas are cleaner than the espresso machine. Though I noticed every time I have ordered a sandwich the person making it washes their hands first. That's a definite plus. This place is awesome. The complaints below are fairly true for the most part. The coffee is not that great and sometimes there are limited places to sit. I go here all of the darn time and have always been able to find a spot. It does get crowded and loud at times but it comes with being in a college town. Most of the time there's a little amount of people. During these times it's great at Sweet E's. I try to avoid coming to Sweet E's during peak hours. I like studying in 'active' places but it can get fairly loud. This place gets a 5-star rating because their java shakes are great. Some people find them way too sweet but that's right up my alley. And their internet stinking fast! Well it's fast when it's not packed with students and their laptops and tablets. read more

My friend & I got paninis which costed $9. The portions were small and not filling & barley had any flavor. Also the pastry's looked like they were sitting out for hours. If you're from out of town and expect that your fruit smoothies will have, you know, "fruit" in them, this is not the place for you. They make their smoothies from a very syrupy-tasting mix (unfortunately I only found this out after I ordered), and the rest of their food & drink options appear to be equally underwhelming. The veggie panini tasted like it was originally designed by someone who had never tasted a vegetable before (this being Texas, I suppose that's entirely possible), and arrived with an unsolicited side of Sun Chips, which is just ... weird. I didn't really think adults ate chips as a side on a regular basis but maybe that's just me. Perhaps most shocking is that they use styrofoam cups for the self-serve water, which is absolutely disastrous for the environment and not something you see elsewhere in the country. I've given them two stars for the ample seating, but honestly, if you intend to order anything other than a cup of coffee, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I visited this morning and asked for an iced white mocha. I LOVE their coffee and it's wayyy better than Starbucks in my opinion. I forgot to tell the sweet girl in the drive thru to make it with soy as I'm lactose intolerant and I guess it just slipped my mind, but when I asked her if she could kindly switch it out she politely agreed and was sweet about it the entire time!! Of course I gave her a tip after that, the service is incredible. Definitely going here instead of Starbucks from now on!! read more

I want to make a disclaimer before I start: I go to THE University of Texas at Austin!! I will try my best to write an unbiased review I was in CS visiting some friends one weekend and I had breakfast with one of my Aggie friends at Sweet Eugene's. I can see how this is a hot spot for students to go to because its a large coffee shop and it's close to campus (I think). The coffee was decent but the service was kind of slow. I think this place is special for CS but in comparison to coffee shops in Austin this place average. But I am glad I got to experience one of CS's coffee shops and the culture! read more

Every college town should have a place like Sweet Eugene's. It is basically a dive-y coffee shop with lots of space and comfortable little nooks where people can hang out for hours. The food is great (we ordered a GIANT piece of chocolate cake which was divine, and also a wonderful crepe), and the coffee is fine. We were only there for about 20 minutes (We eat cake fast. It's not pretty.), so did not take the time to check out all the fun stuff Sweet Eugene's has to offer. read more

I've only had their iced coffees and shakes and they have always been good. Cons-Can get pretty crowded and loud inside. If you're planning on studying bring your headphones. The tables sometimes stay dirty long after people have left and I've seen the workers just pass by the same empty plate or mug at least 5 times and still not pick it up. Pros- I like the old comfy couches they have and the various degrees of lighting inside. Their cold drinks have been spot on. Their wifi is usually good unless it's really crowded. read more

Cheeky Eugene's is your older brother who drives a beat up old car that has a faint scent of gasoline. You love the grunge, and that you get to hang with your cool older brother, so you stick it out and grow to love that scent. Sure, you could get better coffee in College Station/Bryan, but why?
