What a nice little sweets shop down in this area of Memphis. We were next door eating dinner and noticed the 2 year that couldn't take her eyes off of the windows next door. So when I think about a Candy Store. I think Candyland LOL yes! I loved that game as a kid. I mean who doesn't. Candy equals happiness. At least in my world it does. For a candy/goodies store, Sweet Noshings has a decent selection of candy. Plus, my friend told me that they make their own flavored popcorn, which I thought was pretty cool. They also sell fudge and ice cream. However, although they may have a lot of goodies, Sweet Noshings did not equal happiness and I left not wanting to go back! First off, the customer service is lacking. I have been to Sweet Noshings twice and I expect (especially in the south) to be greeted when I enter a store and we were not. The workers were behind the counter or in the back talking amongst themselves. Mind you both times the store was empty, they were not attending to customers. The first time I figured maybe it was just one of those days but nope it happened twice. Second, although they may have a decent selection of different candies and goods. I feel like this place is kind of pricy and I am not cheap. I understand it is midtown, but $4.50 for a peanut butter cup that wasn't even worth the price. Like really! Candy galore! We stopped in on our mini vacation to bring back some treats for the kids. They had plenty to choose from! I liked that they had such a variety but it was a little pricey. We knew that going in so we weren't surprised. If I remember correctly, the gummy items were $9.95 a pound and the chocolates were around $17.40 a pound. They had a section to order ice cream and also some funky named sodas in the cooler which we grabbed some for the kids. They also had many different types of popcorn to choose from! My only suggestion would be to have baskets for people to put their items in. Even better would be to have baskets that customers could put their plastics bags in that would hold open the bag so the customer could fill it up easier and with more goodies! read more

I am not one who is crazy about candy. In fact, I rarely eat it. So, if that is the case why did I find myself so inclined to step into this cute gem in Overton Square? Well, it could have been all the locally made stuff they had promoting Memphis, or it could have been the bag of flavored popcorn I saw another customer roll out with right as I approached the door. Either way it goes, this place is adorable! A fellow Memphis Tigers grad and her husband opened the joint. She provided me wonderful samples of their various popcorn flavors that they make in house. I tried the salt and vinegar flavor, white cheddar, and other flavors before settling on buying the two together. In here the have a huge variety of candy from some of my old favorites like gummy worms and gummy bears to candy canes to chocolate almonds. They had a little bit of everything. In here they also sell locally made soy candles that smelled amazing and ice cream. I think this would be a special treat for kids to stop in and check it out or for adults with a strong sweet tooth. read more

We visited the Perkins location. The staff were very nice and helpful. The place was wonderfully decorated. Everything was neat and organized . The candy was good as expected. The ice cream was okay . We ended up spending $60 between two half bags of Candy, a brownie Sunday, a milk shake, a cream soda, and a candy fan toy. If you're only going for a few pieces of candy or a half bag, you won't spend any more than $7. read more

This place is so cool! When you walk in there is a section where you can fill your own bag with candy. They have pretty much anything you can think of. You pay by the pound at checkout ( be careful that bag fills up quicker than you think). All of the employees are super helpful and the store is clean. Whenever I visit midtown, I like to walk through Sweet Noshings to look and smell but have seldom bought anything. Today I caved and threw a few different sour candies into the "to go" candy bags. Although every items price per pound is clearly marked, I was a little shocked when my total came to roughly $13 for some candy and a smallish bag of popcorn. Even with their price point, I will say coming in is worth it as there are a number of different candies, sodas, popcorns and other knick knacks that you typically wouldn't come across. If you decide to go for popcorn, it is sold in a $5 bag and comes in a variety of different "flavors" made locally, including dill pickle (yum!) but I recommend the Memphis Mix. Stopped by here this past Thursday scouting places for my aunt that specialize in candies that can be tailored to a specific color theme. Not only do they have different candy, but ice cream and gourmet popcorn as well. I chose chocolate covered s'mores for me, chocolate turtle for my hubby, and a peanut butter cup to share. Let me tell you, this is not your run of the mill I can by this at the store type of candy. I only needed that one piece and I was set. Very rich, mixed with the crunch of the graham cracker and the squishy texture of marshmallow, I loved all of that going on in my mouth. The Popcorn OMG! I can't name all the flavors, but plenty of which to choose. I chose Dill from a past experience so I wanted to try theirs. I was not disappointed. I almost killed myself eating this stuff and I didn't want to share but I did eventually. So if you're looking to quench that sweet tooth or the munchies, this would be a great little nook to visit. Well, I'm going to get fat, really fat, thanks to this discovery. I was like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night! Yes, I realize it is just sugar on a stick (as my boyfriend so aptly pointed out), but it reminds me of my childhood, specifically Calloway Gardens where we vacationed every year and I made my dad buy me rock candy day after day at the little country store. Ah, sweet memories. They have a HUGE selection of candy and I bought $20 of assorted chocolates last night...never done that before...but I liked it...a lot. So much so that this is probably going to happen again. My only complaint is that no one greeted me when I walked in the door. This older guy was just standing there (I'm assuming the owner or manager) and didn't even acknowledge my group. The girl at the cashier was nice, but didn't engage until we were checking out. I dunno, manners just made all the difference between this being a 4 or 5 star experience. There are candy jars throughout the store, with scoopers to retrieve the goodies inside. Popcorn, homemade ice cream & gelato are also apart of the tasty treats you can munch on! Dude... DUDE... Okay, so we were meandering around Overton Square on a scathing hot day and happened to walk by Sweet Noshings. They had a chalkboard sign on the sidewalk mentioning milkshakes. Sign. Me. Up. The smell walking in the door is absolutely dangerous. Not the scent of candy, although they had jars upon jars of anything you could think of. Tempting, but I was here for a milkshake. We made our way toward the back end of the shop where we found that they make their popcorn fresh and it smells mouthwatering delicious. They had about 15-20 flavors available ranging from spicy white cheddar to salted caramel and everything in between.... Oh. Right. Milkshake. Homemade fudge? Gaaaaaaahhhhhh. That's the wonderful smell. Popcorn and fudge. It was too hot out for fudge, so just the milkshake. The milkshakes can be made of one or two flavors of their house-made ice creams. I was indecisive, so Hubby chose for me. Vanilla Bourbon and Jack Daniels Honey were the ice creams of choice, even the man scooping commented, "these flavors make a great shake." Great shake, indeed! This was easily the BEST milkshake I have ever had. Ever. The creamy vanilla and honey were mild and not too sweet, the hint of liquor flavors was just right. This place is tucked away in Overton Square and features sweet treats and flavored popcorn. In addition to that they serve coffees and sell the Ugly Mug coffee products (coffee, hot chocolate, etc). They actually have some of the best prices on Ugly Mug products in the area! Sweet Noshings is well-kept and clean. There are sweet treats to meet everyones appetite. Perhaps my two favorite parts of the visit were 1) how wonderfully friendly the staff was 2) sampling the popcorn. Usually when I see flavored popcorn places it's the typical flavors (boring!). Sweet Noshings features flavors such as bacon, bbq, and dill! Anything bacon flavored that doesn't make you feel gross afterward gets 5 stars in my book! I've been in here at least five times in the past month and a half, each time (except for today) spending $15 - $30. I love the product. I love the space. Generally the ladies who work there are very friendly. I swung by right as they closed on Tuesday (my bad, no big deal) and then visited yesterday looking for some of that heavenly cocoa popcorn, which they did not have. The man (owner?) who works there helped me yesterday, and he said they thought they'd have it today. I was told back in February by one of the female associates that I could check their FB page for updated flavors (I even tipped that here on Yelp!), so today I checked on FB but didn't see the flavors listed. I called the number listed on FB (the one on yelp is out of service), but got no answer. It sounded like someone's personal cell phone, so I didn't leave a message, opting instead to drop in. When I got to the counter, they did not have cocoa popcorn. Again, no big deal -- I ordered and paid for another flavor as a gift for a friend. I asked the man who'd helped me yesterday if there was a way to find out before driving over to the store about the flavors on offer each day. He said no, there was no way for them to do that, and that a business should not have to do that. With the number of flavors they offer, they don't make any of them all the time and can't keep their customers updated -- customers will show up, try something new, and like it. He said that nobody ever told me to look on FB for the flavors (why would I make that up?), and that they will not answer their (cell) phone when they have customers. I said that some of these practices seem worrisome for a new business, and he said that his business is doing very well and he would be happy if it (or I? I was unclear) went away tomorrow. Many other variety dessert shops in town do not make all of their products every day, but they all maintain current websites and/or social media so that you don't drive across town only to find out they're out of your favorite. But it's not about the fact that I disagree with the decision not to publish a current menu -- it's about the fact that the man seemed very defensive and rude about a reasonable question that a repeat customer of his business asked. I left his store having paid money to his business and receiving an earful, and I definitely don't have any desire to return for more of that. Cute place, with tons of popcorn, candy and ice cream. I have enjoyed a few of the flavors of popcorn they carry and the ice cream is fine. I just wished they actually made there stuff or could tell me where they get it. I have visited a number of times and I know that once I asked about the fudge and the girl told me they don't have time to make their own fudge and that they get it out of Mid TN. Well being from middle TN area I asked where do they get it, thinking that I may know it, but she couldn't tell me. The same happened with some other item like popcorn or ice cream. I do believe they locally source the gelato that they now carry. I understand every place cannot be a craft or artisan establishment, but at least know where your product comes from. read more

Great candy store. This place has a center aisle full of bowls where you scoop your own, and pay by weight. Lots of unusual flavors. Does anyone else remember Astro Pops, the lance-shaped, rainbow-colored sucker that was always at the movie concession stand? I loved those when I was a kid and haven't seen them since...2002? In 2012 I heard the Astro Pop was making a comeback. Whenever I went to Walgreens or Wal-Mart or Costco, or went out of town, I'd search high and low for the elusive Astro Pop. This past weekend, my search finally bore fruit. My wife made the unintentional-but-very-obvious comment, "You're like a kid in a candy store!" They also have Dinosaur Eggs, my other favorite candy ever. So I kind of have to give Sweet Noshings five stars for this fact, alone. But it speaks to the point that a really great candy shop is more time machine than store, taking you back to that treat you haven't had since you were a kid. And this place has a lot of treats, both old and new. The staff is really friendly, and the owners have done a good job of adding on to the original concept, now offering various ice creams and coffees, as well as locally-made candles. If you're in the mood for anything sweet, this is both the best and worst place in town to go visit. read more

Let me start by saying that the owner, Leene, is one of the nicest people in Memphis. Every time we could in she always says hello, asks how we're doing and tells us about any new items they have in stock. Their selection of candy is awesome. Want a pound of only blue M&Ms, beer flavored jelly beans or chocolate covered pretzels? They have you covered. I really don't think there is a candy item that they don't have. This is by far my kids' favorite part and my wife is addicted to their mini gummy bears, she swears they taste better then the regular sized ones. My big draw is their flavored popcorn. They are constantly trying out new flavors and are happy to give you a sample of anyone of their custom creations. I usually go with the taco, jalapeno cheddar or garlic. They also have a selection of sweeter options if that is more you thing. In addition to all of these things, they serve great coffee, fudge and have a new ice cream bar. read more

Holy candy, Batman. Sweet Noshing is an adorable little shop, with jar after jar of candy, bins of popcorn, chocolate, jelly beans, local coffee, hot and cold drinks, ice cream (that you can get in a cookie cone!) and a couple of bars to sit and chat/work at. I would give it 5 stars. It's reasonably priced (yeah, you spend a ton of money every time but it's good candy and local business and all that), and in an amazing location. But, as other Yelpers have noted, the employees are just kind of meh. Not outright rude, but they sort of ignore you. For an Overton Square small business, I'd like a little friendlier people. I am addicted to their popcorn. Vanilla + sea salt caramel was just perfect. Today, they didn't have vanilla, but now they have toffee flavor. I think I can adjust to this flavor.
