The staff is extremely friendly and check on you regularly so that's the saving grace of this place. It's a nice diner vibe overall but the place could use a little more cleanliness especially in the restroom. My family of 5 dined here a few days ago. We were shocked that when we got our bill there was an automatic 20% gratuity added. Maybe it's a Georgia thing...but typically when dining out we have encountered parties of 6+ at certain restaurants have an automatic gratuity. It's usually listed on the menu, or on their website, or on the check.... This restaurant had neither. And when asked about the automatic tip they gave us a vague answer. My hubby is a big tipper (to my annoyance) so it kinda felt like they added the tip because they assumed we weren't going to tip. Oh well, their loss. Their Ribs, Burgers and food is really awesome. Honestly, I've never had a bad item off their menu. Always fresh, flavor and hot. Unfortunately, someone forgot to remind them that they're only a diner. And while their food is consistently good, their prices have gotten astronomically high. It's like there's been a small creep in prices over time like slightly more expensive Everytime you go. And you really don't notice if you go a couple times a month. But if it's been awhile and you go back all of a sudden it's sticker shock. I was really thinking about trying some of the desserts and cheesecake, but I just can't justify paying the price of an entire gourmet cheesecake from a specialized bakery for one slice at a diner. I love trying little cafes and diners. We were visiting Stone Mountain and looking for a nice place for a late lunch. I was a little leery bc some of the reviews aren't great. IMHO - they are crazy. Ambience - it's a super cute little diner. They pipe oldies in the background. Plenty of seating - mix of booths and table/chairs combo. There's also a bar on one side. Walking in - you can't but drool over the pasties in the display. OMG - they really look amazing! Service - out service was terrific. She was helpful and patient with our questions too. Food - there were lots of complaints in the comments over price and I think they're way off. This isn't fast food; it's a sit-down diner with a really decent menu. We had 3 people dining and ordered a giant piece of cake. The total tab was $55. That's really not unreasonable. Visited on a Saturday after running a few errands in the area. We were seated immediately and our server came and took our drink orders, water. We continued to review and asked her a couple of questions that she answered with ease. With her assistance I ordered the vegetable panini and my husband ordered the Greek plate. We continued to talk amongst ourselves while we waited for our food. Food came out and everything looked good. Food was hot and seasoned well, we were satisfied with our orders. I wish I could remember our server's name but all I know is she was tall and had an accent. She handled herself and her tables very well. Entrance/parking: wrap around parking at the building. On the weekends it is crowded. Staff do a great job trying to seat each party as long as everyone is there. Food/ambiance: food comes out quickly. This diner has a small bar. Of course I was able to get a mimosa or two. Ordered hell chicken tacos. They're small, but full. I'm not a huge fan of their house potato. But I'm not a huge fan of potatoes. I didn't try their pies or cakes, but Oh my gosh! They look decadent. I will be back to try. I had dinner at the restaurant tonight and unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. I ordered a veggie omelette with home fries. The waitress appeared unfamiliar with basic service procedures. She brought coffee that tasted old and never offered a refill. I eventually had to ask why I had not been offered one. The food quality was also poor. The home fries looked and tasted very old, as if they had been sitting for days. The omelette itself was watery, falling apart, and poorly prepared. Overall, it looked like it had been made by someone with very little kitchen experience. I have been coming to this restaurant since I moved to the Atlanta area in 2005, so this is especially disappointing to see. Over the years, the food quality has been inconsistent -- sometimes very good and other times very poor. However, during my last several visits, the quality has noticeably declined. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving both food quality and customer service. read more

Upon entering the restaurant there is a sign that has you to wait to be seated. They have a large display of delicious looking cakes. They were very tall and inviting. I wanted to order cake instead of a meal because they looked so good. Also in the front aside from the chairs and tables at the counter there were more desserts. I did not try any but they all looked very good. At the time that we arrived there were not many customers inside. The TVS were on so we got to watch a little bit of that. Not sure what we were watching but the screens were large.I did not use the bathroom but the inside, the floors and the tables appeared to be cleaned. The silverware that was wrapped in a napkin was also clean. I did not see any water stains which is usually at most of the restaurants. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. We did not have to call for her much because she continually made her rounds to check on us and others while we ate. The food was just ok. To be more specific it was very bland. I ordered the salmon, shrimp pasta and the Chicken Marsala.Both meals looked great. The presentation was fabulous but the flavor was lacking. I was glad they had salt and pepper at the table because it was HEAVILY used. I was hoping the meals would have more flavor but I was disappointed. The meal portions were a good size but the flavor made you wish it was less. I did bring my leftovers home not sure if they will be eaten though. This was my first time coming here and I have seen the restaurant on a number of occasions. The best thing we had was the appetizers. It was the cheese sticks. They were cooked correctly. They were good and passed the pull test. Which is when you take a bite and the cheese is still connected even after you pull it, so we know it was fresh and hot. We are in town on vacation and this place was recommended by our hotel staff. It did not disappoint. Food was great, service too. Lela or maybe Lila (I think that was her name, an extremely lovely Greek heritage woman). The diner is clean as can be. Food was very good and good size portions. Arrived timely. Our ice tea glasses never got empty before they were topped off. That always a rarity for me. Seldom does any restaurant keep my glass full, but it was here. Off the hook service with a smile. Hubby had ribs and wings, I had their special Steak stir fry. We were so full we couldn't eat it all, but we did order slices of their cakes to bring back to the hotel for later. We used to dine at Metro Cafe pretty regularly, but we moved from Snellville and now the trip is a little bit of a trek. We had the day off and thought let's go get some fried catfish. I realized when I was checking in on Yelp that we have never reviewed them. {How did that happen??} So here it goes ... Staff are polite. We rarely get the same server but the managers are consistent every time we come back. In most cases, we are greeted at least once by the managers - either as we are being seated or during the meal. Food is quite tasty. I'll put this disclaimer here, though, we don't venture outside of a couple of entrees that we have found to be very good because we have not found better anywhere else so we stick with them. They really are worth it! #1 option is the Country Fried Catfish. The batter is a mix of cornmeal and flour and is so well seasoned!! The fish is always always always moist - we have never had over fried catfish at Metro. They really have this perfected. You get two big filets and we often share the entree and order extra sides. We prefer the white gravy on the mash potatoes (it comes with brown). #2 Chicken fried tenders - these are really good when they are not over fried. I have gotten them a couple times when they were a bit dry, but with some extra white gravy they are still good. The house/side salad is always super fresh - it has crisp lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes wedges, and red onions. We have never had limp or wilted lettuce here! They make their dressings homemade and we particularly like the thousand island. Cleanliness is why I subtracted a star. The dining room is clean and I've never received a dirty plate, cup, or silverware (which is not common ... something always slips through the cracks. But the restroom is consistently in disarray and not a pleasant experience. read more

I came here based on a family recommendation, and I'm glad I did! The experience didn't disappoint. The diner is very spacious, wasn't too busy, and was clean. We were greeted quickly, and there was ample parking, which is always a plus. We ordered two orders of chicken and waffles and two steak quesadillas. The chicken was good--well-seasoned with a slight crisp, which was impressive since I took it to go. It was a bit too greasy for my taste, but the waffle more than made up for it--absolutely delicious, with huge portions. The steak quesadilla was good; I've had better, but it wasn't bad at all. This place really changed my life LOL I was not expecting Metro Cafe Diner to be this good! I dined there on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch and it was a great experience. It was busy but that didn't prevent the service from being quick and efficient. I ordered the onion rings (served with a chipotle ranch - amazing) as an appetizer and lasagna for my meal. Both were delicious! Everything was so fresh. Those that dined with me ordered the chicken wings, catfish, and of course, cheesecake! Everyone was extremely pleased with their food. I am not from the area and live in Los Angeles and came here for a business trip. I was recommended this restaurant by the hotel I was staying in. My server Naji was amazing. Naji was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended some dishes. He was very attentive and constantly checked on me if I needed anything. I went with the calamari and the loaded baked potato. The baked potato came with crispy bacon, butter, and sour cream. It was so good and filling. They definitely make their food from scratch and it taste homemade. I love sweet tea and it was fresh.
