Excellent food. The best BBQ in Morgantown by a wide margin. The closest thing to Carolina or Memphis ribs east of Nashville.

A must have in the Morgantown area! The BBQ is phenomenal! Perfectly smoked and seasoned! Not only is the food rich and full of that southern flavor, the environment is warm as well. This is a frequent stop for my family and every time the owner recognizes us and asks how we have been. All the seating is outdoor so if it's a beautiful sunny day, it is perfect for sitting outside, but it is also easy to just pick and take home. Casual, walk-up window service on the side of the road. My order was taken right away and the food came out quickly. The overall flavors were good. I did not really care for the creamy side of spicy sauce I got. The greens were good, but had some cold some hot within the little container. I wanted to give a local place my business instead of going to another chain restaurant and was excited to try this place out. I put in an order and received confirmation email. When I went to pick it up at the time given, they were shut down and I didn't get any food. It was an extremely awkward encounter with the worker who asked me to stay and then he would come back and make me some food (they were out) once he drove all the way across town in rush hour traffic. Absolutely the Best BBQ I've tasted yet in West Virginia, it's a glorified rib shack but has real deal good Ol Southern Cooking. One of the guys was just setting up and cooking when I showed up and my first choice the brisket wasn't ready yet but whatever magic he worked back there did just fine and I got a pile of BBQ Chicken and the sides and corn bread were off the hook. Never Again! Went last week, bought 2 Pulled Pork Sandwiches - one was fine the other was fat all the way through (neither of us could eat it). Tonight decided to give them another chance; ordered 1/2 Rack of Baby Back Ribs at $15.00, got home and they were Spare Ribs, very red (under cooked), tough, grizzly, fatty - Could not eat!!! Simply a very cheap cut of ribs with no BBQ flavor. Not even going to go into how bad the Rib Sandwich was - like I said, Never Again!!! Bought a lb. Of the worst brisket I've ever had. All fat, no flavor, and swimming in a dreadful barbecue sauce. Bought 2 small sides...collard greens ($6)which were really good. The Cole slaw, also $6, was all Cole slaw juice. I ordered Cole slaw, not Cole slaw soup. Paid $40 for mostly inedible slop. At least my dog liked the brisket. Run from this sham operation. Fourth time we've had food from here. First 3 times everything was good. Would have given it 4 or 5 stars. This time I called ahead, and got there when they told me it would be ready but not only was it not ready, hadn't even started, they had written the order down wrong. When I got back to the house the smoked italian sausages in rolls with peppers and onions we ordered had BBQ sause poured all over them. They've never done that before and completely disappointed. Also ordered a full rack of baby back ribs. Charcoal with BBQ sause poured on it more like it. I will give them one more shot but would not recommend at this time. read more

It smells great from the road so thought we'd stop today but we were extremely disappointed. The briquette was more fat than actual meat. The pulled pork sandwich was alright but dry. The service when we walked up seemed alright but they weren't really talkative which I get cause they are working outside but still hungry after spending $35 two people shouldn't be hungry still. We were looking for some BBQ in the area and found Sweet Southern Smoke. It has a good traditional BBQ menu. The only thing lacking was some deserts. I was a bit worried showing up late on a Sunday and getting good quality BBQ. But they didn't disappoint. The ribs were well done and cooked perfectly. The BBQ sauce was excellent. The chicken and brisket were well done as well and full of flavor. All of the sides complemented the meats very well. The Mac and cheese and baked beans were flavorful and well done. My wife has a unique hot pepper allergy that is very severe and causes anaphylactic shock. She ordered the wings with the mild sauce. When the wings were served we thought the sauce might have some spice to them. One of the kind workers took the wings back and said they would make some new ones. The chef made up a whole new sauce on the fly for the wings. The wings were well smoked and had a great flavor. The sauce he made up was wonderful. It should be added to the menu. All of the workers were very friendly, helpful and very accommodating. You have two choices for seating; under a tent in the parking lot or under cover near the smoker. It's a BBQ place not a fancy sit-down restaurant so either place is fine to eat. So if you are looking for good quality BBQ this is the spot. read more

Wow! Delicious BBQ! We happened upon Sweet Southern Smoke on a cross-country motorcycle ride just one minute off I68, at exit 4 across from the CVS Pharmacy. Tim, the owner,was so pleasant and gave us generous portions and an abundance of hospitality. I enjoyed the brisket and my friend had the pulled pork. We both kept raving about it as we ate. We also enjoyed perfectly done sweet potato fries and some baked beans. I wish this stop was in my back yard!!! read more

This was the absolute worst I've ever had in BBQ. We bought $12 worth of french fries and had to throw them all away because they were soaked in grease and not even hot. I warmed them up in our air fryer at home but the grease that came out of them was disgusting. It's like they threw them in cold grease. The pork you couldn't even chew and the beef had so much black stuff on it the kids wouldn't eat it. We will not be back. $62 dollars down the drain! read more

I ordered "moist" (from the point, or the fatty end), 1/2 rack of spare ribs, with sauce on the side and Mac & cheese. After a long wait, approximately 15-20 minutes, I got my to go order. First of all, I did not get any napkins, sauce that I had asked for on the side or utensils to eat the Mac & cheese. BBQ is a finger food, so it wasn't a problem for the meats. The brisket was good; I did get the point, the bark was very tasty and smoky, with good pepper. The Mac was average. The ribs were chewy, dry and I didn't get any taste of smoke. Definetly some of the least tasty ribs I have ever had. They need to consider adding additional staff on Fridays, as the order taker was continually running back to the kitchen to straighten out what was being given to the customers. Also, it would be nice if they turned the music in the area with the smoker and the tables down a bit. Finally, just so you know this was not my first rodeo, I am a Master competition BBQ judge, so I've had a fair bit of BBQ over the years. I was not judging against competition standards, just how good BBQ should taste. I would go back one more time to try again, since everyone can have an off night. read more
