BEST DONUTS IN JACKSONVILLE. That's all you need to know. No weird, trendy ingredients just basic and delicious donut stuff. They have other goodies, too, I just always get donuts. The dough is super delicious and doughy. Not too sweet and just the right texture. They are thick but not difficult to eat. My favorites are chocolate iced and strawberry. They also have pretty good coffee or you can get tea. There is limited seating-maybe around 10-15 spots I'd say, including some outside seating. And although some people don't care about being gluten free or vegan, it is definitely worth the experience. I love cinnamon rolls and donuts so when I came, I ordered one of each. They were very good and really satisfied my sweet tooth. Although I took mine to go, it's a "grab a coffee and stay a while" type of place. I'll be honest, I have a monstrous sweet tooth and could eat cupcakes until they have to crane me out of the house and onto a truck, and although some of my friends are huge advocates of all that is vegan, gluten-free and an overall healthier choice in life, if something tastes grim it's not passing my gums more than once regardless of how good it is for me. Having stalked the pants off of Sweet Theory Baking Company via Instagram and tormented myself with pictures of their goodies, on the way back from a trip to the Super Target The Hublet detoured to STBC and we visited their store. Fairly unprepossessing on the outside, walking inside I was immediately taken with the warm, artsy, cute décor. A hipster couple were ahead of us in the queue, and we were shortly joined by a motherly looking lady and a geeky looking gent, therefore I had ample time to eyeball the cases of goodies. Although Mr. Skinny Pants seemed set on asking about the ingredients in every individual item ("Is this vegan?" "Is this white flour free?" "Was this cupcake baked in an ethically sourced, cruelty-free oven?" "Do you think Zooey Deschanel would approve of my choices?") I had nothing but joy in my heart as every delay gave me more time to make my decisions. Despite the GF and Free From appeal, and obviously high hipster foot traffic due to the location, there's nothing arrogant or pretentious about STBC. The staff were absolutely lovely: patient and gentle, helpfully guiding me through my inaugural visit with suggestions on their personal and customer favourites, and we eventually opted for a mixed box containing: 1x GF Sea Salt Ganache brownie 1x slice of GF Pineapple Glazed Carrot cake 1x Chocolate & Sunbutter topped cupcake 1x Caramel & Sea Salt chocolate brownie bite We took the box home, and the whole drive I was fighting the urge to tear open the packaging with my teeth and devour the contents. Each item we cut in half and tried was absolutely amazing: the slice of carrot cake was one of the best I've ever had, moist and chewy to the end; the caramel and sea salt bite was a teeny, tiny, perfectly proportioned nibble of joy; the sunbutter topped cupcake was a little fluffy bite of heaven and the ganache brownie was wonderful, however after sharing 3 other items the ganache topping was a little too rich for us. Love this store, love the options, and love love love the staff. The varied customers are a testament to the quality and appeal of their baked goodies and if only they offered a delivery service I would be ordering boxes of everything for our Monday morning coffee & cake meeting at work. This place is adorable. Both my daughter and I loved the interior and had fun identifying the vintage/antique knicknacks and photos. The ladies who waited on us were pleasant and helpful. We both had 12 oz Americanos, with almond milk, and they were delicious. (I was happy to hear that stevia is one of the sweeteners offered.) We chose a cinnamon roll to split for our treat. After meaning to stop in here for weeks, I was driving past today and finally did. This quaint, little shop is an excellent addition to the Park & King district and no other eatery can compare. Most shops in this area are very eclectic or have a rather vintage feel, and Sweet Theory is one of those. This is a vegan bakery, so that means many of the goodies are gluten free, nut free, amongst other factors. The staff is completely mindful about any and all allergies. For me, it's just mind blowing that of all the delectable goodies, none are made with typical baking ingredients like eggs, milk, or butter. Today, I had the Cookie Cookie cupcake which is basically chocolate chip cupcake mix with some kind of chocolate chip frosting. The frosting and the cupcake, itself, could very well stand alone. Each was moist and tasty, and the frosting was very light almost like whipped cream. Together, they were even better. Price wise, Sweet Theory will be a bit higher than your typical local bakery. My cupcake was $3.25 on the sign, but ended up around $4 with tax. However, the quality of these baked goods makes them well worth the price. read more

After months of intense urges to go, I finally made it to this sweet place. Upon arrival, I discovered that the line was out the door. It stayed this way for the entire time I was there. The whole store is quite small, I would only recommend sitting down to eat if you must. You're not likely to find a place to sit. I ended up getting an insane amount of sweets because I just couldn't decide. The donuts had a texture that I don't think I've ever tasted before. They were brioche-y but very filling. The coffee cake was good, a little dry for my taste. The legendary cinnamon roll was exactly that. A few seconds in the microwave really made this one perfect. I now understand why the line was out the door. Although I am fortunate enough to not have any gluten/soy/etc allergies, there are many that do. It's a HUGE bonus that they are conscious of these allergies. And it's all organic, double win! read more

In my humble opinion, this place far transcends being a bakery and provides a valuable service to the Riverside community- vegan donuts?? For $2.50?? Just take ALL my money, please. Anyways, I've been here numerous times since moving to Riverside, as it's just down the street from me, but I wouldn't mind traveling farther if I had to. The donuts are large and very filling, and while Homer is one of my favorite flavors (a sprinkled cotton candy/strawberry, I think) I've always made it a point to try something new ($10 card minimum, y'all), and be it a raspberry loaf or a matcha donut, I've never been disappointed, and it's never tasted any different from a non-vegan baked good. Their biscuit sandwiches are also delicious. I do feel that their cupcakes are a little overpriced, and I'm not a huge fan of their frosting sometimes, but this is a minor complaint. Expect a slight line here, nothing egregious, but the place is small- Ive never felt an urge to eat here so I'd recommend taking your goodies out. Some of the staff members are very friendly and will have a conversation with you, but I've experienced one who was terse and a little impatient. It's so rare for me to be able to walk into a place like this and pick ANYTHING I want, as-is, and not have to worry about allergens. I'm a big donut gal, so I always get one or two (or three or four) flavors when I stop in. My favorite this past time was the banana French toast. The portions are huge (see photo for size comparison) and the presentation makes for a great Instagram shot. They don't only have sweets: they have biscuits and coffee and a few other things here and there. We ordered cinnamon rolls, a maple bacon donut, a mango margarita donut, a brownie bite with salted caramel, zucchini chocolate bread gluten free and lemon poppy seed loaf. These pastries are huge. You can easily split them in half and share, which I would suggest. The mango margarita donut was delicious and everything was warm! I highly recommend this place and will go back again and again. So this review is almost a year late! I've gone in and tried Sweet Theory a few times before we decided to have them make one of our wedding cakes. When I say the cake was so good! Girl.. First off, no one at the wedding knew it was dairy, gluten, soy free. Etc. Even my husband when we were tasting the cupcakes to decide which ones to choose, had no idea.
