Our friends and I were in downtown Frederick on a hot Sunday when I came across this place. We could not help but check it out. The store itself is a little small and cramped. There were only two tables to sit down at a few chairs. I would recommend taking it outside and eating it on the steps or wherever you find comfortable. We ultimately decided to try the honey lavender ice cream, and the Cap'n Crunch cereal ice cream. The honey lavender was one of their best sellers so we had to try it! The honey lavender ice cream had pretty strong notes of lavender, but I couldn't really taste a honey. I appreciated that the ice cream is pure, but I would have liked to have a little stronger honey taste to it. The Captain crunch ice cream was a little more underwhelming. It was basically vanilla ice cream with soggy pieces of Cap'n Crunch berry cereal inside. I was really hoping for more of that Captain crunch cereal flavor (kind of like the milk you get after eating the cereal) so that was a bit of a letdown. Overall, this is not the best ice cream I've ever had, but it is acceptable. It is not the creamiest ice cream in the world nor is it the worst. If you're looking for a quick bite of ice cream, you can come here to check it out, but just adjust your expectations. read more

A small group of us decided to check out the boats on the creek. It was pretty cold, so I stopped into Sweeties to grab some coffee. They had a lot of cute toys and stuffed animals for kids, and treats as well. They had a few ice cream options, which is what I assume is what they are most known for. They were pretty busy and had about 4 staff working. At first things seemed to be running smoothly, but then it started to slow down a lot, while the line was getting longer. I had ordered a vanilla latte for my daughter and myself. Mine wasn't bad, but my daughter's tasted like regular coffee, not espresso and barely any vanilla. I did ask for 2 more pumps, which they did. Then, it appeared that their coffee machine stopped working. My friend was also waiting on her hot chocolate for several minutes, and was then told that the machine was down. Overall, wasn't a great experience, but I understand things happen. Maybe I'll give them another shot during warmer months. read more

Stopped here while down on the river looking at the lit up boats. We had dinner nearby and were in need of dessert - so this happened to be conveniently right there. Wasn't busy - and with only one person working - it was a good thing. I will say the staff - younger person with red hair? was really knowledgeable and approachable and gave information and explained different items we had questions with. Really nice - appreciated it. I ordered the cookie sundae - asked for the cookie hot and added derby ice cream on top. I liked the ice cream itself - I liked the service - but the cookie was rock hard. Part of a sundae with a cookie needs to be warm and breakable without needing a jackhammer. Would get something else next time but would return. read more

New to the area and I love ice cream so I tried out sweeties, me and my boyfriend fell in love and it became our goto sweets spot. After a few times we started noticing the lack of keeping to store hours. I would come on days and times that the downtown area was booming with foot traffic and even during a Saturday afternoon when they had an event in front of the shop, but the shop remained closed even when online it said it was open. We called to understand the reason and each time workers would say reasons that were opposite of what other workers had said. It's a great ice cream shop I'd love to recommend it but now I find myself walking to the other side of the creek for ice cream that I know will be open and available. read more

Terrible customer service, terrible taste, terrible cost. Jean/Gene was the worst part of my day. He was hooting and hollering at these visually young looking employees for breathing on this earth! Came here because the creamery was closed. Saw the sign advertising homemade ice cream and though I would give it a try. Always up for helping a local business. However, they could help themselves by producing some decent ice cream. My son and I purchased two small cones of ice cream. I expected the $11.50 for two small scoops sticker shock. That is just the price of things now. But, what I didn't expect was the complete lack of flavor and grainy texture of the "homemade" ice cream. The butter pecan had exactly 2 pecans in it. The ice cream itself was simply flavorless. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it after spending that kind of money. My son got the pear/honey. The pear fruit flavor strong but on the side tasting artificial. Overall, I can see why there was no one here on a sunny August afternoon. The prices are in range for downtown Frederick, but I wouldn't have finished it if I paid $2, I just would have resented the waste slightly less. Amazing location right on the river path. But more importantly, awesome ice cream. I prefer coming here more than Frederick Fudge. My biggest complaint may have to be that the staff seems to not be able to handle rush pressure on busy nights, and several times service got really slow, not being able to keep up. But I'm here for the ice cream, and they excel in that. Both your generic flavors and combinations, all are good. And the place doubles as a confectionery, so you can get all sorts of candy and chocolates as well, although none of it I'd call artesian. My rating, 4/5 read more

Not so sweet. We usually hit The Pop Shop for ice cream but thought we would give this shop on Carroll Creek a try. Disappointing! The ice cream, which claims to be made in house is mediocre at best. Not creamy, ice crystals, not exceptional flavor wise. In addition to being so so ice cream a small in a regular sugar cone was over $4. This small was more of a kiddy cone size which would have been ok if it were less than $2 but at twice that it was a total RIP off. We will be walking up Market to our regular shop from now on. read more

Not the place to come if you have dietary restrictions. At first, I was excited to see pumpkin on the menu and asked if it contained any crust or gluten, as I have Celiac. The clerk asked his "manager in the back," and returned to say, "he doesn't know. He just uses the mix." Ha! Wow! If the company is just using a mix (or even if they are making an actual homemade product), it would be incredibly easy to label top allergens, save copies of the ingredients, or anything to not make a customer feel like the a-hole for wanting to enjoy their product. I've been going through the "is it gluten free" routine every single time I eat outside of my house for 10 years, and this response is in my top 3 for apathy and ridiculousness. This place is great! I thought the prices were a little high when I walked in, but the portion size and quality of the product more than made up for it. There is also a huge selection of candy as well as ice cream and for the candy there are a lot of buy one get one sales going on all the time. It was great to see that the shop sells a few South Mountain Creamery flavors and the old school Gifford's flavors are great too! The service is great too, the kids really work as a team there and they seem to have fun doing it. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area and I'm happy to see a quality sweets shop back on Carroll Creek! read more

I took one bite of my "cookies and Creme" and threw it away. This is the worst ice cream I ever had. I watched people go in and out all day while I was eating next door, and thought it must be really good. I couldn't have been more wrong. A ragged man, who can only assume was homeless, asked for the rest of my ice cream before I threw it away. He asked where it was from and when I told him shrieked "eeek" and shuffled away as quick as his duct-taped shoes could take him. If you think this was the best ice cream,.... you need to get out and try somewhere else, anywhere else. Hell, just make it yourself, without prior experience and it will still come out better. This place has made me scared of ice cream and I've never had any ever since that day in the off chance, no, near impossible chance that it's as bad as the ice cream here. I came to Sweeties today during the art festival and everything was fantastic. The people were kind and very personable. Though there were a lot of people in there at the time, they were quite efficient and made sure everyone was helped relatively quickly. It is right on the creek so I sat outside to enjoy my ice cream; it is a very nice location. The inside of the shop was also very nice; it was clean and warm as opposed to some ice cream shops. I had never had Sweeties ice cream. I went there for dessert after a meal down town Frederick and eww'd and ahhh'd over my Gram Slam ice cream in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. I asked for two scoops but when I saw the FIRST one go inside the cone I quickly changed it to a single scoop! It was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Each bite captured a mixture of delicious flavors from caramel, to graham crackers and chocolate, to little bits of marshmellows....I was in heaven! I have never tasted ice cream so creamy delicious!
