I've been wanting to try this place for ages, but it always seemed packed. Well, today (Memorial Day) was no different. I tried to swing by around ten minutes to noon, but it was a disaster. There were heaps of people waiting outside, and it didn't look promising. I went to the hostess stand and asked the guy if I could get a table for one, and he said, "Oh, you can sit at the bar; it's open seating. There's one open seat right there!" So, I walked through and was approached by another worker who asked me what I was doing. I told her the guy said I could sit at the bar, and there was an open seat, even though I never saw one. I did see open seats outside at the bar, though. The bar has two sides, one outside and one inside. It seemed alright; it wasn't too hot or humid, so I went. There were dirty dishes all over the place, and I sat down. Another worker asked me, "Are these dishes yours?" Which seemed a bit strange because the guy works the bar and wouldn't he have known the person sitting there before me left them? Anyway, I said no, and he cleared them. I then waited about 5 minutes before another worker skillfully wiped the bar of debris and then got three menus and three sets of silverware (two more guys sat down next to me) and asked me if I wanted water. I said, "Yes, please." She went off, and then shortly after, I saw the same guy come with a menu and a set of silverware and a water. Thumbs up for the water but thumb down for the slowness. I saw the menu and was torn between pancakes and biscuits. I didn't really want anything heavy, so I got the biscuits and gravy but added an egg. I also got a coffee. The wait time for the food was super quick, and the food was really good. The biscuits are small, and they're okay. The egg was good, but it's kinda hard to mess up an egg. I saw the food the people sitting next to me got, and it looked amazing! Pancakes, etc. Overall, the service was pretty bad, but the food was good. I saw no sense of urgency in the workers when they were obviously swamped. I might come when it's not so busy next time. Side note, maybe I'm showing my age, but the price of regular drip coffee was a bit steep. ($4). read more

This place was awesome overall. It was pretty crowded, but they moved fast and kept things flowing. If you like attentive service with waitresses checking on you often, I'd recommend sitting at a table instead of the bar since the bartenders stay pretty busy. Even with that, we still had a good experience. There was a little mix-up with our food a few people who ordered after us got their meals first, and the table next to us accidentally received our order, so we ended up waiting a bit longer. It was definitely frustrating at the moment, but once our food came out, it made up for it. We had the shrimp and grits along with the steak, eggs, and hashbrowns, and everything was delicious. The sweet cream cold brew was really good, and even though the orange juice was a little small, it still tasted fresh. The atmosphere was nice, and I also liked that they had outdoor seating. I also would put the raspberry jam on ANYTHING and eat it. The service was hit and miss. Food to table was on point but the drinks and interaction with out server was lackluster. The restaurant was easy to find and there was lots of available parking. It's an open air concept restaurant so it's really loud. There's tons of seating inside and out. They seated us on a bench table and there wasn't a cushion or anything. Sorry I don't like sitting on painted wood planks. I was disappointed that they didn't have a gluten free menu. Love this cute little gem! Stopped here before we hopped back in the road to STL and we were definitely impressed! It gives bougie cafe vibes but very welcoming! Its small inside and they had a wait when we arrived so we I need to sit at the bar, which was really nice. They have a window which I didn't get a picture of that open and it was the perfect weather so that was really great. They had a mixture of booths and tables and also the bar where we sat and we got to watch all the magic happen with the coffee bar right in front of us. It was really interesting to see how fast they work and how well they work together and how the drinks are made overall it was a great experience. All of the food was really good and the portions weren't huge so it was the perfect size before getting on the road. Although I love a good overloaded breakfast plate I never tend to eat it all and I felt like the portions were perfect. The coffee was obviously made fresh in house and oh my gosh did it taste so good. The cappuccino was to die for and it was refillable, which was nice. Everything positive! Excellent wait staff. (Lea is a rock star). Everyone including the manager were pleasant, courteous and helpful. Ambience, throughout, particularly decor, especially, the restroom wallpaper but also the painted sunrise as well as the garage doors opening onto a generous patio, was fresh, upbeat and inviting. All of it is so very charming. The menu is very cool as well. We were in Nashville less than a week and we came twice. I do not recall what we ordered but it was all tasty and delightfully creative. Breakfast all day is a good fit for their offering. I know I had a breakfast casserole once, my wife ordered a cheeseburger which I finished for her. I did not sample her bagel (breakfast) but she enjoyed. Tiny biscuits and jelly were always welcome. I would go again in a minute. Overall, a highlight of our Nashville experience. The first time, I clearly said NO pork and asked for chicken instead, and they still gave me pork anyway. That's not a small mistake -- that's ignoring what a customer specifically asked for. Another time, I found hair in my food, which is absolutely disgusting. That alone should never happen at any restaurant. These aren't one-time problems. Five of us went on a Sunday morning for brunch. Despite having a good-sized parking lot, a couple of us had to park along the curb or circle a couple times looking for a spot. We were added to the waitlist immediately and it took about 30 minutes to get seated. If you have smaller parties, they do have spots at the bar that seem to open up quickly based on the staff asking others waiting in line. Once seated, the waitress was wonderful, she was very prompt and polite, answering all our questions. Sweetmilk has a great collection of Southern breakfast staples from pimento cheese grits to French toast. Their portions are large, so come hungry. For my friends that placed orders with eggs and/or bacon, they do ask how you want them cooked. I got the southern breakfast bowl with fried chicken, pickled red onions, cheesy grits and a fresh biscuit. Absolutely delicious, every bite was well flavored. Definitely look forward to coming back for the sandwiches.
