Caramel covered apples were a hit with the kids. The fudge was so sweet it made my teeth hurt and I just had a free sample. It is funny how they say their items are made with "Belgian Chocolate, the best in the world". I've been to Belgium, but I only remember the beer and horse meat, which I must say was quite good. I'm sure the Swiss would disagree about the best in the world thing. The chocolates were ok, but nothing special. The prices seem a bit steep, but this is Truckee, not much competition. read more

My favorite fudge! Upon cutting a slice and putting it in my mouth, the fudge just melts and leaves a very satisfying feeling. For me, the fudge lasts a long time since the taste is so rich and satisfying. I'm always sad once it is gone, but look forward to coming back to the area to get another treat for myself and friends/family at home. My family has a cabin near here and I always love stopping by to get some fudge before going home. There are many different types to choose from, but my favorite is the regular plain fudge. They knew what they were doing pointing that air vent right over the sidewalk because we smelled the chocolate from a few stores down and were DRAGGED in by the glorious promise of chocolate. The World According to Noelle Allergic Girl's Guide to Life The smell of the delicious candy confections lured us into Sweets Handmade Candies. Service was friendly. I was offered a sample of the chocolate fudge with nuts. I asked the girl behind the counter if she could cut us a sample of the plain chocolate because I was allergic to nuts and she said, "no." I suppose she felt bad and offered me a sample of the caramels. We ended up purchasing the following truffles- honey, white chocolate, cappuccino, key lime, a bag of peanut brittle (a gift for my parents) and a bag of the caramels. The caramels were absolutely delicious, melt in your mouth buttery goodness. We sampled the truffles back at the RCC. The honey truffle seemed muted- definitely needing more honey flavor, the white chocolate truffle was delicious, the cappuccino was decent, the key lime tasted like a key lime and definitely was the best of the bunch. The truffles were smooth and the chocolate was very good. I've been a sweets customer basically my entire life. You can taste the love that is crafted in each delicious treat. They always have an amazing selection, the managers, candy makers, and rest of the staff are awesome, the store entices you from a block away with the smell of bubbling caramel, and the samples make each visit better than a willy Wonka factory tour. The smell of this place was almost sickening but I love candy so I had to go in. They had a nice display of chocolates (obviously) and some popcorn and a few ice cream flavors that I wish I tried. I LOVE coconut and dark chocolate candies so I obviously got that and was sadly disappointed. Though the guy helping us was great and definitely knew his stuff, not one thing me or my Family got was enjoyed, and we got at like 6 different chocolate types. I can't describe the reason but it just did nothing for us. There is a candy/ice cream store a few more stores more into town that looked more old fashion and packed so try that out!! read more

I love old fashioned candy shops. This is a sweet spot. I like how they pass out fudge samples (although I'm not a fan of fudge). We took a bag of popcorm with carmel and chocolate that was really very delicious. The real treasure here was their coffee. I got the most delicious latte. Not sure what brand beans they use but this was a really delicious drink. I was very impressed because I rarely find coffee I like unless I'm at my specific favorite coffee shops. read more

January 18, 2015 Buyer BEWARE!!!!!! $40. per lb. for candy!!!! That's PER POUND. I strolled into Sweets and was greeted by staff. The young lady made great suggestions what to purchase. It was just me and I bought about 6 pieces of candies from their selections. She weighed it and informed me it was $20. I asked her what the price per POUND cost was and she told me $40. and smiled. There was NO SIGN showing the price anywhere. My gosh.. candy is Dandy but $40, PER POUND!! I expect flakes of gold or platinum for that price in the candy. We have a superior Fudge Factory at High Hill in Apple Hill-Pollock Pines, CA. that makes incredible fudge at $12. per lb!. Last time I will patronize Sweets. They won't care because it is all tourists in Truckee, CA,. I could have purchased a fabulous steak or lobster full dinner for $40. that was better tasting and nutritious! read more

Super cute little candy store in Truckee. We treated ourselves to some chocolates and split a caramel apple with almonds. It was delicious! A little on the pricy side but worth it as it was made there on site. The peanut brittle was actually cashew brittle and now I'm a true fan! I never had cashew brittle before but it's my new fav! The young lady who helped us was friendly and allowed us samples of the fudge and brittle! (We went home with said brittle!) read more

I almost positive I wrote a review for them before...but now it's gone. OH well, here we go again. Every thanksgiving/christmas since I was in middle school I've been coming to Tahoe for the holidays. Without fail, my cousin and I always always ALWAYS make sure to stop by here for their ONE OF A KIND CARAMEL APPLES. Even as I'm writing this review, I sort of want to keep it a secret because they are becoming just way too popular. I recently went up last week and they were sold out of the regular caramel apples at 5:30pm. That's never happened before!!! They even told us there were making 200 a day!! They have other kinds as well, caramel apples with nutts, peanut butter, chocolate drizzle, but I am a huge fan of the ORIGINAL. Bottom line, these apples are amazing because no where have I found a better caramel apple to date and I've definitely tried a good amount. The caramel is the secret, and do they know how to keep it secret!! Unless it starts to snow soon, I won't get my caramel apple fix til next November!! RAWR! read more

I think one sentence can sum up this review: This place has always made me happy. As a child, my parents used to let my brother and I pick out one type of fudge each and that would be our weekend treat. To this day, I still have a hard time picking the flavor that I want. Parents and I went on a mega-hike up to Castle Peak. By the time we made it back to the car, one thing, and one thing only, was on our minds... ice cream, and now. Surprisingly, a quick search on Yelp for ice cream shops in Truckee yielded very few places. We decided to try Sweets Handmade Candies on the off-chace that if it is a candy store, it probably also has ice cream. Lo and behold, alongside the fudge and handmade chocolates, there was also ice cream at the end of the store. We got almond toppings on our scoops. It tasted oh so good. I cannot comment on how their sweets taste, because we left before purchasing anything. My 2 year old will not wear a mask (trust me I have tried) and it has never been a problem at any place for the entire past year. When we first entered they told me my 4 year old had to wear a mask but not my little one. She picked up a bag of taffy that I was going to purchase and bit it. I immediately told her not to bite it. (She is TWO. Anyone who has a child understands how hard it is to control 2 years olds and I reacted as quickly as I could. (Even though like I said, I was purchasing it.) Well, an employee behind the counter immediately yelled "IS SHE OVER TWO??" and said "She just put her mouth on that!" I had already handled it. Embarrassing and rude and uncalled for. I immediately said you will not receive our business and walked out. They were rude from the moment we walked in anyways. They will never have my business. Edit: Wow, after reading their responses to negative comments I find it even more infuriating. Covid is NOT an excuse to treat customers the way that they do. And don't worry, no one got Covid from us. We had it a month ago and strictly quarantined well past what was required. Oh my goodness....the best fudge I've ever tasted....and, fresh! Try their "Tahoe Turtle"....fudge on the bottom & a thick layer of carmel on top! My original rating was a 5 star; however, I've had to remove a star due to the last couple of visits. Each time, I purchased 4 bags of marble corn & 1 bag of toffee corn. Now, at 9.95 p/bag...you wouldn't expect (un-popped) kernels [one or two, that's acceptable]. The first time I purchased the toffee corn, I ended up with over 20 kernels! Every mouthful, I was removing 3-4 kernels. Today, I stopped by to purchase another couple bags of marble corn, & I spoke to the mgr ... politely explaining my disappointment. After ringing up my purchase, he offered up another bag of the toffee corn, as well as the store card should I ever have another issue. Sure enough, I opened up the bag when I got home...first mouthful had 3 kernels. So, I phoned him back. He wasn't too thrilled to hear from me..and said he'd check out the bags. No apology, no statement offering another bag upon my next visit. Hmmmm, think I'll skip it next time around....make it myself. I can't afford the dental bills for cracked teeth from kernels. read more

I've been coming to the shop since I could walk up to the fudge makers glass and watch in amazement. The prices are high and they go up every couple years but I don't mind spending extra dollars on a hand crafted FRESH treat on vacation. While this isn't the best fudge that will cross your palate, let's be honest, it takes a lot to turn down fudge. The prices are a bit high, especially for certain gift items. The Good: Watching them make the fresh caramel corn and candy apples in the window. The fudge was wonderful and available in a few nice flavors. They also had some free samples and a generally good vibe. The Bad: Rather pricey. We got a small bag of caramel/chocolate corn as a gift for $9.95. Blocks of fudge were buy 3 get 1 free but the small blocks were $5.95 each. I know it is hand made but the prices were still a bit high. However it is the only shop in town... Great little sweets shop right in the middle of the shopping district. Everything you can think of- caramel apples, chocolate covered pretzels, truffles, fudge, ice cream, etc. You can smell the place as you're walking down the street. Highly recommend shopping by for some yummy treats! read more

Slabs of sugary fudge in a variety of "fun" flavors, clumsily constructed clusters and turtles thrown together from greasy untempered milk chocolate and inexpensive nuts, chocolate dipped you-name-it... you get the idea. read more

Watch the scale, they charge by weight and we found that on two consecutive purchases the cashier overcharged us.
