Dear reader, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea in Novi was a thoroughly lovely stop and exactly the sort of place one hopes to find on a road trip. The staff was super nice, the coffee was excellent, and the whole shop had such a cool atmosphere thanks to all the amazing art around the store. It honestly felt a bit like sitting in an art gallery, only with better caffeine. I got the Triple Mocha Ice Dragon, which was absolutely massive and exactly what I needed. It was essentially a huge mocha frappe with espresso, and I devoured it with alarming speed before enjoying the resulting jolt of energy. It was also the perfect road trip drink to sip on for a while, which made it feel even more worthwhile. Overall, a charming coffee stop and one I would happily return to. read more

Super divey place, and that's exactly why I tried this one out. I needed a cheaper alternative to the other shops I go to. I'm a man who needs large amounts of coffee flavored coffee a lot of the time, and specialty shops charge 4 or 5 bucks for that in a cup that would be classified as medium-sized anywhere else. Sweetwaters has you covered here. Big cups of watered down caffeine, with lesser quality and an unnecessarily hot serving temperature that rapidly becomes tepid. For anything else, keep going to your specialty shop of choice. Frilly drinks aren't that great. Drinkable, but not worth getting. Teas are SUPER strong to the point of tasting artificial. Pastries aren't especially appetizing. Girls behind the counter are sort of weird. Whatever flirt coaching they receive is worse than Starbucks. They also time stamped the bottom of my cup..for yesterday morning's date. Of 2025? Not sure what that's about. You'll save over a dollar on espresso drinks and get one free burnt mouth each. We went to try one of the new Fall beverages. We chose the Pumpkin Cold Brew. It's become our second favorite next to the French Vietnamese Au Lait! Our server was very friendly, welcoming, and professional. She was able to answer all our questions and address our concerns regarding food allergies. She ensured our drinks were safe! Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea continues to be a stellar coffee spot no matter where! The French Vietnamese Au Lait (size: quad) has both a rich flavor with subtle sweetness which makes this coffee drinker content. Light ice helps prevent the drink from being watery. I appreciate that Sweetwaters is a business started by University of Michigan Alums (HAIL and Go Blue!) and people of color. From the story behind the company logo to the merchandise sharing more about the zodiac animals, I can tell it comes from a place of respect & representation not commodification. This franchise of Sweetwaters is a location whose service is friendly and continues to uphold the lasting quality that the Sweetwaters name is known for. While the environment can be noisy due to chatter or white noise from bean grinders at times, overall, it's a space that feels welcoming & open. Puzzles and games are available for in-house activities. I like seeing the artwork around the walls which is often local artisans selling their pieces through QR codes. This was my first time. so many beverage options. I was surprised to know that the double is actually a single. I'm very impressed with the selection of savories and sweets as snacks. I ordered the chai tea latte hot. They only had 2% milk so I opted for the half-and-half cream. Very good. And for a savory, I got the leek and Parmesan pastry. Great flavor combination! Fantastic! My friend ordered the spinach and feta pastry, which she thoroughly enjoyed! I sampled the housemade ginger lemon tea. It did not have a strong ginger flavor that I was hoping for. The establishment is very clean. Great outdoor tables on the north side of the building in the shade. Great for summer sitting. I will not order here again. I was the only vehicle in the drive-thru. When I pulled up to the speaker to order, I said "hello?" Several times and debated out loud if I should just try to order at the window when someone finally spoke up to take my order. Then when I pull up to the window, I waited for at least 5 minutes for one drink. I could see the order counter inside and there was no one else ordering but yet 3 employees were standing around talking doing nothing to fulfill my order. I almost drove away. Then when someone finally made my drink, she didn't even greet me, just threw the cup at me and asked for my card. Did not offer me a receipt. No pleasantries after either. Terrible customer service. On top of that, the drive thru is poorly designed. There is a 90° angle turn right before the window and it is impossible to pull up close enough without hitting the curb. The curb is scrapped up so terribly. It was also raining and the mini roof over the drive thru window was perfectly oriented to drip all the big drops it accumulates into my window/door. So now I know why I never see anyone use this drive thru. Such a shame that the service was so terrible because their coffee is actually decent. read more

Quick and great place for a treat! I got the dreamy chai and it was delicious. I only wished there was less cream. I also got passion fruit iced tea. It tasted more like an herbal tea rather than passion fruit but was still great! The best part was the person working! She spoke to me over the intercom who helped me pick my drinks. Oh how sweet it is. It's not too far from our shop. A chamomile tea, a latte with oat milk, spinach and ricotta croissant and a Turkey, cheese and egg bagel for breakfast this morning. The croissant sandwiches are pre-made, ended up getting a spinach and ricotta, wasn't too bad, warmed up would be better. The Asiago cheese bagel with egg, cheese and Turkey is quite yummy. It hit the spot. The chamomile is dried flowers that nicely are nicely steeped and blow up after rehydrating. It's calming. Their lattes are what we come here for, they whip up a good Joe here. In the past year, I noticed that Sweetwaters has opened up in Novi. Previously, I've only been to the Ann Arbor location. The café is clustered with many other restaurants, at the Novi Town Center. I was in the mood for iced tea and two choices stood out: Imperial Milk Tea and Thai Iced Tea. Both drinks are only available cold, in sizes double or larger. The staff did a nice job explaining the differences when I dithered between the two. In the end, I went with the Imperial Milk Tea only because I've had Thai Iced Team many times before. It's been awhile since I've been to any Sweetwaters, but the one here in Novi Town Center is no different than any other Sweetwaters I've been to in Michigan. I've always been a fan of their teas (especially the one that is brewed in a tea pot and you can take your time to pour and sip). My friend and I decided to squat at Sweetwaters for about an hour before heading to dinner, which was a great decision. The space was clean with several small round tables and a big sharable table in the back. I got the single latte with oat milk which was a reasonable price ($5 pre-tax since there's an $1.05 up charge for oat milk). Overall, it was enjoyable to sip on while my friend and I chatted, and I was pleasantly surprised that I could taste the coffee in my drink. read more

Great location! This is my go to coffee shop to meet up with my SIL. It's conveniently next to the freeway and lots of parking options. My SIL usually opt for early mornings meet ups, so opening at 6am is perfect. I always order the matcha green tea latte. Lots of alternative dairy options, which is great! I like the the matcha here because it's not sweet. If you like it sweeter, you can always add sugar. There are a few food options. I usually get the biscuit egg sandwich. The store is huge! So lots of places to sit and lounge. Love that we never feel rushed to leave because people are waiting to sit down. We normally spend hours here. Another thing I love is the artwork they support. Not only is it beautiful, but it's created by individuals living with autism. I have been here multiple times and seen rotating artwork. Everything is up for sale too. read more

My husband and I usually use the drive thru and get drinks which I would recommend. Our last two visits we ordered ahead and picked up and our drinks were put in a carrier inside a bag. They leaked everywhere. I was able to catch it the first time as I was holding the bag but I wasn't with him this time and he arrived home with less than half of my drink left. The first time I could understand a bag because we had ordered breakfast sandwiches, but if it's just two drinks, why the bag? Not sure if the cup holder just isnt the right fit or what but I'm quite sad as I ordered it as a pick me up for a migraine. This looked like a good spot, but that quickly changed. - didn't have brewed coffee and since they were closing in 1.5 hours, they didn't want to brew more coffee. - the tea tasted like it had sweaters in them, which was awful - wifi wasn't working, and when asked, their response was wifi has not been recently working with no effort to try and resolve. - and lastly, got one of the hazelnut biscuits they had on the counter only to find out they were stale. Came here on a Sunday morning at 10:30 and it was not busy. They have a drive thru which is always a plus for those lazy mornings. The plain black coffee is very good, the dreamt cold brew was good, and the blueberry scone was just average. I had a free birthday drink coupon for my birthday, and I was in the Novi area today before visiting my parents. This Sweetwaters is right in Novi Town Center so it was convenient today. They have a drive-thru but it's the oddest one I've seen - instead of looping around the building, it's like a half-loop on the side. I've only had Sweetwaters one other time, in Ann Arbor, and I had some sort of delicious apple cider concoction. This time I opted for a triple (large-size) chai (tea) latte with soy milk. When I pulled up to the window, originally the cashier said my coupon wasn't usable for that drink... But the fine print says you can't use it on ice cream or bottled drinks, and so she then figured it out. The chai tea latte isn't as good as Starbucks' and tasted a little watery, but it has a strong honey taste, which I liked. I'd stop by here again next time I'm in town - or, more likely, the Troy location, which is about five minutes from me. read more

Two employees were working yesterday morning on our first visit to sweetwaters. i'm not sure if they were new employees but for a café where nobody is in the drive-through and we were the only customers it took them a while to make two drinks.. they both seemed to have pleasant attitudes they weren't overly nice but they didn't actually welcome us into the café or anything and when the person took my order it was just hey what can I get for you. The energy and atmosphere and ambience was a bit dull because maybe everybody was hung over from New Year's which I understand but it wasn't super early in the morning that we went either it was kind of mid morning almost afternoon. The thing that definitely takes it from a four star to a three star is definitely the speed of the service and the screeching of the espresso machine I was a barista for four years and I can tell you the noise that that poor machine was making absolutely no... it stopped me dead in my tracks and I actually could not hear the cashier over the machine which should never never never ever happen it was horrible like nails on a chalkboard I tried not to have my face noticeably disturbed but there needs to be some sort of retraining or something there. I have gone to nearly every single coffee shop around the Tri-County area and I have only ever heard that noise one other time and it came along with a horrendous .. probably the worst experience in coffee ever... but luckily my latte turned out just fine and that is the one notable thing that I have noticed.. I would definitely come back and maybe go to the drive-through I cannot imagine working on my computer in that place that's a definite NO.. the art in the café though was awesome I enjoyed looking at the different artwork pieces. i'm definitely not comfortable addressing the issue in person .. I don't want to come off wrong and sound like oh you are steaming the milk the wrong way but as a trained barista it's painfully obvious and I can hear the espresso machine.. if I was more comfortable I might be comfortable saying something but definitely not my place to say. if they had some sort of retraining or something on bar I definitely would be more open to giving more stars I wonder how they make a cappuccino there and how that would turn out I am glad my latte turned out just fine. overall the menu and food looked really good and most of the drinks look amazing I feel like this place is a little bit out of the way but overall decent especially if they get their routine down and learn how to use the equipment I feel like this could be a five star place read more

I'm always up for trying a new (to me) coffee spot! I stopped in here today and took advantage of the free wifi to get some work done. It's a cozy place with friendly staff. There's plenty of seating from small 2 tops to a large table for a group. All the artwork on the walls is for sale for a great cause. They've got some super cute mugs and t-shirts and even growlers for purchase as well. It was the perfect place to take a break from holiday shopping! read more

I really want to give this place more stars but this location is NOT consistent. I've been here THREE TIMES. Now first time was GREAT. Lemon Bars they have are homemade and you should try them. However, second time I came they not only got my drink order WRONG but also the 2 drinks we ordered were UNDRINKABLE. The blueberry scone was hard as a ROCK and Lemon Bar (second & third time around) tasted like it was cooked in a dirty oven. They also put WAAAY TOO MUCH GINGER in both our drinks we ordered today and we ended up throwing everything but the lemon bar out. We ordered a regular ice tea and they gave us some sort of iced drink with so much ginger it tasted like CRAP. Along with my hot ginger tea. Gagged when I drank it. Customer service was also bad this time around. They didn't get our drink right and they obviously don't know how to ring in items because it also took forever. Hopefully this place gets their training under control because this location DOES HAVE POTENTIAL. But when you screw up literally "cookies & tea" I have a hard time choosing this place over Starbucks. read more

This is my go-to coffee place almost every day! 99% of the time I utilize the drive-thru because of the convenience. What I love is that other local coffee shops, especially Starbucks, always have long lines. Sweetwater hardly ever has a line even during the morning "get your coffee fix" rush hour. I am in and out usually in less than 5 minutes if not quicker. Total win! I order a very specific coffee and staff has always done a great job with getting the order right each time. For you coffee lovers, you know how rewarding it feels to get the perfect blend of milk in your coffee to your liking. Very pleased that it doesn't matter which staff member makes my coffee, it is always consistent every day - something that is super important to me with my coffee choices. This is a smallish spot in Novi Towne Center (formally Biggby) near Potbelly and AT&T with plenty of parking. I find it a nice spot for a quick stop or leisurely chat with a friend over a nice drink and snack. This being said, the last two visits were anything but stellar. It does make a difference when owners or proper supervision are not evident. Our last visit was not a pleasant. Upon entering, no greeting, no inquiry. We approached the countertop and waited for one of the 4 employees to acknowledge the presence of customers. Two of us...my hubby ordered a smoothie type drink he favors and pastry from the showcase. I ordered a tea (I can't have caffeine). This herbal tea only comes in a large size and not iced. OK. I have restrictions, I get it. You adapt. Also ordered the spinach pastry. After 10 minutes, the smoothie and tea arrived, then the warmed spinach pastry. Five more minutes, hubby had to approach the counter ask ask after his danish. Opps, I forgot, was the reply. He declined it being warmed in case it never appeared again. We semi enjoyed this visit. There were 4 other patrons and a few carryout beverages whilst we were there. A local place is nice and realization is they can't have everthing. It is still nice atmosphere, convenient, a moderate selection of savory and sweet food items. Beverage selection, not so much. Only the singular caffeine and sugar free item. Yes, I will go back, if only to support a local place and due to convenience. I'm so thrilled that Sweetwaters has a new Novi location! WITH a drive-thru! I adore their Jasmine Iced Tea and if you're hungry their egg and cheese bagel is quite good. I've had their tiramisu and it's pretty delicious! I'll have to branch out the more I go there. I feel as though I'm breaking through my Starbucks rut by going here. They have a beautifully expansive menu that includes many different tea items which I've switched over to.
