I have been to this place twice now and they do not let me down. The first time was when they had just opened and it was crazy busy. This time was more relaxed. It's cool seeing the employees sprint from car to car. These guys are full of energy! The food is a little above regular fast food quality. They have a pretty decent selection items on their menu. I got the Galley boy burger which comes with cheese, bbq sauce and some type of sweet sauce. The buns are toasted up really nice which is a plus. And they have this great speciality drink called the California which is like a carbonated grape juice drink. Just a review about the food. The staff was friendly, the nostalgic vibe of the site was charming. I ordered the famous Galley Boy burger; it was bland except the sugar in the BBQ sauce; presentation was a crumpled up burger, no effort to wrap it up mindfully. Burger in a recyclable box is a good idea especially if you are claiming the burger is so good. Fries were good, airy and crisp. Shake was salty, measurements of add-in's must've been off. Having lived in Cleveland for years and having Swensons there, we knew what to expect (good burgers served in their unique way - Galley Boys with their sauce and something sweet about the buns overall). Our family of 6 rolled up on a weekday night as it was newly opened and near impossible to get a spot any weekend night. We each ordered either a kids burger or normal burger, myself with a Galley Boy, along with fries, onion rings and a shake. Everyone received their food in about 10-15 mins and the food was fine. And I think that is my problem with it and why it gets 3 stars. Yes, it was a expected greasy cheeseburger but there was nothing all that special about it that I felt a urge to return immediately. Honestly all the toppings kind of mushed together and it just tasted like bread, meat and cheese in the end. While I'm not a huge fan of eating in a car, this burger stop was top-tier. Service was incredible as the staff literally runs to your car with a smile. Saw several near collisions while waiters and waitresses ran burgers and shakes back and forth which added unexpected entertainment (disclaimer: no service staff was injured during my meal). I could tell my burger was grilled with love and the shake was straight up fire. Chocolate PB all dayyy Would definitely recommend this place as somewhere to catch up with friends and family. The GalleyBoy is the best burger in Ohio, bar none. And the service at all the Swenson's locations is fast (literally -- the employees run to the cars unless they're carrying trays of food) and friendly. It's a great throwback experience, with the benefit of outstanding food. It used to be that I could get Swenson's only when I visited family up north. Now it's close enough (to Cincinnati) for me to make the occasional GalleyBoy-run just for the food. (Yes, 90 miles/90 minutes just for this burger. It's that good.) read more

My first Swenson's visit 4/6 was decent I went to Hilliard location since being in the area. The burgers were actually well done & the teezers were nice and crisp the guy had forgot my fry but no big deal I wanted to try a new side. I just didn't know nor was I informed that you had to separately add and pay for toppings/condiments. My 2nd Swenson's experience on 4/7 was the best I went to the Dublin location, the food was prepared well done like we asked and we also had all condiment/toppings we asked and payed for and our shakes were strawberry and banana mixed it was perfect the food was delicious! but today was my 3rd and probably last time going to Swensen's, I asked for well done burgers and the ones I received were cold and pink, they also didn't add all of the toppings I was charged for. I got 2 milkshakes that were supposed to be mixed (2 flavors) which I was also charged for and didn't receive, this ruined what I thought would become a regular spot for me and my family this summer. Just some tips: I would have them repeat the order back. Also make sure you have all of your toppings/condiments before paying/leaving! read more

Arrived, nobody greeted is for about 10 minutes so we placed an order online and about 10 minutes after that we were finally greeted by staff. Informed them we had placed an online order, she went to check on it. Then we waited 20 minutes before another staff member approached and asked if we need anything else. "Just our food." He went to check on it, spoke with his colleague. Our neighbor had them remake her food because it was cold. Nobody came back, didn't answer our phone calls. We went to check on it and then they claimed they were really backed up. The food is pretty good for what is supposed to be fast food, but it is definitely not worth a 50-minute wait. Great burgers at a cheap price. The quarter pounder was the perfect size, regular toppings came with pickles, onions, mustard and cheese. The onion rings are not too thick or thin and just right crunchiness. The peanut butter milkshake was good too. They give you tray stands to eat in your car. I'll definitely go back. read more

I'm an Akron Cuyahoga Falls native which is where the 1st Swenson's drive-in was created .. grew up on it and have been going back home for years and making it a destination stop b4 heading home (Maryland, Columbus)... I visited the Swenson's drive in on Sawmill to test it out .. When I go to Swenson's always order The Galley Boy , my all-time favorite burger .. 2 burger patties that are marinated or cooked in a brown sugar with a BBQ sauce and mayo sauce and gooey cheese on top.. bun is always fresh and steamed .. also they pin a green olive on top with toothpick .. signature for the Galley boy to chomp on for your enjoyment ... also I recommend the California .. which is a grape/ginger ale/sprite mixture that pairs well with your favorite burger .. sides are greasy but yummy .. always recommend the fried mushrooms and potato teasers, definitely won't go wrong .. the egg salad, and tomato soup another yummy combo for lunch .. try their shakes !! Especially the egg nog- pretty yummy ... get over to Swenson's DI for old fashion car hop service and huge flavors on their burgers.. takes you back to a simpler time enjoy the grub!! read more

This is one of my hometown favorites- the food never disappoints. The galley boy is a winner! Prices are great! The four star rating is based only on the parking situation. The lot is not appropriate for Drive-in style dining and there isn't nearly enough space. You need to back in to the spaces and then sit there and pray one of the workers doesn't get hit by people that fly through the parking lot with no regard - it's a little unsettling for me. read more

I haven't had Swenson's since I was a child, and from the excellent service to the famous galley burger and the grape milkshake.. It's exactly as I remembered, if not better. So...I'm still in shock. Not sure if good or bad, but leaning towards annoyed. The partially good first: a. The burger had an interesting sweet taste that did not fit the barbecue burger taste but echoed the mention of it having brown sugar somewhere in the ingredients. B. The potato tweezers or whatever they are called are more compact and not as greasy as Sonics. The bad: the size of the goodey boy burger was like the two-for-one cheeseburgers of McDonald's hugging each other. The tweezers left me wanting. I ordered a regular drink, supposedly 16oz. (See cups for scale). At least it's filled to the brim. Then the piece de resistance: $8.87 for all this. With no final bill except it written on the paper mat on the weird contraption that was the food tray that looked like it would scrape my car. (Disclaimer, I would have needed instructions anyway to put it up). The weird annoying questioning part is twofold. 1. If it wasn't for yelp pictures of the menu with price I would not have guesstimated the cost ( though I was like $1.87 short). 2. I gave the dude $9. He did not give me any change back ($.13 adds up). But I guess I involuntarily donated it to maybe them getting signs that show the cost of their items, true to life pictures, AND their estimated sales tax. Not impressed to go back. I grew up with Swensons in Akron. I loved it! They could never do my stomach wrong. It was a guaranteed stop for me if I ever went to visit my family, but 2 hours is too much of a drive for a burger, no matter how delicious. I heard they were opening this location and I was elated. Less than 2 miles from home. But with that joy came fear: what if it wasn't as good as I remember? What if the standards aren't the same? What if it's just a pale facsimile of what I remembered so fondly? It was all I remembered and more. Truly Swensons didn't want to move this far south until they were sure it would be every bit the restaurant it is in northeastern Ohio. They succeeded. Is it different? YES! Is it the cheapest burger? NO Is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY!!!! Sure it's unusual to eat in your car and not have an option not to. It's a drive in as they were in days gone by. The unique flavors and variety are what make this, not just a restaurant, but an experience. A new generation will look back on this as I did for years and crave that juicy, and yet somehow sweet, burger. They'll long for a milkshake that is so thick, no straw can stand up to it. People will be confused if it's their first time, but be patient with them. You were once where they are, and you too can remember that first delicious bite. I waited years for this to open, and now that it has (and lives up to expectations) I look forward to continuing to share it with my friends and family. Hopefully you will, too. read more

My first time to Swensons to see for myself what all the hype was about. There were about 30cars for lunch and the car hops were running around mostly without food or taking orders. Waited about 15 minutes for my Galley Boy and onion rings. I thought best to go with the signature sandwich the Galley boy. It's a double burger thin patties with one piece of American cheese in the middle. The patties were dried out and tough with no burger flavor. The two special sauces appeared to be a sweet bbq sauce on the bottom and a white sauce on top that was pasty. The white sauce tasted neither of tartar sauce or mayonnaise. The bun was grilled and fresh and the only redeeming quality of the sandwich. The onion rings were cold. I know Swensons is a regional NE Ohio favorite and really was excited to try, really wanted to like The New burger place, but I don't get it. read more
