The service was very good. The server was dope attentive, being at the table before we needed something. I had the prime rib with baked potatoe and salad. The garlic ranch dressing was incredible. Our party of five ended up at Skip's after we found a two-hour wait for our group at Heston's Supper Club in La Porte, Indiana (they do not take reservations). SO glad that happened. Skip's opened in 1974, and still looks almost exactly like it did 50 years ago. I am not a fan of 1970s architecture (mansard roof, rough brown brick, etc.), but it's still fun to see an old-school restaurant like this still thriving. We were seated after a 20 minute wait, and our server was prompt and friendly. It was surprising and exciting to see that their soup of the day was morel! Skip's has a large menu, and price points to suit every budget. Although they are known for their prime rib, three people in our group opted for the walleye pike. They all said that it was very good. I ordered the fried shrimp platter. The shrimp were abundant, perfectly fried, and delicious. We had a wonderful night at Skip's and I would highly recommend a visit if you're in Michigan on Red Arrow Highway. read more

Went out for a casual dinner and ordered the New York strip. It had a bold flavor and was super juicy. The crust on the outside was done really well, had a nice smoky taste to it. I wasn't a huge fan of the fries that came with it, they were a little soggy, but the steak more than made up for it. Our waitress was really sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. The decor is simple but comfortable, nothing fancy. Good food and a chill vibe. read more

Just left this amazing restaurant. 4 of us attended to celebrate our 54th anniversary dinner. We come here every year. I get my fix on Barb's Cut Prime Rib. My husband had a big NY Strip steak while my oldest son and his wife had a smaller version of NY Strip steak. An amazing place, great atmosphere, great service. Been coming here for years. Seven of us dined at Skips. Food was average at best and in my opinion overpriced. Our prime rib was lukewarm and our steaks were not cooked as orderd. The calamari and the perch tasted like they came out of a low budget fish vendors distribution. A small scoop of spinach was the vegetable. super disappointed in Skips. 7 of us went to dinner . we spent 2 1/2 hours there which most of it was spent waiting. usally things move pretty quickly but this evening not so much. the salad looked like last weeks bagged salad yellowed but then covered up with a few spinach leaves, I'm thinking it was to hide the old lettuce. they we're out of prime rib (the main reason we went there) out of ribeye we waited over 90 mins for our entrees & when we got them out steaks were ice cold, fries were ice cold. they offered to warm it up or replace it but since we had waited so long the first time we really didn't want to wait any longer. drink refills took forever. since our entrees were taking so long they brought us more bread but they had already cleared our salad plates, bread plates & knives & salad forks-nothing to spread butter on the bread. our bill was well over $400 & basically it was like they don't care that the service & temp of the food was subpar. they did offer our son a free desert since they heard us say it was his birthday, but thats it. read more

Been back in the last month and the Prime Rib did not disappoint. The service was better although the restaurant was out of the perch and shrimp dinner. Server said distribution issues. I understand. I came here with a friend for the Thanksgiving buffet. What a huge disappointment! We had reservations in my friend's name, which is Hispanic. There were plenty of empty tables when we arrived, but we were placed at a small two-top in a back corner next to a wall. In fact, other two-two tables were substantially larger than ours. There was barely room to lift my arm to eat without bumping the wall. Apparently there is an ethnic bias here, as the rest of the guests were pretty vanilla and none of them were crammed up against the wall in a corner. The interior decor looks like it hasn't been updated since they opened in the 70's and it definitely needs more than just a coat of paint. The salad was a bag of iceberg lettuce and a bag of spinach mixed together. You could add a couple of grape tomatoes and a slice of cucumber. That's it. The broccoli soup had the consistency and saltiness of a condensed can of soup that wasn't properly diluted. The dressing was clearly out of the same bag that you get at the local grocer. The turkey was simply the roll of turkey breast with the strange casing, not skin. The gravy had clearly come out of a can or a jar and the ham was so salty neither of us could eat it. The rolls were such a pale color that they looked like the type you buy and bake at home--which they apparently were but someone forgot to actually bake and brown them. The "corn casserole" was just cornbread from a mix that had corn added to it. There were various cookies arranged on a platter that all had the exact same size. Clearly not baked in house. The crime is that they charged $69.00 per person and beverages such as a glass of soda were not included. Then they added a mandatory tip on top of that! It was a ridiculous amount to pay for a meal where nothing was actually cooked from scratch. We would have been better off sticking with the snacks we had in our room at a nearby inn. We definitely won't be back. read more

Wow, what a disappointment! We've been to Skips a few times in the past and my husband always loved the prime rib. Knowing we'd be back in town for the week, he's been waiting anxiously to go back for the prime rib. Tonight was the night! The host seated us at our table ... but no one showed up!! There was a banquet going on in the private room and apparently staff was more interested in serving that party than our table. I love Skip's. It has so much nostalgia for me because I've been coming here since childhood. I hadn't eaten here in 17 years, and we came for my birthday last night. It was delicious! I hadn't had prime rib in many years, so I didn't know whether I still liked it, and I did. I loved it! It was melt in your mouth tender and flavorful. I asked for extra au jus and horseradish sauce. I dipped each bite in au jus. The flavors were so wonderful together. My baked potato was also perfectly cooked and loaded. I'm a big fan of French onion soup and it was perfect. I order French onion soup everywhere I go, and this version stands out for having the most delicious broth. We ordered the 8 ounce fried perch dinner as an appetizer and it was the best perch. It's was lightly dusted, not greasy, and so fresh, delicate, and delicious. The spinach artichoke dip is also the best version of itself. Last night was my 16-year old daughter's first time trying prime rib and she loved it to. My brother ordered a medium rare ribeye, and he said his steak was cooked to perfection and a great steak. Wasn't able to try their prime rib and crab leg AYCE yet, but have eaten their filet mug on and scallops plate that was maybe the best surf n turf I've ever had. Servers are some of the most attentive ever. Food, on the other hand needs a jumpstart. Prime rib served too cold. How do you mess up prime rib? Baked potato comes out in aluminum foil. Skip's has to get itself to the 21st Century. If people become aware of Copper Rock at Four Winds, Skips will lose business. If you enjoy prime rib it is definitely one of the best places to order. Several cuts for all appetites. Recommend the double baked potato side which is unlike any other I have had.
