They will lie to get you off the phone, then ghost you completely. Zero accountability or care for supporting patients financially through proper claim filing, even when you handle-hold them to what needs to be submitted to insurance. I'm writing this review to warn others about the incompetence I've experienced with this dental office's insurance handling. What should have been a straightforward scaling and root planing procedure in January 2025 has turned into a year-long ordeal that's now costing me an additional $800 out of pocket; money I shouldn't owe if they had done their job correctly or followed up when I did their work for them. The Timeline of Incompetence: January 2025: I had scaling and root planing done. Paid $248 out of pocket at the time of service. The office led me to believe this would be pre-authorized with my insurance. It wasn't. July 2025: My claim was denied by BCBS Dental due to insufficient documentation/justification from the dental office. Then the resubmission was also denied. According to BCBS, the office apparently just copy-pasted some generic justification on the resubmission without providing the actual clinical details required. I was not notified of either denial by the dental office. Here's what makes this inexcusable: This is a common procedure. The office literally wrote a blog post about it (https://www.leanderdental.com/blog/deep-cleaning/) and emailed their entire patient list promoting it in the middle of last year. I've even had this exact procedure done successfully with a previous dentist who had zero issues getting insurance to cover it. Yet somehow, this office couldn't figure out how to document it properly? The worst part? They never told me about any of this or my increased financial responsibility. August 2025: I only discovered the problem when I started receiving monthly statements for $791.86. When I called, Christina in the front office claimed they were "waiting on a decision for the resubmitted claim." So I called BCBS myself and learned the claim had already been denied a month earlier. I had to do their job for them. BCBS gave me detailed guidance on exactly what documentation was needed: pocket depths, bone loss measurements, crestal bone level greater than 2 mm apical to the CEJ, radiographic evidence, etc. I called the office back within an hour with these specific instructions. Christina assured me they would coordinate with my hygienist and resubmit with the proper clinical details. I was advised to ignore the statements for the time, as the claim would be re-submitted with greater supporting narrative / details. That never happened. The Final Insult: January 2026: Over ONE YEAR after my procedure, Zarika from the office finally called about my outstanding $700+ balance. She informed me they had resubmitted "as a courtesy" the one time and would not be submitting again. This directly contradicted Christina's promise. I explained the entire situation and referenced my previous conversation. Zarika said Christina would call me back within an hour. I never heard from them. I followed up with an email to the office, but never heard back by email either. The office will make promises to defuse an uncomfortable phone call, but won't do the work to actually follow up on the patient's requests/needs. They don't seem to care that a $250 out-of-pocket procedure becomes over $1000 out-of-pocket, despite the patient explaining to the billing department EXACTLY how to avoid that, per insurance. What This Means: Either this dentist performed dental work that wasn't medically necessary (unlikely), or - more probably - the front office/billing department is either too lazy or too inexperienced to file insurance claims correctly. This office failed at every single step: * No pre-authorization despite implying there would be for an expensive procedure * No proactive communication when the claim was denied (twice) * No proper follow-up / claim resubmission even when I communicated to them the exact documentation requirements * Conflicting information between staff members * Broken promises about callbacks * Zero accountability I'm now stuck with an $800 bill because they couldn't be bothered to document a routine procedure properly, communicate honestly about my claim status, or follow through on their promises. Thankfully, I proactively cancelled my other appointments with the office for ongoing dental procedures, pending a successful resolution to this issue, which didn't happen. So I saved myself additional headaches and high out-of-pocket costs. I am not one who routinely feels anxious about dental care, but I was really feeling terrified. After an appointment with Dr Guan, who is always very patient and informative, it was time for a deep ultrasonic cleaning after missing the last two years of routine cleanings. I was almost in tears, but right away, Wendy put me at ease and promised that my pain was her pain and she would make sure we both made it out pain free. She called Dr Guan back to inject some local numbing medicine, which isn't the most fun, but it did the trick and throughout the cleaning, scaling and lasering, Wendy watched my body language closely and kept checking in to make sure I was okay and not just touching it out. She was as comforting as a mama, without ever making me feel bothersome or "extra" about being nervous. She was also super meticulous about getting every bit of calcified plaque off my teeth. I really appreciate how thorough and gentle she was. So much so, that I gave her a big hug after and thanked her profusely. I have had braces, an implant, a crown and a below gumline root canal here and I have always been kept informed about costs, options, and preventative maintenance. I love my dental team and I am so beyond happy to recommend Wendy. She is awesome!

Earlier this year, I had a crown done by Dr. Multani, and it was by far the worst dental experience I've ever had. I've had several crowns done over the years, so I'm familiar with the procedure, but I had never experienced anything like this. The procedure itself was extremely uncomfortable and painful. I felt like my gums and surrounding teeth were repeatedly being knocked and poked during the procedure, and my face and mouth were swollen for several days afterward. That had never happened to me after a crown before. What made the experience even more frustrating was that Dr. Multani appeared to be extremely overbooked. She repeatedly had to stop working on me to move between other patients, and this happened numerous times throughout the appointment. It made an already stressful procedure even more difficult. My bite was off after the crown was placed, so I let her know and she made several adjustments, but it still didn't feel right. She suggested waiting until the next day to see how it felt and said I could come back if it still needed to be adjusted. I returned the following day, and unfortunately, the same situation happened again. She was working on multiple patients and I repeatedly had to wait for her to come back to me. After several more attempts to adjust my bite, it still wasn't right. At that point, I was concerned that continuing to grind the crown down would compromise it, so I decided to leave. Every time I tried to chew on that side, I experienced significant pain. Essentially, I couldn't use that side of my mouth to chew. The office offered to fix it, but after what I had already experienced, I did not feel comfortable having the same dentist continue working on the crown. The following week, we ended up paying another dentist (who I am very thankful for and who is now my current dentist); to fix the problem. That meant I essentially had to go through the crown procedure on the same tooth twice in less than a month and pay for the procedure twice. What made the situation even more frustrating was the lack of response afterward. We had paid Cedar Park Modern Dentistry in full before the original procedure. Once it became clear that the crown had not been completed properly and had to be redone, we began contacting the office about disputing the charge and even had our new dentist write a letter explaining the issue(s) identified when she examined my tooth. This was over 6 months ago, and despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue through calling and leaving repeated voicemails we never received a response. Now, I'm still receiving bills from them this week (note they never returned the $1000.00 we paid them for what amounted to nothing). Unfortunately, the entire experience--from the procedure itself, to the repeated bite adjustments, to having to pay another dentist to correct the work as an emergency, and finally the lack of communication afterward--has been extremely disappointing. Based on my experience, I would not return to this office and would not recommend it to others.

I had gotten work done last August at another Renken. I made an apt here since I now moved to Leander and was still in pain. I had gone to another dental office (not Renken) in April or May and was advised that I would need the crown replaced if the pain didn't subside and since it was done within the year timeframe to go back to the office I had gotten it done. I thought all Renkens were contracted together and was not told EACH IS SEPARATE until after the appointment. That isn't even the main reason I am upset. I am upset because the billing manager tried to insinuate it was odd I waited so long. First of all I wasn't asking for a refund so not sure what I would have to gain. I only wanted the work redone. Maybe some people like having dental work done again for fun but that isn't my idea of a good time. She needs to learn proper etiquette such as how to properly speak with customers and understand dental billing with insurance. Work is normally guaranteed for at least a year. The other staff was nice but I would caution going here since she unfortunately needs further training and coaching. I will be contacting the general manager here as well as leadership at Renken for her to get proper training. Lucky for me my job is to find people online that may not be listed so shouldn't be hard to get in touch with Dr. Renken himself even though he is in another state. It appears this is a known issue as well if you look at other reviews. Luckily I do not bunch all Renkens together and feel bad for the dentist and non billing staff because they were nice. We received an estimate for our cleanings (which they wouldn't just do on our first appointment) and other work which came out to be significantly more than other places I've gone. Even in-network, their charges came to $200-$300 more for a crown than I've paid in the past AFTER what insurance covers. Plus, they want to up-charge you for other things, like a "laser package" deep cleaning. Shouldn't this just be included in your cleaning if it's something they highly recommend for most patients? If money isn't an issue for you then this place might be fine but for our young family every dollar matters and this place just isn't for us.

I did not look at the reviews before going (won't make that mistake again!!) I want to stress that before this, I had not been to the dentist for three years. I expected some type of work (cavities etc) would need to be done. However, I take decent care of my teeth and had NEVER had a cavity or any type of dental work - besides wisdom teeth - done before this. Everyone was very very friendly, check in didn't take long, and overall very nice initial experience. Once in the room though, I waited for about 25 mins for things to get going. Once they started, they informed me that I had stage 2 periodontal disease, and that it was completely irreversible as I had 15% bone loss. They also informed me that I had 7 cavities that would need to be filled, along with several more that were on a watch list. I was shocked to say the least, and asked what I could do for it. They said I would need a deep cleaning, and asked if I wanted to do it today. At this point I was two hours into my appointment and hadn't had a cleaning or anything, so I told them I would need to discuss with the front and schedule it out. It was around $1700 worth of things that they said I needed to get one, and I was super panicked. I decided to get a second opinion before I committed to this, and went to see my previous dentist today. I requested my x rays from here, but never received them, so my other office ended up having to redo them. I do have a couple of cavities (not near what they said) but ZERO gum disease. Not even gingivitis. Here, my gum pockets were supposedly ranging from 4-6 mm, but at that dentist they were at a 2-3. I see some people love it here and that's great, but I will definitely not be coming back and just want to caution others, as this seems to be an issue in the last 3-4 months here.

From the front staff Christy an Kaycee made things smooth sailing while always communicating and keeping me up-to-date on my appointment and committing to call me as a reminder and just all around being friendly and kind from the moment, you walk in the door. Unlike some places where the front staff is pissy and rude and just makes you feel like you're in an awkward place and being judged. The communication with the doctors is on point and they always get back to you immediately if there's a question or concern. Once you are called back into the back rooms and start your procedure I will admit that Dr. Ho and Dr. Brian are the best and most accommodating doctors that I've ever been to in the Dental world. Not only are they relatable and communicative, but they're kind and caring with concern not just about the dollar but about your smile. When it comes down to it, I have never once felt out of place or in judgment or seen for less than because my smile was not the best and brightest. Over the years that has NEVER changed as these amazing doctors have taken the time and consideration to do what's in my best interest for my teeth for today and in the future. I love the opportunity to just engage with them and has a human interaction other than a superior over myself. Never have they made me feel less than as a person just because I'm not as educated as they are.
