Sylk Salon and Spa is a pleasant surprise. Tucked away in an unassuming building nestled between Fairport and Penfield, you'd never guess that there was a spa hidden in the industrial-looking complex. I have had three separate experiences here and have been happy each time, feeling relaxed and blissed out when I head home.
My first visit was for a blueberry facial, based on the low price and the fact that I hadn't had one in a few years and my skin desperately needed the assist. From the moment I walked through the door, I was transported from the industrial exterior into the relaxing waiting area. When it was time for my appointment, I was shown the treatment room and got comfortable on the table. When we were finished, my skin felt as soft as the softest cliches you can imagine. Treatment number one: a resounding success.
I returned for a Swedish massage not long after that because I love massages and have to see what they're like at as many places as I can to ensure that I'm not only getting the best deal, but am actually relaxing at the same time. I know, what a concept. Not surprisingly, my massage was amazing. The massage therapist was a little chatty, which I didn't mind, but for those of you who prefer a more quiet experience, keep this in mind. I ended up booking the same therapist as a gift to my sister a few weeks later, and she thoroughly enjoyed her massage as well. Treatment number two: yet another resounding success.
Finally, I came back for the one treatment I never thought I'd ever get in a million years: a spray tan. As pale as I am, I always assumed that any level of spray tan would result in my uncanny resemblance to Donatella Versace, among other examples. But the rational part of my brain knew that at a place like Sylk, I would not be covered in excess spray tan. Since it was my first one, the technician's policy was to use the lightest possible tone, which was fine with me. She used an airbrush to apply the tan so it was even and subtle, and didn't feel nearly as cold in my skin as I thought it would. I followed all of the instructions and the tan naturally faded over the course of about three weeks. Bottom (tan) line? I'd do it again in a heartbeat, especially at Sylk. Treatment number three: an overwhelming success.
Some things to note if you are new to Sylk: appointments book up incredibly fast. The real reason I ended up with the spray tan was because there were no other available treatments at the time. While I'm happy with the results, keep in mind that they are a small facility and don't have a ton of available appointments. Book in advance!
I will happily recommend Sylk to anyone looking for the spa experience at a somewhat lower price than most places. If you're unsure of the spray tan, go for it! If you plan accordingly with your expectations at a reasonable level, you won't be disappointed with your experience at Sylk. read more
