Dr. Campbell at Symphony Vet has been caring for our dog Otis, a Boston Terrier, for almost 10 years now. Otis receives wonderful care from Dr. Campbell, and when she is not available, Dr. Levinson, who is equally professional. The vets respect our time and follow up quickly to our e-mails and phone calls. This year, Otis was diagnosed with Lymphoma and then quickly after that, diabetes. The care and concern for our dog at Symphony Vet has been exemplary. Otis' Lymphoma is being managed with chemotherapy treatments and they are controlling his diabetes by prescribing insulin shots and glucose monitoring. And we understand as responsible pet owners, it's our job to follow through with the treatments, monitoring and medication - and they help that management with their quick follow up to questions and guidance. I completely trust their expertise and knowledge in both these areas. We've been going to Symphony since our dog was a puppy--seven years! We love the vets and feel in great hands there. Our dog needed minor surgery when he was six months old and Dr. Campbell did an excellent job. She was also very communicative and easy to reach during the whole process. The docs know all their dogs by name (don't know any cat owners who go there so I can't vouch). And the front office staff is efficient and kind. And they will take the extra steps when helping solve problems with online pharma services and pet insurance etc. Yes, it's expensive but you get what you pay for. read more

I just got back from this place and was hesitant to take my cat to the vet for fear they would say he needed a slew of vaccines and treatments that he didn't really need. This place wasn't like that at all. The Facility was lovely and the women at the front desk were so kind you could tell they really cared. The doctor I saw gently examined my cat and showed me how to clean his ears and just walked me through everything. It wasn't overly expensive and an overall pleasant experience. I will definitely be taking my cat here again and just feel so relieved that I found a vet I can confidently use. read more

This vet practice is simply awful from the doctors (especially Schoenhut) to the front desk. Weeks ago Dr. Schoenhut said my dog's records were sent out to me. Today, the front desk said it was being done today. This has been going on for months. They are simply inept, incompetent and I'd never trust them with my dog or my worst enemy's dog. I've written other reviews detailing the poor quality of care but don't feel like repeating myself. Save yourself and your pet a lot of aggravation and stay away! This veterinary clinic has honestly really disappointed me lately. My cat was prescribed special food as she literally scratches her skin off due to allergies to regular food. In order to keep her on this diet that already costs me close to $100 a month they need to "view" her to renew it. I have called and explained I can't just bring her in for a quick look over as she is a rescue cat that has a traumatic past and will throw up and hide for days after leaving her home. I requested if we could please zoom if it's just a "viewing" (they've never taken blood work or anything to prescribe this)-they refused. I asked someone to please get back to me as I need this prescription filled otherwise what will my cat eat?-no one did. This vet prefers she goes back to regular food and ends up hurting herself than refilling her prescription. I even offered to pay anything if it was a case of money (it seems to be that's all they care about lately). Now my cats year long progress has to be halted and I have to watch my cat in pain and wait three weeks for an in home appointment. I think if you are a vet you should go into the business because you actually care about animals and their well-being. Us owners do and I think that's all we really want in a vet. I wouldn't trust this place with my animals anymore as it has seriously deteriorated. read more

THANK GOD for Symphony Vet Center!!!! They were able to see my baby Callisto who was yowling in pain when she urinated and went in and out of the litter box 10 times that morning. They have uber convenient operating hours (until 7 PM on the weekdays and they are open on weekends). I think I saw Dr. Campbell who immediately prescribed some penicillin for my girl since she is only 3 yrs old and I explained that I was aggressively wiping her diarrhea-stained butthole a couple days ago. I took a picture of the red-tinted pee (which happened to be in my bathtub) with my iPhone and Dr. Campbell was comfortable enough to diagnose her without layering a variety of diagnostic tests with their associated fees. Overall the visit + meds was $110. So EXTREMELY affordable overall. The emergency availability booked by the front desk is PRICELESS. In contrast, Blue Pearl, which is the pet ER is $170 just for the visit. The lady who answered the call (Vicki?) was INCREDIBLY helpful. She encouraged me to get the records from Vinegar Hill Veterinary faxed over and to come prepared with a pee sample. She suggested I corner Callisto away from the litter box if possible. When I called later in the afternoon to confirm the visit, she asked how Callisto was doing and immediately updated me that they hadn't received the records from Vinegar Hill and encouraged me to call them again. Super helpful, caring, alert, and not dismissive or too-busy AT ALL. One knock is that I found the actual checkup somewhat cursory or quick. Maybe it's because the Dr. didn't provide feedback on the temp and body weight (because there was nothing abnormal to report?). Lastly, they didn't ask if I wanted to get her rabies shot up to date (which i knew was expired). But then again, she's an indoor cat. Sometimes I question how useful a rabies shot is for a city cat who never goes outside. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a revenue-incentive at play rather than it being a true necessity. We have been taking our pets to this place for more than 10 years. The incompetence and nonchalant attitudes never ceases to amaze me here. All this perception on how they care about your pets is nonsense. My cat needed a prescription diet from Chewy due to kidney issues. It had been a week and Symphony Vet had not yet send the prescription. When calling to following, I was told, "we'll get to it when we get to it". Really? Classy. Please don't pretend that you care about our pets or your customers when all we are to you are money trees that you pick from. read more

What an amazing vet center. We've dealt with two different vets at Symphony (Dr. Campbell and Dr. Chapman) and both are incredibly caring and patient with us and our pup, Beverly. When other vets we have used in the past never had time for us, never explained things to us, Symphony makes sure you feel like your pet is their most important patient. They return phone calls in a reasonable amount of time and take as much time as is needed explaining any condition your pet has or the best way to treat it. We see Dr. Chapman and she is such a great vet. She always calms us whenever we bring our dog in and she has such a practical approach to treating pets. She doesn't throw medicine and unnecessary tests at you. Her treatment of our pup has always been right and we didn't have to do expensive tests or give her unnecessary meds for every condition we brought to Dr. Chapman's attention. You'd also think that since Symphony Vet is Dr. Campbell's practice, she wouldn't bother to make time to speak with people (especially new ones to the center). But she once spent 30 minutes on the phone with my wife going over a condition with our pup just to make sure we were at ease and to make sure we understood the best way to treat our pup. We can't say enough about how appreciative we were for this. The rest of the staff is also fantastic. Everyone is nice and respectful and you can tell they are all pet lovers. I didn't want to use this forum to talk negatively about other vets but after some of the experiences we had, we are so incredibly thankful that Symphony exists. With respect to cost, Symphony is on par with any other vet center. We don't find them expensive (for the city) and they don't do a ton of tests just for the sake of doing tests, so you don't get high bills. You know that whatever you were billed for was truly necessary. I can't speak highly enough about our experience at Symphony. It's a great vet center. read more

Symphony Vet has a lovely front desk staff, courteous and professional. The facilitiesd are new, clean and stellar. Whats up with the vets? The vets are mediocre and if your animal is really sick I would not- would NOT take it here. Gotham is right around the corner, and every vet there is fully competent. Symphony is capable of basic vetting. And I'd say that's it. In 2018 I will continue to say there is a new vet every time you go there- and they are per diem vets who are CLEARLY green. This says to me they do not pay enough for a good vet to stay on staff. What vet gives a sick cat a rabies shot. Or an FVRCP for that matter. That's vet school 101. I'm disgusted. read more

I really love and appreciate this vet. They've always been speedy and professional and helpful when I've visited with my dog. What I appreciate the most is that when I called earlier this year from across the country- upset after my dog had been bitten- they were incredibly helpful over the phone both giving me the advice I needed as well as the emotional support. Prices definitely are on the higher side but they don't seem arbitrarily high for no reason. Instead the higher price comes with really great service. read more

Would give zero stars if possible. We walked in after our dog was bitten in Central Park by another dog. Julio at the front desk did not even look up from his tablet and told us right away they had no available appointments and there was no chance for a vet to see us. All this without even taking a look at the massive, bleeding bite wound and without so much as double checking with the vet. He seemed to be more concerned with the tv show on his iPad than showing any kind of empathy. It's hard to believe this guy works in a profession that cares for animals. We were terrified for our dog and Julio was acting like the most heartless human being we could have come in contact with. We ran out of that practice and quickly headed to Gotham Vet Center where we had a completely different experience. They took us in right away, even though they didn't have an available appointment for the next couple of hours, and recognized that it was a real emergency. The vet squeezed us in and she quickly and efficiently took care of our dog and we left feeling absolutely relieved with a happy healthy pup. We never got to meet the vet at Symphony, but with Julio at the front desk, we don't even want to. I can't imagine an animal care facility that would ever hire a guy who cares so little about other people and their pets. When I visited, they placed me with a non in house veterinarian and she was nice. I had to schedule a follow up visit to run some blood test for my dog. I was told by the front desk staff that it would only cost around $40 cause I wasn't seeing a vet but was just getting blood work done. Also, one of the girls at the front desk is pretty ditzy, constantly gives incorrect information and halfway through my transaction she starts talking with another vet about helping her with a project. I had to reel her back in and remind her that I didn't pay yet. On my second visit I met with dr. Levison and I asked her some questions about spots I was seeing on my dog. She disregarded it and said it was not related and wouldn't even look at it. All she did was do the blood work and that's it. When I went to check out they ended up charging me $160. They charged me for an actual visit and blood work even though she refused to answer the question I had! Would not recommend this place due to the Incompetency and lack of care from the staff I encountered. read more

My rescue dog Marcy has been seeing Dr Levison for the past 7 months and I could not be happier with her, and the entire Symphony Vet team. We've been through a lot together: from a skin infection, a botched spay (she was a rescue and did not get the best care prior to her rescue) and a host of other issues. A few months ago Marcy was diagnosed with a cancerous mast cell tumor, which is super rare in a young dog (she is 3). The professionalism and care that she and the entire team exhibited to both my dog and me was just short of amazing. When she delivered the news that the tumor was cancerous, she consoled me as I cried on the phone, and repeated herself several times to make sure I understood that 1) it wasn't a death sentence and 2) the treatment recommendation. She is an awesome vet and genuinely cares about my dog, I wish I could find a GP for myself who is just like her! Why I love Symphony Vet: Dr L. has never subjected my dog to unnecessary tests (no inflated vet bills, unlike another place I went to..) yet is incredibly thorough; she is an AMAZING VET when she performed the surgery to remove my dog's tumor, she did an awesome job and was able to get a VERY wide margin, on a very tricky area; she answers her emails promptly and has answered a myriad of questions from the mundane like "is it safe for me to jog with my dog" to whether I should bring my dog into her office. Her entire office is caring and knowledgeable from the receptionist, to the vet techs, to Dr. L! Symphony Vet (and Dr. L) are just awesome! And Marcy is currently cancer free :) I seriously adore Dr L and the entire office. If you are in the market for a vet I cannot recommend them enough!! read more

I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience has been with Symphony. We've been bringing our dog Bear in for his checkups and vaccines for nearly 5 years and have brought our new Puppy Bo in as well. Bear is an older dog with some major issues over the past six months or so and they have handled these issues with grace and love. Our vet, Dr Venezia followed up with us after an emergency just to find out how Bear was doing. She clearly cares about her patients and their owners! The staff in front loves to see the boys when they come in! We recommend all of our friends, and clients (we own a dog walking service - MixyPaws) to them. Fantastic people! read more

CONSUMERS BEWARE !!!! Ask for an itemized bill before handing your card over so you don't pay for unnecessary services as this place is MONEY DRIVEN. I've dealt with places like this before so I came in explaining exactly what service I wanted done and somehow they were still able to charge me for a whole bunch of unwarranted and unnecessary. Also if your dog needs shots or vaccines you can get them done for way cheaper then this place let me tell you I feel like I got scammed here. Not only that when I finally called a 3rd time to speak to a manager she assumed the reason I was calling for a refund was because I couldn't afford it TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL but I guess good help is still hard to find since the pandemic and it clearly shows DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO to GOTHAM VET it's just a block up and the staff is friendly helpful and only concerns are helping the animals get better not their pockets getting bigger !!! read more

I usually have my cats taken care of by a friend when I go on trips but I decided to board my cat this time because he had an eye infection, so he needed medicine administered 4 times a day. While they did administer the medicine, my cat came back with frayed and bloody nails, presumably from scratching and clawing at the cage due to stress. I was not shown what the boarding conditions were like but due to the state he was in when given back I can only assume they were less than optimal and that he was left alone except for when having medicine administered. He also smelled like feces and has been incredibly stressed since coming home. I do not recommend boarding any animals here. read more

If I could give NO STARS, I would have. But, Yelp requires at least 1. Waited 1 hour for a vet appointment for my sick rescue dog; even asked what was going on at the 20-25 min wait time, 35 min wait time, etc. Then, went for a walk and asked them to call or text me back. They did so, I rushed back (was just on the street) and then waited another 20 min. Asked at desk and interrupted their discussion on food prep. They went back to get the doctor and I never saw them again. Left after an hour. No one called to apologize. They said they had an prior appoint X-rays but, they should have kept me posted, called before to say the were running late, etc. or let me know that it would be a while. I appreciate emergencies happen but not fair to leave people waiting for an hour and say, doctor will be right there and no one even shows up. Very disappointing. And, they never even called to apologize. Oh, they did say, it didn't matter how long since no appointments were after me; the fact that I have work and didn't have all day and that's why I made an appointment seemed not to matter. read more

I have used this vet for years and while I find their services adequate their service is non existent. I called beforehand to set up my rabies shot. While on the phone I asked how much everything would cost and I was quoted 43 dollars. My husband took our pup in and tacked on an extra 92 dollars for a consult despite the fact we had been consulted less than three months before. When I questioned this practice I was given the run around and never contacted by anyone with the authority to address the issue. I spoke to a receptionist the day of waited for a call back never received one. When I called back reminding them I was waiting I got attitude and was told they were not going to help me. The girls name was Reina. She was rude and dismissive and said someone would call back and still no one ever did. I won't be going back. read more

They over-treated my beautiful cat who died prematurely of complications from diabetes treatment. The thousands of dollars I spent did nothing but cause more suffering. They also neglected to refer me to the feline diabetes specialist a few blocks away. I had to euthanize my best friend which, of course, cost several hundred more dollars. After going to Symphony Vet for the last 7 years, I would never go anywhere else in NYC for my pet's medical needs. They are hands down, the best and most caring veterinary practice in Manhattan. My husband and I had our cat Betty for 7 and a half years. We adopted her from "A Cause For Paws" and she had been fostered at Symphony Vet, so we felt comfortable taking her back here for her annual checkups. Dr. Campbell as well as all of the other doctors always gave us the best medical care and their undivided attention each time we brought Betty in. Their "bedside" manner towards pet parents is amazing. The entire staff is caring and friendly. You can tell how devoted they are to animals here. You also never feel rushed when you bring your pet in - each vet we've had here takes their time when examining your pet and also takes the time to explain everything to you in detail. Immediately when you walk in to the office, you get a sense of calm and order here. The waiting room is welcoming and never overcrowded. Unfortunately, our poor little Betty was diagnosed with renal failure this past March and we had to say goodbye to her in May. Before we put her to sleep, we tried to improve her health by keeping her at Symphony for a few days for treatment. The entire time she was there (even over the weekend), the vet (Dr. Levison) called me several times a day with an update on Betty's stats. When I called to check on her, Dr. Levison either spoke with me immediately or called me back as soon as she could. Again, she was so thorough in explaining everything and had the kindest "bedside' manner. When it was time to let Betty go, we brought her back to be euthanized. My husband and I were a mess. I can't imagine having to have gone anywhere else to do this. The staff here were so sympathetic and comforting. I don't know what I would have done without their support. They were so helpful and made all the arrangements for cremation, etc. as well. I know I'll eventually adopt another cat (or maybe two this time!) and when I do, I know that I'll be going right back to Symphony Vet. I can't thank them enough for all their years of devotion and great care. read more

Our dog has been going here for about 2 years, and loves it. She gets really excited whenever we visit. All of our dog friends go here. The doctors are all very nice and knowledgeable, and were really accommodating with a walk-in emergency visit recently. They know their stuff, they have a good bedside manner, and, best of all, they're open on Saturday and Sunday. The one disappointing thing is that I don't always get our "primary" vet for appointments, even when we ask for her. But I like everyone we've seen so far... Also, it ain't cheap - but neither are rents on the Upper West Side. read more

You won't find a better vet for bunnies in the NYC area (including the doctor in Dobbs Ferry, forgot his name). I had a chronically ill bunny for several years, and during that time we went to many vets, including those that have a reputation for seeing exotics, and this was the only one that actually seemed passionate and knowledgeable about the intricacies of bunny health. I would never dream of taking a rabbit anywhere else. The doctors that see rabbits are wonderful. But if you have a cat or dog, there's really nothing remarkable here for you. Wouldn't recommend going out of your way for cat or dog treatment to come here. If they're your local vet though, that's fine. read more

It's a real stroke of luck that Symphony Vet treats exotic pets (in our case, guinea pigs) since they're just two blocks away from our apartment. It's surprisingly hard to find vets who will treat guinea pigs in NYC, so having Symphony so close is a real boon to us. We've brought both pigs in and find Dr. Levison to be a very easygoing and helpful doctor. One of our pigs actually became low-key famous in the office for having hay stuck up her nose -- this is less common in guinea pigs than you'd think. Initially she was misdiagnosed with a bacterial infection, but given the apparent extreme rarity of nasal occlusions in guinea pigs, we don't hold it against Symphony. We came back for a follow up when she didn't seem to be getting better, Dr. Levison yanked out the piece of hay, and our girl was back to normal. read more

Had an extremely positive experience here and thought I would come here to say "thanks". My small dog ("Cody") got into a little scuffle at the 72nd dog run. It appeared that he ripped his dew claw and I didn't know what to do. I called Symphony Vet and they said to bring him in, and they gave me an appointment that day. They have a very nice and convenient space. Dr. Ma saw Cody quickly, cut off the torn nail, and gave me expert advice and patiently answered my questions. And then she gave Cody a treat. My Husband's Boxer dog, Hannah, has been a patient of Symphony Vet Center for 8 years now. I am super happy that we chose Symphony as our vet because they take such GREAT care of all of their animals. Customer service has also been superb= including things like confirmation calls for vet appointments and an easy check in process. Now that we have a second dog, it is a no brainer that we will continue to visit Symphony! Hannah met with Dr. Bruck, Dr. Levinson and newly Dr. Seggerman. All of the Vet's are great options here- they take great care of your Fur-babies and won't take advantage of you. Dr. Bruck left this practice, but wherever she is, I would wholeheartedly recommend her too! I absolutely love that they entertain my millions of questions. Always a big plus as a new dog-parent/owner. We have been through everything with Symphony: everything from annuals, shots, found-a-bump-freaked-out-phone-calls, UTI issues, eye issues.. yeah. And each step of the way, Symphony was patient, supportive, understanding and gave us a comprehensive understanding of what is going on with our pet-care. We love Symphony. So should you! read more

I'd give this place 4.5 stars if I could, but due to high pricing I'll stick with 4. All those 4 stars are thanks to the support and care of the entire staff. I had taken my dog Bridget there several times over the course of a couple years and always received good care, but then the sh*t really came down last year when Bridget got very ill very quickly and the only solution was to have her put to sleep. This entire situation unfolded over the course of just about two hours so it was very sudden and horrible, but the vet and staff were so gentle and compassionate that I can only commend them. Bridget was an older dog but I hadn't expected things to go wrong so suddenly...and though I left that day a complete wreck, I appreciated the way they handled it. This became even more true when I received a hand-written card in the mail from the vet I had dealt with (whose name unfortunately escapes me right now) saying she was sorry for the loss of my pet but that in those circumstances, she felt it was the right decision. Her taking the time to do that was very kind, and I really appreciate them taking that extra step. I've since gotten another dog, Penny, and taken her there twice for her annuals. I've met with Dr. Bruck both those times, and she's very friendly and great with Penny. The reception staff is friendly though not very chatty, but they do the standard reminder calls which is helpful. There really can be a bit of sticker shock from each visit, so I wish they were not quite so expensive. But because I know the level of care I'll receive and feel like the doctors really care about my pets, I'll keep returning. read more

I have been to Symphony Vet for about 4 years, because it is only two blocks from my apartment, and my bulldog doesn't like to walk far.. and each time I go, I say that I am not going to go again, but always end up there (since I am usually an emergency appointment person - dog with bad back. )There was this FABULOUS vet there, Dr. Martin, but I learned she returned to Europe, and now, whomever I see, I am equally dissappointed. My dogs were vaccinated at Symphony Vet 3 years ago and the very next day, my 2 year old french bulldog ruptured a disk (while midair running). NOTE THi sis one day after a clean checkup at Symphony Vet. Symphony Vet's fault? Of course not. But then two year's later, the very day after my other dog (4 years old) was vaccinated at Symphony Vet, ruptured a disk in HER back. Coincidence? Everyone at Symphony Vet, and I, think yes. HOWEVER, I started asking that my dogs not be taken into a back room at Symphony Vet for blood, shots, anal gland expression, and Symphony Vet since I had a hunch the dogs were getting stressed being pinned down back there without their owner. Symphony Vet said that unless I pay for a full appointments ($150), the dog must be taken from me and to the back room to have again, gross, anal gland expressed, and bloodwork, etc. each time, which is quite often. They are a business, not what you typically want to think of for your vet. And each time my husband or I think of going back there, I say to him, after what happened to BOTH of our dogs after getting checkups there, would you EVER think of bringing your child back to such a place? read more

My dog Mandy was a patient here for most of her life, until she died April 2012. We always saw Dr. Campbell and she was always kind to both of us and took time to answer all my questions, and I considered Mandy my child. Over the years I sent many friends to her with their pets and they were always pleased with the care. Dr. Campbell understood how important my Beagle girl was to me. She's been gone a year now & I'm still grieving. If I do get another dog I will certainly go back to Dr. Campbell. read more

OK, I will let you decide. Picture this, it is a beautiful day. You are playing catch with your delightful canine daughter in Riverside Park. The sun is shining, the breeze, heavenly. You toss the ball, she jumps to catch it. She lands badly and hurts her leg. She can only use three legs to walk. Your baby is in pain, and so you are in pain. The closest place to take her is SYMPHONY VET CENTER. You get there as soon as you can. The cold, aloof DR. offers no help. She refuses take an X-RAY, to see if your baby broke her leg, or if there is any other issues that may need to be addressed. The DR ( it pains me to refer to her as one), does not know what is wrong, and tells you to wait a week or so and see what happens, oh and if she is in pain, give her a pill! One of the meanings of symphony is: 1.Something characterized by a harmonious combination of elements. I would say that this place is more "out of tune", then in harmony. And that they are very good at turning a "deaf ear" to our furry family. What do you think? read more

Dr. Campbell is amazing. We took our dog there when we lived in New York, I never gotten the chance to thank her for her service while we were there. We had since moved but I had just recently email her for advice and she answered right away. It's very hard to find a good veterinarian that gives an honest diagnosis. What I love about her is her honesty and genuine interest to help, not to make money from every patient that goes in. It's sad that the industry has become that way but an honest doctor seriously makes a big difference. If I still live in New York we would still be choosing Symphony Vet! She gave us the right treatments when our dog needed it and was never excessive with tests he didn't need. What's better is her caring attitude towards our pet post treatment. Dr. Rebecca Campbell has been looking after our 12+ year old miniature schnauzer - Carrie for over 8 years. Throughout that time she has been the most caring, understanding and helpful veterinarian that we have ever experienced in over 30 years of owning small animals in the USA & England. She has always gone the extra mile for us with the utmost empathy & going above and beyond the requirements of her role. If we had paid for all the hours that Dr. Campbell had spent with us over the past 5 years in particular, then we would have been in the bankruptcy court. She is so knowledgeable and really concerned for your animals' health, she has been available to call us hours after surgery has finished and to take up issues with our pet insurance company which she had no need to do. We think a 30 minute consultation is very unusual & the fee structure is more than fair. Her advice has always been focused and relevant to the multitude of problems that our sweet dog has suffered with her gastro intestinal tract - spleen, liver, pancreas et. al. Despite our being prepared to consider giving up on our Carrie, Dr. Campbell has helped us through the worst times and thanks to her Carrie is still alive & fighting now. Dr. Levinson has also been most helpful and knowledgeable about our dog's condition in Dr. Campbell's absence and we are most appreciative of that. The office & veterinarian staff are always very pleasant, pass on messages promptly and do all they can for patients - human & animal. Thanks goodness for Symphony Vet.
