I've lived in Columbus circle all my life, I've seen this vet hospital for years. Not many people go there and if they do it's for pure convenience! They open when they want, have files all over the place not to mention, Dr. Walsh needs to hang it up and retire! This woman can barely see let alone diagnose a dog properly. Took my dog to cut his nails once and she was on a walker, couldn't even stand not sure how she still has any clients but the little she has, she milks to pay for the expensive rent. My father took my beloved 16 year old Yorkie to Dr. Walsh with concerns about the itching that ensued and became bloody, she deemed it as allergies and sent him on his merry way with a sensitive skin shampoo for dogs and gave him 3 vaccines (unrelated she figured might as well since he was due), a whopping $400 bill she had no problem charging. Come to find out my poor dog had a tick infestation, bumps my father had initially called out to her and the whole reason he brought him for a checkup. After weeks of using this shampoo she sold us, my parents only found out because they started seeing small bugs everywhere around the apartment which had never been seen before as he is a house dog and doesn't go for walks; he doesn't play with other dogs as he is anxious and attached to my parents. My poor dog had been suffering this whole time, so I called her office to see what can be done and how she could help given she should've caught this weeks ago- the initial appointment was July 24th. Instead of taking some accountability for the quite obvious oversight she doubled down and proceeded to gas light us, asking if we have been hiking and that he likely got it from the park ... AGAIN HE IS A HOUSE DOG! Which she knows because she's cut his nails several times and always comments on how soft his paw pads are, again because he is and has always been a house dog.... She proceeded to pick at the few ticks he had left all to confirm he had ticks, the solution she provided? Make an appointment with her. I wouldn't make an appointment with her to save my life! She is the absolute worst vet ever, she is long overdue for retirement. Please please please, spend your money elsewhere, save your time, money and save your PET! Go to a real vet, Bond Vet, Midtown Pet Hospital or Rivergate Pet Clinic- any other but this one! You'll likely pay the same but at least you'll get actual treatments and a resolution as well as an educated and professional vet that knows how to properly care for your pets and isn't just about dollar signs. This is not to say she gave him ticks because she didn't, but she absolutely could have done a thorough check and caught it earlier so he wouldn't have suffered as long and as much as he did, she didn't care, no sympathy just a lot of questions trying to place blame everywhere else but herself. I would've appreciated her more had she just taken accountability and made it right, given she has seen our dog mostly for his nails whilst knowing his history of him being a house dog; none of this was of concern to her she saw another walk in and potential dollar signs. She also saw our address and was "huh, you guys live across the street?" It was like Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob, dollar signs across her eyes. Never again. Don't recommend taking your pet here. Why? One vet seems scared and isn't well equipped to handle every type of dog. 2) I was once 10 min late as it was my first week at my new job. I explained and called and said I'd be late, upon arrival they were so rude and told me they wouldn't treat me anymore if I came late again. Every other time I've went after they've been late themselves, sometimes more than 15 min. Not to mention the fact that after 5 years they're still forcing everyone and anyone to wear a mask even if they step inside to drop something off (mental illness is real) and they also lied about pricing. Total scam business that doesn't honors its word. After being a client for a few years and bringing several of my dogs you'd think that if they told you "hey we won't charge you an exam fee next time bc we weren't able to examine your dog" they'd honor that but no. If I could give no stars, I would. Having had dogs for over twenty years in NYC, this practice is the most unprofessional, discourteous, and irresponsible veterinary practice I have experienced. When I recently contacted Columbus Circle Veterinary Hospital to schedule an emergency x-ray for my dog, who was a patient of this practice, explaining that he had been brought to an emergency vet hospital with a potential life-threatening neurological disease the day prior, the practice refused to provide an emergency appointment and advised that I would have to wait 4 days. My dog ended up passing away the following day. When I called up several days later to have my other dog's medical records transferred to another vet, Dr. Walsh's husband, Richard, who works at the front desk, yelled at me and answered me in the most offensive, sarcastic, and rude manner. When I asked Richard why he was speaking to me that way, he told me that his yelling and sarcastic tone with me was entirely appropriate. Walking by the practice a few days later, I could feel someone staring at me. Richard was standing outside the practice, glaring at me in a menacing manner. I don't normally write reviews, but I feel very compelled to write one on behalf of Dr. Walsh at Columbus Circle Veterinary Hospital. Our fur babies have been going to her for the past 10+ years and we have zero complaints. She was always accommodating when we needed them to be seen last minute, she didn't try to charge us anything that wasn't necessary and was always very knowledgeable when it comes to animals. But the real value was in our fur babies final days, when she showed so much empathy, compassion and was honest with us about what they needed. Some vets treat everyone as a transaction, but she truly CARES about the animals and the families. I will never forget her hugs and shared tears when I had to say goodbye to our little Leo. It's true. My little dog is a tramp. She sluts it up on the streets, in the parks and on her walks. Because of her slutty ways, she picked up a doggy STD. Okay, okay, maybe it's not a traditional STD, but she did contract the doggy HPV virus from another dog. I took my pooch into Columbus Circle Veterinary Hospital because I noticed a large growth on her paw. Of course I thought it was a tumor, but Dr. Walsh assured me it was just a plain ol' wart. I really liked this place because Dr. Walsh is the only Dr. that works there. We sat in the exam room for at least 20 minutes while she played with Zoey and examined her. She asked a million questions about her diet and exercise. The prices weren't too crazy. Definitely expensive, but not out of line with other vets. I generally take Zoey to the Humane Society for her annual visit and shots, but for emergency needs, I will be returning here. I called and got an appointment the next day, it's 4 blocks from where I live, I was seen immediately and the vet was super friendly. Unfortunately, at the Humane Society, you have to wait about 3 weeks for an appointment and when you go in, you generally have to wait about an hour to be seen. read more

Their customer service guy is rude , telling us they only use fax machine when I requested the records to be email. This was our second time with this vet. And a very bad experience. This Vet office is so lovely. Dr. Walsh is super knowledgeable and so sweet with my dog. They always find a way to accommodate me when my dog has an unexpected issue. Dr. Walsh has been my older dog's vet for about 9 years, and I literally trust her with his life because he has a heart condition. She is most knowledgeable, caring, and takes as much time as necessary - never rushed. Her husband Richard has handled the Desk since March 2000, and I find him welcoming, efficient and generally delightful. Always polite. I've read the negative commentary about him and I find it incomprehensible. True, their records are not "automated" but I'm more concerned about the quality of care, which has been outstanding for both my dogs. read more

Avoid this veterinary "practice"! Dr. Maureen T. Walsh is not only inept as a business owner because she cannot manager her staff or be bothered to clean the facility (it's DISGUSTING), her behavior smacks of criminal negligence and illegal activity. One of our dogs is on a behavior modification treatment using medication and training. The doctor was really nice and accommodating during our first visit...almost too much. And now we know why. Dr. Walsh seemed to be a little forgetful during our initial appointment, having to constantly remind her that the dog was a male, that he needed medication to continue the regimen and that he had separation anxiety. She actually needed to pull out a PDR SEVERAL times to reference medication that she, admittedly, had ZERO experience with. Wow...if you don't understand a medication, DON'T prescribe it! We brushed this off, mistakenly, as perhaps she was having a bad day like many of us do. Flash forward a couple of months when our little one needed a medication refill. The drug companies pulled many of the medications our dog was applicable for off of the market due to increased costs from ObamaCare, so we asked Dr. Walsh to explore alternatives because our dog's medication went from $50 to $2000. At the time, she could not have been nicer. Then the reality set in that we have read about on Yelp from other patients' parents. We literally had to call 12 times in 48 hours to get a refill, being assured every time by the "receptionist" that we were a top priority. Yeah, more calls fell on deaf ears. We then determined that 800-PetMeds had enough of the medication to ween our dog off which would give us time to find a different medication for him. We asked Dr. Walsh to approve a prescription. Well, that didn't happen for THREE days. 800-PetMeds contacted us telling us that they were waiting for the Doctor to approve the prescription and that it would be five days before they could even send it at the rate the approval was happening. A few days in without any medication, and no call from Dr. Walsh or approval sent to 800-PetMeds. Our dog's behavior and physical demeanor then changed. He started to have diarrhea, then began acting out. He has been very uncomfortable ever since. Thankfully we have an appointment with a new vet that was recommended by SEVERAL patients of his. Despite endless promises, our dog was left without his medication for FIVE days. Dr. Walsh FINALLY bothered to call us back after being threatened with a lawsuit to only give us endless excuses. She then stated that it was our fault for not calling, even though we know she was FULLY aware that we had been reaching out to her (we could hear her in the background on one of the calls saying she'll call to the receptionist). She then changed her story stating that they approved the prescription the first day asked. We have the record from 800-PetMeds that states she was three days late in approving. Dr. Walsh claimed that her practice had done everything to help. She blamed everyone from 800-PetMeds to us to the fact that she is so busy. Are you kidding me? That's your job...to provide medical care to pets! She then hung up on my wife (who is the last person on Earth you would consider hanging up on because she is SUCH a nice person). According to everyone we have spoken with, our dog will be okay, but it will be a long road back to the progress we made in his regimen. And having watched him suffer for these last five days has just been heartbreaking because we know he doesn't understand why he feels the way he does. It's bad enough that he has the runs because of this, but to then be upset because he was literally cut off his medication cold-turkey is unacceptable. Needless to say, legal action is being pursued and we are telling everyone we can about how horrible this doctor is. Whatever you do, no matter the emergency, recommendation from people in the neighborhood, or any other recommendation, avoid Dr. Walsh. She could very well end up killing your pet due to gross negligence given her disorganization, lack of responsibility, mismanagement of her practice, and temper-tantrum type behavior. read more

I signed up for Yelp just so I could write a review on this place. Dr. Walsh overcharges like crazy and is completely dishonest about it! We went here because we live right near the vet. Bad mistake. Our dog had diarrhea for about five days, so we took him in. Stool test came back negative, but she insisted on doing one of her own tests, which was $50 just to stick her finger up the you know what, then she insisted on another stool test, which was another $100. $250 later the conclusion was nothing was wrong. Diarrhea went away by itself in a couple days. Went to get dog neutered, was quoted a certain price, neutering went through no problem. Little did we know Dr. Walsh decided to pull some teeth from our dog without asking us! When I asked her why the bill was more than $500 she berated us for asking. Dr. Walsh is extremely cold and just not someone you want taking care of your pet. It's a shame, because the rest of the staff is extremely warm and accomodating. Pet lovers do not go here! I was planning on traveling with my dog abroad and I informed Dr Walsh 3 months in advance to get my pet micro shipped. We scheduled another appointment a week before my departure to pick up the health certificate when Dr Walsh said that she failed to give my dog a vaccination after the micro ship which was important for my vacation. I have to downgrade my rating due to the fact that repeated attempts to obtain copies of my dog's medical records have proven futile. Over a span of 6+ months, I have requested faxed and mailed copies and have given different viable fax numbers, all to no avail. Don't be fooled--each time, the person answering the phone acts like the records will go out, and then will claim that they were sent out when you follow up! I LOVE Dr. Walsh. She is extraordinarily smart, kind, caring, professional, sympathetic, gentle, I could go on and on. My kitty of 18 years is my baby. I am VERY sensitive to how he is treated and cared for by a veterinarian. I have been to many vets, and Dr. Walsh is the BEST. She treats my kitty as if he were her own pet. She is gentle and NEVER rushes the appointment, no matter how busy she is. Truly a gem. Her diagnosis is always dead on. I made the mistake of taking my cat to the ASPCA in an attempt to save money. Not only did they NOT fix his illness, they charged me MUCH more than I would have paid at Dr. Walsh's! Needless to say I learned my lesson and ran back to Dr. Walsh who promptly restored my kitty to health, and charged me a FRACTION of what the ASPCA did. Dr. Walsh is hands down the best vet I've ever used! She is so sweet and good with my dog. Most of my other dogs have always hated going to the vet, but my dog loves going to visit Dr. Walsh. All of her employees are also so nice and helpful. My dog recently broke her leg and Dr Walsh was so helpful keeping both the dog and me calm and comfortable. Be very careful going to this vet, she is careless and irresponsible in my case she almost killed my cat. I have an older female cat, that up till Feb 2014 had no real physical issues, in fact she was extremely lively and full of fun. On Feb 14, I took her to Dr. Maureen Walsh at the Columbus Circle Veterinary Hospital. The one an only reason was to have Dr. Walsh give her all the shots she would need for a cross county trip, nothing more. The one extra procedure that Dr. Walsh did was to shave off one are of knots very small knot. I did not ask her to use a shaver, as my experience with removing hair knots in the past were to use a blunted scissor safety proof. She cut my cat and pushed on her teeth saying she needed her teeth cleaned. The very next day my cat became sick to the point where I was so frightened, I took her right in on Feb15, to another vet who told me that the cut caused an infection. The new vet gave her a blood test and said she will need a antibiotic shot, which he gave her. I also showed him the paperwork Dr. Walsh gave me for my trip and he said it was inadequate and would have to be redone. Dr. Walsh is dangerous and I want to warn pet owner to please not go to her. My deal cat when through three weeks of illness and only after those three weeks did she pull through. I repete there was absolutely nothing wrong with my cat till I went to Dr. Walsh for her yearly regular shots. read more

I stopped going to Columbus Circle Veterinary because the way they run their office is impossible. When I took my dog to a new vet, Columbus Circle never sent the medical records they needed, even though every time I called (which was every day for weeks) they said they would send them right away. I had the same trouble having the medical records faxed to the pet insurance company, so I went into the office to get the records myself. The receptionist would not release the records to me and said the fax machine was broken so they couldn't send records this week. Have they never heard of Staples? No way to run a business and a waste of time for any pet owner. You literally have to make it your full time job to get them to do any standard office work. Medical bills are expensive and pet insurance means the world to me and my pet. I cannot have anyone dropping the ball on such a simple task. City Veterinary Care is around the corner on 72nd, has a lovely staff, and gets your paperwork sent off before the ink is even dry. read more

I want to be clear that before I write this, I don't believe I have ever written a review on Yelp before. However, as an animal lover and pet owner I felt the need to write this publicly to prevent you from taking your animals to this practice. While Dr. Walsh is pleasant and kind - she only acts that way when you're her client. Same goes for her staff. I can confirm that the practice itself is absolutely filthy. Dust everywhere, and it looks like it has not been cleaned properly and thoroughly in years. I originally took my pet there only for convenience and since my pet was so young, I felt I could find another vet later in my pets life. I was very wrong to do this and should have immediately switched vets. Please use my list below to learn from my mistakes. 1. Dr. Walsh attempted to double vaccinate my pet on multiple occasions because the way they keep their records is stuck in the 70s, and poorly maintain their files MANUALLY. 2. I can attest to those who say they pretend not to find your animals records when you want to switch vets. They did it to me over the course of two days. They magically found my records the next day. 3. When I asked for an email copy of my pets records the male receptionist told me no (since I switched vets). I was also told I couldn't speak to the vet in a nasty and condescending tone at Dr. Walsh's convenience. To be clear, Dr. Walsh's convenience is often a week later. 4. My pet was prescribed a medication no longer recommended to my specific pet. Dr. Walsh's knowledge of medicine is frankly out of date. There is no other way to say it. 5. I was pushed multiple services that are extremely over priced and not needed for my pet at the time. Call a neighboring vet, or anywhere else for that matter and take my word for it. 6. Twice they claimed my animal has not been at the practice for 3 years, when I knew (due to my own record keeping) that my pet was there approximately 14 months ago. They tried to use this an excuse to say "they put my pets records in the back of the office". 7. When my new vet called, they claimed to have no record of me, my last name, or my pet when I gave them all accurate information. The list can go on. Please do not take your animal there unless you enjoy being spoken to like an idiot. read more

Never had an issue with Dr. Walsh but her husband Richard is incredibly rude and stuck up. Fortunately I've never had to deal with him before as the reception ladies were always courteous but maybe its the Covid and he's out of a job and has to help around the clinic, god knows what the reason is but none of this is an excuse for poor manners in a customer facing capacity. I had been waiting patiently for a post-oral care product that is not available at any online outlets because it contains a restricted medicinal ingredient and after calling in my 5th time in 4 months, the said product was available but RIchard did not want to place it on hold nor ship it to me (via paid postage by me or via paid postmates by me)nor even provide the price so I could send a designate to pick-it up on my behalf. I reminded him that these are hard times for everybody and Dr. Walsh's dental cleaning bill for my dog in excess of $2000 was paid in good faith so that is no way to talk to a customer. I was very excited when I first found this vet. I just moved to NYC and have 2 mini dachshunds that are my pride and joy. One got VERY sick and thats when i learned very quickly that this is not the place for a sick animal. The staff and Dr are extremely friendly. They just don't have follow up skills. And to top it off they make no apologies for there bad response. The answer I was given 3 x's was. The Dr must have forgot as she went into surgery. Gee isn't that what support staff is all about. After talking with a real Vet I was told they have heard horror stories about this place. So if its just a quick shot or check up. You will love them. Dr. Walsh is fantastic! We adopted a 3 year old Shih Tzu who unfortunately got sick a day before our scheduled well visit. Dr. Walsh was able to squeeze us in within a few hours to care for our dog and was incredibly helpful. She listened and took the time to answer our numerous questions, essentially combining the well visit with the tummy troubles visit. She was great with our dog and seemed to truly care about her well being. Dr. Walsh even called us later in the day to see if we had any additional questions and to check on how our dog was doing. She very quickly figured out what was wrong with him with the minimal of tests. Dr. Walsh has an intelligence, knowledge and empathy that makes her a great vet. Her demeanor and approach harks back to a time when vets and vet offices were simply about caring for your pet. Every other vet visit in the neighborhood results in a large bill for simply walking in the door. If they can't figure out what is wrong without doing a million tests, then they are not a good vet. Is it possible to give a worse review than 1 star? If so I'd like to do it. At first Dr. Walsh seemed really sweet and carrying about my dog. We went to her many times for his check up and vaccinations. After spending over a thousand dollars on the aforementioned my dog sustained a serious injury. Dr. Walsh was no where to be found. When she finally got around to calling us back (after having left multiple voicemails and leaving messages with the receptionist over the course of 2 weeks) she eventually made time to see my dog. She had no sense of urgency for helping the dog, preceded to then misdiagnose the dog, told us to wait a month or two to "see what happens", and in the process over medicated my dog. To add insult to injury, Dr. Walsh over charged us and 'refused' give us our records so I could get a second opinion (a 2nd opinion that ultimately proved she had misdiagnosed my dog). Correct -- she refused. She said she doesn't 'work for me' and that she would not give me a copy of the record of xray. After taking my dog to another Dr. (a specialist), he confirmed that she was wrong with her entire diagnosis and treatment. I just went to Dr. Walsh for my girl dog, Molly, who seemed to have had a stroke or something 2 weeks ago. First, I went to my regular vet (a man I won't go back to) and he checked her blood and urine for 350 dollars, charged me 57 dollars for 14 antibiotic pills, then spent the rest of the time trying to sell me an MRI, for what he said would be 1000 bucks. I asked if he could treat her symtomatically, as I am in no position to spend 1000 dollars at the moment, and he flat out refused. I suspect he has some kind of kickback deal worked out with the MRI guy. Instead, I opted to get a second opinion and decided to go to Maureen Walsh, since I've been hearing about how great she is for years now, and now I wish I would have gone to her from the beginning. Unlike the shyster I've been seeing, Dr. Walsh actually spent real time with me and my dog, around 45 minutes (for 80 dollars, as opposed to the shyster, who charges 175 for a 20 minute exam). Then Dr. Walsh said she knew what it was, something called "vesticular syndrome," which usually occurs in much older dogs, (my girl is only around 4-5 years) but could also be from a pokey thyroid gland, which we will soon find out, as the tests for that are only 200 dollars...as opposed to 1000 and up for an MRI. Boy, am I relieved, both that my dog is fine, (vestiscular syndrome symptoms gradually dissapear and the dogs recover on their own) and for the financial disaster I narrowly averted by not listening to that first condescending creep of a money grubbing vet. Very few places get 5 stars, but I have to say, it was our first experience, and we were the last to be seen, and Dr. Walsh was lovely. She and her receptionist did everything they could do to calm our puppies down and all in all, great experience. Expensive yes, but hey this is NYC. read more
