Got a take out. Ordered 2 different chix combos. When I got there, no real menu to look at. Ordered anyway. Get home. Neither of the meals was marked, which was which?? The Chinese place we usually go to, does this. One of the meals was missing the sauce!!!!! A lot of rice, which was quite good. But the meal with the missing sauce was not so hot. Just a breaded piece of chix breast. Asked for a menu, to take home. They do not have any paper menus to take. A big NO NO for us. The food was ok. Nothing great. Stopped in today, Christmas! They were SWAMPED... carryout and dine-in. There was 1 waiter, doing a GREAT job. Including bussing the tables. One of the worst dining experiences I've had. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, and when it arrived, it looked completely burnt and had an overwhelmingly fishy smell--not fresh at all. We politely asked the server if we could send it back, but he flat-out refused. His response? "It tastes fishy because it's from the ocean," as if we didn't know any better. Extremely rude and condescending. To make matters worse, he wouldn't remove the dish from the table or from our bill, even though we didn't touch it after the first bite. The attitude was terrible, and the service was just as bad as the food. Avoid this place--shady service and an even worse attitude from the staff. read more

From placing my order over the phone, the super friendly service both on the phone and in-person, the inside being so clean, to the original looking decor, I'm a fan! Pleasant owners and great price Stopped going here years ago due to declining quality and service. Now they're under new management and they've done a 180. Ordered the Almond Chicken, came with a cup of soup and egg roll. Less than $9 before tax and tip. Downside is my iced tea was a third of the price of the meal. But that's 2023 for ya. I received my food via delivery so I can't speak on ambiance. I can say that wether you order General Tsos, lemon, or anything else it's ALL THE SAME they will slop the same sauce in EVERYTHING. Lim's Star doesn't have nearly as many reviews on yelp as they do on Google, however I'll post my review here too since I think it's worth mentioning we learned the restaurant is under new management. I came here for a light lunch and got the salt and pepper shrimp 5/5 and sautéed broccoli. The dishes tasted authentic and the new owners are polite and customer oriented. We chatted for a bit and they have plans to slowly update the space...(we saw them bringing in a new chandelier for the main area while we were there) but glad to see the food is already headed in a better direction! Will definitely be coming back here in the future. read more

I just re-discovered this place located not far from my man cave. I love their hot and sour soup I've had a variety of things on their menu all very good. I'd like to change things up a little bit and sometimes I ask if they can use this sauce on this other dish and they always are very accommodating. I usually eat there at lunchtime and the food is extremely inexpensive for what you get. excellent service from the owners son, this gets my highest recommendation! read more

Best Chinese food I've ever had in my life. I had my typical Chinese go to which was the sweet & sour chicken dinner with fried rice. I also had an egg roll and the egg drop soup. The egg roll and the chicken nuggets were deep fried to absolute perfection. The plum sauce was very tasty and was more sweet than tangy which I prefer. Great ambience too. First time here and I had the sweet and sour chicken combo and was really impressed. Chicken was all good and I didn't find any mystery meat. The sauce was tasty with a lot of green pepper and pineapple The fried rice was decent and they gave you a large amount. Overall fairly large portions and more than enough for one person. I would say egg roll was average but no complaints. I'll be back. Would love to try a few other items. Was in the area and had a craving for some Chinese food and I'm so glad we found this cute hidden gem! I love that they have Cantonese dishes. We got the pork fried rice, salt and pepper shrimp, and Mongolian beef. Everything tasted delicious plus they had very generous portion sizes! We were so hungry I forgot to take pictures before we ate, but we loved the salt and pepper shrimp so much that we had to order another plate so we could have left overs to take home. You could tell tell they genuinely wanted you to have a good experience. Also I hate Chinese food. I like many of you, like using the review score when making purchase decisions. I never just look at the score. I look for the number of reviews and I try to find helpful reviews to give me more incite into what I may be getting into. My wife works in a business where the reviews really matter for bringing in new customers. She often talks about the long-time customers who keep returning but have never left a review. Those are really the voices that should matter more to people who want an honest review of the company they are looking into. Unfortunately, even though I like looking at reviews, I seldom leave one unless I'm very satisfied with the company or really disappointed. In both cases, I leave my emotions aside and tell things as I experience them. This means that if everything wasn't perfect, I don't ding them for minor stuff. I give people the benefit of the doubt because we all have those days when we aren't at our best. When I read bad reviews about restaurants that I frequent often, I wonder about the person leaving the review. I feel that they are either competitors with malicious intent, someone who didn't try to listen to resolve whatever issues they perceived to be happening, or simply someone who's looking for a reason and is too hard to please in the first place. So with all that out of the way, let me get to the Lim's Star review. I love Chinese food and it's one of the first things I looked for locally when I bought my house 10 years ago. There are several in what I would consider my drivable area. Lim's Star is in my top 5 or higher depending on what dish I'm looking for. 10 years means I've been coming there since before the current owner. Do I miss the dinner rolls? Not really, since I get better quality food and personalization of meals on request. The new owner knows us on sight and remembers what we like to order. He even allows us to modify the ingredients to our liking. He is very friendly and will engage in small talk to get to know his customers better. We eat at or buy takeout from Lim's Star at least once a month, sometimes more. Has everything always been perfect? No, but I really can't recall the last time I was dissatisfied with my order or service. Based on my long review, I'm hoping you can tell I have had many enjoyable meals from and experiences with Lim's Star. Seriously! If you are on the fence or willing to try something new in your area, start with a dish you know to compare. I doubt you will be disappointed in your comparison. Mark J. read more

I have been eating at Lim Star for over 30 years. This is my go to Chinese restaurant. Not anymore. Last night I order $93.00 worth of food and not one dish was cooked or prepared as it had been in the past. When you go to a staple restaurant you get used to the menu and dishes and what a disappointment this meal was. When I called the restaurant to find out if there was a new chef, new ownership, what caused the change the young man hung up on me. I just wanted an explanation because if this is the New "Lim Star" I want the old one back. I will not eat at this restaurant again. We went for our annual Christmas lunch, worst service. 1 person waiting tables with a restaurant full of people. Food was cold and not prepared properly. It was just a horrible experience. Then on top of everything else, they added a 30% service fee to our $150.00+ order. We are done with Lims Star after 30 years of patronage!! The chicken was huge like chicken strips and not bite size pieces, the general tso sauce was terrible and very sweet despite ordering "Hot". Solid 3. Almost a 4.. the food never takes long, they are always really nice, quiet cute atmosphere. We have been here a few times and they never seem to be super busy. The food quality overall is good. It's exactly what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. Some dishes can be more flavourful than others. We can always count on quality/consistency here. There hasn't ever been any major hiccups with our food. Some of the dishes seem a bit dry or over cooked and lack flavour. The price point is fair. Some stuff can add up quickly but its reliable if you are in need of a quick dinner. I would be interested in trying their pad thai. I like their egg rolls. We only ever came here before the new ownership for the almond chicken and I'm pleased it's still the same if not better. I have tried some other dishes to explore the menu which have been good as well. The general tso was maybe a bit too sweet but I enjoyed it. The chicken pad Thai was very good and spicy too.
