Mediocre, I wouldn't call this Szechuan.. the mapo tofu was okay, but honestly lacked a lot of flavor. To try a more "American" dish we got the general tsos chicken which was very bland as well. All in all, most things lacked flavor. Would not recommend coming here. read more

Trash! Just... trash. I've ordered from here twice, just to make sure this place sucked before I wrote my review. Let's start off with customer service, it's pretty bad. And th staff here isn't very friendly. During my second trip here, I was ignored when picking up my food. After telling one of the waiters that I was here for pickup, she just walks away and I literally just walked behind the counter to get the food myself. RIDICULOUS. The ambiance here is not all that spectacular either. Not that I expected much in this department. Everything I have ordered from here has been below average at best. Egg roles... bland. The "Thai Rice" was just yellow rice with pineapples and cherries thrown in the mix. And for the price, there are much better options in this area. This place is excellent! Ample menu, even including sushi options. But I went there for Chinese food and left pleasantly surprised. A must stop for me going forward. This is a re-visit. We had tried their food soon after they moved to this location. It was always so good, and we had high hopes it would continue and not miss a beat. It was just too new and lacked structure with the staff and kitchen. So here we are now, and we're anxious to try our favorites. The service was on the spot with everything and doing a great job! We love the fact that they give you free hot tea and the crisp fried wonton chips, such a delight. It is so easy to fill up on them before you get your meal. My husband ordered his usual, shrimp lomein, but now they have a twist to it, Chinese bacon, which is sweet and salty, and it complemented the dish very well. I ordered the Triple delight,which had shrimp, chicken, and beef in a brown sauce with white rice. Initially, it looked good, but as soon as I spooned it over the rice, I saw a scant amount of sauce, and it congealed to a paste like texture, so there was no way to flavor the rice. What a letdown. We had soups, too. The seafood soup has a creamy mushroom base with mushroom slices, shrimp, crab meat, and a piece of lobster tail. The Wonton soup was a chicken base and had 2 wontons. The fried wontons were filled with cream cheese and crab meat. We really did not see much crab meat in them or taste it either, none the less, they were good. I AM SO MAD!!! First to the owners: What really helps a family-owned, non-chain Asian restaurant succeed on the York Road corridor is not responding to reviews of your business in such an unprofessional way. What also helps is serving excellent Americanized or countryside food with good service. Now the review! So some roads, you think you know them. You drive them a hundred times, and they're just asphalt and streetlights. But every now and then, a new place opens up, a new door on a familiar street, and you find yourself pulled in by a curious kind of dread. You think, why not? And that's where the horror begins. We should have known. The signs were there from the start. The kind of signs you only see in hindsight, when the slow-motion car wreck is already in your rearview mirror. The decor was a hodgepodge of broken promises--tables that didn't match, like mismatched gravestones, and on each one, a solitary cup of straws, as if to say, You'll need a dozen more, pilgrim, before this is over. The windows were smeared with the grime of a thousand unspoken nights, eyes that refused to see the light. When they handed us the menus, they weren't just menus; they were leather-bound relics. I opened mine, and flakes of something old, something dried, fell out, a silent harbinger of what was to come. A tiny plate of stale rock-hard wontons followed, petrified bones waiting for a lick of sauce--not that the sauces would help. The duck sauce was an old sweet, sickly smear, and the mustard, a watery yellow confession of defeat. The vegetable egg rolls came next. I bit into mine, and there it was--the cold spot. A core of profound, unholy chill surrounded by a piping hot exterior. Like a lie. You chew on it, and it tells you that something is very wrong, but by then, it's too late. We should have run. We should have thrown open the door and fled into the welcoming neon glow of Fuji San, Fusion, Green Leaf, Miku Sushi and Steakhouse, Sonny Lee's Hunan Taste, or Umi Sake. All of which we have eaten at for years and loved... but we sadly stayed. We watched as our entrees arrived, bathed in a theatrical light meant to hide the terrible truth. The dishes themselves were simple, but in their simplicity lay a kind of cosmic horror. The vegetables had a creeping brown rot at the edges, and the white rice, once a thing of purity, carried the foul stench of mothballs, a whisper of graves long forgotten. My fried rice, for which I had paid extra, was just brown rice with nothing in it, no veggies, no meat, just a blank canvas of bleakness. The sauces were a pale, gelatinous slurry, tasting of nothing but despair and a sickening amount of corn starch. As we sat there, feeling the poison take root, the hostess passed by, cloaked in a cloud of perfume so overpowering it had more flavor than the food. It was meant to mask the stench of a place that should not be, but it only amplified the corruption. Now, as I write this, I can feel a cold fist of dread tightening in my gut, counting down the minutes until the inevitable reckoning of sweaty toilet time. I am disgusted. Not just by the food, but by the shameful, unholy pact they have made with mediocrity. DO BETTER!!! read more

Szechuan House used to be located in another spot. I think they closed for a period of time and have since reopened at this location in the Timonium Square shopping plaza. There is plenty of parking as this is a large shopping plaza with many restaurants and other retailers. Szechuan House is a local restaurant. Staff are personable and they greet guests swiftly. We were dining with friends who eat here often. The staff always remember their order too! Before the meal is served, they bring plates of crispy wonton chips and dipping sauce, as well as complimentary tea. We ordered shrimp fried rice and vegetable tempura. The plate presentation of the tempura is so cute. Almost like a tower as opposed to just placing the pieces haphazardly on the plate. At most Asian restaurants in Maryland, fried rice almost always includes bean sprouts. I am not a fan. I forgot to request they be omitted and guess what, the fried rice here is served without bean sprouts anyway! Yay! The entrée is amply sized to share and has large pieces of shrimp, with scrambled egg, peas and carrots. Simply delicious! We would return! read more

Robert. I ate at the old restaurant 3 times a month for 25 years, that may not seem impressive but I lived in howard county. I came to your new restaurant twice in the first 3 of being open. It was scattered and horriable seriously. I waited 2 years to come back. Hear is what happened today, I ordered our regular order Came in and it took 5 minutes to be seated that's fine. Went to go to the washroom. no soap in the 2 dispensers and there was a 1 gallon of soap with nothing in it, that has be breaking county code. Took 10 minutes to get a menu and 10 minutes to order. It was 4 and we didn't want to run into the dinner rush. We ordered 2 hot sour soup, 2 crispy eggroll Pan Fried Noodles Wu Geng Dow Chang. The eggrolls and soup came in 7-8 minutes. The eggroles were dripping in grease and the soup was not hot nor sour and sadly there was very little ingredients in the soup. This was my favorite Hot Sour Soup ever. You have awesome egg rolls also but you need to let them drain so the egg rolls dont literally drip. I was getting sad from our first course but I knew we still had the Entrées. The Entrées came and was hot but you can't taste food so I let it cool.z.bit so I could taste it. Remember I ate at the old restaurant 700+ times how could it be like this. I tasted my food and the salt was so very over done. Well the waitress said a lot of people have told her the food is very salty. The Wu Geng Dow Chang was also very salty even though it was put on rice. They remade the Wu Geng Dow Chang (Tofu with intestines) was the same salty the second time and I reordered 3 Happiness instead of Pan Fried Noodles it was the same sauce and very very salty. For the first time they packed to food and we threw the food in the trash as we left the restaurant. For the first time in my 65+ years I threw away chinese food, ever! I spent $51 dollars for late lunch. I would like a refund Robert, I am so very sorry. I am serious as a heart attack. I wish you would have been there Robert. My daughter has a birthday today and I wanted to take her to lunch at a place of her choosing. After working a case, it looked her main destination wouldn't work out, so she settled on SH. We both had sushi on our minds as it's the only stuff she can enjoy at SH due to allergies. The interior is slowing evolving from the identity of a former tenant. Between us we ordered about eight rolls. Most cooked and some raw and all priced within range. Presentation and food second to none, imho. Sushi chef came by to make sure we liked his creation. We not only liked it, we loved it. He was wearing a "SUSHI KING" T-shirt. Between Chinese, Thai and Sushi, Szechuan House has emerged as sort of a one stop shop for Asian Cuisine at excellent prices. Having lived in China for a semester, I have a hard time finding a Chinese restaurant I truly enjoy. Most Chinese places here use a lot of corn starch to thicken food, sugar and oil to make the taste more "pleasing" to the American palate. This place is not the exception; they use all of these things. However, also being used to the American standard, I found that the food was generally okay. I actually enjoyed the chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce (even though it did not look appetizing at all, as it has a slimy look). The general Tso's chicken was very good. The service was a bit delayed on a Thursday night, but it was okay. Lastly, the place is very confusing; with lamp fixtures and decorations of different style, there is no real identity to this restaurant. Lastly, the place wasn't super clean. Lots of trash under booths, and booths that took a while to clean. read more

This place boasts to have authentic Chinese cuisine, so of course we took the trek to Timonium to check it out. The server was very nice and also very apologetic. 2 of the cups on the table had lipstick stains. The silverware had crusted food on it. My glass of water had a bug in it. Already a few red flags, but we decided to stay after getting new and cleaner place settings. My mom was really excited to try the "Pata Tim" which is a Filipino dish of braised pig's feet. It was clear that the meat had been frozen for a long time and they reheat it on the off-chance that someone orders it. The snow pea leaves in garlic and the scallion pancakes were the only things we enjoyed. I can't imagine these dishes to be hard to prepare. Maybe the American Chinese food is better, but we didn't order any of those dishes. Maybe the chef doesn't cook the "Chinese" dishes as often so was at a loss as to how to prepare them. Not sure what the negative reviews are about. This was my first visit to this establishment and can't say enough good things. Came here on Easter Sunday with a party of six. We were able to share 4 dishes amongst the 6 of us (to be fair, we're all small asian women) and still took home leftovers. We ordered the happy family dish, shrimp lo mein, sweet sour chicken, and snow pea tips. They were all great - but nothing spectacular, just decent for Chinese food, the snow pea tips were my fave though. Really flavorful, you can really taste the garlic but it wasn't overpowering. The staff and service were all super friendly and accommodating! We were seated immediately with drinks and crackers served shortly after. We even brought a cake, as we were celebrating a birthday, they were nice enough to give us more plates and forks for serving. As far as the atmosphere, it's pretty open and nothing too fancy. There is one random tv on the wall. Otherwise I love the big windows, makes the restaurant feel brighter and bigger. Would come again, as my mom is a crazy picky eater and this place has quickly made it on her short list of places she'd eat at in the Baltimore County area. read more

I was recommended this restaurant, so I decided to give it a try for lunch. The outside doesn't really match the inside in my opinion. When I approached the building and saw the signage, I expected a stylish interior, but as I walked in I was thrown off. You might be familiar with the storefront Chinese restaurants, where you order to take out, cause their is no seating or maybe one or two tables. Well, super size it and you get the Szechuan House. You walk in and are welcomed by a counter where you can order to take out (without the thick plastic windows) or let them know you want to dine in and you are being escorted to one of the many tables or booths. They have a lunch menu you can pick from and it will cost you less than $10. I ordered the Szechuan Shrimp with fried rice. Shortly after I ordered the dish was brought with a bowl steamed rice. The fried rice was at no additional cost so I didn't make a big deal out of it. I had my share of wrong orders this week already, so I decided to eat what was served. Just as at home when I was a little wipper snapper. I liked my order and the portion was just right for lunch. The shrimp had a good flavor and were spicy but not too spicy, perfect with the steamed rice. This is a great spot for lunch for sure, and you can't beat the price. Decided to stop by for dinner after seeing it packed for lunch a few weeks ago. The restaurant was spacious but very drafty and chilly, so we dined with our coats on most of the time. The free wonton noodles and hot tea were good, I just wished the tea was actually hot. It was barely warm. The food was really good - tasty, fresh, not oily and plentiful. The dinner portion (quart) was very large and could be shared between two people. My sister had a shrimp egg roll, which she said was fresh and tasty too. The wonton soup was perfect (I wish it had more than 2 wontons though). I'll definitely be back for carry out or dine in. The prices were excellent! With 2 soups, 2 meals and an egg roll we ate for under $35 and each had a to-go box! read more

Had to finally try the place that used to be housed where Kung Fu Szechuan 12 now exists. This location is down the road in a fancy shopping center. The TV's all had aquarium videos running and the background music sounded like one would be at an aquarium, lol. The service here is really good, but I've had a lot of traditionally-prepared Szechuan food across the US east coast and this sadly is nothing close to traditional. It all definitely falls under ACF (American Chinese Food). I actually thought their rendition of Chongqing Chicken (Crispy Szechuan Chicken) was good. It runs a lot sweeter than anywhere else I've been. Otherwise, everything else was disappointingly bland and not mala. They do provide free fried wonton's. That was a nice touch I hadn't seen done in a long time, but that's an ACF thing. I tried to the following, some there, and some togo. I can only recommend the crispy szechuan chicken. Please note that the Szechuan Aromatic Chicken, which I got to go, was identical. Separate line items on the menu, but the same and made no sense to me. -Cold Noodles Sesame Sauce -Crispy Szechuan Chicken -Double Cooked Pork -Mo Po Tofu w Pork -Szechuan Aromatic Chicken (was identical to the crispy szechuan chicken) Sadly, I'd say just stick with KF12 if you're looking for authentic Szechuan. Tried 2 new dishes, a beef radish dish and a chicken chow fen dish. Both were not that good and temperature wise, not very hot either. Only at 1.5 or 6 pieces. - Steamed shumai (2.5/5): Flavor was ok, but the texture was off. Way too mushy. Didn't even finish half of my order. - Dynamite roll (0/5): Yuck. Mushy. Bland. Drenched with strange sauce. Only ate one piece before calling it quits. - Spicy tuna roll (3/5): Pretty hard to mess up a spicy tuna roll. My biggest complaint was that it wasn't flavorful enough. My fiancé and I came here tonight for the first time and will definitely be back! The ambiance isn't anything special but the food was amazing. We arrived right before 5 and were seated immediately. We were given the complimentary tea and wonton chips with the 2 dipping sauces. We ordered the fried crab wontons & cold noodles with sesame sauce as appetizers. The wontons were delicious. I didn't care for the noodles but my fiancé liked them. We both got an egg roll and soup with our entrees (I got wonton soup and he got hot & sour soup), the soup and egg rolls were great. I ordered the triple treasures a my entree which is chicken, scallops, and shrimp in a garlic sauce. He ordered the dragon & Phoenix which is lobster and chicken. We were both so full by the time our entrees came but both entrees were wonderful. We were expecting our bill to be a lot higher and we're pleasantly surprised.
