It was time to try a new Chinese restaurant, in Simi Valley. Walking in, there was no exciting welcome or greeting. One hostess who was on her phone at the register and one server, who was either in a bad mood or did not wish to be there. I was here for lunch and in such situations, like to go for the lunch special. Smaller portions with a try on different addiitonal components that they can offer. For the soup, I chose the egg flower. Came out at the right temperature, but pale in color with only egg whites and a few grains of corn. The broth seemed to taste like the diet version, clearly needed more salt. My main dish was the fish in black bean sauce, with fried rice, salad and a wonton. All comes on one plate, actually very nicely presented. The fish was tender, the vegetables crunchy and the sauce well balanced. Fried rice, though luke warm, was still good. I asked for chili paste or chili oil and was curtly presented with Sriracha sauce. This is not only callous but insulting. Say you do not have it, instead of dumping a container with the wrong presentation. What totally killed this dining experience was the service, from start to finish. No smiling. Abrupt. Mechanical. Attitude. Uninviting. And therefore, unmemorable and unrepeatable.

Combination chow mein with crispy noodles. Where the hell is the chow mein here?? Gave me the combination of shrimp and chicken but missing chow mein and the guy the I spoke to said the chow mein is the crispy noodles! This is a joke!

We love it here! Food is always delicious and good portions. We order a few different plates and everyone shares. My favorite is the sweet and sour chicken and salt and pepper shrimp. Give this place a try!

Our go-to Chinese restaurant! We always order takeout and have never been disappointed with the taste or serving sizes. Service is super quick so we never have to wait long to pick up our order. We love their Kung pao chicken and sesame chicken! We tried two new things this time - the 3 chili chicken and the chicken and broccoli. The 3 chili chicken is very spicy! We normally find anything up to the 2 chilis on their menu quite mild (and having to add chili oil), but this is true to scale! The chicken and broccoli was bland with an off texture - it tasted like boiled chicken and luckily we mixed it in with the 3 chili chicken to make up for it.

Honey Walnut Shrimp is a must!!! Shrimp and noodles, wontons, egg rolls and bbq pork fried rice and OH!!!! My shu pork!

Their voicemail message continues to say "temporarily closed." So I started searching closer to home, which is a challenge because I don't usually view any Simi Valley restaurant as being worthy of our patronage... yet, I searched anyway. I found Bao Su on Yelp, so we decided to give them a try based on other Yelper reviews. Bottom line is that my husband and I were incredibly impressed with their food, not to mention, happy that it is so much closer. We ordered the following (takeout): Shrimp Fried Rice Shrimp with Lobster Sauce Szechuan Style Eggplant Sizzling Chicken Mongolian Beef I had a bit of a problem deciphering their menu because there weren't a lot of details as to ingredients, so I took chances and prayed they were dishes we've had before. Everything was delicious, plentiful and mostly recognizable... with the exception of the shrimp with lobster sauce. That was more soup-like and watered down from what we're used to, but it was still really good. All dishes were loaded with protein and vegetables, well seasoned and sauced, and textures were soft or crunchy, just as we knew them to be... and just as we loved them. We've since ordered from them again, and they were (very happily) consistently delicious. We are sooooooo happy to now have a LOCAL Chinese restaurant that we can trust and enjoy. We may even dine there and not do the takeout thing for a change. (I really would like to ask them what some of their other dishes are on the menu cuz I would like more options, truth be told. However, if the dishes above are the only ones I would ever choose to order, I'm fine with that, too.)

Was surprised to find such an authentic spot for Chinese in Oak Park!…read more I came by for a Mother's Day lunch with my family. When we arrived around 1 pm, the restaurant was maybe half full. But clearly it was popular as people were coming in constantly the entire time we were eating. Even though the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, most of the dishes on the menu were more like Sichuan dishes i.e. spicy. All of the food was super solid and portions were ginormous. My recommendation is to order 1 dish per person if you want leftovers, or order one less dish than the # of people if you want to finish most of the food. I don't handle spice very well, so we ordered a mix of spicy and non-spicy dishes. We shared the following: #1 Yunan rice noodles ($16.99) #32 scallion pancake ($8.99) #104 Chong qing fried chicken ($16.99) #107 braised pork belly with buns ($19.99) #109 boiled two items - fish and duck blood ($21.99) Given that the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, we felt like we had to order one of the most popular dishes from that region, the Yunan rice noodles i.e. crossing the bridge noodles. I really enjoyed the silky smooth mixian noodles as well as the flavorful broth. The fried chicken was too spicy for me; I ate one piece and my whole mouth was on fire. Everyone else said it was quite spicy as well, so eat this in moderation unless you can really handle your spice. The 3 pepper signs next to this dish on the menu are no joke! The braised pork belly was delicious, but portions were on the smaller side for this one. Still, I enjoyed making a little bun sandwich with the pork belly and pickled veggies. The boiled fish and duck blood was also super solid. It was just a little spicy, so I was able to manage a couple pieces with the help of rice on the side. Portions were very generous for this dish. We all ate lots of fish and duck blood and still had a ton left to take home. They also have some precooked 涼菜, i.e. cold dishes, on the side you can buy for dine-in or to go. We got 3 of the meats - pork tongue, pork head, and and beef tripe, to go. Paid $16.99 for a huge box of these meats. We thought this was a steal too. Can't wait to try some at home!

I'm not from the area but visit a good amount. This was our first time coming here. We ordered crispy walnut shrimp, kung pao chicken, mapo tofu, edamame, dumplings & hot and sour soup & egg flower soup. They have great deals for their lunch specials. Around $12 for the main dish, rice, egg rolls, & soup. The edamame, dumplings (actually now that I think about it we ordered dumplings but I think we got potstickers but not their fault since the child that placed the order basically whispered it), & egg flower soup was kid approved. The mapo tofu is marked as spicy. When I placed the order she wanted to make sure that I knew this, which I appreciated. The dish had a good amount of spice. A bit of a kick but still enjoyable. I think it was a pretty big serving so I was able to take half of it home, which I ate for dinner. I can't speak for the other dishes, but those that ordered it said it was good. So no complaints there. The atmosphere was pretty calm when we were there since it was not that crowded at that time.
