Excellent! I'm a Chinese food snob and have tasted some of the best around the country. For Simi Valley, which is a culinary wasteland, Szechuwan Garden is a welcome surprise. I have sampled most of their dishes and find them delicious. Ingredients are fresh (shrimp, vegetables), service is very prompt, portions are ample and prices very reasonable. Wow. This is the first time I have ever considered calling my bank and demanding a charge back for how utterly horrible the food was. I have been going to Szechuwan Garden for over 20 years. Their food quality goes up and down and we've stopped going a couple times but tonight was the last time I will go there. A $140 meal for four was essentially water. Watery sauces, watery mustard and the biggest, grossest issue was watery sweet and sour sauce. I've never once considered posting a video to Yelp, but when you see the sauce you will see why. Sweet and sour sauce is supposed to be thick and warm. This was essentially cold, red, water. It flow right off the fried chicken and pools in the bowl. And all through the time we're he keeps saying sorry sorry to all of the customers. So rude attitude. When our order came he just set them on the edge of the table at front. And furthermore, there's a family four that had been sitting there at their table 10 minutes before us, and they had not yet gotten their order, until the man stood up to tell the guy sitting at the front that they needed to order. It was time to try a new Chinese restaurant, in Simi Valley. Walking in, there was no exciting welcome or greeting. One hostess who was on her phone at the register and one server, who was either in a bad mood or did not wish to be there. I was here for lunch and in such situations, like to go for the lunch special. Smaller portions with a try on different addiitonal components that they can offer. For the soup, I chose the egg flower. Came out at the right temperature, but pale in color with only egg whites and a few grains of corn. The broth seemed to taste like the diet version, clearly needed more salt. My main dish was the fish in black bean sauce, with fried rice, salad and a wonton. All comes on one plate, actually very nicely presented. The fish was tender, the vegetables crunchy and the sauce well balanced. Fried rice, though luke warm, was still good. I asked for chili paste or chili oil and was curtly presented with Sriracha sauce. This is not only callous but insulting. Say you do not have it, instead of dumping a container with the wrong presentation. What totally killed this dining experience was the service, from start to finish. No smiling. Abrupt. Mechanical. Our go-to Chinese restaurant! We always order takeout and have never been disappointed with the taste or serving sizes. Service is super quick so we never have to wait long to pick up our order. We love their Kung pao chicken and sesame chicken! We tried two new things this time - the 3 chili chicken and the chicken and broccoli. The 3 chili chicken is very spicy! We normally find anything up to the 2 chilis on their menu quite mild (and having to add chili oil), but this is true to scale! The chicken and broccoli was bland with an off texture - it tasted like boiled chicken and luckily we mixed it in with the 3 chili chicken to make up for it. read more

We gathered with several friends for a belated Chinese New Year celebration. We called ahead, and they easily accommodated us. One lady ordered pot stickers and chicken skewers as an appetizer, but our server did not note the quantity, so portions were tasty but skimpy. Another guest ordered the special rice for the table. It was good fried-rice-type dish, but it wasn't my favorite. Everyone enjoyed the walnut shrimp, and we should have gotten a double order. The cashew and kung pao chicken dishes were also very good, but could have used more vegetables. Also, we ordered the kung pao mild, and it came out pretty bland. Sesame beef tasted like the flour it was dredged in, and had like three or four slivers of red onion in the container. Potstickers were ok, I'm loathe to say this was a decent part of the meal. Two plates of beef and noodles and the amount of meat was pathetic then when I called to talk to them they were passing the phone back and forth pretending they didn't understand what I was saying. Rude people here. My sister went online to order takeout for pickup for a family of four. I drove there to pick up our food. It wasn't ready yet. I asked for a glass of water to drink while I waited. They said they didn't have any. Not they were too busy to accommodate my request. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY WATER. Mind you, I'm standing next to a fish tank as this woman is telling me this. I texted my sister, who promptly called to cancel the order. She told them if they don't have any water, their employees can't wash their hands, and it's not safe to eat there. Ordered takeaway from here the other night and I was quite impressed! The order was ready and on the counter when we got there and made for an easy pickup. We got a feast: fried wontons, wonton strips, BBQ pork with broccoli, walnut crispy shrimp, sesame chicken, vegetable lo mein, and Singapore rice noodles. Everything was soooo good! My faves were definitely the walnut crispy shrimp, which came with candied walnuts and pineapple, and the veggie lo mein. The shrimp was crispy and juicy and the veggie lo mein was noodle perfection! Parking was super easy, as it's in a large strip mall with abundant parking. Can't wait to come back and order more! Interested in trying some of the other stuff on the menu. So am trying my best to understand her, but she's not trying her best to understand me. I was trying to order the Sauteed Triple Delight and she was not a delight to talk to. First of all in contrast to many other reviews we got good service by an older man and lady. We were attended to well though we were also the first people coming in for dinner. There was a point where one of the ladies yelled across the room to one of the men though. The food itself wasn't good and I'm not sure whether they're understaffed in the back or if it was the rush of people coming in after us, but as someone who knows Chinese food, it saddens me to say that Panda Express is better in quality and consistency than this. The pricing of the food does not reflect the quality either though you do get a large portion. My table ordered several things including Salt and Pepper Fried Pork Chops, Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, Chow Mein, White Rice, Walnut Crispy Shrimp, Szechuan Garlic Shredded Beef, Honey Spicy Shrimp, and Steamed Dumplings. Out of all these dishes, the only notable one was the Shrimp Fried Rice where the shrimp was really well cooked. The rest of the dishes were seemingly overpowering either with sugar, salt, or just lacked any flavor. Even with the spicy dishes, there was no spice at all. Good fried salt and pepper pork chops normally have a golden brown color when fried at the right temperature, but they were instead overcooked being darker brown and most notably dry and without salt and pepper. Very chewy and no flavor at all. The Kung Pao Chicken had a lot on the plate, but the flavor itself was way too salty to be palatable even when trying to even it out with white rice. The same can be said of the Szechuan Garlic Shredded Beef. There was no depth to it all it or hint of garlic, but it was just sweet for some reason. The Orange Chicken was expectedly sweet and actually had a hint of orange in the flavor, but there was way too much sugar in it. The Walnut Crispy Shrimp came in a bowl made of eggroll wrap that was fried, but my god Panda Express's Honey Walnut Shrimp is better than this. The sauce on this was so overpowering in sweetness and sugar that it wasn't palatable. It literally tasted like donut glaze. The same could be said of the Honey Spicy Shrimp, there was literally no spice in that dish since there was so much sugar. The steamed dumpling appetizer honestly was REALLY flavorless even with the sauce. Overall, I'd never go here again for the food unless there was a drastic change in quality. You would save much more money and enjoy more going to literally Panda Express or possibly any other Chinese Takeout place that isn't in Simi like those in Rowland Heights. Thats how bad the food was to me and I know good Chinese food. I really wanted to give them a chance and this was just really disappointing. read more

The sweet and sour pork was fresh, the combination chow mein wasn't stingy on the amount of meat, the fried shrimp and BBQ Pork was SO good and all of these were just as delicious the following day for leftovers.
