First Time I've left a bad review. Father, Brother and I got the burger combos, with a side of large chili fries and two chili dogs. They told us after we ordered they only had one hotdog left on a Tuesday at 11:30am? We asked if they could give us a small chili fries instead and when we got the food they put a regular small fry instead. We asked them about the chili fry, and the manager I'm guessing came to the table and took a small fry off the tray and then put it in a small foam and put chili and cheese. Then when we got the rest of the food they said they didn't have large styrofoam containers so they put the large chili fries in two small ones. Finally, we go to leave and I asked for a small to go box to take the left over fries, and he said he'd have to charge me 50 cents? The burger was bland and the vegetables tasted old. Definitely would not come back here. Not having two hotdogs in the middle of the week is crazy. Tj's hamburgers is one of my favorite burger places to go to, as I've been coming here since I was little. Before they closed down and switched families (I'm assuming) everyone always had smiles on their face and the best customer service. Since they have reopened their customer service has gone down hill. The "boss" and or manager is rude to customers. Now I understand businesses close at a specific time. But as for what the internet and Apple Maps says , they close at 9:30. Tonight I got there at 8:59 and when I got to the restaurant they had their open lights on. When I walked in the boss was sitting down eating and they informed me that they were closed. And everything was already turned off . They let me know that they closed at 9. Before I even came to the restaurant I tried to call the store but the number was out of service. Let me start by saying that this burger joint is a Southside staple. I've been going to this burger joint since I was in elementary at their original location just a few feet away when they had a water cooler to keep this joint cool. Since then they moved a few feet down with a new building but stayed true to their roots that's made them a Southside favorite. The burgers have always been and are still one of my favorites. Old fashioned burgers made to order. The taste reminds me of my childhood and brings back happy memories of eating with my grandparents who are no longer with me. The prices are incredibly reasonable. I no longer live in the area but it's always worth the 20 minute drive it takes me to get there for a taste of nostalgia and just a down right dam good burger. If you like a thin hamburger patty like I do then you will like TJs hamburgers! It's a good ol' fashioned hamburger plus this place has been around since the beginning of time practically. So you know they are doing something right. The menu is simple, they don't only carry meat burgers, they also have fish or chicken burgers. The fries remind me of shoestring cut, you have to eat them while they are hot because they get hard when they cool down, something that I didn't like hence the 4 stars. I stumbled across this place last year after looking for good hamburger joints (via Yelp) and the two times I have been here since then have left me incredibly satisfied. To start, the prices are high value. Not only is it inexpensive but you get a lot of food for the money. I highly recommend adding large fries or large chili cheese fries to your order, as the chili cheese fries could easily satisfy the side portions for two adults. The food is made fresh right in front of you in this homey, diner-esque establishment. Don't let the surrounding area fool you. It may not be seen as a "nice" area of San Antonio, and all that does is make this even more of a hidden gem. Very rude and bad customer service, Was waiting for curbside service and was told I had to move my vehicle. The worker was rude on giving direction otherwise and cussed at me while I was moving to the order line. T.J.'s has been made-over! I had a greasy burger craving (or a Vitamin G craving as some would call it.) and I had a flashback to when my parents would drive on down to T.J.'s, order a couple burgers and we'd eat in the car, drive-in style. Headed over down New Laredo Hwy and saw that the T.J.'s of my youth had been upgraded into a bright and shiny new building but still kept that down-home burger taste. T.J.'s burger was just as I remembered it, straight-forward, greasy and delicious. The fries have also changed up from steak fries to shoe-string fries but were still fresh and crispy.
