so we were traveling in San Antonio and we were in a store and an employee had his lunch and we misread the bag, and ended up here based on a google search. not very fancy in or out, but the burgers were juicy and each one is made fresh to order, not sitting under a lamp. This place has been open on the south side of San Antonio for as long as I can remember. I recall ordering to go and eating burgers from here as far back as the early 90s. I hadn't been back in years but regularly passed by the location. I decided to stop by in for a late lunch one day when I was off from work during the week. Parking availability is not an issue when I visited around 2pm. The building and interior are nothing fancy. The service was fine, you order at the window outside or at the counter inside. Payment options are modern, I was able to pay with my American Express via their tablet point of sale. I ordered a chili cheese burger meal (fries and 12oz diet coke) and an order of chili cheese fries. Everything was made to order and came out nice and hot. The burger is loaded (full of vegetables, mayo, patty, and chili) and the fires were nice and warm with a fine crisp and soft inside. The bun was nice and toasted lightly. My favorite part was how the mayo, tomatoes, and chili went so well together. The chili in the burger and on the fries wasnt too salty or spicy. Cheese was nice and melted. Knocked off 1 star for the following: I was not asked if I was dining in or ordering take out. I had planned on dining in but received my order to go. I still ate inside which was small but clean. I usually go to Griffs Hamburgers, up the street from Best Burger so was not aware they existed, but read Best Burger write up in SA Express News and finally able to give them a try. The staff was very friendly and joked around. Had double cheeseburger and it was cheesy and beefy. But the fries .... they were hot and fresh! Burger restaurants are a dime a dozen in San Antonio, and there all about the same. Best Burger can be lumped in with this unassuming and vaguely interesting group of quick pick-up stops. We come here for the $9.99 special when we want a cheap dinner, but it isn't quick any means. We usually wait about 20 minutes for the burgers, which are freshly made when you order. Fresh is good, cheap is good, but the wait means we're rare visitors (and by rare I mean we live down the street and have only come twice this year.) The burgers are big and greasy, toppings are squished in there, and the meat patty is decent. Tastes like your Dad made them in the backyard, but he isn't a gourmet chef. Sometimes you just want though, you know? On the plus side, service is always decent and hard-working. It's not like they're not back there whipping up your orders! I wouldn't plan on dining in if I were you; there are only about 6 small tables and its a little warm with the kitchen grill so near the seating area. Inside you'll find about five tables or so and a huge bench across the wall to wait for to go orders. Best Burger has always been known for its squeaky clean kitchen and don't remember it otherwise. All orders are started after you order. Fresh veggies and toasted buns fitted. Burgers are a bit sloppy but oh so good. If you're in a mood for a greasy homemade burger this would be my number one suggestion. Fries are all right in my book. The onion rings are what to get. Huge and crispy. 4 stars might be because I'm bias but Best Burgers reminds me of my childhood hood. Southside, represent! Wow, where did that come from? All jokes aside, this isn't the fanciest or most updated burger place and it's located deep on the southside of town but these burgers easily stand up against the almighty Whataburger. They are always juicy and flavorful with crispy, golden fries and something not a lot of places have... fried burritos! It's a tiny place with about 4 or 5 tables and a cute hand-drawn mural of the Texas countryside. Don't let the beat up appearance fool you. These ladies received a Blue Plate Award from WOAI News a few years back for having a spotless kitchen. read more

My family and I recently came to Best Burger after word of mouth from a family friend that they were the best burgers, but they weren't. I really do enjoy going to mom and pop restaurants because they actually do make the best food ever, but this one left me very sad. First off, it is self serve, you order at the front and they give you a number. The waitress was very nice and helpful. As far as cleanliness goes, the tables were very dirty and felt greasy. If you have to use the bathroom I would avoid going, this restaurant doesn't have a bathroom inside. You'll have to go to the back of the restaurant and use a key that the employee gives you. It's very dirty and smelly. When the food came out it was very cold and I didn't even finish the entire thing. The sodas were flat and we left disappointed.
