Maybe the best lunch experience I've ever had. I almost never write a review immediately but I had to make sure I put my 2 cents in. I'm behind on several reviews, but I wanted to make sure as many people as possible are aware of this place. It's order at the counter style, and then they bring your food out to you. The place is a dive, with a counter by the window and scuffed up tables. The place is crazy busy, with limited parking. There seems to be an abundance of street parking though. The menu isn't huge, they have specials everyday, but breakfast is only served until 1030am. Judging by how good my lunch was, I'm going to have to make an effort to get here early some time soon. My wife didn't want anything battered so I ordered here the trip fish plate with onion rings and slaw. They gave a her a couple of hush puppies? They were little seasoned bread balls that I ate and dipped in the delicious cocktail sauce. Her fish looked perfect. I didn't try it because I had enough of my own food to contend with. The onion rings were in the top 3 I've ever had. I had the blackened mahi sandwich with lettuce, tomato and tartar sauce. The fish was so tender and juicy, I didn't really need the tartar sauce. The bun was super soft, the fries cooked perfectly. But the star of the show is the cole slaw side I ordered. Hands down the best I've ever had. There is like relish in it, and some secret seasoning that made it to die for. Come here ASAP and order some slaw. I'll be back soon. read more

Tried it for the first time today. Had the shrimp and grouper plates. Both were good, but a little pricey. Onion rings were a little over cooked. Not sure why they think they need to add sugar to the hushpuppies- Some onions would have been great. read more

Went for lunch to get one of their very good hamburgers before having a beach afternoon. Decided to get two crabcakes to take home for dinner as I did not want to get out after the beach. That was a great decision. Those were the two best crabcakes I think I've ever had full of meat and season just right. And they were left over. After hearing such hype over this restaurant, we finally stopped by for lunch and we were not terribly impressed. The lady at the counter was not at all friendly and the restaurant definitely could use a good cleaning. I understand the ambiance is supposed to be old and retro, but it doesn't need to look run down and poorly maintained. Our food was good, but nothing special. Where ever we go, we make it a point to seek out the locals advice on where to find a great burger. Jossie, front desk at Comfort Inn, suggested this place and goodness gracious bless Jossie. There is something to be said about hole in the wall places, they are just phenomenal. We drove up, T-Rays is inside an old gas station and the parking lot was packed. We had squeeze, precariously into a spot and pray for the best. I loved it already!! Inside the tables were packed, (it was the lunch time rush) I should have listened to Jossie and arrived early. The line to order was long, also the line to wait for your food was long. While we waited I scoped out the place, trying to get a table. Found one!! We reached the register, informed the cashier that it was our 1st time and she nicely educated us on the order process and what was good. I had read in a previous review that the coconut cake was amazing but it was gone. (ssad). We ordered burgers and she suggested next time we should try the fried shrimp, I said, we are headed home and don't know when we will return, so give it to me now. She also suggested since the burgers came with fries, I should try the onion rings, yes, please!! The food, my Little T-Burger, all the way, yellow american cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions and mayo, my beloved steak fries and my husbands, Big T burger with pepper jack cheese and ketchup. The most ginormous fried shrimp with a side of equally ginormous onion rings and a broccoli slaw with cranberries. As soon as we bit into those burgers, my husband, who believes food is just sustenance, looked at me and said, "this is good, real good. Like what my mom used to make by hand." That, people, is a serious compliment. Anything that reminds him of his mamas cooking is legit. They were not greasy, the patty fresh and light, it was hand shaped and stood up to the other elements. The toppings were fresh and crisp and my grilled onions were sweet and delicious. I do admit that next time I will order the Big T because by the very end my patty crumbled. The shrimp, which I could not finish, were soooo good. The freshness can be tasted, the breading was light and the seasoning was not needed because the sweetness of the fresh shrimp was enough. The onion rings were amazing, no breading slippage when I bit into them. The broccoli slaw was really good, the cranberries did it for me. Next time in Amelia Island I will definitely head back to T-Rays. read more

My experience at T-Rays was different than most of the reviewers here. I visited T-Rays for breakfast on the Friday before Labor Day weekend, and ordered the Western omelette. It sounded good on the menu, but it didn't look anything like an omelette (more like a large overcooked egg tortilla filled with ham and veggies) and the inside of the "omelette" was incredibly wet from the ingredients collected together inside. The grits were just alright, but the cheese topping overwhelmed them. The biscuit was average at best, and the orange juice was simply horrible. Sort of pitiful that a breakfast place in Florida can't serve decent orange juice. Worst of all, the countertops were slippery (i.e., not clean) and the utensils were slightly greasy. A couple of locals strongly recommended T-Rays, but I was very disappointed. read more

Gastropub....found this one on Yelp Walked in the door grabbed a menu, ordered at the counter and in less than 5 minutes our breakfast was served. Had the scramble- biscuit, sausage patties, eggs all smothered in the BEST country gravy I've ever had!! If you're on Amelia Island stop in a grab a bite; this place is worth the wait. read more

This is definitely a local gathering place. A gas station turned into a restaurant what's wrong with that? Seating on the outside and inside. Parking is kind of a free for all put doable. Tried the Big T's Combo with (Steak) fries. Very meaty. The hamburger is cooked on a flattop no charring here but was very tasty. This is one of the most unique and fun places to eat on the island! It's located in an old gas station and has all the local feels. We went after the "lunch rush" and it was still busy! You have to wait in line and snag a table, but service moved quickly and food came out fast despite a packed house! I got the big T Ray burger (phenomenal). My friend got the fried shrimp ( phenomenal) and another friend got the crab cakes( good but not my absolute favorite). The fries and coleslaw were both good as well as their homemade ranch, YUM! We ate so fast we forgot to take pictures! You really feel like a local at this dive whether or not you live on the island! read more

Came here while in Fernandina Beach on vacation after being told it was considered the best burger in Florida. Verdict: I gotta say, the burger was amazing, affordable, and worthy of its praise! Best diner burger I've had to date. Located in a former garage / gas station (some parking and the patio picnic tables are situated between gas pumps, kinda cool), T-Rays is certainly one of the more unique spots I've ever eaten at. You can tell locals really love this place; it was pretty busy at both breakfast and lunch and there was always a line (but it went fast). Parking can get kind of tight but service is quick so you could probably wait a bit and snag a spot as someone leaves. I also heard hours can vary a bit so you really want to check it out early. If you're here for the burger, lunch starts at 11:30AM. Ordering is done at the counter and your food brought out to you. It's a bit snug space-wise for larger groups, but we found a nice spot for our party of 4 on the patio at a picnic table. We all ordered the Big T Burger Combo ($9.50) with cheese (add $0.75) and everything on it; combo comes with fries and a drink. We also got the Fried Shrimp plate ($14.00) to share. I gotta say, the food was damn good. The fried shrimps were big and juicy, the burger was just the perfect diner burger: hot, juicy, fresh, loaded up generously. I would definitely recommend opting into all the fixings, because those really elevated the burger experience for me with all the added flavors and textures. For the price, T-Rays seriously serves up one of my favorite, no-frills burgers and is at a local, funky diner worth experiencing. It isn't your fine dining, gourmet burger, but it will certainly make you want to tuck in and stuff your face. I will definitely be back here on a future visit to try more of the menu, breakfast service, and the daily specials! read more

I would not eat here ever again. As a door dasher I am just trying to do my job when I pick up my order. I find it very disrespectful that the store allows its employees to make announcements to the entire restaurant about someone not filling a drink. As a door dasher, it is my job to pick up an order and take it to a customer. As the merchant, it is your job to fill the order. I felt very unsafe in this restaurant being treated with such disrespect and hatred. If I treated someone that way in my job, I would be fired immediately. I have searched for a great hamburger since I moved here a year ago and fount it at T-Rays. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Seating inside and out. Got the large burger platter and it did not disappoint. Burger was cooked to perfection and the fries were deleted. I'm a fan of hole in the wall places. My friend got the bologna sandwich and it looked good as well. It's a 45 minute drive from downtown Jacksonville in Fernandina Beach but I will be a regular at T-Rays. One word about your visit. These are unusual times and the staff is working diligently to provide good service under difficult circumstances. They have hand sanitizer everywhere which shows they are thinking of you the customer. Have a little courtesy and follow the public spacing guidelines. Help them help you. COVID-19 won't last forever and we can get back to the usual. In the mean time make some good memories of going the extra effort to be a good customer. read more

We went to T-Rays twice during a March visit to Amelia Island. We love the food and ambience and it is a MUST during every trip. Both times I had the shrimp plate and slaw. We sat outside and reminisced about our visits over the years and even back in the old days. When we got our food, the shrimp were delicious and so fresh I felt I could taste the 'salt' from the ocean!
