Busy location! Stopped by this T4 location in Millbrae one evening looking for refreshing boba drink. T4 is a Taiwanese bubble tea chain similar to Tapioca Express and Quickly. For those who are new to bubble teas, they are tea-based drinks which often includes a mix of tea, milk and chewy tapioca balls or fruit jellies. If you ever wondered why the super huge straws it's because of the quarter-inch, marble-sized boba that has to go through the straw. The menu, as all other T4's, had amazing selection of fun, flavorful, and fascinating beverages but I always get my coffee flavored milk tea with boba. I don't drink coffee but I will consume it in smoothie form... with boba! Always delicious and hits the spot. We also ordered their scrumptious Basil Popcorn Chicken, which was totally addicting, and also some fried chicken wings. We ate in. One side of the wall had a huge white shelf filled with board games which is a signature feature in all T4 cafe shops. They are free to use to patrons. Not sure when this location opened but it looks fairly new and modern inside. The white furniture seating makes the place look neat and clean. Solid milk tea! The only thing is that the location is filthy. Compared to other milk tea places, this isn't the best place to hang out with friends or study for an upcoming exam. I came in to get some Taro Milk Tea and couldn't really find a place to sit because it was either occupied with people or garbage. T4, more like NO Tea 4 me, please! I ordered the Taro Milk Tea drink with boba pearls and I don't even know where to begin. The Taro flavor was not strong and it was very gritty. The boba didn't have a chew to it. It seemed like they were overcooked. When I used my straw to stir the drink, it was looking like a suspension. Things were floating in it. Maybe it was the Taro powder separating. I couldn't even drink half of it. I took a few sips and then just tossed it. Even Quickly's tarp drink tastes better. Was in the mood for a sweet drink and I just happened to be in area. I knew I wanted some milk tea so I decided to check out my bookmarks and see if there was a place in the area. Luckily, I was able to find T4 and that was a good decision. I was able to find parking right around the corner from T4 which was great! When you walk in you immediately identify the menu on the wall to the right. The menu layout does remind me of Quickly just a bit but the menu here seems more eye catching and cleaner. The drinks are similar but the flat screens around the counter present the drinks in a manner that makes the drinks here more desirable, I LOVE THAT. I wound up getting a chocolate milk tea and my personal favorite, Thai Milk Tea. There is plenty of seating as well. I'm not sure about Wifi. If you are looking to study here I would say this place could work for you but beware that most of the parking in the area is 2 hours! As for the drinks, the Thai Milk Tea was good as was the boba. There was a balance in sweetness and that made for a good tasting milk tea. This place has a whole lot more to offer than just milk tea but in just assessing my drinks, they hit the mark. Been to the T4 location in Natomas a lot and I love their drinks. Now that I am back and Millbrae opened one how can I pass up visiting this location. Drinks: I would say the drinks are pretty good and consistent with the other locations I have been to. I ordered the elegant rose aloe and there were rose petals in my drink! Snacks: Of course the most popular popcorn chicken! Every piece was some crunchy goodness. Try out the spices at the counter because it is super yummy. There's happy hour here and a student discount so expect a ton of people here! But it is definitely worth it. I love boba and have been here 20+ times. There's just something about the classical rose milk tea they make here I can't get enough of. Also, their boba quality is very consistently good. I love a lot of boba places around the bay, but many times even top-tier places have 'off days' where the boba is too hard / soft / undercooked / flavorless. I've only had one 'off day' with T4's boba after going 20+ times, and it wasn't even bad (slightly too soft). To be honest, I'm really surprised that more of my Yelp friends (or people that I follow) haven't reviewed this T4 yet, especially since I know some of you guys/gals are true boba fiends. Then again, it's not as surprising as how long it took for a legit boba joint to open up around here (this is downtown MillbrAsia, after all). Yes, I'm aware there's a Quickly just a block away, but do they really count when they barely qualify as competition? Talk about setting a low bar of expectations... Visually, T4 is pretty attractive; the space is newly renovated and the decor is bright and clean. However, the menu looked even better - several drink varieties are offered with an even wider range of teas to pick from. Despite how unique some of them sounded though, I opted to go with just an EARL GREY MILK TEA with Boba ($3.45 +$0.50). Although my usual measuring stick for new boba joints is a Black Milk Tea, I thought it'd be nice to mix it up a bit (read: I couldn't find the Black Milk Tea on the menu...). While I did ask for "only a little bit" of boba (and still got a good amount), I didn't modify the drink itself in any way since I wanted to see what T4's "standard" is like. I figured it'd be overly creamy and sweet and, unfortunately, I was right on both counts. Oddly, the drink felt a little runny as well, which only further diluted the taste of the tea. What little I could pick up wasn't half bad though. As for the boba, it was actually pretty solid, as it had just the right chew to it. Even despite the lack of alternatives, T4 isn't too shabby, especially if you're in the area and looking for a quick milk tea/boba fix. At the very least, it's by far a better choice than the Quickly a block away (their Millbrae location is one of their worst). However, it's definitely not a destination spot you should go out of your way for. Instead, if you're willing to make the 10 minute drive, head to Sharetea in San Mateo for a better bet. read more

I ended up getting the Roasted Oolong Tea: 0% sweetness ($2.75), add Pearl (+$0.50), Grass jelly (+$0.50). The tea had great flavor. The boba was soft and chewy while the grass jelly was nice and silky. I enjoyed my drink. T4 is a fun place for kids as they have games you can play with. I played a couple games with my cousin's kids and had a blast. The kids enjoyed Apples to Apples which reminded me of a children's version of Cards Against Humanity. I do appreciate that pricing for their drinks looks pretty consistent with the San Leandro T4, even though cost of living is higher out here in Millbrae. The interior is spacious and clean. They utilize FiveStars for their rewards program. They also have many games available. Their staff seems a bit slow. They seem to have one person making drinks, while the other staff just stand around. We waited 10 minutes for 2 drinks on an empty, rainy day! Other than that, staff is pretty friendly. The only qualm I have is that their boba is much too sweet. I usually order my drink at 50% or 80% sweetness and ice. The tea will be perfectly sweetened, but the addition of boba would make the drink far too sweet for my liking. Wish they could tone down the sweetness there! However, if you are not satisfied with your drink, you could always have them remake it, free of charge. Free wifi and games makes it a great spot to chill. I feel most boba milk tea shops charge around $3.50+ per drink nowadays. I've only been here a couple of times, once during a slow weekend and another during HH. All I can say when comparing the two is be prepared for a long wait during HH. Lines are long, and there are online pickup orders to factor into the wait time too. The basil popcorn chicken takes a few minutes to prepare, but they're delicious. A combination of white and dark meat pieces were coated in a light and crispy batter. The fried basil leaves - only a depressing two dainty leaves - were light and airy. I wished they gave more, as I love fresh basil. I've tried the roasted oolong milk tea and the classic rose milk tea. Both were delicious, creamy, and not too sweet. I could actually taste the tea, which is almost rare since these drinks tend to be overly and sickeningly sweetened to the point where you can't pick up the tea flavors. The boba was good too, with consistent texture and chewiness. I appreciate how T4's regular size drinks are 16 oz, as many others boba shops are at least 20 oz.
