I tried the Tabu Tacos, and the AguaChiles. The decor and ambiance is amazing and makes you feel like you're in Tulum or Miami Where I think things could be improved is just service, our server Valentina was extremely nice and friendly. We waited a while for our drinks and had to ask for water and napkins a few times and ultimately waited over 15 minutes for our check after asking twice. They ended up comping our drinks, and surprised me with a birthday dessert The place is very charming. Tabú has been on my restaurant list for nearly two years, so I was genuinely excited to finally visit for my friend's birthday. Based on what I had seen online, I expected a beautiful restaurant with great food and service. Unfortunately, the experience was the complete opposite. We arrived at 8:45 PM and immediately encountered problems. After ordering, we waited approximately 45 minutes just to receive our drinks and a very small appetizer. During that entire time, no one came to our table to acknowledge the delay, provide an update, or apologize for the wait. When I finally brought it up to our waitress, her response was simply that they were "busy." I completely understand that restaurants can get busy, but that does not excuse the lack of communication or basic customer service. What made it even more frustrating was that we were seated in the back area, and we watched every other table around us receive their food, finish their meals, pay, and leave, while we were still waiting. At that point, I asked multiple times to speak with a manager. Despite asking repeatedly, no manager came to our table. Eventually, our waitress, who had been extremely rude and inattentive throughout the experience, told us that she was the manager. That was honestly even more concerning. If you are the manager, you should be the person taking responsibility for a situation like this, communicating with your customers, and making an effort to resolve the issue, not avoiding the table until repeatedly asked. We then specifically requested to speak with the General Manager on duty, and once again, we were left waiting. By the time the GM finally came over, we had been waiting roughly three hours for our entrées. The GM told us he would "take care of us." Unfortunately, that did not amount to much. Four drinks were comped, two of which were simply Cokes, and a "complimentary" birthday dessert was essentially dropped off at the table. Even the utensils were brought over and dropped off in a way that felt dismissive rather than hospitable. I rarely leave negative restaurant reviews. In fact, I usually try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, even when service is poor. It takes a lot for me to feel compelled to write a review this lengthy. This experience was not simply about a long wait. It was the complete lack of communication, accountability, urgency, and genuine customer service. Mistakes and delays happen in the restaurant industry. What matters is how you handle them. Unfortunately, Tabú handled this situation extremely poorly from beginning to end. And after everything, the food itself was mediocre at best, which made the entire experience even more disappointing. I had been looking forward to visiting Tabú for nearly two years, and unfortunately, it did not come close to living up to the expectations created by its online presence. I will not be returning, and I strongly encourage management to reevaluate how customer complaints, service delays, and guest experiences are being handled. read more

Wow, I'm so happy we finally got to try this spot! From the moment we walked in, the hostess/waitress was so warm and welcoming. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and I loved that the music wasn't blasting -- we could actually enjoy our conversation during dinner. My husband surprised me with an early Mother's Day date night and it ended up being such a good choice. The food was honestly amazing. We started with the Shrimp Ceviche, Pistachio Guacamole, and fish tacos. The guacamole completely stole the show for us - probably one of the best we've had. The flavors were so good and there was this little sweet surprise in it (I think maybe pomegranate?) that made it even better. The ceviche was also packed with flavor... so good I basically finished the whole thing myself . My husband said the fish tacos were his least favorite, so I skipped trying them. For our mains, I got the branzino and WOW... absolutely delicious. My husband had the enchiladas and loved them too. I would have definitely given it more stars for the food but the service was beyond horrible. Valentina was about server and from the very beginning she had the worst attitude. We went to brunch, just a group of girls, and decided to try this place. I had it on my list of places to go to for some time and was really looking forward to it. The restaurant is smaller than I expected but was really nice inside. There is a. Ice outdoor area that we said maybe we could try another time when the weather allowed... maybe not. There was only one other table dining while we were. The server came and took our order but never asked if we wanted drinks. We ordered the Guacamole and Aguachile de Pescado to start. We asked several times before ordering if the fish was cooked and was told every time that it was. The fish came uncooked. The Guacamole came with a large chip and a half, there were 4 of us dining. We had to order extra chips which only came with 3 chips and unbeknownst to us, it cost $3. For the meals, we ordered the Caesar Salad with shrimp, Caesar Salad with grilled chicken, TABÚ Tacos but only with shrimp, and the Steak and Eggs. The food was really good! We ordered Other than the uncooked fish, there was no complaints about the rest of the food. Everything was really delicious. We even ordered the churros and they were amazing. When the server returned to take the food, we told the server that the fish was uncooked and she kept telling otherwise. Out of the entire appetizer there were 2 pieces missing. The server then told us she couldn't remove it from the bill. We asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager. She appeared to be the only server. Valentina was so rude, she walked away from us after rolling her eye and started talking about us to someone behind the counter. If not for her and her attitude, we would have definitely returned. To start service was great and drinks were delicious. Started with the guacamole which was excellent, followed by steak shrimp tacos and Baja fish taco both very good. I had the branzino for my entrée, which was flaky, soft, and very flavorful with a cucumber salad on the side. My friends ordered the skirt steak which was good, but the refried beans were served on top of the steak. Personally I think that should be on the side unless noted on the menu. For dessert we had tres leches and flan. Tres leches was a big hit! Unfortunately the flan was not good, but the staff handled it very well. They replaced it right away and the manager came over to apologize and explained they're working with a new chef. He even brought over a complimentary creamy coffee liqueur shot which was a nice touch. Came here with my aunt last Thursday and it was great! We came around 7pm and it wasn't super busy which was nice. Noticed they had an outdoor bar area that wasn't quite open yet but will definitely check out in the summer! The pistachio guacamole was absolutely amazing, I've never had anything like it. What a beauty! Came to celebrate, left a fan. It was empty on a Saturday at 6pm. However it worked in our favor because we got all the attention. Our Server was great and we had the whole beautiful backyard to ourselves for pictures. It felt like a beautiful oasis. Food was yummy. Tacos, corn, drinks, rice, guacamole. If I could leave no stars for my experience, I would. I went to this restaurant yesterday for my friend's birthday and had a terrible experience altogether. We spent over 3 hours seated, most of that time was allotted to waiting on our food and going back and forth with our hostess who also happened to be the manager.. but still did nothing to make our experience even slightly better. There was little to no accommodation even after expressing our disappointment and frustration. My favorite Mexican restaurant used to be down the block from here, but if Ajay Devgn is having an affair with Tabu, then I let myself cheat on For All Things Good with Tabú. The prices are high, the automatic gratuity gives off a certain impression, and the Tulum-esque ambiance serves to remind me of perhaps my least favorite geography of Mexico. But the cocktails are nonetheless well-executed, and the guacamole with a bit of charred queso fresco was excellent. Unfortunately, the evening took a nosedive when, over 90 minutes after placing our order, we were informed that the kitchen had run out of food--yes, entirely out. No alternative entrées were offered, and the meal ended with complimentary drinks and only one appetizer on the bill. So upset to say this was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. I chose this place for my birthday celebration and was so disappointed by the service and lack of professionalism from the managerial staff. We waited for our food for about 2 hours with minimal checkins. Our waitress, who also revealed herself as a manager, seemed disinterested and not concerned. I have never asked to speak to a manager but it was necessary. After expressing that we were upset about the long wait and were now late to later plans, it seemed as though all the staff were in on making sure we regretted speaking up. My "birthday cake" was carelessly put in front of me, no candle, no acknowledgment. No water refills for our entire 3 hr dinner. Side eyes and attitude. After being promised some things on our bill comped, the bill came back unaffected and we had to go seek out the general manager after waiting for him to show up for 30 minutes, only to find him seated and relaxing inside. When I came for a grad brunch a few Sundays ago, I was surprised that there were not too many parties considering it was prime brunch hours and the place was cute. I think the kitchen is super small, so that's why you can't make any modifications (including egg temp/ style- which I have never encountered before in life so you better be cool with a runny sunny side up egg.) Food was pretty good, but it just took forever and the portion sizes were mismatched. Large bowl of guac, with only three chips was diabolical. Since the drinks are unlimited- they should really think about improving their operations by introducing carafes or pitchers rather than constantly coming around with new glassware. All in all, I got here at 1:30 and left at 6:30 and ultimately ended up at L'industrie for a slice before riding the J home. Elevated mexican food, cool drinks and lovely host. We had the tartar to start, which was fresh and so tasty. The glaze on bottom was different and elevated the dish. The guac was cool, 6/10. The maduro with cream and crumbled cojita cheese was 12/12. It's the epitome of comfort food. THE FISH TACOS!! Stop and listen... they were 12/10 the best ever WOW.. a must !! The sangria was a nice fruity, not too sweet balance of wine and fruits. But actually speechless... truly the most beautiful restaurant in Williamsburg! I came here for my birthday dinner and it was the best decision ever. First of all, you are immediately transported to Tulum when you walk into this majestic restaurant. My boyfriend kept telling me that he felt that we were at a resort. This was my first time at Tabu. I was looking forward to seeing the elaborate outdoor dining space and the Tulum dancers Saturday night. Sadly due to rain, I was unable to experience them. Fortunately the food saved the day! It was delicious and appealingly plated. The short rib mini sopes, the pulpo tacos, branzino and carne asada were worth the trip to Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The cocktails were fun and quite good! For dessert we had tequila tres leches and flan. The top of the tres leches was flambéed into a yummy caramelized sugar crisp goodness! We had a 12:00 PM reservation on February 14th, complete with a credit card requirement in case of cancellation. We drove in from New Jersey specifically for this place because the food looked good online and we wanted to try it for a special occasion. We arrived exactly at 12:00 PM and found the doors locked. No sign. No explanation. Nothing. After standing outside confused, I had to call the restaurant. A man answered and told me he wasn't even there and said he would "call them to open the door." We stood outside in the cold waiting like idiots while nothing happened. I then had to walk around the entire property searching for another way in, nearly slipping in a courtyard, just to find an alternate entrance. I finally reached the bar area and asked if they were open. I was told yes--and then had to walk back around again just to enter through the front door. Not a single apology. Not even basic acknowledgment of how ridiculous this situation was. We were seated, menus were dropped on the table, and the server walked away. Only then did we realize we were given a very limited prix fixe menu with two appetizers and two entrees. This was never disclosed when booking. When my fiancée politely asked if there was another menu, the response was a flat, dismissive "No, that's what we have today." No explanation. No effort. No care. Between the locked doors, staff who clearly didn't want to be there, misleading reservation expectations, and zero hospitality, this place managed to ruin what was supposed to be a special day before we even ordered food. We were a party of 6, and even though the restaurant was maybe 80% full, the service was beyond atrocious. It took forever after being seated to even get menus, and we had to ask multiple times just to get water. When the server finally came to explain the menu--10 minutes after we already had it--he asked if we had any questions or were ready to order, but before we could even respond, he just walked away! We were left stunned. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa, but both came with so few chips that we had to ask for extras. We weren't told that there would be an extra charge (which we would've been fine with), but the worst part? It took 20 minutes and multiple reminders for the extra chips to arrive. When they finally did, we were only given 1 extra serving, but we were charged for 2. Speaking of the bill--it was a nightmare. We waited 15 minutes before having to walk to the bar to find someone. Even then, it took another 10 minutes for it to arrive, and when it did, it was the wrong table's check (we honestly should've just paid it since it was cheaper!). We had to go back to the bar again to get the correct check, only to notice we were charged for two servings of chips but only got one. We had to get that corrected too. As for the food, it was actually not bad but severely overpriced. I get that they're trying to create a trendy Tulum vibe, but the price-to-value ratio is ridiculous given the abysmal service. I wasn't even planning to write this review until I noticed that all of the negative reviews on Google were getting buried under a flood of suspicious 5-star reviews. Many of them are from accounts with only 1 or 2 reviews, posting at odd hours. This needs to be a warning: Do not go to Tabu. The experience isn't worth the headache or the price. read more

Despite multiple empty seats at the outdoor bar, I was told they were reserved, which made no sense since people were standing without seats. Finally, Carlos seated me at the indoor bar, which was filthy and poorly managed. When we were eventually seated outside, our waiter was confused, and our food took forever. Entrees arrived before appetizers, some of which never even came. The chips and guac had just three chips for four people, and despite asking multiple waiters for more, they never arrived. To top it off, rats were running along the walls, and the neighbor in the adjacent building threw a bucket of water over the backyard, drenching our table and food. Carlos and Atif, who I think is the owner, did nothing but take pictures and talk among themselves, offering no apology or explanation. When they finally acknowledged us, minutes later, they simply offered to move us, which was too little, too late. At this point I just wanted to pay the bill and escape the madness. I've dined all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, and beyond, and this was like a bad episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm or Seinfeld. They tried but the vibes were not it. The carnitas were delicious and perfectly seasoned. This was my favorite dish. Octopus tacos- 9/10. The only reason it's not a 10 for is me because the octopus was very chewy. The seasoning was good along with the pico and avocado that accompanied it but the chewiness threw it off a bit. Perhaps it just wasn't cooked perfectly. The service was decent. I felt attended to but it was nothing over the top. The Tulum ambience is definitely there. The music, the dancers, the decor...it feels like you're in Mexico. The biggest letdown was the miscommunication (or false advertising) around the drink package. We were told via email that the $40 drink package would include sangria, beer, and margaritas, but when we arrived, they claimed it only covered sangria and beer. Even after showing our waitress the email, she simply dismissed it and said that's not what's included. No apology, no attempt to make it right. On top of that, service was painfully slow. The waitress seemed uninterested and unfriendly, which made the experience feel even worse. It's true what they say--expectations can lead to disappointment. I made a reservation weeks in advance after seeing some amazing Instagram posts about this restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. From the start, the host was unfriendly and borderline hostile, setting the tone for the evening. The food and drinks were just okay--nothing memorable. Speaking of drinks, the incredible cocktails you see all over social media? Not sure where they were, because in the three hours I was there, I didn't see anything that stood out. Social media also makes the place seem bigger than it actually is. While there's nothing wrong with a small space, it's worth knowing in advance if you're expecting something more spacious.
