The servers are very friendly and really nice. We ordered two pastas, the steak and the fried calamari and shrimp combo. The pastas were good and perfect size for one person. The steak was really big! But some of it was quite tough while some of it was good. The flavor was good though. The calamari and shrimp however was delicious! I could've eaten a whole mother order of! Light, crispy, and very simply seasoned with salt. Plus it was so crispy you could eat the shrimp with shell and legs and everything. Looks small on the outside, but as you walk towards the back of the restaurant, there are stairs that lead to another spacious dining room. I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the room and how nicely set the tables were. The waiters were super friendly and made us feel welcomed. The food presentation was on par. If you like burrata cheese, get the lasagna with the burrata on top. It's super creamy and adds extra texture to the lasagna. The pasta was cooked al dente, but my pallet was wanting a little more salt (this may may just be me). Otherwise, the lasagna was good. The seafood carbonara isn't the classic carbonara that you would expect in terms of flavor. If you like seafood, then you many like this dish. There's plenty of seafood in this dish to satisfy your craving. The gnocchi lacked flavor IMO. Wasn't a fan. But if you like gnocchi, then you may like this dish. It's simple, but could have more flavor. The restaurant overall was pleasant and the menu has a good variety. It's prices are in line with most like restaurants in the area. Server attitude was a problem, not that they're not nice but very selfish Whole foods are worse than Italian foods in other countries. Firstly, it took a long time to order, and the server did not take customers' sequence to order. I asked if the glass of wine is white or red, the server kept telling me they have red and white of house wine while there is another "house of wine" on the menu. Very confusing. When I asked if they have truffle pasta, they immediately showed me a big board, which was displayed in front, that was very dusty and very close to my table. The guest next to me asked how much are the chips and olives, which I know are complementary in this area. Meanwhile, I told them I didn't get those, yet they just pretended they don't understand till I asked again. When I ask if the truffle pasta is pasta or linguine, the server told me linguine is pasta, which is what I meant by they're selfish and not answering my question. The truffle pasta came with cheap ingredients, and I see no real truffle which the server told me there is. House white wine is smooth but no flavor. read more

Stumble into a place and eat- don't worry about the menu- the are 100% all the same in Rome!! They are all about the same- service, for us, always with a smile. Pasta Amatriciana is the go-to. Roman artichokes (come early to get them here) and roasted vegetables...the dinner of choice when in Rome. Had a huge salad, with about 1/2 lb of tiny Mozzarella balls, tuna, corn, cukes, egg, olives...all the toppings. The worse place I tried in Rome and I only had drinks here! Why you ask? Don't be fooled by the 5€ take away drinks as you pass by. My husband and I wanted drinks before dinner and this place offered drinks and we were just really tried from walking around all day. I had a piña colada and he had a caipirosca. They also gave a side of what seemed like Chex mix which they probably charged for. The service fee and two drinks and all the extras they add to the bill we ended up having to pay 30€. Track tip: Do not go into an establishment that has someone outside telling you to have a drink or dinner. read more

For almost 50 euro we got a lukewarm prosciutto cheese pizza (uncut and with crust so thick I could have used a chainsaw instead of the knife they issued me), a Caesar salad, two green salads, and a bottle of still water. The salads were not bad - just very average, is all. It was "air conditioned" at least, and near the insanely crowded Trevi fountain they had benches (picnic style) so it is a place to sit down out of the heat. Service was fair but again, just average. We decided to go back to the Trevi Fountain area after being in there the night before and seeing many restaurants. We like the look and menu at Taberna so decided to give it a shot. The front entry area has picnic style tables with the main dining and more formal area to the back and downstairs. We ordered salad, potatoes, spaghetti with clams, veal saltimbocca and the chicken cutlet. The food was very good but quite a bit more expensive than other restaurants in the area. I tend to avoid restaurants that employ staff on the side of the streets who persuade passersby to stop in for a bite to eat, but I'm glad I broke my own rule this time around. The atmosphere was an interesting mix of rustic Italian and hip/pop culture. The wait staff was friendly, and the menu had a handful of options for each 'course' of the meal. The prices were a bit steep, and the combo meal packages weren't flexible (e.g. couldn't substitute the house wine for another, or chicken for veggies), but the portion sizes were fairly generous. Had dinner there and it is a cozy restaurant. It was crowded and we were put in the cellar. They tried to upsell us on everything but luckily the service and food were good. Pasta carbonna was ok; my husband thought it was too creamy: we had it 3 days in a row and it was ok. After checking into our apartment in Rome we decided to go out and take a walk then find somewhere to have dinner. We walked down our street (lane) and found several all within about 100 feet of our front door. The second one was Taberna. After visiting about 5 more and checking menus we went back to Taverna. The 'Greeter' at the front door was very polite, friendly and professional as she turned us over to a server. The seating is bench style so we asked for a chair because I get a sore back if the seating doesn't have a back. I was easily accommodated. We ordered a bottle of wine and bruschetta to start and the bruschetta was lovely with perfectly ripe and full chopped tomato. After that we both ordered the Fettuccini a la Fungi. It was one of the best we'd ever had. Abundant porcini mushrooms with a luscious mushroom sauce over handmade pasta. With added cheese it was perfect. By the end of the evening we had been served by several different waiters and had developed a rapport with almost all of them. This made for a most pleasant meal especially as it was our first since all the stress of traveling to Rome from Oregon! We noticed that there was another dining room downstairs in a basement area and found out that it was indeed the same restaurant. The next evening we decided to go back and try it out again. Consistently excellent we once more happily enjoyed the meal and the jovial commraderie of all the servers and staff. Also the dining room downstairs was very elegant and beautiful with hand-painted murals covering the entire walls and ceilings. On our third day, we were very tired after a busy day exploring this amazing city so we went back for a third time and the staff was totally honored that we came back again. And it wasn't like we hadn't been trying other local restaurants in the area for lunch and small plates . . . The whole place including food, people, location and ambiance just made it a place we felt very at home in. We would highly recommend Taverna Patricii et Plebel to anyone! read more

My family and I (11 people) walked up to the door at 10:55pm trying to get seated for a very late dinner, knowing that they would be closing soon. Ok so, part of it is our fault for not asking questions. We stopped outside the place to read the menu, and a nicely dressed female enticing diners tried to lure us in. When we asked if they served steak (because we couldn't see any on the menu), she said yes. We sat down and checked the menu again, but no steak. I ordered the veal, and it was very dry, even with the gravy it was sitting on. The rest of the food was ok, but the waitress kept offering us extra things, like an cold cut appetizer that she claimed was the special, meatballs for my daughters pasta, and bread for the table. Overall, those three things cost us an additional 38 euro. Like I said earlier, partly our fault for not asking questions but we didn't expect a appetizer "special" to cost over 20 euro. Do not eat here, it's horrible! After walking around the city looking for a place to eat and not having any luck without reservations, we came upon this restaurant. The hostess was outside trying to get people to come in (that should've been a sign to run for the hills but I was so hungry and tired from walking around all day). To summarize, the food was bland and the ravioli was cold in the middle like it was from a microwave, they charge 4 euro (which is $4.80) for tap water, the wine was not good, and they charged a 10% fee on top of everything. I wish I would've saved the 80 euro I spent on dinner and had street pizza and a gelato instead. I warn you, do not fall for this tourist trap!!! read more

There is a tourist tax and I have been to many restaurants in the area during my trip and was never charged the tax (10%). They also display in and out of the restaurant that there is WiFi when ours didn't work at all as well as A/C which was also not even on. My husband ordered a combo meal that came with lasagna that was tasty, some pork dish that was okay, beer, espresso, and ice cream. The menu called it gelato but it tasted like soft serve.
