BEWARE OF HIDDEN FEES!! I wish I could give zero stars. We had a group of 11 for my friend's birthday and the experience was a disaster from start to finish. The service was not good. Although our server was nice, she was often slow and not readily available. She and other runners/servers did not bring many things we ordered/asked for. 1 friend never got his side of pasta for his entire meal, another did not get his glass of wine when others who ordered at the same time as him got theirs. My girlfriend had to ask 3 times for a steak knife and we were constantly begging for basic items like drinks and ketchup. The predatory billing practices here are shocking: 20% Automatic Gratuity: ok, this is not unusual for large groups in many resistant, but clearly explained why the staff felt no need to actually serve and take care of us. 10% "Living Wage Fee": A mandatory tax on the customer because the owner refuses to pay their staff properly! Never experienced this fee firsthand only saw it online. An absolute joke to expect us to give an extra 10% to your staff because you're not paying a reasonable salary! $30 Cake Slicing Fee: We brought a birthday cake. They stored it and brought it out, but we ended up taking it home without them ever touching or slicing it. They still had the nerve to charge us $30 just for the "privilege" of having it in the building. When we spoke to the manager about the 10% surcharge, he acted like we were the problem and talked about how they are trying to make a living. We were all asking ourselves why he's not paying them a fair salary?? why is it our responsibility to pay even more, particularly for poor service! The food is fair at best and wildly overpriced. Definitely go anywhere else as this place is an overpriced tourist trap with lousy service! read more

The restaurant is cute & quaint, and perfect for an intimate dinner. The food & drinks themselves were just alright though. We got a blackberry lemonade & margarita - the lemonade was virtually tasteless and was like lightly flavored sparkling water, definitely not worth the $10. The margarita was also pretty weak for the steep price. Food wise, we got whipped ricotta, eggplant parm & sunday sauce. - The whipped ricotta was a bit too thin/liquidy which made for interesting texture, but the pita was good. - Sunday Sauce was good! Probably my favorite thing from the night, the meatballs (2) were especially tasty. Again, sauce here was a bit too thin. - Eggplant Parm had a beautiful coat of melty cheese but the eggplants themselves left much to be desired. Instead of being coated and fried, they almost felt boiled? Not sure how to explain it, but I would try something else. The service was good, nothing to write home about, but not bad overall. Tabla was a quaint little place. Very small seating area on the main floor but seemed to host larger parties upstairs. The drinks were very balanced and sometimes felt too boozy (maybe I'm just sensitive). The food hit it out of the park! Everything was so flavorful. The staff wasn't super helpful or knowledgeable.. one of the dishes we had ordered had sausage in it and I asked if it was spicy or sweet sausage and she looked at me and said I think it's pork. It was a serious wait what moment ‍ like of course it's pork but is it spicy or sweet? It was sweet haha but we'll definitely go back if we're in the area again. read more

This was my first time here, unfortunately the service and food were very lacking. We arrived for dinner and we were seated next to the restrooms, I kindly asked if we could switch tables and the server said it was not possible even though the restaurant was basically empty. Then shortly after, another couple arrived and they also asked to switch tables, and they were accommodated. So what was the issue then? Now onto the food, we ordered the Sunday Sauce and the Chicken Parm. The first dish was great. However the chicken parm was basically cold/luke warm -- this noticeable because the restaurant was freezing and we wanted something to warm up with. We let the server know about the issue with the food and she said she'd look into it. In the end since I ate most of it, she didn't even offer a discount. I wanted to like this place & went in with very high hopes. The menu is thematically disjointed, and the price point for the appetizers is too high. Marinated mini mozzarella balls with some pita for $15?! The vinegar chicken was not great - tough chicken, and I think the "chef" did not taste the sauce - it needed about 1/2 tsp of salt sprinkled on it (I ended up uncapping the salt shaker to get enough out to get the seasoning correct). Overall a very un-exciting dish. The rigatoni was better, but pasta was undercooked; seasoning was correct. Would have been nice if waitress brought a spoon so it was easier to eat the sauces on the dishes. The German cheesecake was also a joke (picture attached). Who decorated this? A 2 year old?!? Went last season and it was good. This time, not really. Service so so. There was something gritty/ sand in my food. Like stones or shells. Too small to identify but pretty gross. Inedible. The waitress took it, came back 5 minutes later and asked if I wanted anything else but my party was finished and the wait for our mains had been very long so declined. No apology, not a cent off the bill. Food unexciting otherwise. I hate to give bad reviews in this economy but if you're struggling as a restaurant financially, one thing that you CAN do is be attentive and nice. Overall the most expensive meal out of our 4 day trip up here (10000% recommend Cucina) Tabla was over priced and we were so looking forward to this meal but it was just overall bad, did not live up to expectations. We started with their bread with the feta dip and the sardines. The bread was extremely below average (coming from a home bread baker). "The sardines (out of the can) were the best thing I had" - my partner The feta dip had no flavor unless you were eating the top with the honey on it. Feta itself has so much flavor, but this lacked any flavor. We also ordered the shrimp. These still had visible veins (the poop), they were rubbery and overcooked, and came out cold? We ordered the cavatelli and the risotto My partner said the risotto reminded him of a prison meal, it needed salt and pepper and just had no flavor in general. The cavatelli was bland, visually appealing, but no flavor. The chocolate Negroni was good, they were dog friendly, allowed me to bring my service animal. In their defense, it was a Saturday evening around 7 PM. We didn't have reservations, but they were able to seat us at the bar. Their first point of contact--a young man at the front wearing a baseball cap and with scraggly hair, who was also waiting tables--didn't have the best demeanor (I'll leave it at that). The food was mediocre, and the prices were high. When the bill came, I noticed a 10% "living wage fee." Maybe they were fully booked for the next 30 to 40 minutes, which is completely fine, but that still does not justify the rude attitude. The host rolled his eyes and snapped, "You should have called ahead." Completely disrespectful. A simple, polite explanation would have been enough. We asked for a manager. He said he was the manager and even admitted he was rude. The owner came out and brushed it off as him "having a bad day." That was their response. It got worse after we shared our experience. The owner publicly called us liars and used "load of crap" type language. That tells you exactly how they handle criticism. We've been here before and tolerated high prices and average food because options nearby are limited. Not anymore. Service like this ruins the entire experience. Avoid this place. We found this restaurant on an unseasonably chilly evening, and the host was an angel. He greeted us warmly upon our entering, and escorted us immediately to the bar. The bartender was lovely and helpful, but had an air of someone whose creativity is stifled by an oppressive force. The wine was good, the mocktails were excellent, the fancy old fashioned was mid. Once we were seated, the server took our order with haste as if she were racing against the inexorable march of death. We had the dip trio; tapenade, baba ghanoush, and the best tatziki I have ever tasted in my life. It was all delicious and we ate with relish, undaunted by the air of creeping doom in the shadowy corners. After delivering our appetizers and a carafe of excellent water, our server succumbed to her fate and was not heard from again. It's said she still haunts the shores of the creek beside the establishment. The evening wore on, our conversation kept us occupied. Suddenly we looked up from conversation to find the dip bowls were empty and naught but crumbs remained of the pita. Every glass at the table was dry, as was the carafe that once held water. We did not yet know of the fate of the server. When we realized our predicament we sought help, casting anxious glances across the expanse of the place. It had been an hour since ordering. As the clock struck an hour and five minutes since ordering, the food arrived. Each plate more decadent than the last. A crisp salad to be envied, mouthwatering chicken cacciatore, a flank steak with fingerling potatoes - and then, as if our luck had indeed run out - a dish claiming to be cacio e Pepe which was clearly not. The thin grey sauce in which the pasta swam bore a vague resemblance to food. Again we sought assistance, begging an audience with the Great One, David. We knew what were in for, yet we saw no other option. There was fanfare, trumpets, and the entire air of the establishment shifted. The Event was Occurring. After the carpet was unrolled, a server - not ours, but another - set a chair beside the table, and David emerged. He mounted the chair so as to be taller than us while we were seated and looked down upon us. The light of gas lanterns lit the table as David stood on the chair and spoke down to us, silly silly women. He explained that we were wrong about the passage of time. Unbeknownst to us La Tabla exists with in a time warp. It had not been an hour since ordering, our clocks were all wrong. Besides, he said, people usually aren't in a rush. He did offer a replacement for the poor impression of cacio e Pepe. No sooner had Lord David left to replace the pasta - scant moments after our food had arrived - a server appeared asking if we wanted boxes. Had the time warp struck again? We were cast adrift in confusion. The bartender stopped by our table to see if we needed any other drinks before they closed the bar. Again, we could not trust our watches - for tho in the outside world there may have been an hour before they closed, within the walls of La Tabla it was closing time. The replacement pasta (penne à la vodka) was good, and when Lord David returned to the table he was significantly less patronizing, and comped us a round of drinks. It was as if there was a second, bizarro-world David who didn't strive to gaslight and condescend. We finished, paid the bill and escaped without further incident. The food we ate was good (we will ignore the failed first run at the pasta) and we would consider getting takeout again - especially that tatziki. The service left much to be desired, and we are sincerely concerned about that server. I hope she's ok. Absolutely delicious!!! Everything we tried was sooooo good. Big highlights were the dips (hummus, whipped feta - this was the ONE, muhammara) and pita, roasted chicken, Brussel sprouts, crispy potatoes, and desserts. The venue and space is super cute and intimate and spacious. They have a full bar with an outdoor balcony with fire pits. It was really cool chatting with the founder and hearing his story from running restaurants in the city to coming to the Catskills. Everyone working here was so friendly and kind and helpful. I was excited when I read about Mediterranean tapa style restaurant because that combines the best of both worlds for me. We had a 5:45 pm reservation and then waited for ~15 minutes for our outdoor table to be ready, even though we were asked our preference for seating via call half an hour prior. The interior and exterior space was rustic chic, overlooking a creek. We also enjoyed the mini fire pit in on the outdoor patio. Our waitress was friendly and down to earth. Please note also the 10% living wage fee. Onto the food-- overall the portions were smaller than expected for the price. I know it's tapas style but it was unclear while some of the "sides" were bigger than the "snacks." Marinated carrots- Notably had crispy chickpea that tastes like popcorn. I'm not sure if I liked that combination. The carrots were extremely sweet due soaking up all the honey. Eggplant caponata- I had anticipated this taste the best when I ordered, but the foccacia was not warm and the eggplant was too salty Sauteed broccoli- this was the best dish as a sour flavor came through beautifully given the harissa oil and aleppo Mixed greens- literally like your typical salad fare Charred asparagus- this was super lemony, a little too extreme The refresher- this is a refreshing non-ABV drink. We ordered two of these! The cucumber, mint and tonic was a brilliant combination to wind down with. We were considering ordering the vegetarian paella but it comes at a steep price of $55 and given the portions and the 20+ minute for it to be ready, we decided not to proceed. read more

We ate here on a rainy Saturday night and we loved how pretty and quaint it was inside. They had warm fires going out on the deck that overlooks the rushing river, adding to the cozy vibe. The food was also exceptional, from the starters to the entree to the dessert, everything was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The chimichurri chicken was the best chicken we have ever eaten and the blood orange panna cotta was the perfect finisher to a really excellent meal. We will be back for sure! read more

Kudos to the restaurant for its concern for customer satisfaction. We were served by a most pleasant waiter named Luke, whose smile and manner made for a feeling of welcome. We had ordered the appetizer of an artichoke which looked beautifully prepared and presented. The problem was there was hardly any artichoke on the leaves which made for a disappointing experience. I asked Luke the waiter, if I could speak to the cook and moments later Matt, apparently the manager appeared, asking what the issue was. After I explained, he apologized most sincerely and walked off. At last when the check was presented we were not charged for the appetizer which assures this business of come back business. One of the few places opened on a Sunday night. Basically a bar with some upstate looking tables. The server was nice but sketchy situation. First of all, this place is like a pizza place with some Spanish based foods. I ordered the crispy octopus which was probably decent but expensive for literally one leg of octopus. I'm from nyc, so ordering a margarita pizza, I can say is depressing. No fresh basil so no flavor of any herbs besides the dried basil I found. But the cook is pretty interesting considering they got that cheesy and crispy Parmesan side. But def not a margarita pie. In terms of entree, the paella was kinda of disgusting. Rice over cooked, burnt soccorat (crispy bottom), the liquid was abnormally acidic like maybe a cup of lemon juice. Idea is nice but the cook is lacking for a more pricey joint. Lastly the weirdest shit, I'm from nyc so tipping is normal but I have never seen a 10% living wage fee on the receipt?? Like do I tip? Since I'm already tipping for only a table of 2 people??? I have never left anything other than a five-star review, but this was hands down the WORST restaurant experience we have ever had. We'd traveled to the Catskills for the weekend to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday, and had booked the restaurant weeks ahead of time for a party of five, letting them know it was for a birthday dinner. When we arrived, even though we had made a reservation weeks in advance and they had a nearly empty restaurant, we were seated at the worst possible table right by the door to the street: the temperature outside was well below zero with windchills, and the temperature inside the restaurant was cold enough that several of us kept our coats on throughout dinner. Tabla has cozy upstairs seating with a fireplace: with a reservation several weeks in advance, there was no reason to seat us in a drafty booth right at the door. With our winter coats still on, we tried to make the best of it, and ordered two bottles of red wine for our table, one of them costing upwards of $140. When the wine arrived, both bottles were truly ice cold. No restaurant should be serving any red wine at this temperature, but for $140 a bottle, this was unacceptable. The staff made no acknowledgement or apology. We ordered food, with one person in our party who has life-threatening food allergies asking our server to confirm whether the kitchen could accommodate simple dietary needs (allergies to nuts and fish). The server was laid back and did not respect her very simple request (did not return to confirm to us whether she'd spoken to the kitchen), so our friend was unable to feel confident that her life-threatening allergies had been taken seriously, so she was ultimately not able to eat the meal she ordered and paid for. But the worst and most disrespectful aspect of our evening centered around an order of the trout: the menu lists the item simply as "grilled trout" (along with its side of chutney, potato, and green onion). When the fish arrived, it was a whole head-on, tail-on, bone-in trout. Industry standard and best practice universally follow describing fish on menus as "whole-roasted," or "served head to tail," when serving fish in this way. When fish is listed without these descriptors, it can almost ALWAYS be safely assumed that the fish is a headless, boneless, fillet. When we expressed surprise and discomfort when the fish arrived head-on and decided to ask the manager if the kitchen might be willing to remove the head for us, he was incredibly rude, halting and saying, "Well, they don't usually do that for people," before finally VERY unpfrofessionally whipping her plate up and almost hitting her in the face with it, muttering under his breath about her as he stormed off to the kitchen. At the end of our (freezing, uncomfortable, expensive) evening while we struggled to finish our ice-cold red wine, we tried to speak to the owner about his manager's behavior, and explain that we weren't trying to be difficult but were there for a special 40th birthday celebration that we were just trying to salvage at that point, and instead of an apology, the owner defended him, saying that there was nothing wrong with how the fish was labeled, and that the place was having a busy night with difficult customers upstairs, so the manager probably didn't mean anything by it. He finally, begrudgingly, offered to take the fish off the ticket (it had not been touched by us), and even then, when the bill came, the server sighed and gave us attitude, telling us it would "take a while," to use more than one credit card. Overall, it was the most incompetent, disrespectful, disappointing, overpriced, uncomfortable dining experience any of us have ever had, and none of us are people that EVER give service staff a hard time and, in fact, go out of our way to be accommodating and respectful. Avoid this place at all costs, and tell your friends. A nightmare on every single front. read more

Really wanted to love this place but my friend and I left with a (literal and figurative) bad taste in our mouths. The location is amazing and the staff is super nice! The appetizers were great but the downfall was the main dishes being totally flavorless (to the point where we didn't even eat them) and the additional 10% living wage charge that doesn't go towards the tip. We weren't given any kind of explanation when inquiring about (1) the fee in general & (2) why it's a staggering 10%. The restaurant really should be covering that as part of their employees wages and it feels pretty wrong to tack that onto the bill when also expected to provide a 20% tip on top. We are locals to the Catskills and decided to try a new kid on the block. Well, new to us. We had made reservations for 6:00p and we were promptly greeted by the team with a warm welcome. The table overlooked the Sawmill creek and the interior was nicely decorated. Check out the bar top and tiles as you walk in. Knowing it was Tapas style, we asked our server about the dishes and size for the two of us. She described them in detail and we were sold. They said that there isn't courses but the plates get bigger in size as we looked down the menu. Works for me so we ordered a handful of various plates and drinks. I knew we wanted to stay and enjoy the meal and environment so I asked to space all the plates out. The first three plates came out and they looked stunning. Only thing I noticed was that our shrimp dish came out, when I thought it was on the second round of spacing. No big deal, so we began to nibble on our meals and enjoy the cocktails. Then, we had two more plates come out within minutes. Problem was, we had only gotten a bite or two in and there wasn't any space on the table. I asked if we could push pause on the feast train and bring the rest out as we completed it. They were totally understanding and fixed the hiccup right away. Also, not even a concern given how amazing everything else has been. As the night went on, the plates came out and all tasted amazing! I wouldn't change anything and I can only imagine how delicious the other plates would be. It made me wanting more but I couldn't eat another bite. We ordered seven samplings and only got some photos of the variety. The drinks are top notch and go down very easy. The Paper Plane and the Spicy Martini are ones to order when you come. The front of house team are prompt and courteous and the back of house staff, lead by their new head chef are going to change the standards for everyone in the areas. There isn't much in town so it's hard not to notice the new guys on the block. I was in town to do my final run for the ski season at hunter mountain and decided to give this place a try for dinner. The restaurant is spacious and not overly packed with tables. It's dimly lit, with minimal decor and gives " Dumbo, Brooklyn hipster vibes." The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the crowd of people eating here. Young, lively, couples. Very different from what I'm use to seeing in this area of mostly families with children. Especially during off season. The food was good, however the service is definitely in need of improvement. My husband and I stood at the hostess stand for 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we walked in. While very friendly, our server visited our table only twice without us having to try and flag someone down for anything we needed. Once to seat us and the other to bring the check at the end of the night. Not once did anyone come over to ask how things were going, at any point during our meal, so I didn't even get a chance to order a second drink until asking for the check with dessert. We felt very "forgotten," even though we were in plain sight. My husband sat for 15 minutes without his entree and no explanation, after someone randomly dropped mine on the table without his. We were very confused and thought maybe they didn't put in his order. As we were just about to run out of patience, someone else randomly brought it to the table. * Also, be aware that on the menu there is simply printed "18% operation charge" which we assumed was gratuity until the check came explicitly saying it wasn't. As for the food, the LITTLE GEM SALAD was great. Very fresh and balanced. It was my favorite dish of the night THE HALF CHICKEN; ordered with a choice of harissa buffalo sauce was cooked very well but it was extremely salty. Almost inedibly salty. Also there was no trace of the harissa or buffalo. Not on the potatoes or the chicken. It was possibly forgotten. WHOLE BRANZINO; Full of bones, and needed seasoning. I personally feel that if the fish could be gutted and stuffed with veggies, it could also be deboned without destroying the presentation, assuming that was the reason it wasn't. BROWNIE; disappointingly dry and salty. I just don't think salted, whipped cream worked. I ordered dessert for something sweet to end the night and was met with more salt. It was very unexpected. This restaurant is still by far, the best of the area and I would visit here again if I'm in town for a second try. An excellent choice. We were on vacation and loved the menu. The only picture we didn't have was the salt cod appetizer. The place is beautiful and the food and service are excellent. It is pricey and the wine list could have used some 30-40 dollar bottles added. We stuck with cocktails because of this. We stayed in the Ala carte section which was plenty if food. read more

The ambiance was nice and the service was good. It always throws me off when restaurants add a "cost of living" fee to your bill. Uncomfortable for tipping. The food itself was decent but not memorable. The lighting was nice and cozy, good date night spot. read more

Ambiance:5/5 perfect cozy dinner after a day of skiing for a crowd that expects an elevated menu. Food:3.5/5 I greatly appreciate how unique their dishes were. Every dish for the most part had a unique addition to its ensemble - saffron, orange zest on corn bread, etc. A+ for effort. Beautiful presentation. However I do feel that most of them lacked in flavor. I think a few tweaks to the flavor profile of the dishes will make this restaurant a 5/5! read more

Full of hits and misses. Ambiance is nice especially if you get a creek view. The drink I wanted they were out of. The pasta I wanted they were out of. The sangria felt watered down. My boyfriends pasta (rigatoni) was solid and good. My pasta fell disappointingly flat. Pasta needed 1 more minute as it was a little underdone. The lobster did not taste fresh. Ended up stealing some of my bf's pasta as it was good. The star for sure were the nice staff and the good dips. From start to finish all I can say is....AMAZING. My husband and I came to Tannersville for a kid free weekend. Our waiter was charming, knowledgeable and awesome. We started with the shrimp with garlic (Cant remember the official name) but it was delicious. We both ordered the chicken and it completely fell off the bone when you touched it. Highly highly recommend. Side note, I need to thank the manager, bartender and the cook for their generosity. Our car broke down in 8 degree weather out front of Tabla. Not only did they help jump the car, but they were so helpful and understanding. I can't wait to come back. read more
