The vineyard is named after the nearby creek which has been flowing this year after a rainy season. Upon arrival our group was offered water bottles which would be returned to the winery. Two members of our group had a birthday and we shared it with the host and was faced with a cold reaction. The server however was very nice, sweet and knowledgeable both about wine and the property. The first drink of the flight was rosé which was very different than what I've ever had before. I would describe it as not so sweet and really refreshing wine. The red wine however was extremely dry which was loved my my group but not my favorite. The second flight was all red wine which were too dry my for taste. No eating allowed during the tasting. The parking is limited and the vineyard would like the guests to finish their tasting session in 90 minutes. What a lovely tasting experience! The outdoor area is really nice. Our server was very, very knowledgeable. The wines are excellent. We loved that they bottle single varietals so that you can get a clear idea of the flavor. The choice of red, white, and combined flights was appreciated. We chose to split one combined flight, as we don't want as much alcohol as there would be in a full tasting. I would definitely return. Sunday was wine-tasting day for us...we had a couple vineyards in mind based on yelp reviews; however, our hotel front desk recommended some other favorite vineyards in the area for us to check out. Tablas happened to be one of them. We had visited Adelaida first...and then swung by Tablas Creek Vineyard in time for their 10:30 am vineyard tour. You have to call beforehand to give them a heads up re: how many people are you in your party. It's a complimentary tour (that lasts approximately 40-45 minutes) with a wine tasting afterwards. If you buy 1 bottle of wine, then your tasting is free (per person). The FREE vineyard tours are 10:30 am or 2:00 pm daily. The cellar opens at 10:00 am. Upon arrival, I noticed there was a large tin bucket full of "water canteens" or 'water bottles" that you can use to fill up with water, and take it with you to drink while you are on site. They request that you return it after you're done with it. That's their way of being eco-concious, especially useful on hot hot days! We didn't use one since we brought our own water bottles already. This winery is also pet friendly, they let us walk our pup around the grounds while we did the tour. The tasting room was also very modern and chic. We liked that very much. The tour was fun for us, as we got to learn so much about their unique way of growing grapes to harvest. This vineyard is very much all "French" as their grapes were sourced from France and their process for growing grapes is French too. The way they store their wine in barrels is different as they don't use the type "oak barrels". They use these extremely large barrels for their wine storage. See photos for what I mean. During our tasting, we had the option of trying 6 different types of wine. The menu was known as their Estate Tasting List; and our wine expert even threw in an 'additional tasting' for free, called En Gobelet 2011 (red wine). My husband and I shared a tasting since neither of us are huge wine connoisseurs. The usual price for the tasting is $10 per person, but since we ended up purchasing a bottle of wine, our tasting was free. Here's what we bought: Espirit de Tablas 2011, $55 (40% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah, 10% Counoise "flagship red, renamed in the 2011 vintage // rich, structured Mourvedre, meaty, minerally Syrah, lush Grenache and spicy Counoise // from the cool yet lush 2011 vintage // beautifully full-bodied and elegant" I've never purchased such an expensive bottle of wine before, so this was a first for both of us. haha :) This particular red wine was so smooth and divine. We may end up giving it away to someone as a gift! Highly recommend this winery for your itinerary - the people are friendly, and space is large, and it's pet friendly too! At 1030am on 4/19/20 we were informed they were sold out for the day , however there were only 2 couples sitting in the patio for tasting. Very informative tasting--I was just staying above Lake Nacimiento for the weekend, and I spied that this famous winery was truly just about :35 min away, down the hill and into the lovely vale shaded by the most perfect, meandering lanes. The patio strikes one right off the bat after making the final turn. Not only very large and sprawling, this area is full sun with umbrella shades, whereby one can fill a canteen for offer with water and enjoy the countryside. Love Tasting fee was PR's standard $10, refundable with purchase. Bob Haas, 1967 when the story with the Perrin family began. Fascinating! The flight of 6 were also interesting. The mineral rich, earthy red (4th) was my least favorite . Could not finish that one. Rousanne gives a nice citrus long linger and marsanne the mouth fullness, filling the cheeks nicely GSM versions here and French style Chateauneuf du pape here, especially the Beaucastel. Nabbed a bottle of 2012 and preparing myself to drink it around 2019!!! Tasting counter has at least 5 stations, broken up. $40 separate tasting offered which has pairings of food and the reserve, exclusive stuff. My husband and I made a tasting reservation at this winery a few days ago at the recommendation of a friend. The weather was over 100 degrees and due to OSHA policy, the outdoor tasting area was closed but we were offered indoor seating. We were at first disappointed but then very pleasantly surprised at the newly expanded indoor tasting room. It was very modern and attractive and we got undivided attention from our two wine servers. I've been here twice now, once being just the other day. I will first say I am not much of a wine drinker nor a knowledgeable one at that. But I will say their wine is delicious to the point where each time I've bought at least a bottle which says a lot. Their staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. The place is gorgeous! So glad our friends from SLO recommended this beautiful winery. Such a hidden gem in California's central coast wine country. We tried a couple of wines we had never heard of--more importantly their story is actually really interesting. Their wine is certified biodynamic and their winery is certified regenerative. All that means is that their wine is grown super sustainably. The winery itself is gorgeous: beautiful views and ambiance. This was the first winery I stopped at on my first Paso Robles trip. I had heard good things about the wine and they have a history so I had high expectations even though I had never tried the wines. It ended up being a pretty good experience, not my favorite winery in Paso but still not bad. The winery itself is placed well for growing grapes but not so well for visiting, it's at the farthest end of the windy road that gets you to most of the wineries in Paso Robles. Regardless, it's a nice location to sit an enjoy wine in. Our server was knowledgeable, and the wines were pretty good. I ended up taking home one red and one white, and spent $100 on two tastings and two bottles which isn't bad. I think their most interesting wine is the Espirit de Tablas Blanc which is a fragrant white with a baking spices heavy flavor. We sat outside, and it's a rather casual setting (lots of families with kids). Some people brought their own food. There's a lot of wineries to try in Paso Robles, so I might not be back for a while, but it worth at least one visit. read more

Just recently took my daughter to this winery for a girls day out. Last stop of the day(around 3:35pm) on the way home. We are not members of this winery, so maybe that makes a big difference on how you're treated. When we arrived, it was pretty empty, so we thought we'd take a chance that they would do a tasting without reservation, as there were at least 10 tables available outside. We walked up to the desk and was asked if we had a reservation, we said no. Hostess said no problem, we have lots of tables available right now. We were seated very close to entrance at nice table towards the top. Pourer came to greet. At that point my daughter decided she wanted to purchase a bottle to enjoy and drink rather than a tasting. Pourer said no problem, and went the retrieve bottle for our enjoyment. When he came back, he stated that because we ordered a bottle, we would need to pick up all our stuff and move to a lower table. ??? Owner rules? Can't sit at those particular tables to enjoy a bottle of THEIR OWN wine? So.....we picked up and moved to a lower table. Got all set there and waited. Now remind you, there are at least 7 empty tables to choose from in the lower section! He came to new (Lower table) and told us we needed to move further out. ??? What? Where? House rules?!! The meant out past the small dirt road where some bench picnic tables were along roadside and sit there. Reminder again! EMPTY tables available all the way up to the top where hostess is, the WHOLE time we were there. Yet, we were sent to the boonies? Not blaming pourer for this one bit, as he was told to do this. Never been so embarrassed or demoralized. Watched the parking lot the whole time we were there. They never filled the tables while we sat, being that it was towards end of day, so what would have been he harm of saying at a table where we purchased your wine?? Long story short.. DID NOT enjoy the experience, which is too bad because we would have come again and supported your business $$$, as we live locally. But now? No. Poor first impression for my daughter, especially for wine thats just OK. Must give 5 stars to pourer though. Had such an amazing time here! Heidi was our host and she was wonderful. Very knowledgeable about the wines and we had the opportunity to taste a nice variety of their whites and reds. They have some unique wines that I had never tried before. I highly recommend their Grenache and Mourvedre but there was not one that I did not enjoy. During COVID, they maintained a lot of distance between the outdoor seating arrangements and I felt safe being there with their protocols. We ended our day at Tablas Winery and it felt like we ended with a bang. We had a late reservation for our wine tasting. We were sat in the front of the spacious and inviting patio. Throughout the wine tasting, my wife and I kept making notes or pointing to our new favorite wines. By the end of the wine tasting, all the wines made our favorite list and we ended becoming members, taking home a shipment and buying additional bottles to take home with us. We will be back! Went here last Saturday. Just stopped by & did not have reservations. They said no problem. We sat down. It was about 1:30, we pulled out snacks. We were told we could not picnic there. We said well we want wine too. We asked if they served food we would buy theirs, nope they don't serve food!! Now they are in the middle of no where. You want people drinking on an empty stomach??? We bought 2 bottles of wine for a total of $123!!! We had to move across the dirt road. There's absolutely no logic here. I've NEVER not been able to either buy food or bring your own into a winery. We had some extra time before we had to check in to our hotel and so we called to see if there was an opening for wine tasting. We were lucky in that they could squeeze us in because Tablas became one of my favorite spots for wine from my 2 day trip in Paso Robles. I loved every single tasting I had. From this tasting, I learned I loved Southern Rhone style wine. The nose of every wine was delicious as was the taste. Our host was super friendly and even treated us to extra tastings. I was sold! I had to sign up for the wine club. Can't wait for my next shipment in the spring. Might even drive up to pick up so I can taste more of that wine! Great little winery off the beaten path. We went for a tasting (make sure you have a reservation) and had a wonderful time. We chose this winery because it's the first regenerative organic winery in the world with responsible growing practices. We weren't disappointed. On a warm-and-sunny afternoon, how nice to be greeted by an ice-filled bucket filled with reusable stainless steel canteens for guests' enjoyment (I opted for the refreshingly cold water from the dispenser and disposable cups instead). I enjoyed browsing through the small gift areas, but the unique cork purses and whimsical William Bounds salt and pepper shakers were priced more than I cared to spend. The $10 tasting fee (waived with our purchases) included, to our delight, our attractively etched tasting glasses and a tasty selection of 7 white and red wines. The soft-spoken woman assisting us was nice-enough, but lacked enthusiasm, personality, and energy that others exuded -- almost disinterested. In addition, gave seemingly the smallest pours we had among all of the wineries we visited. When it came to purchasing our wines, we lined up at the 1-person-manned register (another counter), which was incredibly and disappointingly inefficient (about 1/4 of our time at the winery was spent standing in line) -- and they couldn't even quickly rinse out our tasting glasses. Our least favorite stop, service-wise (2-stars); however, we like the red wines; thereby the 4-star rating. read more

Tablas Creek is one of those must-visit wineries in Paso Robles. The owners pretty much brought Rhone varietals to the US, and they have definitely perfected California-grown Rhone wines. The tasting fee is $15, but is waived with a bottle purchase. The wines are well-priced for the excellent quality. If you are interested in learning about Tablas Creek's history and winemaking process, I would highly recommend taking the tour. I went on the tour on my most recent visit and learned so much! It's a pleasure to be able to drink old world wines while Paso. We finished with our wine tasting early at Justin and headed over to our appointment at tablas, we were about an hour early. They were very accommodating and sat us right away. We wine taste quite often and I want to say, we never have been to a winery that had such a large variety of different wines and the grapes we have never heard of. Our host was so knowledgeable and was open to answering all of our questions. Tablas Creek is an outstanding and amazing winery. They are very serious about what they do, both the results in the bottles and their environmental impacts. Their tastings are clearly geared to serious wine aficionados and are just wonderful for those who are into Rhone varietals and a more "French" style. The tastings are 1.5 h with a flight of 6 wines and if you are more than one you can have different flights. We have had white and red flights of 6 wines each served sequentially, 3 at a time. In addition our server, Charlie, brought out two additional wines, 2020 grenache and en gobelet, which had not yet been released when I told him my appreciation of grenache and especially past en gobelet bottlings. Another treat this last time was a library Esprit blanc. In total the two of us tasted, not drunk, 15 wines over a very leisurely visit talking with Charlie about the wines. The tastings consist of their flagship blends and some of the components of those blends so it is quite educational. Personally we find the tastings much more enjoyable than the wine club pickup parties, which feel rushed. We asked and were told that it was OK to bring Table Water crackers to the table to taste between wines. The outside tasting patios are a lovely way to spend time. They are also quite dog friendly.
