Excellent falafel pita. So good that I came back for it again the next day. Got the side of eggplant and hummus - both were solid, but not needed. The falafel pita was filling and delicious on its own, though the schug hot sauce is a must. Ample space to enjoy the food there or take out. Friendly and fast service. Will definitely be back next time I'm in NY.

Just looking at the hummus, it is creamy and light without being gritty. I liked the addition of the chickpeas and tahini on top. The falafel were okay but did not have a strong sweet potato taste. The portion is generous and can be shared between 1-2 people. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! It makes an easy takeout dinner that is relatively healthy and customizable.

Dropped by here for a quick bite for lunch during work. It's a bit busy but the line moves. Odds are a few of them are waiting for their togo order. I got the lamb kebab plate which comes with hummus and a salad. Nothing much to say except it's pretty solid. No complaints, nothing crazy, and the kebab is tender and flavorful. The salad is a nice cool and light complement. Also, it's quite a bit of food - I ate it across two meals. Quick and easy service. They make it fresh. Grab your lunch here

This is one of the best fast casual spots I've been to in nyc. We tried two dishes on the menu and they were all generous portions. -Hummus bowl with kebab and eggplant: I love how they have so many topping options for the hummus bowls! We went with the kebab and eggplant and the eggplant part was my favorite. So soft and flavorful. It also comes with some slices of pita which was nice and the hummus was so smooth. -Chicken shawarma pan: The chicken shawarma pan was perfect for getting a taste of a bunch of different things in one dish. It came with chicken, hummus, chopped salad, pickles, and tahini. This one was my favorite of the two because the salad and pickles added a nice crunch and freshness to the dish. Overall, Taboonette was really good and I'm glad I tried this spot out. Our food came out quickly and they had seating inside. Everything we ordered was a big portion which was nice so we had enough leftovers for another snack/meal.

In the mood for an early lunch, I stopped at Taboonette and tried the Sabich. In a pita. It was delicious, front loaded with all the salady bits, eventually giving way to soft velvety never ending layers of fried eggplant. Yum! The only problem with the pita is that you tend to eat things sequentially rather than altogether so next time I'm going to opt for the bowl version. It's a nice bright space and the counter service was pleasant. Can't wait to go back and try the cauliflower.

Great little spot for Mediterranean food served "fast food style" for both take out and limited seating. Place was consistently busy with both. Really enjoyed the chicken schnitzel pan (which is a metallic pan) with a decent portion of rice and Israeli salad and a fairly good size of chicken. All was delicious. Friend had the schwarma pan which didn't seem to offer as much meat but still enjoyed it. We sat at a small counter that sat 4 people. There are I think two or 3 community tables that could maybe sit 6 each tops.

Wow. Clearly they gave this lamb a deep tissue shiatsu massage before cookin that mf cause goddamn was it tender. The tahini carried a deep nutty, rich, intensity that melded with the soft morsels of lamb in a symphony of umami -- cut through by the sinisterly acidic bite of the pickle. The unsung hero of the meal tho? The small flakes of dill sprinkled throughout, which added a playful fresh bounciness to each bite. Oh and the rice -- oh the rice. Cooked to the perfect springy texture, almost like a starchy Temperpedic pillow for the soft lamb being hand delivered to my gullet (sans lullaby). Oh and before I forget the small cranberries sprinkled in the rice were b-b-b-BUSSIN --balanced the salty fattiness of the tahini forward bites perfectly -- like the most naughty PB&J of all time.

I have been here a few times and it's always good! The plates are large and good for dinner or a big lunch. The lamb meatball plate is full of flavor. For lunch, I opt for the pita. I have had the chicken shawarma, lamb shawarma, and falafel. Also, I always get the mint lemonade. It's fresh and not too sweet. This place is just okay. It's rare to find good, quick, cheap middle eastern, and this is definitely it. It's not amazing, not five-star (even at the price point), but the real kicker is that the service is rude and, even more annoyingly, they offer a free cookie for a five-star yelp review. It's possible the food is good, but I wouldn't know. Wasn't delivered an hour and a half after I placed the order. Called the restaurant twice, woman on the phone couldn't even tell me if the order went out yet. Gave up, cancelled the order. read more

Had an awful experience here. One of the main ingredients of the Sabich sandwich is egg plant and they were out of it! They were also out of the lemonade. My isreali sandwich was pretty bland and tasteless. There are so many other better middle eastern options in Union Sq- stay away! read more

Was down by Union Square and saw this place come up on Yelp. We are huge fans of Taboon in Hells Kitchen. For inexpensive, casual version of Taboon - this is great! One of us had the Chicken and I had the steak pita. The staff was incredible and the young lady at the counter was the best customer service person I have witnessed in casual counter dining! read more

Pretty pricey for a lamb kebob pita at 9.50. No seasoning, zero flavor. Had the lamb kebob platter too, rice is good but everything really just lacks that special spice and tangy flavor found in this cuisine. Meh- tried them twice, doubt there will be a third. read more

Best pulled-pork ever! Stopped in for a quick lunch and got a pulled pork pita and lamb pita. Pulled pork pita was so juciy. The sauce used for the jicama slaw was amazing and complimented the pork very well. The lamb pita wasn't so tasty and on the dry side. I wouldn't recommend this one. Will probably try the chicken shawarma. read more

This place is SO good and the food tastes so fresh. I got the salmon platter and my friend got the veggie platter and we were both extremely pleased with our meals. The platter also comes with a lot of food so you'll leave feeling satisfied. There's also a counter for a few seats up for anyone wanting to dine alone, which I saw a few people do on a weeknight. If I lived in the neighborhood, this would definitely be a frequent go to place when I wanted a delicious convenient meal after work. read more

I'm a meat and potatoes kind of guy, but I came in here and ate the Kruveet. I was immediately hit with a delicious blend of sweet potato, arugula, and cauliflower among other fresh, Mediterranean ingredients. I didn't even miss the meat, although my wife got the chicken shawarma pita and it was equally delicious. They basically violated the pita with the amount of food that was penetrated in its cavity. And I'm not upset one bit. Portions are big for a good price. The atmosphere was nice too. It was summer, so the big front window was open, and we felt a nice breeze whilst we sated our appetite. Just make sure you enter the correct door. If you go downstairs you might end up at a dry cleaners. But there's nothing dry about this clean, fresh establishment. Boom. read more

We both eat at Taïm all the time, but the option to come here and get falafel on the either a pita/pan is so cool. Loved out experience here. Music's not so bad either. Specialties

Our items are seved in either a fresh fluffy pita, on a plate with rice and salad. Come in and try our crowd favorite chicken shawarma with hummus and pickles. Or the pulled pork with house BBQ sause and apple Cole Slaw. We also make our own kabab with tomato, onion, mint, lightly spiced to perfection and served with eggplant. Wash it all down with home made mint lemonade or finish it off with a Silan- vanilla soft serve ice cream topped with puffed rice, caramelized nuts, sesame candy, and date honey!

History

Established in 2012.

In TABOONETTE we've brought some of our dishes from our first restaurant (TABOON in hells kitchen) and modified them into the pita sandwich. The results are wonderful. Here we bring the "middletrrenian" food in its simpler form with a fun, inviting, homey atmosphere.

This was one of my favorite meals as a kid and I haven't had it like that in so long, so I was so happy to find a place that does it this well. The vegetables were perfect with zucchini, butternut squash, cauliflower, and chickpeas, and I loved the addition of raisins and onions. Everything was also really reasonably priced for what you get. The energy in the restaurant was great and I loved that they have hooks for coats so you're not crammed at the table with jackets and bags. Overall just such a fantastic experience. This is easily my new favorite restaurant in the city and I cannot wait to come back.

Nice, quiet brunches around the Union Square area are an oxymoron-- at least I thought they were until I found Taboonette today. The steak and egg pita might be one of the most satisfying meals I've had this year. The warm, soft pita bread goes incredibly with a generous portion of steak, and a medley of other well-seasoned, fresh ingredients. The setting and service are also superb here. The decor is clean and graceful with a rustic tilt, thanks to the firewood panelling to the left of the entrance. The staff and owners were also very friendly and their cheeriness made it a real pleasure to hang around and enjoy some tea. As if things couldn't get better, the whole experience is a great value, especially for the quality you get. Taboonette has been around for just over a month; you owe it to yourself to try it before the crowds roll in. read more

I'm giving this place a 1 star because while my company and I were putting on our jackets to leave, the cashier pointed at a tray w/ leftovers on the cashier's counter and yelled towards me from across the restaurant saying "sir, you can't leave this here." I had the pita shwarma wrapped in paper (no tray) and my leftovers were sitting in front of me at the table. The tray belonged to someone else. I informed her that the tray wasn't mine and she insisted that it belonged to me (?). Her voice caught the attention of essentially everyone in the restaurant; she was rude, unnecessarily antagonistic, and was making a baseless accusation. This place is right near my school and it's really my go to spot for a hasty, wholesome, delicious, tasty meal. I don't eat meat so I usually get the salmon platter for dinner which comes out super swiftly upon request. It comes with yellow rice and zartar encrusted salmon and a side salad with tziziki on the side. It's such a balanced healthy meal, cooked to perfection and super inexpensive for what you are getting. My experience is always superb in this wonderful mediterranean eatery. A great spot near Union Square! The kruveet pita sandwich is delicious. The cauliflower and squash are cooked and flavored to perfection.
