After our visit to the tenement museum I was looking for Middle Eastern food, and we found this place was nearby. At 4:30 we were the only customers. We just wanted a late lunch and the menu is pretty limited, but we found a Falafel sandwich that we loved and was big enough to share, but you have to be willing to cut the pita yourself and have it a little messy; there's also a spicy falafel burger, but we don't do spice very well so we thought we'd stick with this. This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of NYC. It's a very tight but lively space - the portions are big and the flavors are amazing! The Yemen Duck tacos are some of the best appetizers I have ever had and the star of the schnitzel is actually the mashed potatoes that go with it. We had honestly just stumbled upon this place after just wandering and Mediterranean food sounded really good. Everything we had here was fantastic. We came here for a late lunch/brunch around 2:00pm and it was packed, playing amazing old pop and rock hits, it was loud but it 100% fit the vibe. The Smoked Eggplant Carpaccio was HEAVENLY. One of my favorite appetizers I've ever had. It was a mouthful of multiple experiences, smoky, fresh, citrusy, creamy. It had it all. Regarding the sides, the falafel trio was cooked amazing and had a really nice crispness to all of them and seasoned well. Both of our favorites were the 2 that were not spicy, the spicy one just didn't have a flavor profile I enjoyed too much. The fries were good and garlicky, not too many notes on these, pretty much just a really solid fry. The Labaneh Zaatar was fantastic, as most Labanehs are to me. It was creamy and thick, and the Zaatar was a good blend that paired well with it without being too overpowering. The pita that came with it was really fatty from the oil in the best way possible. It left a film on your fingers. The chicken schnitzel was pounded extremely thin so that every single bite was consistent and really crispy. Having spent a lot of time in Israel this is really quality Israeli food and one person in our party who has lived in Israel for a few years now said that this was the closest to israeli hummus as shes had in the city. The falafel burger was great and hit the spot perfectly. The only thing keeping this from a five star review was the service which was definitely lacking a bit. The second order of fries did not come until the very end of our meal (An excuse was made that "this is why you have to order everything at once") I am sorry, if can still eat I should be able to order a simple order of fries. 2. The server came over and put the bill down and said "the table is timed and you need to hurry up", we wanted to order another round of drinks, and we were never offered the dessert menu). The server hovered over our table and harassed us to ensure we left the restaurant. We spent over $300 dollars and did not ask for much during our visit, the least 19 Cleveland could do is provide good service and not make your guests feel like they are putting out the restaurant by being there. With so many places in NYC with equally as good food, you would think that you would try to stand out with great service. We came on a Friday night (at 7pm) and the place was bumping and loud, so you'll definitely want to be mindful of that type of setting.
