In our search for a Sunday funday spot, we stumbled upon Taco Beach Shack. What immediately caught my eyes were their colorful, fun beach decor! Inflatable donuts were hung from the ceiling and the wood furnitures were painted in fun colors. We seated ourselves under an umbrella closest to the bar. Matt our bartender, made his way over to us ready to serve tacos and margaritas. I loved the Cadillac Margarita and Mahi Mahi tacos. Both were equally delicious. Matt kept up with our pace and our drinks were never empty. There was no music at our side of the shack. No one had any issues with me pulling out my mini speaker and getting the tunes going. This is a great chill spot and I'm happy we found it! A must stop when heading anywhere near Hollywood beach. read more

Ambiance: colorful, fun beach vibes music good Location: perfect because my hotel was onsite Service: mediocre, the waitress sat me down and didn't return for my drink order for a good 15min , reason why I didn't leave was because I had just left the beach about 7pm and was hungry and decided to stop in before heading to my room . She took my order of two crispy tacos and the appetizer was chips and pico de gallo . The pico de gallo was all tomato! The mojito drink I ordered was already watered down by the time she brought it to me. I was too tired to complain, this place needs better staff or at least staff that cares . The tacos and ambience were good, which is why I am giving 3 stars. The service was.... Just decent. He dropped off the food and then didn't come talk to us again. Do NOT get the chips & queso. It was nacho cheese, like the kind you would get at the movies. Very disappointing. And the spicy mango margarita was not spicy at all. The table was sticky and dirty. I came here to celebrate the birthday of a good fellow foodie friend who loves Mexican food. So when celebrating her birthday during Labor Day weekend in Hollywood Beach, we had one of our celebration dinners here. We've driven past this little place right off the bridge from Hollywood Boulevard whenever we come to Hollywood Beach and finally have a chance to stop in. When the name says 'beach shack', it is pretty close to that, it's a funky tropical open air restaurant. We walked in without reservations and were able to get a table for our group of eight. Our servers were pretty attentive, and the food nicely spicy. The chips were crispy and served with both a queso, who me who usually only goes for red salsa, loved as well the aforementioned spicy salsa. She ordered a burrito, and I went with the fajitas. My plate had a nice amount of chicken and grilled vegetables; I liked the fact that the "side" plate (fajita fillings) had a large helping of sour cream and that I could get black beans. For her birthday treat, she got a tray of churros with dolce de Leche and the candle to sing happy birthday. My only complaint was that the sun was in our face most of the dinner, since we sat at sunset. It would be nice if they lowered some of the canvas covers and or put some fans for when it's hot out. This is a perfect spot to celebrate when you were out at the beach, since I think it is a few steps from the sand also. She celebrated with a bottle of her favorite wine, Pinot Grigio, while I ordered a couple of Mojitos. These were among the better ones I've had: well blended, but really strong. Salut! read more

Came to try this restaurant because of the high star ratings, only to leave disappointed. From the start, the waitress was clearly not in the best mood. She didn't introduce herself and immediately asked if we were ready to order as soon as we sat down. We ordered tossed wings and guacamole with pico de gallo and chips for appetizers. The wings came completely naked with sauce on the side and no ranch dressing, even though the menu stated they were "tossed wings." When I asked the waitress about it, she said that's how they make them because some people don't like the sauce already on the wings. My response was simple: then the menu shouldn't describe them as tossed wings. We also ordered tacos that came with a side of corn on the cob. The menu specifically mentioned corn with secret sauce and Parmesan cheese, but the corn arrived dry and flavorless with no sauce at all. When I asked about it, the waiter argued that it didn't come with secret sauce until I pointed it out directly on the menu. After that, he had nothing else to say. I also ordered the churrasco steak burrito, which unfortunately was not great either -- dry and with very little steak inside. The restaurant itself is cute and decorated with vibrant colors, and they had a live singer performing, which created a fun atmosphere. That part was enjoyable. However, they really need to improve both the food and the service, especially considering they automatically charge a 14% gratuity plus a 6% service charge. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons service has become so poor at some places -- gratuity is no longer earned:(. read more

Well I have a compliant... we got seated around 5-6... the table was at an angle that the sun could not let the people see. We polectky requested the blind to be dropped for a bit while the sun went down to make it a little more comfortable during our dinning experience. We were given a flat no! Didn't offer to try to move the table around. Just basically deal with it. Besides that the food was good. Well portion. Pretty good music. The only damper was the sun blinding us! lol read more

Stopped by this taco spot recently, and overall it was... fine, but definitely a mixed bag. I had the carnitas taco combo, and while the carnitas themselves were pretty good; tender and well-seasoned, the sides really fell short. The rice was hard, the beans were too salty, and the corn didn't have much flavor. I also ordered a spicy mango margarita, which sounded great but ended up being way too strong, and they even asked if I wanted to "upgrade" to Bacardi for $3 extra, which felt a little odd for a margarita. Another surprise: water is $8, and they don't offer tap water. That was definitely a downside. One friend got the mushroom taco combo and absolutely loved it. I didn't try it myself, but based on how enthusiastic they were, that's probably what I'd go for next time. Another friend ordered the steak tacos, and I did try a bite of those. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked, chunky, and tough to bite through, so I wouldn't recommend that one. Overall, the place has some hits and misses. My mahi tacos were excellent. I will say the Baja is better than the grilled (I think they just season with tajin but yum). The grilled mahi was a little dry. This is simple and delicious Mexican food. Great service, good prices. My husband had the chicken burrito and it was heavy on the chicken, which was a nice surprise (he said many of the "fancy" Mexican restaurants in Toronto are mostly rice). But note - the sauce for the burrito came on the outside making it super messy to eat. The restaurant is entirely outdoors but is mostly shaded. Recommend! Would come back. read more

My partner and I came here on a Tuesday night and let me just the staff was excellent! Everyone was so nice and welcoming however the food was not good what so ever. We finished walking the beach and were on our way out so we decided to drop in here for Taco Tuesdays but it was horrid. We both the beef taco combo & related the taste the taco bell (they use ground beef.) The restaurant itself is super nice and lit up with gorgeous decor but that doesn't matter when food quality is lacking. I also got a mojito which was gorgeous, but extremely sour. Overall, staff is amazing at what they do and their work ethic, and keeping the restaurant environment bubbly, but the menu definitely could use a revamp. read more

The ambiance is nice specifically because the beach is walking distance and it's outdoors. A great spot to pull up to before you go to the beach or after. On Tuesday's the tacos are BOGO for select tacos. Their tacos are very fresh and have great flavor. The drinks are also good. The service is good as the food comes out fairly quickly. I rarely give 5s but this dive deserves one! Courtney our server was great... from suggestions to service! Our pitcher of margaritas was refreshing and delicious and complimented the guac and chips. The guacamole needed some oomph like onions but was fresh and delicious. I had the chicken tacos which had just the right balance of spice and chicken. The shrimp taco which also was great and had nicely fried shrimp. The angus beef taco went down quickly and the shredded brisket quesadilla was huge and delicious. I'm embarrassed to say we left GG's on Mother's Day, to leave after three hours waiting for our food. We dashed across the street for my old standby. Kristina took care of us, and we had a pitcher of margaritas in 5 minutes and food within 5 minutes after we ordered. Thank god my 85 year old mother loves Tacos. And margaritas. Why don't things ever change for the better. So, a few days ago, we saw the specials that were posted on IG and when we told the server he had no clue! I used to eat here fairly regularly bc I lived in Hllywd Beach. I hadn't been in a few months. The quality has gone way down and I can see why ppl have told me they've stopped going. The server received confirmation and there was only 1 drink that was eligible for HH; 1st time I have ever come across this! The drink was the Margarita; that you could have gotten out of a can. The shrimp and carnitas tacos came out 1 minute after we ordered them; we found that extremely odd. Were they just sitting there? They were cold and flavorless. We def won't be back! read more

Solid spot by Hollywood beach, the tacos are not going to blow you out of this world, but they're solid. Would recommend getting the grilled fish or the chimichurri steak burrito, that was . Food was amazing. The server was annoyed for us to be there. It was a Struggle to get drinks, my wife and son couldn't get a refill. My wife couldn't get a refill on alcoholic drinks and my son struggled to get a refill on a Coca Cola. Order the large drinks as I did. Just a short walk from the sand, we found a laid-back gem serving up some of the best tacos I've had in a while. The shrimp tacos were juicy and perfectly seasoned, with just the right kick, while the mushroom tacos surprised me in the best way. Earthy, savory, and bursting with flavor, they're a great option whether you're plant-based or just want to switch it up.
