I want to warn others about my experience here because it raised serious concerns for me. I came in, sat down, and ordered a quesadilla. The food was okay, but the service was very inattentive. I actually had to ask someone just to take my order. When I finished eating, I asked for the bill and paid using Apple Pay. At no point during payment was I asked if I wanted to leave a tip or given the option to choose one. After I asked for the receipt, I noticed that a 20% gratuity had already been added to my bill. I never agreed to leave a tip, especially considering the service I received. When I asked the employee about the charge, he hesitated and couldn't clearly explain it. I also want to make it clear that there was no visible sign anywhere in the restaurant, on the door, or on the menu stating that a 20% gratuity would automatically be added. Customers should be informed of mandatory charges before they order or pay. Adding a 20% gratuity without clearly informing customers beforehand is extremely concerning. Without proper disclosure, it feels deceptive and comes across like a scam and a form of theft. Businesses should be transparent about any automatic charges. Because of this experience, I will not be returning. read more

The server also added a 20% tip to the bill and charged my card (without telling me), then still handed me the receipt with the tip line like I should add more. That didn't sit right. We had been walking the boardwalk for awhile and needed to grab something to eat. We were able to get 2 big bowls for a decent price ($16 and $18) Both had rice and beans my husband had ground beef and I had ground beef short rib that was supposed to be spicy. I asked for a couple of sauces and chose a pineapple jalapeño that was perfect! Our server was very helpful and nice They have seating inside and outside nothing fancy at all. It was Saturday night and the boardwalk was packed but we did find a table and enjoyed the vibe and the food. They have a couple of house beers in addition to other beers and drinks. The servers are nice and attentive but the food and drinks... 2 outta 4 food and drinks are safe to eat, and only one drink is considered good. The two of us got the Coconut Water in Coconut, Pineapple Colada, Pineapple Jalapeño Wings and Roasted Corn Elliot. The only good item was the pineapple Colada. It was icy and the shot of rum was in a separate tube, and it tasted fresh. The "Roasted" Corn Elliot is apparently boiled and was drizzled with some sauce and cheese, but at least it's consumable. Coconut water is lukewarm and tasted weird, we returned the first one and was offered a second one and it tasted the same, so we just asked the server to take it out of our bill. The pineapple jalapeño wings... The meat was solid and fell off the bones like legos. Not like it was cooked nicely to fall off, but more like the wings were old or recooked and the texture tasted weird. There is also no Jalapeño on sight, but the pineapple chunks were fresh. Margaritas are strong but so good! Only needed one to feel it! Queso and chips were decent, the queso was not what I was expecting. The quesadilla on the other hand... amazing 10/10. The lobster tacos platter was $16 and came with street corn with garlic aioli and cheese. Refried beans and rice were also served. The lobster was deep-fried in cubes. Real lobster meat and so good. Grilled shrimp pizza was also very good. Thin crust pizza topped with cheese and grilled shrimps. Nice depth of flavors, and you get some pickled veggies to put on top. The service was friendly. The food took a bit longer, but it was well worth the wait. Nicr beachside seating area and great for people watching. One big surprise on the bill was the automatic 20% gratuity. After confronting the worker he said the system automatically does that and they can't give it and that they just charge it an theyre getting a sign to make it clear they just haven't yet. So I don't know why they think they're able to do that. But 1 star for me. read more

You know those days that you're running errands and doing basic stuff when you realize you're hungry - and ideally want to squeeze a few more minutes out of the weekend? Well that was me today, after doing my laundry and just driving north the hunger pangs hit me near Hollywood Beach. I was lucky to find a spot in one of the municipal garages, and started to walk the boardwalk to get my steps in. I'd had Italian these days, so a friend recommended Taco Joint. I was able to get a seat outside with a view of the beach and people watching on the boardwalk. That itself is 5 stars! After walking, the aforementioned errands and not having eaten during the day I was sort of hungry, and ordered the (not complementary) chips and salsa, elote and wet chicken burrito. I also ordered a glass of cranberry juice - great to filter out the weekend :) My chips were nice and crispy, and the salsa mild for my taste but still yummy. The burrito was delicious, huge, and packed with plenty of beans, rice and greens. The queso and red sauce making it wet added extra flavor and I appreciate they omitted the cabbage and guacamole. I suppose it could have had a little more actual chicken pieces though. Service was pleasant but beach bar casual. It's a solid place for a bite after the beach, or enjoying the live music on the nearby bandshell. read more

Really tasty food - w some great unusual combinations and flavors in Tacos. And some of the servers have been great. BUT - they are VERY unreliable w their hours - which is VERY frustrating and disappointing when you were looking forward to their food. Online it says they are open til 10:00 pm. We had heard 9:00 - and indeed sometimes have been at least able to get take out at 9:00. However sometimes at right around 9:00 they have already decided to close. And most recently arrived at just past 8:45 on a weekend night (to be sure to be on time for take out) and been told the kitchen is already closed!! A group of us went to The Taco Joint yesterday and we were very pleasantly surprised by it. Sometimes places like this can be very touristy and the food isnt great, but this was not the case here. We started off with the short rib nachos and they were so so so good! They also have great sauces here and I love sauces. The spicy mustard and pink sauce were delicious. For the main I had a lobster taco and steak taco. Both were great and were pretty big in size! I was very full after eating both. Lobster is slightly fried, but was tasty. I also felt like for being beach front they had pretty good pricing! And although they did miss one of our food items, the staff was lovely and we were already full so we didnt care much. Consensus was: best tacos were the crispy shrimp, crispy mahi, short rib, and steak, but all options were AMAZING!! Would recommend all!! Steak tacos were average. Corn was good. Be careful on the bill they are shady. They charged a hidden fee of about 75 cents on every meal and then added 20% tip without letting you know. They also have the normal spot on the bill for an additional tip. All the hidden fees which were also taxed plus hiding the fact they added on tip without making it clear is very shady business. I have been looking forward to checking out this beach front restaurant on the broadwalk for ages! We came in with a party of four on a Saturday afternoon. The weather was not the best and the broadwalk was not super busy so it was easy to get a table quickly. I have been interested in trying the Taco Spot because it had great reviews but more importantly to me, the prices were sooooo good for a spot on the broadwalk looking at the ocean! Upon sitting down we asked for waters for the table.Normal I would've loved to grab a margarita or beer but our crew wasn't looking for drinks the day. My boyfriend and I decided to split a taco platter with the crispy carnitas and added one soft chicken taco, my other guests ordered the shrimp quesadilla and then the grilled mushroom taco platter. The food came super quick thankfully because we were starving! I was SHOCKED at how much food came on each plate. They also do not skimp on the tacos. They are filled with proteins and loaded up with lots of fresh toppings. The shrimp quesadilla was also very large and was not short on shrimp at all. The side of rice and beans didn't have a lot of flavor but a bit of hot sauce would do the trick. The side of roasted corn, on the other hand, was delicious with lots of creamy cheese. Let me tell you. I was underwhelmed until I bit into my carnitas and kimchee taco. The meat was tender and juicy. The chipotle cream added the perfect creamy spice. Delicious! I'm going to rewind a bit though. This is a hole in the wall right on the Hollywood Broadwalk. We stopped in because my friend HAD TO have one of their drinks which is served in a pineapple. We started with those, normally I wouldn't opt for such a sweet beverage, but when in Rome, right? It was tasty but the frozen drink melted before I could even get half way through the drink. We also had guac and queso. The guac was fresh and tasty. I usually prefer a bit more of a kick, but it was still good. The queso literally tasted like broccoli cheddar soup. This place was on Hollywood beach boardwalk. Small but nice seating. I wanted a Pina colada and they had it! So we decided to eat here. I order the small size Pina colada since I'm not much of a drinker and was only craving the flavor. They also sell it in the pineapple which next time I'm going to do that one since it was good! We got two taco platter with an extra taco: one Al pastor and two carnitas. It came with rice and Mexican street corn. It was a great deal! Everything was delicious.
