Every time I have been here, the order is always messed up or they don't include the whole order. Every. Single. Time. It's the worst.

Food is disgusting. Stale taco shells and everything always seems old. Drive the extra miles and go to the Belton or Lee's Summit stores.

Changing my mind, new review. Caught an employee leave the Mens room and passed on washing his hands. Walked out and won't be back.

Finally stopped by Tacos El Gallo and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered online without issue…read more Parking on SW Boulevard is always a nightmare, especially in that little area but I was able to find a spot after a few loops around. I wish I would've had more time to look around the market because it looked like they had a lot of good stuff but I'll have to go back and see. They do have tables inside that you can eat at. The food was done at the quoted time and was accurate. The one individual I encountered was friendly. The menu was very straightforward-tacos, burritos, and a few other items, all can be customized. I had to get an order of chips and queso. I really liked their queso. It had good flavor and wasn't overly spicy. The chips were fresh and held up to the queso nicely. I'm definitely probably alway going to order this when I go. I also tried a taco with carne asada. The tacos are the street variety but they are really good sized. They don't skimp on the meat. And the carne asada was really good. No gristle or gross bits. It was chopped finely and I'd definitely order it again. I also had to try a burrito. I tried the El pastor for that and added on all the toppings-cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. I also opted for extra meat because it was super cheap-like $1, so why not? Again, I was not disappointed. I did throw my burrito on the good 'ol George Foreman when I got home because they don't grill it at all and I wanted some grill marks on that tortilla. Otherwise, the el pastor was flavorful and tender and the toppings were all fresh. Per usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I saved half of my burrito, but it was a welcome leftover meal the following day. Definitely check them out if you're on the boulevard and want some tasty, Mexican grub.

A Hidden Gem in Kansas City!…read more We flew into Kansas City for a quick getaway and, of course, we had to find some good local food! After searching for tacos, we put the car in motion and headed to Tacos El Gallo on Southwest Blvd--and I'm so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by two beautiful, spirited Hispanic young ladies who were incredibly welcoming and took the time to explain the menu and help us decide what to try. We went with the chicken, steak, and birria tacos, along with corn elote. We paired everything with mango and hibiscus agua fresca, and let me just say... WHEW! Everything was fresh, but lacked seasoning! The birria tacos were definitely a standout, but honestly, we enjoyed everything we ordered. And the customer service made the experience even better. If you're visiting Kansas City and looking for some authentic, flavorful tacos with great hospitality, put Tacos El Gallo on your list! Secondly, when I went home, I was just expecting tacos, and found this wide array of grilled vegetables in my takeout order. Thirdly, several of the tacos were insanely delicious. The server was pretty chill when I was placing my order. And the music in the background was Bad Bunny style, fun stuff.

Respectfully, nothing was fundamentally wrong with the food, but it didn't distinguish itself. I'd eat there again if nearby, but wouldn't travel for it. Service was good for ordering and receiving time. From order to table was approximately 10 minutes which is exceptional considering the quantity of food ordered. The tables needed to be wiped down, and the table service was pretty much non-existent. You order your food at a register, seat yourself and that's that. No waitress or water; you have to buy bottled water. Price point was ~$65 for the taco platter and another ~$10 for the quesabirria tacos. This filled up the family of 4 with leftovers. There is a condiments / salsa bar but customers ran through it and there was mixed food between all the containers. The pickled red onion has their own kick to it which I enjoyed and their salsas/hot sauces are good. The decor is pretty straightforward, tables and chairs, with typical music you'd expect from other Mexican restaurants. Futbol on the TV's and old movies on others. There is a chef at the opposite end of where you order your food, hats off to that man he was very receptive and worked very hard. He helped with getting our table wiped down, our waters, and to go stuff for our leftovers, if he sees this, I want him to know I appreciated his efforts. This review is for my first time experience in Overland Park. I do not know if this is normal or because it was a Sunday that this is what the experience is but I will say, If they offered free water, had a busser, and kept the place more tidy it easily would elevate the rating.

Our visits recently have been on June 2, 9, 15, 22, 29 and so far July 8, 11. That is a testament to their delicious food, ample servings, and friendly personnel. For servers, on most days we have had Angelica, a couple times we have had different servers and have been good as well. Our selections have become pretty regular meaning we have been pretty much ordering the same thing as we enjoy them so much. I get the Fajitas Popi's ($20.25) which includes meats of chicken, beef, chorizo, and shrimp. It always comes out sizzling with a protector pad on the handle to prevent burning. An example of the quantity of meat included are 6 jumbo shrimp or 8 large shrimp in the mix and about 3 tablespoons of chorizo, as well as a nice complement of chicken and beef. It seems like at least five to six ounces of each. Vegetables include grilled and sliced bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes. My wife gets the Chicken Fajitas ($18.25) which includes a very nice amount of sliced chicken (seems like about at least 1/2 pound), as well as the grilled peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Each fajita platter comes with a second plate that includes beans, rice, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce. In addition, 3 foil wrapped tortillas are provided wrapped in foil to keep them to and moist, choice of flour or corn. As mentioned, the food quantity is very good, especially for a single serving. My Fajitas Popi's had twice as much meat and vegetables on it for a single serving than we received at a restaurant on a trip that was supposedly a serving for two. Popi's definitely gives great bang for the money! It has been sufficient for us to take home half of each of our platters to eat at home for a meal another day, and it is all still very tasty and moist. We can hear the clattering of the knives and necessary utensils, and the sizzle of the food, to make freshly cooked fajitas. The sound and the ultimate taste is obvious. Freshly made tortilla chips are served in a basket, as well as a very nicely seasoned (mildly spicy) salsa served in a bottle with small bowls provided upon seating, and free refills of both are provided throughout. The chips are nice and light, not heavily salted, and have retained their crispiness even a couple days later at home (we place them in a sealed bowl when we get home). We can barely get bagged chips to stay crisp that long after opening a bag, so we really enjoy Popi's chips. Besides the menu on the website, they have a different special each day that is written on a marker board on the wall immediately across from the door so easily seen upon entering. One day may be enchiladas, another a burrito, and so on. Tuesday is tacos as mentioned in my previous post. As for menu items, so far we have had the Fajitas Popi's, Chicken Fajitas, Steak Fajitas, and Burritos. All have been excellent, seem to be freshly made, and would order them again. We hope to try some other items in the future but can state the fajitas and burritos are definitely good, and a great value for the money. Every once in awhile Popi has a few moments to come out to check on things. He is friendly, smiles, says hello, and is not intrusive but seems to enjoy seeing people enjoying his preparations. I hope to remember to take photos of some of these items to provide a visual of the items. Sorry, I am not a big photo person, even of myself, so my goal is to enjoy the food I am at a place for. In the meantime, if you want Mexican that is fresh and properly made, Popi's is a place to definitely consider.

You're unable to talk, you have to point to the item or items on the menu to your server so they know what you want to eat and drink. Again I was unaware of this Saturday night event and obviously certain people enjoy it and that's great but if you're coming here on a Saturday to try and to have conversation with out using sign language and pointing to items on menu because your server can't hear you then don't come here on a Saturday night. I think we got here around 6pm and he was still going at 8pm so I don't know what time he stops. The food was good. The Elvis singer in my opinion singing in a living room size room with the volume set like he was singing in a stadium not my cup of tea. Again this is just my opinion so I know not to go to this restaurant on a Saturday night.
