I told her I can't speak for other agencies but that my agency was very progressive and we don't do that. I asked her what we should do with violent people as an alternative to jail and she said, "that's your job to figure out.' I explained some of the services we offered to mitigate her concerns and how someone may make a mistake and end up in jail and how we offer wrap around services pre and post release to mitigate that such as programs and halfway homes. She said that was a good thing. Her fellow bartender asked her to make a drink for her and the bartender left for the backroom for 10 or so minutes. She came back but didn't seem interested in conversation so I left. Quite discouraging. You can't base all of your knowledge about jail and prison on Orange is the New Black, Oz and the Shawshank Redemption. We have people out there that care and genuinely want to make a difference and help people at their lowest.
