I visited this location yesterday Tuesday February 6th 2024 around 6:50pm EST. I read every single review before visiting. I'm almost positive the good reviews are from their family and friend day opening. No way they have this many HONEST good reviews. We made a reservation and arrive 10 minutes early. They made us aware they will seat us closer to our timeframe (it was Jammed packed in there). I stood, on crutches for the remaining 10 minutes. They did sit us one minute after our reservation time, so good job on honoring our time. We head to the table and the table and the chairs are clearly dirty (see picture) and the host walked away like she didn't see it. Our table was extremely wobbly and already had paper under neither from trying to stop it. When our waiter "Andre" (who was great) came, we asked could he try to fix the table (it wasn't any free tables to move to). He attempted to add paper under both ends of the table, it still wobbled but it was better, at least he tried. We came because it was taco Tuesday but guess what? The place that has taco in their name isn't celebrating or even have taco specials on Taco Tuesday, go figure. Anyway, they had $5 Margarita specials (3 to choose from) and thankfully they did because the margaritas glasses are way smaller then any other establishment I've ever been too. No way I'd pay more than $5 for that small glass but the margarita was good and was the best thing here. My spouse had a lunch menu on the table while my menu was for dinner. He tried to order a burrito and he was told that he could not and the waiter apologized for them putting the wrong menu on the table. Who doesn't sell burritos during dinner? Now he had to find something else. I ordered two tacos the steak and Biarria (spell check) and I COULD NOT substitute the black beans for anything without losing the rice. So you have to get the rice and black beans together even though they aren't mixed and they cost the same ($4) on the menu. So if you substitute one, you have to substitute the other. That's crazy! Anyway, our food arrived and it looked dry. Hardly has any toppings except onions and one taco had nothing at all, just meat. Tasted them both and hated it! I asked for sour cream, He brought it (cost us 50 cents) but that didn't help either. The waiter was nice enough to ask how everything was and we told him that we didn't like it. He tried to make it right by bringing out a complimentary churro which was good but because I hadn't eaten any food, the last thing I wanted was sweets. I was hungry. My partner and I had a debate if we only could choose between this place and Taco Bell (which sends us both to the bathroom) which one would we choose? We both choose Taco Bell. The to go boxes are horrible and wouldn't even close. When I got home, I gave my food to my dog, he loved it. Maybe they should cater to pets. We will not be returning. A very bad experience and waste of time and money. Also, They automatically charge you a 3% fee just to use a credit/debit card. I can't wait to see real reviews after this place has been open for awhile. I was excited to come but it was such a disappointment. read more

It's the Chilis of taco spots. Another mediocre chain takes its place in Charlotte. Drink order was not right, food came out wrong from what was on the order and our server was so overrun it took 30 mins to get the check. Any place is better. read more

The elote corn was my favorite, it's literally a go to on any menu because I love to try different renderings of it and taco boys did not disappoint, place was packed but we had a reservation so we got to our table great vibes with the local dj playing music and our server was very attentive. Tried this spot last weekend with the kiddos and I have to say we loved it. The atmosphere was awesome - the DJ was a nice touch. Nice wait staff and servers. The portions were large and f the prices were decent. The negatives would be: not having any kid friendly drinks. Could at least add apple juice! Parking sucks but not their fault. That area is terrible for parking so hopefully they address it soon. Our waitress was a doll but she never came back to check on us once our food came so we didn't get any drink refills or straws which was a bummer. She did apologize when she brought our check bc she knew she was attentive - which was nice that she accepted her short coming. All in all we will definitely be back. read more

I was going to leave 5 stars because our service was so good and the food was great, but when we were handed our bill, they tell you that they're adding an additional 3% if you use a credit card so that you can cover their processing fee charges. I don't know when restaurants became so greedy, but you opening a business does not make me responsible for the processing fee charges. We took the 3% out of the tip we were going to leave, which we hated doing, but we're not going to play into the game of restaurants trying to make a buck anyway they can in an economy the way that it is. If y'all can't cover your own processing fees, make your restaurant cash only. read more

Please listen to all of the reviews: the food has zero flavor. None. I've never had such a bland taco. Nothing on the plate was redeeming. I can't say one good thing about this meal. Even the chips tasted stale. The $10 queso looked and tasted like a microwaved jar from the grocery store. This was our second visit since they recently opened. I really wanted to give a shout out to the staff. I made a 6pm reservation through Resy for a Saturday and somehow the reservation didn't go through. The manager promised they would squeeze us in and had a table ready in 5 minutes. They were about to get real busy and he started moving table assignments around to get our group in. Very nice to see customer service like this. I will say given the taco boy is newly opened. The atmosphere is very welcoming and it's clean! Myself and two of my friends have made a reservation to get a table and we were sat down with no menus. No one came over to us for about 15 minutes and we had to get up and asked the host for menus and a server. Once we were assigned a server, she was absolutely excellent. we placed our order and what we received was subpar. It was very obvious that our chips were extremely stale and majority of the appetizers had no flavor. The margaritas that we ordered had no flavor and tasted more watered down than anything and then the meal itself was similar. The food was bland overcooked and lacked proper seasoning overall, Although the staff was extremely nice and the atmosphere is welcoming, I will not be back given the price and experience we had. read more

When we got to Taco Boy and was seated we were not given menus and sat for 15 min before a server came to us and the place was not super swamped. The food was honestly horrible, I honestly would have much rather gone to Taco Bell, that would have been so much better and more than half the cost. Don't waste your time coming here. The place is great for all ages, nice patio area and ample space for a large party. The service and staff are very friendly and take care of you. With that said, the food is mediocre and the drinks are flavorless. I ordered the pick 3 tacos: the birria, shrimp, and Baja chicken (but I think it was pork) none had seasoning and the birria which is my favorite taco had way too much all-spice. For my drinks, I had the pineapple and blood orange margarita. They both taste the same, like tequila and nothing else. I was expecting a flavored drink, but what I got was salt water and tequila. Im normally not one to write bad reviews but holy shit. I was put in hold for 20 minutes when trying to place a takeout order for 2 chicken burritos. They close at 12 and we were calling at 9. After 20 minutes on hold she hung up on me and called back my friend who kept trying to call to get through bc I was on hold for so long. Makes zero sense. Finally he places the order, we show up and they gave us tacos instead of burritos. We said this isn't what we ordered, no "oh sorry, we'll make that quick" just oh yea I put in tacos, no discount, no nothing after all that. So had to wait for them to make these burritos. Then we get our food and they forgot our sides of rice and beans. To top everything off I start eating mine and it's steak and not chicken. Hands down the dumbest service workers I've ever had. The food is not bad, but good lord they need new staff working at that place. Blows my mind how badly they messed everything up. If you want a burrito save yourself and go to chipotle. Crazy read more
