Amazing location - we sat on the second floor balcony of this beautiful restaurant overlooking the Cape May Beach. The server was Trevor and very nice. He had his hands full with several tables but handled everything really well. The food and drinks were terrific. My only criticism would be the cheese dip didn't have much flavor. This place is overall okay. My favorite parts were probably the waitstaff and interior. The hostesses and waiters were all very friendly and helpful. Expect a long wait, but they are accommodating. After your table is called, they hold it for 15 minutes, which I very much appreciate--that gives you more than enough time to walk to the nearby shops or beach. The ambiance is nice, the tables are spacious, and the bar is long and open. I thought the tacos were alright but expensive and not too flavorful. I did really appreciate the wide selection of local fresh-caught fish, though, and could recommend going here for that reason. The appetizers are pretty standard, and I don't have much to say about them. I just wish there was more flavor in general. Additionally, the cocktails were extremely weak. I'm surprised they even needed to ID. Even people I know who are very lightweight commented on how light the alcohol was. I really liked the flavor and balance of the syrups, but a $15+ cocktail should highlight the liquor. The DJ was not good the night I went, but I'm not sure if that's a consistent issue or just a one-time thing. Overall, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back. Taco Caballito Tequileria is a terrific place to eat ! We were here last weekend with our dog, happened to be going on pleasant evening walk on Beach Ave. and wanted dinner. The hosts at front podium were very friendly when I asked if there was seating area since I had my dog with me. We had a nice corner seat by the front expanding glass doors. Great dining experience with ocean breeze and a delicious grouper fish taco meal! Full dish portions too ! My dog was well behaved sleeping on the floor. Two *very* minor things: - the house/club music is fine but but when on Vol level 10 it can make it difficult have a conversation with people at the other end of the table. They made it a second time and my tacos came out with literally protein on a tortilla. Everything else was on a plate and I was supposed to construct it myself. For example, the sea bass is the most expensive protein on the menu but you'd be better off with a Mickey D's filet o' fish sandwich. It's been a LONG time since I loved Mexican food this much! So good, we went back a second day to try a few more items. The tacos are all amazing. If I had to chose a favorite I'd go with the crispy fish tacos but I'd rather have them all! The carne asada taco is like a trip to Mexico, as is the street corn, which I could eat all day. The Quesabirillas are a "must-try" and my sister and I fought over the last bite of cilantro rice and beans! Everything is deeply flavorful and well plated. Service was fast and attentive both days. (Slightly off season) Drinks were worth every penny and of a far higher quality than you'd expect from a beach taco restaurant. There was live music the first day I was there and a dj the second. Great find, thanks to my fellow Yelpers. Dining on a Tuesday evening around 5:30, we were amazed to find a restaurant with live music in the off season. The band was really good as was the food. I ordered an elderberry mojito, which was tasty and different. Chips and guacamole were served quickly, but the chips were a little soggy. I attribute that to the air, as this restaurant is across the street from the ocean and the air is humid. Guac was good and generously proportioned. I tried the street tacos, the birria style. The meat was tender and flavorful and the corn tortillas perfect. I had to order three of the same, but would have loved to have ordered three different types. Saying the food was average is being gracious. I had a burrito bowl, my son ordered tacos and my husband ordered a burrito. We shared the nachos grande appetizer. My two younger children ordered off the kids menu. Everything was incredibly overpriced. The food was bland and underwhelming. When an entree is $18+ I think most people would expect things to not come with disposable serveware. They also had a loud DJ playing on a Sunday night. It was just a totally strange experience. This is definitely must go to place when in Cape May. Came in around lunch time during the beach's off season so it wasn't busy at all. The inside was a little darker, but I enjoyed the fact that the OLED TVs inside weren't just blasting sports games, but had some YouTube art, which allowed me to just focus on the food. The service was amazing. Everyone was very attentive and kind, with a smile even, making it really inviting. The food was just "chef's kiss." The Tijuana street fries were so delicious and addicting. It came with a wide variety of toppings, not skimping on any of the steak/protein or cheese, with nothing overpowering, but blending well. The cheese steak birria tacos were pretty good, but probably should've stuck to regular birria tacos (personal preference). I got to try some of the tacos that my wife got and all were so delicious. So yeah I was not expecting this massive taco-oriented restaurant on a visit to Cape May a few years ago. We'd already had our share of seafood on this trip, so tacos would be a nice palette cleanser of sorts. Now where I'm from, we have a tequileria on dang near every corner. But they're nothing like this. Ours are the size of shacks in a shanty town, not like this behemoth. No way this was originally a taco place. I don't care who you are, no one is so ambitious that they say, "You know what? I'm gonna convert this old TGI Friday's into a taco stand." You start with a cart and move your way up. Honestly, it looks and feels like a chain. I was surprised it wasn't. It sounds like your standard ho-hum tex-mex chain that worked its way up from the bowels of Florida. But no, it's totally unique to here and owned/operated by a local couple who also oversee two additional restaurants, Port Cocktails & Cuisine, and Fish House, Of the three, Taco Caballito Tequileria is the more family-oriented casual "fun" spot, which I think ties more into the owners' entrepreneurial roots when they bought their first food truck and grinded it out, learning the ropes through trial and error. Luckily that's all in the past, and now it's all about creating a feel-good atmosphere. This includes TVs, shot girls, and live music. Was not expecting two out of those three things. The live music was, uh, some guy. Weekday lunch crowd, pretty brutal slot. He had gumption I'll give him that. When it came to tacos, the menu followed all the standard taco variety guidelines. You need an Asian inspired one (taco on a bao bun, maybe put some kimchi on it), you got the shrimp taco, brisket, al pastor whatever that is, and yes, to capitalize on the birria craze of '23, tacos served with a side of consommé. Man, I remember everyone was getting in on that. It got to the point where Applebee's was serving birria something or other, and I was like this has gone too far. Here at least it made sense, and yeah, it was pretty spot on. Maybe not the gold standard, but it felt as authentic as you're gonna get in a northeastern beach town. As a whole, Taco Caballito Tequileria is itself like a taco. Bold, zesty, and packed with ingredients that just seem to mesh. Also, music from that one guy. read more

Very disappointing experience. We paid for a reservation in advance, arrived on time, and were then told there was no table available for us. To make matters worse, the staff claimed they don't take reservations--despite the fact that they had already taken our money for one. There was no apology, no explanation that made sense, and no immediate solution offered. Taking payment for a reservation and then denying that reservations exist is unacceptable and extremely frustrating. Until this is handled more professionally and transparently, I wouldn't recommend relying on this restaurant for any planned dining. read more

This spot is awesome! We visited while on vacation in Cape May. We were able to get a table without a reservation after waiting about 10 minutes, despite it being a busy Saturday night. We ordered the queso as an appetizer and it was delicious! I had the sea bass tacos for my entree & they were incredible. The sea bass was very fresh & the tacos were packed! Came here for a very quick late lunch when getting into Cape May and it was perfect. Because it's off season the restaurant was empty but the Xmas vibes were high and there were regulars at the bar. Service was quick and super accommodating. My husband got the brisket tacos and said they were fantastic. I got the crispy fish tacos and asked for a sub of the corn tortilla and I am glad I did because their homemade corn tortillas are AWESOME! The fish in the taco was incredibly fresh and piping hot from just being made. The flavors of the taco overall were great and if we had more time on Cape May I would 100% be making multiple stops here for lunch. I consider tacos a street food/quick bite/cheap eat type of cuisine. We were visiting Cape May in the offseason and a lot of eateries were closed. Taco Caballito was very inviting, so we walked in hoping to find a quick, cheap bite. The menu has a lot to offer and there is a nice little kid's menu, but cheap it is not. Two tacos will run you $13-15 and three ranges from $18-21. My tacos were tasty (Al Pastor & Quesabirria) and I would have liked to have tried more, but I wrestled with my desire to find a cheap eat deal. If you're going here, go all in a be prepared to pay over $20 per person. Server was a little inattentive and it took a while to get water refilled and our bill. read more

Love this place! Best Mexican food since leaving Texas (which isn't nearly as good as the Mexican food in Mexico). The food is ok but way overpriced. Most entrees are $25-$28 for three tacos which is crazy for what was essentially born to be affordable street food. All sides are al a carte. I get it, we're paying for real estate and ambiance which, unfortunately, is severely lacking, techno music so loud you can't converse at your table. Lastly, I ordered a burrito bowl which was good, nothing special, I asked the waiter if I could have both types of beans in the dish. He flat out told me no. I've been a chef for 30 years and had to look shocked when he told me I had to choose. Maybe he was new, I don't know, but even if he charged me for an extra side I would've been happy to pay for it. Our bill for five adults and two children was $300+ for chips & queso, corn ribs, two margaritas, a burrito bowl, two kids meals, and four orders of tacos. There are many other top notch restaurants in Cape May you can spend $300+ for seven people and get great food, service, and atmosphere. This place definitely has the IG aesthetic from the neon signs at the entrance all the way to the bathroom in the back. So I wasn't expecting much. To my surprise, everything was good. We started with the Tijuana Street fries - we expected them to be soggy but maintained their structure. This was a big app, and could easily be an entree. For drinks, I tried the apple cider marg which again, surprised me - it was light and refreshing. And for the entree I got carne asada tacos - stuffed and served with a side of the consumé which is the main reason I chose the dish. Ambiance is good - spacious and plenty of TVs for anyone looking to catch the games. Overall, I'd recommend this place but fair warning - parking here is a struggle! read more
