We stopped by for lunch here after doing some shopping. We were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our time there. The restaurant was small with indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside thinking that it would be cooler than outside, but there wasn't any air conditioning. We started with the chips and salsa. The chips were very stale and I was surprised that they served them to us. I ordered the chicken taquitos for my entree. They were delicious. My husband and I had lunch at La Dona. He had veggie tacos and I had fish (mahi mahi) tacos. The food was excellent!! The tacos were some of the best we ever had. The fish was light and flaky. There was a good variety in the veggie tacos. There was even some cactus. The service was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We have been here several times. The food I have to say is very good. The portions are just right and we really enjoyed the BYOB experience. The reason I'm giving it 2 stars is the service! We sat down at our table and right away, ordered the guacamole to get us started as we had a drink. The waitress then told us that we had to order our full dinner selection and could not order an appetizer first. we asked why and she did not have an answer. Just told us that she was instructed that everyone had to order everything immediately. We really wanted to start with an appetizer we weren't sure what our main course was going to be however we could not order the appetizer until we all decided on the main course. And never got a good explanation as to why. It's a shame they're not more flexible and allow you to order an appetizer before you get your main order. read more

When we arrived, we put our name in for a table and were told 20 minutes however ended up waiting a full hour to finally be seated. We had the table side guac which was good but small and expensive. Absolute garbage. Have to pay extra for chips and salsa. Can't order them as appetizers; you have to order them with the main course. Wow. Why? First Mexican restaurant in my life that required this. I wanted to like this place so bad but unfortunately my overall experience was just BAD! The food was bland cold and the portions were extremely small. I Brought my own tequila to add in with their pre made Marita mix which was decent. They also added a hefty gratuity on the bill for two adults and one child. read more

We had a great time at La Dona. We arrived for dinner at the same time as rain. Since we had a little one in a stroller, the owner made sure she arranged a table for us indoors. Staff are lovely and attentive and the food arrived fairly quickly. We started with house made guacamole made right at our table. Excellent! Appetizers included mussels fra diavlo, also excellent and a Caesar salad, just okay. Mains were great and tasty, but the rice portions could have been more generous. The salmon was flavorful and cooked just right and you can't go wrong with fresh spinach. This is a place we enjoy dining at any time we are in Cape May. read more

In Cape May for a family reunion and my 4 siblings and I went to La Doña for appetizers and drinks. We learned the margaritas were BYOB so chose not to get them and just had appetizers instead. The owner was openly irritated we weren't getting margaritas, and continued to be rude throughout the short time we were there. read more

If you have children, are vegetarian, and are an immigrant, do not go to this restaurant. We were a group of eight people and one infant. They have a sign that says strollers are not allowed. When one of the people, who has been in this country for over 35 years, in our group asked for something the owner (?) said she does not understand him. We asked for some vegetarian choices and she said she could not accommodate us. We found some items that were vegetarian and ordered those items. Solid three stars. La Dona is tucked away in the Cape May mall. You could easily walk right past it. We came on a Sunday and their was only one other couple there. Oddly, they sat us directly next to them even with a bout 25 other tables being open. La Dona is BYO much like a lot of the resteraunts here. We didn't come prepared so we ordered colas right out of the bottle. Our waitress was SO sweet. Asked us a lot of questions and told us what she liked on the menu. She strongly recommended the guacamole and she came over and made it for us a few minutes later. She made sure she wasn't putting in too much spice or too much salt and had us try it after she was done to make sure it was good. And it certainly was. For entrees my husband ordered carnitas tacos and I ordered chicken quesadillas. I was pretty full from the guac so I only had two quesadillas, but they were good and we're oozing with cheese! The carnitas were just okay. Very try and lacked on flavor. I would definitely go with something else if you're dining here! read more
