Lobster Cobb Salad
Christina S.

We have visited Fins three times in the last four years when we visit Cape May. My husband loves their Lobster Cobb Salad! The first time we went in 2023 he said it was incredible, and literally talked about the salad for the whole year. So when we visited in 2024, he was super let down when the quality and flavor did not live up to the hype of our first visit. We almost didn't go back this year, but decided to try one last time. And boy are we happy we did! I'm happy to report the salad, service and food is back on track! I'm allergic to fish, so I had a fried chicken tender buffalo wrap made to order - not on the menu - and it was awesome! Definitely recommend for a great lunch or dinner spot. Remember, this is good vibes, chill restaurant with solid food - not a fine dining establishment!

Great service, prime location, beautiful interior. Would love to return another time when I'm in Cape May!

We only had 1 cocktail so it's based on that... Our friends were eating dinner here so we came over to hang and talk with them. Me and my husband ordered our drinks at the bar. He just got a basic Jack and Coke and I got an Orange Crush (crushes are a "thing" around here I learned). It was ok but not near as delicious as the one I had at MudHen (you can see my review a few back). The Happy Hour menu looked decent but of course we just missed it....

Fins Bar & Grille is my favorite restaurant in Cape May. From the moment you enter, you're mesmerized by their huge aquarium, glowing counters, and nautical decor. Our Server, Katarina, did an exceptional job with her expert recommendations and good cadence serving. I ordered the Scallop Dinner (white wine and lemon, seasonal vegetables, and stewed tomatoes). This dish was beyond amazing. Each scallop was enveloped by the succulent sauce, perfect firmness, and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The other selection was the Angus Burger, with Sweet Potato Fries. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and filling. I hope that everyone will get to experience Fins Bar & Grille and enjoy the entire experience.

Good food. My sister and cousin shared the broiled combination plate. It was delicious. I tasted their crab cake because I love to see in my travels who makes the best crab cake. This was one of my top picks. I got the lobster roll. I liked it but it was too salty for me. But I did eat it , can't let lobster go to waste. If I ever go back I would get the crab cakes. The service was good although we had to stop someone to ask for more water. The place had an aquarium that was fun to look at and the lights were very cool. Retro ambiance.

Great place for delicious, high quality seafood in Cape May! Perfect for a date night or fun night out at the beach. Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail and blackened scallops.

I've walked by Fins so many times and just never thought to try it out. Glad I did this time! The place js decorated nicely with a a very nice bar area, comfortable seating with plenty of booths, friendly servers and fresh food. There was live music and a totally chill vibe. Really enjoyed the time here. We had the oysters- very fresh. Kinda surprised there was no horseradish or vinegar served with it. The broiled scallops were very good- cooked to the perfect texture and flavor. Steamed lobster was great- I don't know if they don't give the little forks to get the lobster meat out or if they forgot? Not sure. The waitress disappeared for a while and by the time she came back we were pretty much done. I'm sure this was probably an oversight. Overall the experience was great.

We had a great meal here! We were looking for somewhere at Washington street mall to eat and someone suggested this so we figured we'd try it. We both got salads and a glass of wine. Everything was delicious. The salads were used with a lot of "stuff" in them. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was a little lackluster but overall fine. We liked the Halloween decor as well. Would def return when in the area.

This is the bowl of chowder. It's amazing. Though a little small.

I was somewhat concerned by the review level and our off-season visit to Fins. But, I didn't need to be. We were seated quickly and the hostess was friendly, as was our waitress. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, and I love the multitude of aquariums (which seem very well kept, too, though one yellow tang made me sad). If anything negative about the ambiance, the music is kinda loud. I ordered a dozen oysters and a bowl of the seafood chowder. The oysters were among the best I've had out, and very fairly priced. The chowder was amazing -- I'm a little confused as to how big the smaller cup must be, as the bowl was small, but it's also very filling. My martini was slightly insane -- I don't think it would hold another drop. One small surprise -- 2.5% was added for using a card.

Lots of choices, big servings and tastes good. Service is fast , friendly, polite and pleasant. First timer and definitely will be back. Ambiance is great and wonderful.. Place is clean and tidy. Great place dining inside and outside.

It was quite chilly while we visited Cape May so we really wanted to sit inside. First, the positive: The place is clean and the staff is nice. The Lobster Roll is delicious and the Shrimp Cesar Salad tasted good, but this is also where it goes bad. It is a huge salad and only had 3 shrimp. The cost of the salad is the same as the Lobster Roll. There is no way a salad should cost 26.99 and only have 3 shrimp. A pound of shrimp market value is approximately $25.99 depending on size & location. When it was expressed to our server, she quoted market price increases and that we could order more shrimp at an upcharge. If market price for shrimp is that bad, take it off the menu or offer alternatives like adding chicken that won't result in an upcharge or advise your customers upon ordering that they'd only get 3 shrimp. Hubs probably would have ordered something else. It's Cape May Fish Market so they should be upfront about their seafood. I didn't really care for the fact that we asked about it and were brushed off. While we'll definitely return to Cape May, we may not return here. .

I also ordered a bottle of their house wine, and it was excellent. It was served nicely chilled with just the right amount of sweetness, making it the perfect pairing for my meal. The flavors complemented the gnocchi beautifully and made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. The sauce was fresh, light, and earthy, and I loved the addition of the pine nuts, which added a subtle crunch. I'm usually not a fan of mixing different textures in a dish, but everything came together so well that it completely changed my mind. The shrimp were cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. My daughter ordered the seafood pasta, and she loved it as well. The seafood was fresh, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the flavors blended together wonderfully. We both left our plates nearly empty because everything was just that good. We were seated outside, and the atmosphere couldn't have been better. The weather was beautiful, there was a nice breeze, and it made for such a relaxing dining experience. To top it all off, the woman who took our order was absolutely wonderful. She was funny, energetic, and incredibly kind, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Between the amazing food, delicious wine, beautiful outdoor seating, and exceptional service, this was easily one of my favorite dining experiences. I would happily return again and again.

It was OK but we were right by the door to the patio, which was frequently opened and closed. Our server, Laura was fantastic. She did a great job all night for us. The seafood risotto was great as usual, as was the pescatore special and the scallop risotto appetizer (had for an entrée). The scallops Sambuca special was OK but the sauce was too sweet for me. No dessert tonight.

Cooked perfectly with a nice crunch to the shell. I will not eat if battered and fried. Scallops for my friend. We shared the dark chocolate salted Carmel bread pudding. My fellow reviewers mentioning the tasteless cabbage and brown rice sides are depressingly accurate. Even the scallops didn't taste like much. I was truly shocked they had the audacity to charge $36 for their plates. Additionally, we were packed in there like sardines, basically touching elbows with the customers next to us. Not sure why anyone would enjoy this sort of cramped and loud atmosphere. I have nothing bad to say about the service, but if I'm paying such a premium for a meal that I could've prepared much better (even as a complete amateur), that's not going to move the needle into "could've been better" territory. It was just insultingly bad for the price. They are clearly just coasting off of their reputation as a local staple. We had a drink at the corner bar nearby beforehand and I caught a glimpse at some of their food. Wish we had just stayed and had our meal there. Just because you label yourself "farm to table" doesn't mean you can get away with your food tasting like fodder.

The beer selection is always impressive, with plenty of options to satisfy just about every taste. Service can be hit or miss depending on when you visit and who's working, but that's often the case at busy shore destinations. My family stops here on almost every trip to our home on the Cape May Bay, so we've experienced it at its best and busiest. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a popular shore restaurant. And yes, if you know about the bathroom situation, you know--it really deserves a permanent fix rather than another temporary patch. The menu offers something for everyone. The pizzas are consistently good, the bar food delivers exactly what you'd expect, and there are several signature dishes that are always reliable and full of flavor. When the restaurant gets crowded, you'll definitely notice it in both the service and the overall vibe, but that's just part of the shore experience. Overall, I'd recommend giving it a try. We were seated immediately by our server Flossy who also had very good recommendations on what to order. I followed those recommendations and got the Crab Cakes and the Key Lime Pie Cheesecake. My friend ordered the Seafood Pesto. I loved the Crab Cakes, it went well with the mango sauce and it was a very lump meat crab cake. Might be one of the best crab cakes I've ever had. The key lime cheesecake was very fluffy, airy, with the perfect balance of sweet and citrus. The seafood pesto was just OK in my opinion. I did like the food for the most part. However, the portions are a little on the small side. If it weren't for dessert and Flossy giving me a second dinner roll (another point for service!) I think I would've left still hungry. To be fair, I am considered a big eater and I came in starving. There were a few other questionable choices that prevent me from fully recommending this place. Some may consider the dining room cozy, I found it cramped, especially as it started to fill up with other customers. So this place is likely not going to work with a big party even if it's half full. We were a little surprised when trying to find the restroom too. We were handed a key, and had to go outside and in their back alley on a little treasure hunt to find a door labeled "Locked door". When ordering dessert, I was surprised the dessert menu did not list any prices even though their main menu did. Kind of obnoxious and pretentious if you ask me, but Flossy mentioned they were all $18 and big enough to share. That brings me one other point: pricing. I loved the food, but felt each menu item was twice the price that was appropriate for the portion. All in all, Freda's cafe has good food and great service. But it's held back by portion sizes, pricing, and a few other weird issues.
