I was profoundly unsettled by my visit on 6.19.25 regarding order 322228 at 5:13 PM. The cashier, who was quite unfriendly and went by the name of Maria (I can provide ID if necessary), approached me and simply said, "What?" I requested, "Could I have 3 Mango Margaritas with extra Chamoy?" Her reply was an equally unfriendly, "What?!" To ensure she could hear me, I repeated my order a bit louder and added that I would like a steak fajita burrito with extra sour cream. I mentioned this twice because I wanted to make sure she heard me and that she actually included it, as I really enjoy it with that dish. She requested my I.D. I submitted the order (from which I unfortunately did not receive a receipt because she walked away and provided a young lady with the instructions for my order, then went to the back). I sensed some tension during my interaction with her, but I brushed it off since I frequent this location often and rarely experience such interactions. I also consider that sometimes we are unaware of what others might be dealing with. The same young lady who, ironically, prepared the drinks the previous day with added chamoy, did not do so today. Instead, she added mango syrup to the cup, prepared the ice for the drink, and drizzled a thin line of chamoy before looking at manager Rachel for her approval. Given the tension I felt with the cashier, the unsuccessful addition of the extra sour cream I had requested for my dish, which was not included, and my not receiving a copy of the receipt, the situation began to feel increasingly intentional. With the thin line of chamoy, I decided to request a refund for the drinks since the burrito was already made incorrectly and in my possession, and I simply wanted to leave due to the atmosphere. All the employees assembled at the front and inquired, "Why?" I replied, "I have made several straightforward requests, and it seems you are deliberately ignoring them. I am no longer interested in the items." Racheal answered, "Well, we don't issue refunds on Margaritas," and Maria added with a confrontational tone, prompting Rachel to say, "Don't argue with me." This was perplexing because I had intentionally kept my tone calm, given the clear treatment I was receiving. When I asked, "Is this in policy or documented in some way?" I intended to simply take the drinks and follow through with my decision from yesterday to stop patronizing this establishment altogether. She replied, "Well, we are not supposed to do that, and they are not required by policy to add extra chamoy." She mentioned that during previous occasions when I received this item with added chamoy, the employees were doing it incorrectly, and as of today, they can't add extra chamoy. I understood her explanation and requested the refund again. Now, regarding what I mentioned earlier about not receiving my receipt, I actually needed it to process the refund. I pointed out that Maria did not give me my receipt, and she argued with me about confirming that she had it in a very aggressive manner. A nice gentleman, whom I believe was named Jonathan, simply went to the kiosk, accessed the history, and printed my receipt, which I do have in case there is a need to review it. I received the refund and left the restaurantMy family observed my disappointment when I returned to the car, and I simply told them, "It's okay, that's one of my favorite drinks to order, but I will learn how to make it using our Ninja machine and Googling the recipe, because I vowed and still do to never support or purchase anything else from Taco Cabana again." The only thing I wish for from this unfortunate experience is for you to properly train your employees to be consistent, honest (because when my mother called back, Rachael claimed she had no issue adding it, which was false; if that were true, I would have bought the drinks), and fair. fast, delicious and affordable. Who would overpay for a taco in Texas? TC keeps it real on their Tex-Mex flavors and affordable dishes, you get the taste of a sit down restaurant but in fast food. My personal favorites is the 2 fajita taco combo with queso and a Strawberry Fanta. For my small family, the 1 pound of beef fajita with the rice, beans and condiments is perfect for a no cooking night and still manage to have left overs. On my "on-the-go" days the flautas are a great option to grub on your way to a place with sour cream or guac. And for dessert, the ever loving sopapillas! They are delicious with or without the honey or dulce de leche. Service is ok, nothing special but at least you can save your tip for another taco. read more

Update 8-20-22: Unfortunately the last two experiences I've had trying to get food at Taco Cabana were not good either. It had been awhile since I tried to go here, but gave it another chance, and both times were not good. When we got food tonight, beef fajita tacos were ordered for me, but when we got the food home, realized I received what seems to be pork tacos instead, with a fragrant smelling seasoning. We didn't check the food in the car, so didn't see the issue until we got home. I even tried to check the ingredients list on the website first to see what the seasonings could be, but there are no detailed ingredients lists listed under the tacos (or other food items either) provided online. I also tried to call the store, but no one picked up. At first I thought it was chicken because the meat was lighter than beef, but due to having severe allergies to some foods including certain seasonings like lime (which I thought I might have smelled), someone tried a taco for me to see what the seasonings were for safety first. We came to the realization I was given pork, which I am very allergic to, instead of the beef we asked for. Once again, this restaurant location made a serious error for me in my order by giving the wrong type of tacos, and had someone not tried a taco for me first, I might have taken a bite thinking it was chicken, and had my throat swell up. Very thankful I did not eat it. The other most recent visit I had here was at the very start of the pandemic, when we went inside to order, and saw a teenage employee wipe his nose on his glove while preparing orders on the line! Horrified from seeing that and that he was handling food after we placed our order, we notified the manager at the time of what happened, and the manager did address it immediately with the employee. The food he handled was thrown away and he got fresh gloves and remade the food. He was a young kid and clearly did it absentmindedly and didn't mean anything by it, but it was unnerving to see, especially when the pandemic was first announced. Needless to say, after too many instances of errors with involving not getting my order right, which is a risk for my food allergies, this will be my last time personally trying to eat here. If I wasn't allergic to anything it would be a big annoyance on it's own, but it's actually dangerous to make errors like these on on some people's orders. You guys need to do better on food allergies and orders being prepared correctly. read more

Don't come here if you plan on ordering taco boxes for your work place. If you do, plan on waiting over an hour for your order. Most likely there are several others just like you who want to buy their coworkers breakfast on a Friday morning. I called 30 minutes prior to arriving to make an order for 3 dozen tacos, however no one picked up the phone. I then decided to just order at the counter once I arrive. When I got there I noticed several other people waiting on their order with angry faces and wondered why. I later saw a lady cancelling her order after her patients ran out. This Northside Taco Cabana has come to my aid during many a food pinch while I was stuck at work and starving. I prefer it over Taco Bell, as it offers breakfast till 11am and up to noontime on the weekends, the ingredients seem fresher, they have a black bean option over refried beans, good flour tortillas, and they have a salsa bar--once again, freshness wins. Their combo meals are a pretty good deal. I ordered a combo meal with a cheese enchilada, black beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream AND it also came with chips and queso and a drink--all of this for about $5! Lately, their breakfast tacos have been under a promo for 99cents--win! The margaritas are cheap, cheap, cheap...and decent, for what they are. So I feel I can stuff my face with less fear and guilt about what I was consuming than I would at most of the other fast food places that abound out here. They also maintain this Taco Cabana pretty well, the tables and salsa bar are always clean. Now the drawbacks. This Taco Cabana is located within proximity to what must be one of the most dangerous and crazy intersections in Houston. Since it is also next to a Wal-Mart, with a Sam's Club conveniently across the street (?!) and it's all by I-45, traffic is prolific and hellacious. I have to prepare my mind to drive out here, so I pretend I am heading into a Mad Max-like vehicular apocalypse, because that's how everyone seems to drive. This little section of town may definitely be one of the beacons that inspire peopleofwalmart.com. Using peopleofwalmart as my segue, I must also comment on the service I've received at TC. While most of the employees I've encountered appear to possess a level of alertness and response that allowed them said employment, some escape me, and apparently the hiring hands of TC since they barely comprehend above a troglodyte level. One charming encounter was with, literally, a mouth breathing, half-lidded young lass who could not seem to understand my request for black beans, then could not figure how to submit my order on her register. As a result, guess who did not have her order right, but was unrighteously charged for it? Its guts of meat, beans, and sour cream were oozing out into the aluminum shell before I even had it half unwrapped. Looked like a bad modern art painting. There was a huge ass line of cars for Christmas not gonna lie, we ordered our food(which was a pretty decent list of food. Oh my god your service is so bad. I made a group order and drove to the location to pick it up. The lady at the cash register looked half dead. She really didn't have any energy to even look at me. She couldn't find my online order because she had 20 different receipts scattet in front of her below the cash register. I had to drive back and have the lady tell me she didn't see that order when it came through... how does the middle of the order just fall off when it gets transfered?? Although the food is typical Taco Cabana fare, the dining room is atrocious. All tables dirty, soft drink lids empty, most of the salsa bar is empty, both trash cans overflowing, no tea in the container. These people obviously don't care. And to top it off it took about 20 minutes to get my food. I've been served faster at a number of full service Mexican restaurants. And no, it wasn't too busy, maybe about half full.
