When we came back from bars in the gaslamp, we had to stop by before we called it a night. What I ordered: - Queso Birria Taco w/ consumé - Al Pastor Taco - Carne Asada Taco Late night restaurant with bright lights and beautiful decor wouldn't be a spot that I thought had great tacos, but boy did this spot blow my mind! They also have a salsa bar that includes unlimited grilled onions!!! This changed everything about my experience here. The queso birria was so cheesy, meaty and made the perfect combo! The consumé was full of flavor, not extremely oily, and pairing it with the birria was life changing! The Al pastor was juicy and it had you salivating with the avocado cilantro crema and pineapple on top. Last but not least, the carne asada was incredible! Carne asada is usually always hit or miss at many places so I didn't know what to expect here, but Taco Centro did not disappoint and it exceeded expectations. Overall, I am excited that we found this spot in SD, because this rivals the tacos that I've had in Mexico. I'm thinking that this might be a top 10 taco spot that I've had so far. Great outdoor seating in the heart of Gaslamp with delicious fresh tacos, burritos, and salsa bar! A not-so-hidden gem in downtown San Diego. From the outside, Taco Centro looks like a generic corporate spot, like almost everything else in this area. But, if you like authentic Mexican street tacos, these are some of the best in town. Prices are low, portions are generous, and the service is fast and friendly. They are open until midnight. I was pleased to find several vegetarian options on the menu. In addition to tacos, they do burritos, quesadillas, nachos, fries, etc; they even make a Birria Ramen. We ordered takeout, and everything was packed with care. I loved my Nopal and Mushroom tacos, which were juicy and full of flavor, without being overly oily.
