There is nothing better when it comes to food on a Tuesday like tacos and on this particular Tuesday I decided to take a trip to Downtown Jeffersonville, Indiana and check out the brand new Ramiro's Cantina Express, a brand New Mexican establishment in the heart of one of Indiana's historic stops along the Ohio River. While Ramiro's may be new to Indiana, they have been around in Louisville for quite some time and decided to make the move here to Indiana in hopes of providing some Mexican food to the Downtown Jeffersonville area. The decor in Ramiro's provides a very relaxing vibe from traditional tables and chair to some very chic couches and chairs that allow you to come, grab some food and read a book or finish up whatever project you may be working on via your laptop. The food here is the real star of the show because every day is a special such as Tuesday's being $3 non-premium tacos such as chicken, steak or ground beef but for $2 more you can get a premium taco such as brisket and more. The tacos are all on a flour tortilla and I'm not sure if corn tortillas are an option (I didn't ask) but they have a lot to offer when it comes to the various toppings you can choose from. Ramiro's also offers quest and chips, elotes and also various alcoholic beverages from margaritas and more. I absolutely recommend stopping by here as they are spot on when it comes to the food and the service is very quick and easy. The owner is super friendly and has plans for a patio so that guests can enjoy their meal on a beautiful day. We just love this place. Think of Chipotle, but authentic. Ramiros still serves the best brisket taco I've ever had. Down the assembly line they pack your taco with all the fixins you request. You'll need a fork to get started on these monsters to whittle it down before you can pick them up. I don't want to neglect the chicken taco also packed with large cubes of chicken. My wife couldn't finish her burrito bowl and if they packed it in a tortilla she'd need help picking it up. Word of caution ~ they offer a mild and spicy salsa. The spicy is brutal. Made with habañero peppers. It brought this Texas boy to tears. Thankfully, a cold beer helps quench the flames. We like this Cantina so much, we're planning to visit the main restaurant on Franklin. A cute place and the food is way better than when they were located across the river. I chose the burrito with rice, bean, brisket, jalapenos, onion, cilantro and very spicy salsa. The meat was excellent, the salsa was indeed spicy which was appreciated but surprising considering i was in Indiana. I also shared a tamale with a friend of mine and lets just say I would make the trip here for those they were that good. It's Cinco De Mayo and where else would we be but somewhere with delicious tacos and alcohol?! We did a walk over to Ramiros and got all kinds of food and drinks and drinks and oh yeah drinks. We were a party of 12 and we found seating by the outdoor window, a small table and a tall table for 6. We were spread out a bit but managed to all find seating so that was great. There was a nice crowd with some folks dining outside. We ordered at the register, grabbed our food and everything was so good. This was definitely a great time and great spot for our large group. I ordered the chicken nachos. I wish the chicken was a sliced thinner for the nachos but that didn't take away from the taste. The margaritas were sooooooo good. My wife and I hadn't been to Ramiro's in while; not because we had a bad experience, but we have so many restaurants around to try. On this occasion I saw a sign, "Tacos for $2.50." I felt I wasn't too hungry so I ordered 2 tacos and chips with salsa. My wife ordered what I originally planned to get for myself, Smoked Brisket Bowl. The great thing about tacos and bowls at Ramiro's is they allow you to choose what you want on your taco or in your bowl and they have MANY choices. My tacos were the BEST I had anywhere. My wife said her bowl was very good. I trust we will visit more often now. It is our new FAV for Hispanic food. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of our food on this visit. My tacos were YUGE. I was at Twilight Thursday at Churchill Downs and wanted some Mexican food so I went to their food truck. When I asked if they had spicy salsa, I was told, "we make white people tacos." I found this rather insulting. But when I read the "white" people comments on the five star reviews it totally makes sense. If this is your business model, then don't have "Mexican" in your business name. Call it, Trailer Park Tacos or as you said White People Tacos. The to-go person wanted to know about my online experience and how they could improve. The elote was a unique appetizer. The corn on the cob tasted a bit over cooked though. The guacamole/ salsa popped into my mouth with such a pleasant after taste A+. We ordered four different entrées Shrimp Taco Salad succulent, Carnitas Burritos a bit dry, Carne Asada Quesadilla perfect, and Birria Tacos missed the mark. I want to say it did not look like birria because they used flour not corn for the tortilla. The taste of the meat was perfect. To say the least it was close but no Birria Taco. We came here on a Monday and that is margarita day and you can buy margaritas there for $.99 per 8 ounce they give you options you know they were from 8 ounces up to 32. For three dollars she had a good size tasty drink. First we shared the mini chicken chimichangas. We got five of them for nine dollars and I love the crust. It was almost like a chimichanga made with crescent rolls. It was very rich dough and it was fried nicely and the chicken was high-quality, and the cheese had a good flavor, so then we decided because that was so good that we would get a little bit more. She got a taco ground beef it was five bucks they have all kinds of great veggie and topping items you can add. She got like mushrooms and onions on it different types of onions and lettuce guacamole. I also ordered the four apple caramel chimichangas. The apples were nice and soft and well done and they were nice big slices they were not food service yeah premade goo. The restaurant is very comfortable and open and the decor is nice and homey. The woman cooking it was very friendly and skilled I almost feel like I have a Hispanic grandma now I highly recommend this place lots of options and ways to order à la cart with a pretty good selection. We had a chicken Quesadilla and a chicken burrito bowl. My quesadilla was fresh but difficult to eat. The chicken was soaked in juices and the cheese cooked open face. After adding jalapeños and cilantro they folded it over and served it. All the juices made for sloppy finger food. It was fresh and tasty. read more

Ramiro's is one of the best Mexican eateries Southern Indiana has to offer- the seating is beautiful, the food is amazing, and the service is quick and friendly. I've eaten here only twice but am impressed with it every time. The restaurant is very clean! I imagine this is very hard to maintain considering how busy they can get (especially around the beginning of summer). The outdoor seating is the best- the front of the building has a cut out so that you can sit inside and enjoy nice weather/people watch all at the same time- and if you're here during the Abbey Road On The River music festival- you can hear the music from here! Their food is delicious and cheap- I got three chicken tacos (I was only able to finish two) for just $8 with a drink, and they don't make you pay extra for guacamole on your food like other Mexican restaurants do! This has been on my bookmarks for a while! I happened to be near this as I left southern Indiana. I walked in and to my surprise it was a smaller restaurant. You order at counter and take to your table. I ordered the carne asade naked burrito bowl. It didn't look like anything fancy or even appetizing but just wait!!! This little bowl was so yummy! The meat tasted so tender and juicy I have never had meat that tasted so good in a burrito or nachos or bowl. I was blown away, so much I nearly licked the bowl. Those fresh chopped jalapeños is what kept me from licking the bowl clean. This is a small place but the flavor packed into that bowl was amazing! I will be back to try something else. I love any mexican food, I truly believe I have mexican in my blood! After we indulged I candy, we decided to grab a quick lunch. Since this was Express, we figured it would be a nice quick bite to eat. It is not too big inside, but ample seating, and there is seating outside when the weather is nice. You order first at the counter, then seat yourself. I ordered nachos, and it was nice because you can pretty much tell them what you would like in it. Making it much better, because it only had what I liked. My husband and I both enjoyed them, and was more than enough to satisfy our little hunger. I had a pop, and my husband had a beer. Staff very friendly, and came around to check on us. I love heat, so I tried their house made hot sauce for my nachos. Perfection! Great heat, cleared the sinuses. We been slowly watching this restaurant being put in as we play pokemon go every week in Jeffersonville. At 1st my husband and I were taking bets between us for what type it will become, I was very happy it was Mexican, and husband thrilled not another coffee shop lol. We came in last week with our friend after a long afternoon playing ya guessed it Pokemon Go. 1st off I loved the menu, so many choices to choose from, and once you pick what you want it is made in front of you like subway. I had the Taco Salad with Fresh bowl shell pork, lettuce, black beans, rice, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole. My husband had the burrito with chorizo, not sure what else he added because I was still trying to make up my mind what to order when his was being built. They offer fountain soda (Coke), several other types of drinks in can or bottle. Plus they have Margaritas, of course I had to have one of those, I decide on Mango on the rocks. The Tequila they use is Number One, I had never tried that kind before and it was really good and tasty. As we were enjoying our meal the owner came out to greet us and asked us how we liked everything, He was very friendly and thankful we came in. With conversation going on he let us know he plans to set up sell tacos boxes on Thunder for quick meals thru the open window, but if wanting the margaritas or other items would have to come in wait in line. As right now they don't have outdoor seating, but they are working on it, with the tables and chairs slowly starting to be added we noticed the other night. I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of this new addition to Jeff's downtown, and looking forward to his future plans of late night chips & salsa with margaritas. Being an express location, a limited menu is to be expected! That being said, ordering at the counter was fast and easy. The portions were crazy large and pricing very reasonable. Fast, friendly, and efficient! I ordered chicken nachos with queso, lots of fresh tomatoes, & black beans. Delish! My husband ordered a burrito bowl minus burrito... steak, rice, queso, corn, and a side of salsa & chips. The salsa was spicier and darker in color than the salsa selections at the full Ramiro's on Frankfort Ave. we weren't fans of the salsa here but everything else was flavorful enough and at a fair price. The weather was perfect so many patrons were eating at the outdoor tables as well as at the long table with long open window facing the sidewalk. Today was opening day and they knocked it out of the park! We have been to Ramiro's Bardstown Rd. location and love it and were super excited to see a Jeffersonville Express location! This location is great. Close to the river and walking bridge. Lots of parking in the lot next door used for spring st. parking and the walking bridge. Being that it's an express location everything is fast. You order your food and watch them make it. Think Qdoba or Moe's style service. Except they offer beer and margaritas! Prices also mimic qdoba. The service was super friendly and fast. The food was EXCELLENT. They have tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, and naked burrito bowls. We had a chicken and a smoked brisket burrito bowl and were in love. The brisket was super tender and smoked to perfection with the best flavor. The chicken was also amazing. We loved the queso they use on top, the perfectly seasoned rice, and the delicious salsa. It's safe to say we will be back again and again! Another dining treasure in Jeffersonville, Indiana. We ate here Friday evening before the rush. We were able to eat outside. The restaurant is set up like subway or Qdoba where you choose what you want and you watch as it's being fixed. Mike had the brisket taco salad, and I had the naked burrito. Mike was pleased with his salad. The naked burrito is a burrito without the tortilla in a bowl. I had chicken on it, but after tasting Mike's brisket, I wish I had the brisket naked burrito. Also, i had a little of the mango salsa on the side and that was very good. Everything we ate was delicious, and we will definitely return. I went back to refill my water and noticed they had some kind of cantaloupe juice, so I added just a touch of it my water. It was delicious. They offer flavored margaritas & some beers. Stopped in to Ramiro's for a quick lunch before heading back home to Indy. This little place features fast, freshly prepared Mexican food made right in front of you. It's set up sort of like a Qdoba or Subway where you can choose what toppings you'd like. I ordered a burrito bowl without meat. The base was rice and beans, then I chose various vegetable toppings (including fajita style onions/peppers, fresh cilantro, lettuce, tomato and corn). Topped it off with a nice scoop of hot salsa and guacamole (no extra charge). I was warned, the hot salsa is HOT but I enjoy spice so was happy with my selection. Total charge with water to drink was $8 and some change, but the portion size was well-worth the cost. Ramiro's also offers pre-made margaritas and beer, as well as fountain drink products. I elected to eat outside on their patio and despite the fact is sits directly on the heavily traveled Spring Street, it's still a nice change of scenery. I'm from Southern California, so I know good Mexican food. I'm in Southern Indiana, so I was skeptical about a Mexican food place...but willing to try. So here goes: Food was outstanding. My wife and I both ordered a carne asada taco and a carnitas taco. Both were great. The carnitas has a strong lime overtone, but we liked that aspect. You can choose your toppings and salsa for the items. All tasted fresh and the salsas ranged from mild to hot. All appropriate for their desired hotness. We also ordered a side of beans and chips and salsa. Those too were very good. The portions are ample. Top it off with a soda, around $30. In fact the only downside was the owner. We were served by a woman who told us that her mother and brother own the restaurant. She was from out of town and she was helping them out for the day. She was great. Friendly, engaging and polite. She introduced us to the owner, her brother. He was unfriendly, did not engage us at all except a cursory wave as he walked by. He was kind of rude to be frank. However, to be honest, we will never be in Jeffersonville again in our lives, so if he was rude to us, no big deal as far as business goes...just kinda a buzz kill on an otherwise great dining experience. I absolutely LOVE Ramiro's and have been a repeat customer since they opened this location in downtown Jeff. They have the best nachos that you can customize yourself and I love that. My only complaint is that today is the second time the person making my nachos has grabbed the chips with their bare hands. The first time it happened I didn't speak up because I was unsure how to go about the situation, but I was unable to eat what I got because of how off putting it was. Today it happened again and I asked if they could please use gloves or tongs to grab them instead. He said yes, and then put the SAME chips he just touched with his bare hands, back in to the SAME container. I am pregnant and Covid is running rampant and this is very disturbing to me. I don't want to give a bad rating for Ramiro's over all because I do love this place and those are only 2 bad experiences out of the many times I've been, but I was highly uncomfortable with how that was handled. read more
