I'm glad this place exists. I really like to see business in the walking mall survive. I think the atmosphere and staff are great. I love the cheap beer however the burritos are not great, the tortillas are often a little slimy and the ingredients taste like they come straight out of a Cisco truck without much added seasoning or love. Walked around downtown Helena looking for a place to eat and finally found Taco del Sol, thanks to the recommendation of some girl my friends and I ran into. It's got a cool entrance down a few steps in the Walking Mall, and the food wasn't bad. Large portions and fresh ingredients, but nothing special. I know everyone just loves this place, but I find it to be a bit bland. I went there today, it has a nice atmosphere, and the staff are helpful, and food prep is fast. They also let you try the different types of meat they offer in their dishes. I got a burrito supremo, with pork and black beans, and I have to admit, if I hadn't added the jalapenos and hot sauce, it would have been quite bland. There are other places in town where you can get something with more flavor, but if you are downtown, on foot, and in a hurry, this is a great place to try! read more

This is one of the best spots in Helena; the burritos are HUGE and are really cheap, like $5! They also have tacos which is what I usually get, they're around $3 and are smaller (more average sized!) but are really filling. Everything here is really fresh and you can choose whatever you want them to put on your item. They have different types of hot (or mild) sauces and jalepenos for more extra charge. The place is delightfully decorated and very colorful, a fun atmosphere! I've been going here since they opened (gosh, 5, 10 years ago?!) and have always loved it. They typically hire young workers, in high school or college (many of my friends have worked here throughout the years), and are always competent and friendly, the service here never fails. We came here twice on vacation. It was delicious!! We had the chicken tacos, nachos, burritos... everything was delicious and spicy if you want it to be, which we do. The staff was friendly and as fast as made to order can be. We will miss this place at home in Denver. read more

For about six bucks I can get a great burrito with a drink and be stuffed. I love the place and love that it is a nice local option with great service and great food. Forget the chain stores and come to the walk mall for the real tastes of Helena. Even though the line might look long- give it a chance- they blast through pretty quickly. I got a carnitas and beef taco on soft corn. I believe using queso fresco as opposed to shredded cheese would have made a world of difference. Maybe offering some sort of hot sauce such as Cholula would help make the tacos not so one dimensional. read more

This place is great if you know what you're in for. Suprise suprise there isn't much authentic Mexican food in Helena, Mt. That being said Taco Del Sol is great for what it offers: nice, fresh Americanized mexican served quickly. Its a great colorful atmosphere. read more

I love both the burritos and tacos from Taco del Sol, especially the veggie burrito. One thing, though, is that even though I requested no jalapeños, I received a frankly alarming amount of jalapeño slices. That has been my only negative experience with this restaurant. I have to admit I love their food and have always been treated well by their staff. I'm thrilled they use plastic gloves when handling the food. My favorite menu item is a mission supreme with chicken and pinto beans. Sooo good. And the serving sizes are ample to say the least. I highly recommend this little place! read more

Really like this place when I lived in Missoula, still deliver a decent meal for the price. Fast extremely service. I enjoyed the mango habanero hot sauce on the side with a fish burrito and chips. It is not authentic mexican, but for Montana it is a really decent meal & bargain. read more

If you're from a bigger city you would probably be underwhelmed by taco del sol, but comparatively it's one of the best places to eat in Helena, and by a LONG SHOT the best burrito you will get in Helena. I have eaten at Taco del Sol many times. The food has always been fresh and well prepared. But, it is more "fast food" than authentic mexican food. The menu is varied and there are lots of choices compared to drive through establishments. In Helena it is one the better places to eat a quick meal, but as far as Mexican food goes, it is a long way from authentic of places in other parts of the country. read more

I seldom get the ingredients I've asked for and seem to ALWAYS get the stuff I don't want, i.e., NO SALSA....guess what 95% of the time they add it anyway.....re-fried beans....nope....I get black instead....don't know if the help simply don't care or if they're hard of hearing. Taco del Sol is a nice location for a lunch with friends. If you are in the mood for Mexican food I do not think this is going to do it for you, but everything I have ever had there has been fresh and good. Burritos are huge and filled mostly with rice and beans with some meat (if you ordered meat). A little dry and maybe not enough flavor for my taste. The tacos are very large as well, In the past I have ordered two forgetting how big they are, but now I always remember that one is definitely enough! I really liked the fish taco I had the last time I went and will definitely order that again. There has always been a line every time I have been there, but it always moves quickly. They do have good service (no waiters, you order at the counter and they are really efficient). Good ambiance as well. I recommend it for a pleasant lunch as long as you are not expecting authentic Mexican food. read more
